II. GRAMMAR REVIEW:

Topic: Types of Pronouns: Absolute Possessive (5-6 minutes)

(絶対所有代名詞.)

Pronouns are words that replace nouns in a sentence. They are used to avoid repetition of nouns in a sentence or a paragraph. There are many kinds of pronouns, one of which is the absolute possessive pronoun.

代名詞とは、その名の通り、文中で名詞の代わりに使用される品詞です。名詞の反復使

用を避けるために使用されます。複数の種類の代名詞がありますが、そのうちのひとつ

が今回学習する「絶対所有代名詞」です。

The absolute possessive pronoun shows possession. Mine, yours, its, his, hers, ours and theirs are

examples of absolute possessive pronouns. (Xxx.)

「絶対所有代名詞」は、所有(「~のもの」)を表します。

(例:Mine, yours, its, his, hers, ours and theirs)

Remember: Unlike possessive pronouns which function as an adjective, the absolute possessive pronouns are pronouns that can stand on its own. Absolute possessives do not use an apostrophe.

(形容詞として機能する所有代名詞と異なり、絶対所有代名詞はそれだけで成立する代

名詞です。(例:所有代名詞 my pen 私のペン, 絶対所有代名詞 mine 私の物)

カンマ(’)は使用しないので、注意してください。(例:your’s とは言いません)

Examples:

1. I bought mine yesterday. 2. I will buy yours tomorrow. 3. This is mine, I gave hers already. 4. The car parked in the lot looks like ours.

1. 私は私の物を買いました。
