About�INFLIBNET
The Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) Centre is an autonomous Inter-University Centre of the
University Grants Commission (UGC). The objectives of the Centre are to modernize libraries and information
centres for information transfer and access, to support scholarship, learning and academic pursuit by establishing a
national network of libraries and information centres in universities, institutions of higher learning and R & D
institutions in India. Creation of national union database (IndCat), National Repository of Indian Theses and
Dissertations (Shodhganga) and Synopses/ Research in progress details (Shodhgangotri), development of an
integrated library management software (SOUL 2.0), human resource development, on-site training, providing
bibliographic information services, extending technical help and guidance from time to time to academic libraries
in automation and networking are some of the major activities of the Centre. The Centre provides access to e-
resources to Universities, Colleges and Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) in INDIA under e-
ShodhSindhu Programme. Under this e-ShodhSindhu programme, the Centre provides access to 15,000+ e-
journals, 31,35,000+ e-books and 16 databases to the registered member institutes in India.
Objectives of the Workshop
Big data describes large volume of structured or unstructured data with various characteristics such as volume,
velocity, variety and veracity. Big Data Analytics is emerging trend and technology which plays a vital role to find
out hidden patterns, unknown correlation and other useful information. The objective of workshop is to
understand the challenges to collect, store, organize and access the Big data, to perform analytics on Big data for
data intensive applications. This workshop aims at bringing the students, professionals, academics and research
scholars together to share the knowledge for achieving focused development and advancement in the field of
DATA SCIENCE.
The primary objective of the workshop is to present the essentials on Big Data & Hadoop concepts relevant for
research in Data Science. The workshop is designed to provide participants with the
(I) Introduction to Big Data and related tools with practical approach
(II) Overview of Hadoop ecosystem.
(III) Basics of Ambari, Hbase, Hive, Pig, Spark
(IV) Understanding of Hadoop framework with hands-on experience on MapReduce programs
Major Topics
The Scope of workshop is to cover theoretical discussion and practical exposure on the following aspects of Big
Data:
v Open Source Software/Tools for Big Data
v Big Data Fundamental and its applications
v Database Management System for Big Data (NoSQL/Graph)
v Hadoop Architecture & Ecosystem
v Installation & Configuration of Hadoop and its components
v Managing and Monitoring of Hadoop Components using Ambari
v Concepts of HDFS and MapReduce framework
v MapReduce Programming
Target Participants
Academicians, Faculties, Current and Prospective Research Scholars from IT discipline. A maximum of 25-30
candidates will be selected for the workshop on First-Come-First-Serve basis.
Resource Persons
The resource persons are prominent scientists / researchers / scholars in the field of Data Science across the
country. They have an extensive experience with the application of Big Data in a Research and Data Science.
Duration
Three days workshop includes theory & extensive practical sessions. th th ( 11 - 13 October, 2017)
Venue
The Workshop will be conducted at Information and Library Network Centre, An IUC of University Grants
Commission, Infocity, Gandhinagar-382007, Gujarat, India.
Workshop Fee
The registration fee is Rs. 3,540.00 (Rupees Three Thousand Five Hundred Forty only) per person without
accommodation and Rs. 5,780.00 (Rupees Five Thousand Seven Hundred Eighty only) with accommodation which
is inclusive of GST rates. It covers the cost of training programme kit containing training materials, breakfast, lunch
and dinner during the training period. The payment should be made through Demand Draft in favour of INFLIBNET
Centre payable at Gandhinagar along with filled-in registration form. Fee is non-refundable and non-adjustable.
The Centre also accepts payment by NEFT /RTGS for the workshop. The bank account details will be shared on
request.
Accommodation
The Centre will arrange accommodation during the period of training at INFLIBNET Guest House (A/C Room) on
twin sharing basis. The participants must send prior intimation and charges for accommodation along with
registration fees. The accommodation will be provided first come first basis.

Road Routes: Gandhinagar is connected to
Surat, Mumbai, and Navi Mumbai through
National Highway 8A. It is connected to
Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Udaipur, New Delhi &
Chandigarh through the National Highway 8C.
Air Connectivity: The nearest airport is Sardar
Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport,
Ahmedabad located at a distance of 15KM from
Domestic flights are available for the
Metropolitans and other major cities of India. It
also provides many International flights from
Ahmedabad to across the world.
Rail Connectivity: The nearest Railway Station
is Ahmedabad Railway Station (Known as
Kalupur) which is well connected to all
metropolitans and other major cities of India.
The Ahmedabad Railway station is located at a
distance of 23 Km from the INFLIBNET Centre,
Gandhinagar.
