Design Rational

Ann Arbor Languages Partner (A2LP) is an organization that pro-vides opportunities for UM students to teach children languages.

The logo in some measure is designed for childrens, to attract themand to gain their confidence.

The expressive concept is the main reason why I chose this logo asthe final one. The neonatal sun represents growing children. Thetwo hands below it are protecting and rising the sun up which re-flects the value and misson of A2LP - teach, help and love children.

For the choice of color palette, I mainly refered the organization

brief where it mentioned the color style they like. Meanwhile, I triedto choose straightforward color to present the objects intuitively, like the orange sun. And color value were slightly adjusted to makethem more comfortable and acceptable for children.

Likewise, for choice of typography, I don’t want it look too serious, but it should still be formal. Then I decided to use sans-serif fontsrather than serif fonts because the latter are always sort of serious.Verdana looks formal, reliable while it is also relaxing and comfort-

able. It matches quite well in this context.

The whole design process started from brainstorming the logo con-cepts while doing a lot of sketches. From my perspective, I think theconcepts reflected in the logo is the soul of it. It should express thevalue or misson of the organization and create the organizationimage as well. After I picked three best concepts from sketches, Ithen focused on the shape design. The following step is the colorpalette and typefont selection. Last, I spent some time reviewingand refining the whole design from an overall view of point.
