Now, that might seem strange— that a show based on the works of Theodore Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss, would have anything to do with the spiritual— but you might be surprised. For example, I could have talked about a beauful song from the show called “Solla Sollew” as an illustraon of what this world could be like if the love of Jesus truly reigned in every heart. It is a song about a mythical land where life is peaceful and there is no war, no hate, no suffering. It is sung as a lullaby and here are a few of the lyrics, “They say breezes are warm there, and people are kind. Maybe it's something like heaven… If we can find it then all will be well, troubles there are few. Someday, we'll go to… Solla Sollew.” It is really very touching and thought provoking. But, there is one other song that, I think, can really make you think about your faith and your relaonship with God. It’s called “Alone in the Universe” and, in it, Horton thinks about his life where everyone treats him like an outcast simply because he hears a voice no one else can hear. He sings, “Not a person seems to know. Not a person seems to care. There is no one who believes a thing I say.” Horton is looking for that one person who understands what he is going through and accepts him for who he is, and his situaon reminds me that many people live lives of quiet desperaon and anguish, where they feel unloved and unwanted by the rest of the world and are looking for that one small voice, that one person who believes in them, who loves them just as they are. Even as Chrisans, we are not immune to feelings of isolaon and loneliness. There are mes when even we may feel alone and unloved. But, when we stop to think about it and pray, we know that God does understand everything that we are going through because, while he walked this earth, Jesus experienced the pain of loneliness, the heartbreak of rejecon, and no doubt there were mes when he felt unloved by his fellow human beings. And, he promised in Mahew 28 that he would be with us always to help carry the burdens of this life, to remind us that he knows what we are going through, to be that someone who believes in us and loves and accepts us just as we are. So thank you Jesus, and thank you Dr. Seuss for a subtle reminder that we are never alone in the universe. Peace and Presence, Rusty

The church I served in San Antonio once decided to

put on a musical, partly as a fundraiser but mostly to

have some fun. We decided on “Seussical” and, because

we were a church, many people asked about the

theological aspects of the show. Now, that might seem

strange— that a show based on the works of Theodore

Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss, would have anything to do with

the spiritual— but you might be surprised. For example, I could have talked about a

beautiful song from the show called “Solla Sollew” as an illustration of what this

world could be like if the love of Jesus truly reigned in every heart. It is a song about a

mythical land where life is peaceful and there is no war, no hate, no suffering. It is

sung as a lullaby and here are a few of the lyrics, “They say breezes are warm there,

and people are kind. Maybe it's something like heaven… If we can find it then all will

be well, troubles there are few. Someday, we'll go to… Solla Sollew.” It is really very

touching and thought provoking. But, there is one other song that, I think, can really

make you think about your faith and your relationship with God. It’s called “Alone in

the Universe” and, in it, Horton thinks about his life where everyone treats him like

an outcast simply because he hears a voice no one else can hear. He sings, “Not a

person seems to know. Not a person seems to care. There is no one who believes a

thing I say.” Horton is looking for that one person who understands what he is going

through and accepts him for who he is, and his situation reminds me that many

people live lives of quiet desperation and anguish, where they feel unloved and

unwanted by the rest of the world and are looking for that one small voice, that one

person who believes in them, who loves them just as they are.

Even as Christians, we are not immune to feelings of isolation and loneliness. There

are times when even we may feel alone and unloved. But, when we stop to think

about it and pray, we know that God does understand everything that we are going

through because, while he walked this earth, Jesus experienced the pain of

loneliness, the heartbreak of rejection, and no doubt there were times when he felt

unloved by his fellow human beings. And, he promised in Matthew 28 that he would

be with us always to help carry the burdens of this life, to remind us that he knows

what we are going through, to be that someone who believes in us and loves and

accepts us just as we are. So thank you Jesus, and thank you Dr. Seuss for a subtle

reminder that we are never alone in the universe.

Peace and Presence,

Rusty

Pastor’s Class Forming… Last Call

The Lenten season is the traditional time for churches to offer classes for people considering baptism. Pastor

Rusty will be leading a Pastor’s Class for anyone wishing to learn more about church membership and what it

means to be baptized into the Body of Christ. However, the Sunday Pastor’s Class is primarily for kids, so any

adults wishing to find out more about baptism should contact Pastor Rusty so a class designed for them can be

scheduled as well. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Pastor Rusty or call the

church office at 854-3044.

Sharing our Stories

Lent is now upon us and, as we have for the last few years, we have asked the members of FCC to share your

stories, through Lenten Devotionals, of those times when your life has been touched by God’s grace and mercy

and love. So far, we have received only a handful of devotionals with some people saying that they have already

told their story. But, God’s love doesn’t just touch us once and disappear. Experiencing God’s grace and mercy is

not a one shot deal. God presence can be, and is, felt in our lives every single day and, when we feel it, we have

another story to tell. And, it’s important to tell those stories because what you say is exactly what someone else

needs to hear to help them on their journey of faith. Lent started yesterday, but there is still time to share your

story. And. we would love to fill each day with stories from FCC. Please consider telling one of yours. You can

bring your devotionals to the church office or email them to [email protected]. Thanks for sharing.

Battleson Family Welcome New Baby Girl Thank you FCC for your caring and love on our new baby Neely Battleson. Though she was 3

weeks early, she is growing rapidly. I want to thank you for the rose this past Sunday. I'm sorry

that my family and myself was not able to be there. They are still helping me out here in New

Braunfels. Hopefully, in the near future we can bring her to church and show her off. We miss

our church family so much. Thank you. —Morgan & Jesse Battleson

Getting Ready for Baby A!

Jessie and AJ Lucio are preparing for

the arrival of their little girl in April and will

be having a shower for Jessie on March 15.

See the invitation

for more details and let’s make sure Baby A

has everything she needs when she arrives.

Children’s Moment

One of the highlights of worship for many people is the children’s moment. In fact, some people say that

they get more of that time than any other part of worship. Of course, it’s always good for the kids if they can

hear different perspectives on various topics and we know there are many members of FCC who want to

help kids on their journey of faith and are looking for an opportunity to serve. Well, this is it! We are looking

for several individuals to help with the children’s moment on a rotating basis. If you think you can't do some-

thing like this, think again, because there are plenty of resources out there that can help anyone teach a

child about the love of Jesus. All it really takes is a desire to serve. If you have that desire, please call Pastor

Rusty and he will help you get started.
