Developer of the Incredible
Years®, Carolyn Webster-Stratton,
visits Dundalk and Drogheda
Welcome to the 7th edition of UPDATE. This time we cover the visit of the
developer of the Incredible Years®, Carolyn Webster-Stratton, to Dundalk
and Drogheda in May 2018, when she saw for herself the brilliant work
that is taking place. We also share a link to Carolyn's own blog about her
visit.
As Carolyn packed so much into her three days with us we haven't got
room in this edition to cover everything else that has been going on. We
have had the Parent Forum series, the implementation of the KiVa Anti-
Bullying Programme getting underway, the first Hanen Learning
Language and Loving It Graduation for early years practitioners, the
School Readiness Programme and even more Group Leader
Accreditations. These and other news will feature in our next edition
which will be available ahead of the new academic year.
The Genesis Programme is an area-based consortium with over 50 partner organisations.
That is a lot of people working together to improve outcomes for children and families in
our communities. It is delivering the Area Based Childhood (ABC) Programme funded by
the Department of Children & Youth Affairs, The Changing Lives Initiative which is funded
through Interreg VA and the Monaghan Anti-Bullying & Resilience Programme, funded
through Peace IV in conjunction with Cavan Monaghan ETB (Education & Training Board).
We hope you enjoy this UPDATE and remember you can keep stay in touch with
everything that is going on through our website, on Facebook and on Twitter - there are
links to each above!
Thank you to everyone who has supported or engaged with the programme over the past
academic year. Enjoy whatever break you get over the Summer and we look forward to
working with you again.
Linking the Learning for Early
Years Practitioners and Teachers
The Genesis Programme have launched a new guide, Linking the Learning, for early years
practitioners and teachers. The formal launch was done by Carolyn Webster-Stratton,
Developer of the Incredible Years®, during her three day visit to Louth.
The purpose of the Linking the Learning guide is to clearly demonstrate to early year
mangers, early year practitioners, primary school principals and teachers how The
Incredible Years® programmes complement the learning goals of the national curriculum
framework within both sectors.
Linking the Learning was developed by two members of The Genesis Programme project
team - Claire Gleeson (Early Years Development Officer) and Yvonne Forde (Schools
Development Officer).
Claire and Yvonne worked in conjunction with all the participating Early Year Services and
Primary Schools listed below, who have kindly allowed us permission to use photos of the
Incredible Years in action and throughout the document early year managers, practitioners,
school principals and teachers have shared detailed accounts of implementing The
Incredible Years® within their services and schools.

Memorable Dundalk and
Drogheda Graduations 2018
There were two amazing mornings in mid May when the 2018 Graduation Events were
held in Dundalk and Drogheda.
First up on the 17th May was the Drogheda Incredible Years® Graduation at the D
Hotel. There were truly inspiring testimonies from the parents! Well done to all those that
spoke on behalf of their groups. The Parent & Baby Group mammies brought their babies
and they lit the place up. Thanks to Bairbre Nic Lughadha who did a top job as MC and the
Group Leaders for their words and obvious support for the parents they guided through the
programmes. Carolyn Webster-Stratton gave an uplifting keynote speech and presented
the parents with their certificates.
Then on Friday 18th May we had the Dundalk Incredible Years® Graduation at the
Crowne Plaza. We had more inspiring testimonies from the parents! Well done to all those
that spoke on behalf of their group. Benny McArdle was as always a brilliant MC. Carolyn
gave another inspirational keynote speech and presented the parents and the early years
practitioners, who had completed the Incredible Beginnings Programme, with their
certificates.
Two never to be forgotten days! Congratulations all!
Visits to Early Years Services,
Schools & Community Groups
During her visit, Carolyn Webster-Stratton, visited a number of early years services,
schools and community groups, each showcasing the Incredible Years® in action and
demonstrating the impact it is having on their own community, their practitioners/teachers
and of course their children and their families.
In Dundalk, she spent time with St. Joseph’s NS, Lios na nOg, Muirhevnamor Springboard,
Gaelscoil Dhun Dealgain, Scoil Eoin Baiste and Redeemer Creche!!
In Drogheda, she visited St. John’s JNS, St. Patrick’s BNS, St. Brigid’s GNS, Marymount
NS and Moneymore Childcare Centre.
Carolyn really enjoyed each and every one of her visits and was in awe of the level of
Incredible Years delivery taking place. Along the way she picked up a cúpla focal and lots
of well wishing cards, pictures and gifts from the children.

10 Year Celebration of the First
Incredibe Years Programme
Delivered in Louth
There was a lovely welcome for Carolyn Webster-Stratton with a special
celebration to mark 10 years of Incredible Years® programme delivery in Dundalk
and Drogheda. Edel Healy and Benny McArdle from The Genesis Programme
Management Group made a presentation to Carolyn and the Group Leaders (Nora
McLoughlin, Sinead McGuigan and Gillian Plunkett) and one of the participants
(Nichola Chambers) from the very first programme to be delivered back in 2008
helped Carolyn cut the incredible cake!
