The College was established in 1988, and became fully
independent in 2004. Like Benilde, the Avenir typeface
was created by Adrian Frutiger in 1988. An improved version
of the typeface, Avenir Next, was released in 2004.
While commercially licensed, the typeface comes pre-installed
with Apple OS X 10.8 or later. Avenir Next may be purchased
at linotype.com or MyFonts.com.
The Open Sans typeface was designed by Steve Matteson
under commission by Google™. This typeface provides
excellent legibility in print, web, and mobile devices.
The typeface is open licensed and can be downloaded for free
at google.com/fonts or fontsquirrel.com.
In the absence of Avenir Next, Open Sans Semibold or Bold
may be used instead as headline text.

NAMING CONVENTION
The full name of the College “De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde” must be spelled out. No part of the full name may be shortened or partially abbreviated (i.e. De La Salle-College of St. Benilde, DLS-College of Saint Benilde). Use proper capitalization and spacing at all times.
De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde is a learning environment that nurtures students to develop their interests and passions, and trains them to become professionally competent in established industries and emerging fields of specialization.
At Benilde, learning in its many forms is encouraged. Spiritual creative pursuits, artistic endeavors, service to the community, awareness of environmental issues, and concern for the common good are all part of the Benildean education. The College’s learner-centered philosophy is founded on the belief that each student is endowed by God with talents and gifts that should be understood, appreciated and nurtured.
Citation HierarchyHighest entity should always be mentioned first, followed by the succeeding units. In a formal copy, the possessive aspect occurs after the second highest entity (see first example below)EXAMPLES De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde School of Design and Arts Foundation Program or Benilde School of Design and Arts’ Design Foundation Programor Benilde SDA’s Design Foundation ProgramNOT Design Foundation’s SDA Benilde Design Foundation Benilde School of Design and Arts
Hierarchy will be reversed in personal signatures.
The official short name for the College is “Benilde.” “DLS-CSB” is acceptable, but only for instances where an acronym is required.
Benilde has been independent from De La Salle University since 2004. “De La Salle University” or “DLSU” should never appear anywhere when referring to the College (i.e. DLSU-CSB, De La Salle University-College of Saint Benilde).
“De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde” or “Benilde” alone should not be used as an adjective. Instead, use the term “Benildean.”(i.e. Benildean student, Benildean employee)
“College” should be properly capitalized when specifically used to refer to Benilde. (i.e. the College values each individual...)

Avoid line-breaking anywhere when using the full name. If unavoidable, consider using “Benilde” instead.

LOGO HIERARCHY
Use versions of the logo which provide maximum contrast with the background. For instances where color contrast is difficult, use solid color (white, black) versions.
LOGO VISIBILITY
Keep clear space around logos. Do not place logos extremely close to each other or close to the corner of the layout.
LOGO SPACINGLogo size referenceLetter: 1.2-inches wideA3: 2-inches wide
Avoid the hassle of design revisions by following these simple logo placement guidelines.
Hierarchy should be observed by presenting brand s with the highest to the lowest as right to left or top to bottom. Brands of external partners should always be at the lower end of the hierarchy.
12DE LA SALLE-COLLEGE OF SAINT BENILDE VISUAL IDENTITY GUIDE
LAYOUT STYLE
Cluttered layouts are intimidating to read and harder to analyze. Layouts free from clutter and excessive visuals are easier to read, and more professional looking. Give ample breathing space in the layout by setting a 0.350-inch margin on all sides. Keep the design simple by using only three to four typefaces at most.
SIMPLE + CLEAN LAYOUT
Visual elements should be laid out in a way that information is presented in order of importance.
CREATE INFORMATION HIERARCHY
To be able to achieve the clean layout aesthetic, layout designs should have an ample amount of white space for readability purposes. It also helps the communication medium to stand out among other material which are visually unappealing.
USE WHITE SPACE
To preserve the integrity of the College branding, the visual identity standards (i.e. logo placement, typography, colors) must be followed at all times. This helps strengthen recall of the Benilde branding as time goes by.
FOLLOW VISUAL STANDARDS
Benilde’s new visual direction is more than just good looks. It emphasizes the need for effective communication.
