Instructions
This booklet has been designed to help students and families work through the subject selection process. Students should follow the steps below:
Curriculum
1. Familiarize yourself with the Intermediate Years Curriculum Model (page 3) andCurriculum Guide (separate document)
PART 1 – Course Planning Record
2. PART 1 - COURSE PLANNING RECORD (page 2) provides detailed instructionsrelevant to Year 9 course selections. Students should work through each stepand keep records of their progress by checking the appropriate boxes.
PART 2 – Year 9 Planner
3. PART 2 – YEAR 9 PLANNER (page 6&7) should be completed to map out subjectselections.
4. Check the Learning Area Flow Charts for any prerequisites for future studypathways or subject choices.
PART 3 – Subject Selection Sheet
5. Complete the PART 3 - SUBJECT SELECTION SHEET by filling in all requiredboxes. It is vital that your choices are in priority order.
6. Make sure you have the correct subject selection sheet (page 8 -10) thatmatches your pathway (ie Tennis, Music, Mainstream).
7. Once complete, log onto Web Preferences and enter final subject selections
PART 4 –Against recommendations
8. Teachers have provided recommendations to assist with your subjectselections. These provide a guide as to your capacity for achieving success in aparticular subject area. It is not recommended that you choose againstrecommendations.
9. If you do wish to choose against subject recommendations you will need tocomplete the PART 4B - AGAINST RECOMMENDATION DECLARATION beforethe subject can be selected.
10. A hard copy of this should be submitted to your Home Group teacher.
PART 5 – Final Declaration
11. A PART 5 - FINAL DECLARATION must be printed and signed by you, yourparents, and your Home Group teacher.
12. Submit this to your Home Group teacher to finish the process

PART 2 – YEAR 9 PLANNER - In preparation for selecting your subjects have a look at the list of subjects on offer- Read course descriptions for any that interest you and look at the Year 9 sample in this booklet- Use PART 2 - YEAR 9 PLANNER
1. consider any subjects you may have/want to do in Year 102. plan out your possible subjects over year 9 & 10 accordingly
- Note: Compulsory course = purple boxes, Required courses = blue boxes, Free Choice = green boxes- Select required choices (blue boxes) from the Year 9 subject list only- Some free choice subjects are available to select at Year 9 or 10 (see table of subjects)- No more than four free choices are permitted from any single learning area (including reserves)

PART 3 - SUBJECT SELECTION - Compulsory courses (purple boxes) are prefilled on the PART 3 - SUBJECT SELECTION SHEET- Firstly, select subject PREFERENCES by filling each of the blue and green boxes- Then select RESERVES to fill the orange boxes. These must be selected according to the requirements in
each box ie. The Arts or Technologies or Free Choice Reserve. Free choice Reserves should be in priorityorder.
