This spring has seen Carvoeiro bursting into life with events, entertainment and plenty of new businesses opening their doors.

There was great excitement at the start of March when the long awaited new Aldi supermarket opened for business with the opening day seeing people rushing in to find great deals. But while the new Aldi has added another shopping option for the area the

Intermarché supermarket between Carvoeiro and Lagoa has also been making massive improvements with new floors, fish counter, butchers area and enormous fridges.

Many of the local restaurants that had been closed for the winter months are now reopened in Carvoeiro itself and there are other new venues also opening with the new look Absolutely bar on the “in” road opening for business and Klub Centianes, formerly Algarve 2000 soon to open with live music and entertainment.

We also have a new Indian restaurant open now where Irish Times used to be and there are also two new hairdressing salons, one on the “in” road and the other on the “out” road while there is a new shop selling lovely baby and children’s clothes on the “in” road near to the ice cream shop, Le Petit Prince.

All of these improvements and new businesses show visitors and residents that Carvoeiro is most definitely open for business!

n Netball iN the algarveDo you want to get fit and join a fun and outgoing team of local residents? The why not join Netball in the Algarve training session held every Thursday (weather permitting) at the municipal courts in Carvoeiro.The sessions take place from 6.30pm for around one hour and involve women of all ages and nationalities – no matter what your skill level or experience.The team take part in several tournaments

throughout the year with the next being on April 6 at Browns in Vilamoura so if you are in the area remember to come down and support the Carvoeiro ladies!

Alyson and Dave Sheldrake will be displaying their unique and beautiful paintings and photographs during an exhibition entitled “New Beginnings” to be held at the Hotel Carvoeiro Sol until April 3.

The exhibition is free to enter and is open daily from 10am until 7pm with the original art on display all being for sale at affordable prices.

n ladies luNch club

Thursday April 11 will see the annual Algarve Ladies Lunch Club meeting at the Holiday Inn Algarve (formerly the Hotel Garbe) in Armação de Pêra. Ladies from across the Algarve are invited to take part in the informal lunch which will include a three course buffet followed by a talk from speaker Chris Wright who will be speaking about his time as a reporter.

Encourage your children to get fit and have fun during aerobics sessions held every Saturday at the Sala Ginastica in Carvoeiro (near to the Junta office).

These aerobics lessons are currently free and aimed at children between the ages of 4 and 10.

The lessons start each Saturday morning at 10.45am and last for approximately 30 minutes.

n teNNis club reopeNiNg

There has been lots of work going on at the Carvoeiro Clube de Ténis recently and to celebrate the changes owners Brigitte and Horst Hutz were due to welcome members and guests to a grand reopening of the club on March 30.

New tennis court surfaces, a new floor for the dance studio and a remodeled reception area are just some of the improvements that have taken place at the club which has seen a real lease of new life – congratulations to all involved.

n Lagoa Cinema SeSSionS

The cinemas may have closed in Portimão and at Algarve Shopping but you can still watch films in the area thanks to the Lagoa Câmara film sessions.

Once a month two films are shown, one aimed at children and the other at an older audience, with screenings taking place at the auditorium in Lagoa.

This month The Life of Pi is being screened on April 26 from 9.30pm with entry costing €3.50 while on April 28 the childrens film Adventures in Zambezia will be shown from 3.30pm with tickets costing from €3.

The darts season in Carvoeiro came to an end with a presentation ceremony for all the winners held at Acordeão.

This year the league was split into three different tiers to make the season run more smoothly and in the end it was Harrys bar 2 who were the overall winners coming in first position in the 1st league.

Congratulations to all of the many players who took part not only in the league matches but also in the open singles, doubles and triples competitions that were held around the town.

Darts is played on Friday nights in bars across the town from 9pm during the winter months with open competitions held throughout the season.

The small square in the centre of Carvoeiro hosted five days of fun and entertainment all in the name of Easter between March 27 and 31.

Local stall holders came out to sell handicrafts and perfect Easter gifts which attracted hundreds of visitors over the Easter holiday period.

The event was organized by Vozes Intensas, the local business association of Carvoeiro – congratulations to all involved for bringing a splash of colour to the town!

n Carnival oF luxury

Enjoy the glamorous side of life this month with the Carnival of Luxury taking place at the Centro Congresso do Arade in Parchal between April 25 and 29.

The event has been organised to combine luxury exhibitions with entertainment, live music and fashion shows

The Carnival of Luxury is open by invitation only on the first day and then will be open to the public on April 26, 27 and 28 of April with the final day dedicated to a Carnival of Business for CEO’s and entrepreneurs.
