    This Is Your Promise!

    IN a hard-hitting speech,erman Chancellor Angela

Merkel asked Turkish and Arabmmigrants in her country to adopthristian values and learn the

    ocal language.Addressing a meeting of

    ounger members of he ro n s e r v a t i v e C h r i s t i a nemocratic Union (CDU) party atotsdam near Berlin recently, sheaid attempt to create a multi-ultural society has failedompletely.

This is the first time that Merkelas weighed in a blistering debateparked by a central bank board

member saying the country waseing made more stupid byoorly educated and unproductive

    Muslim migrants.Multikulti (multiculturalism),

he concept that we are nowving side by side and are happybout it, does not work, she toldhe meeting.

This approach has failed, otally, she said, adding thatmmigrants should integrate anddopt Germanys culture andalues. We feel tied to Christian

    alues. Those who dont accept

them dont have a place here, saidthe chancellor. Subsidizingimmigrants isnt sufficient,Germany has the right to makedemands on them, she added, such as mastering German andabandoning practices such as

    forced marriages.

Sometime before her speech,Turkish President Abdullah Gulalso urged the Turkish communityliving in Germany to master thelanguage of their adopted country.

When one doesnt speak thelanguage of the country in which

    one lives that doesnt serve

anyone, neither the personconcerned, the country, nor thesociety, the Turkish presidenttold the Suedeutsche Zeitung in arecent interview.

That is why I tell them at everyopportunity that they should learnGerman, and speak it fluently andwithout an accent. That shouldstart at nurseries, he added.

Horst Seehofer, the leader of theCDUs Bavarian sister party,CSU, who represents the right-wing, recently said Germany didnot need more immigrants fromdifferent cultures like the Turksand Arabs who are moredifficult to integrate.

The integration of Muslims hasbeen a hot button issue in Europe.

    Blessed [is] thenation whose God

[is] the LORD; [and]the people [whom]he hath chosen for

    his own inheritance.Psalms 33:12.

For no matter how many promises God has made, they areyes in Christ. And so through him the Amen is spoken by

us to the glory of God. - 2 CORINTHIANS 1:20 NIV

OR many Christians who dontunderstand the history behind it,yoga is simply a means of physicalF

xercise and strengthening and improvingexibility of the muscles. However, thehilosophy behind yoga is much more than

hysically improving oneself. It is anncient practice derived from India, elieved to be the path to spiritual growthnd enlightenment.

The word yoga means union, and theoal is to unite ones transitory (temporary)elf with the infinite Brahman, the Hinduoncept of God. This god is not a literaleing, but is an impersonal spiritualubstance that is one with nature and theosmos. This view is called pantheism,he belief that everything is God and thateality consists only of the universe andature. Because everything is God, theoga philosophy makes no distinctionetween man and God.

Hatha yoga is the aspect of yoga whichocuses on the physical body throughpecial postures, breathing exercises, andoncentration or meditation. It is a means torepare the body for the spiritual exercises, ith fewer obstacles, in order to achieve

nlightenment. The practice of yoga isased on the belief that man and God arene. It is little more than self-worshipisguised as a high level of spirituality. The question becomes, is it possible for a

hristian to isolate the physical aspects ofoga as simply a method of exercise,

without incorporating the spirituality orphilosophy behind it? Yoga originated witha blatantly anti-Christian philosophy, andthat philosophy has not changed. It teachesone to focus on oneself instead of on theone true God. It encourages its participants

to seek the answers to lifes difficultquestions within their own conscienceinstead of in the Word of God. It also leavesone open to deception from Gods enemy, who searches for victims that he can turnaway from God (1 Peter 5:8).

Whatever we do should be done forGods glory (1 Corinthians 10:31), and wewould be wise to heed the words of theapostle Paul: Fix your thoughts on what istrue and honorable and right. Think aboutthings that are pure and lovely andadmirable. Think about things that areexcellent and worthy of praise(Philippians 4:8, NLT). Courtesy: GotQuestions?

YOGA was in the news recently when the secular press in India and elsewhereicked up a storm over US pastor Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church, Seattle, alling yoga demonic. Even before him, R Albert Mohler Jr, president of theouthern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kentucky, US, had warned believersgainst yoga, which he calls pagan in its roots. He also adds, All forms of yoganvolve occult assumptions. So what is the real Biblical position on yoga?Find out...

FROM time immemorial, prophecies have fascinated theChristendom.

Scores of books have beenwritten on the book of Daniel andthe book of Revelations claimingto shed light on the last days. While some of them havefaithfully stuck to the Biblicalrevelations, some have gone offtangent like a loose canon.

New Zealander ChristianGedge has written a book thatseeks to throw light on the versefound in Mark 1:15 (The time isfulfilled). It is difficult to describeGedges The Atonement Clockas a simple book. If you do notfollow the author closely, chancesare you may end up putting itaside. However, to Gedges creditit must be said that the book doesnot use high academic knowledge. It is written for the average personwho is seriously willing to studythe subject.

Says Gedge: While it is true

that prophetic timelines have beenthe stomping ground of fringegroups and end-time cults, may Isuggest that it has defaulted tothem due to neglect of the subject?

Conservative scholars forgetsometimes that history andprophecy are two sides of the samecoin and I believe for this reasonwe should take the matter ofprophetic chronology moreseriously.

Some folk may balk at a few ofthe technicalities or when asked topull out a calculator and check thenumbers, but others will be

intensely interested. In either case,I hope I can replicate for you theshock and awe I felt when I firstdiscovered The AtonementClock, he says.

The implication of thisresearch is significant, and forthose who care to look you will notbe disappointed, adds the writer.

POPE Benedict XVI says peacein the Middle East is possible, urgently needed and the best wayto stop the emigration of peoplefrom the region.

Benedict also said religiousfreedom in the Middle East shouldbe expanded - an issue that couldbe the subject of dialogue betweenChristians and Muslims.

    Benedict called to discuss the

plight of Christians in the MiddleEast.

The exodus of the faithful fromthe birthplace of Christianity hasbeen a major theme during thesynod. The Catholic church haslong been a minority in the largelyMuslim region but its presence isshrinking further as a result ofconflict, discrimination andeconomic problems.

AMBITIOUS yet highlyontroversial, UID numbers wille linked to fingerprints, iriscans, personal information, a

microchip for easy scanning, andmore. Led by a new government

    gency called the Uniquedentification Authority of IndiaU I D A I ) , t h e p r o j e c t i spearheaded by Nandan Nilekeni,ne of Indias most famous techie-ntrepreneurs as the co-founder ofnfosys, who has been given

    minis te r ia l powers and am a g n a n i m o u s b u d g e t t omplement the grand plan.

According to Nilekeni, amonghe scores of advantages for theountrys people, the millions ofndias poor who are withoutccess to the governmentslethora of welfare schemesould benefit the most from theew identification system. The government has taken up

his project for two reason; one ishere are large number of Indianspecially those who are urban

    migrants and rural poor who doo t h a v e a n y f o r m o f

cknowledged existence by theate and therefore they face thehallenge of harassment in theirves. They do not get access to public

    ervices either. So the one of themain purposes of this program iso make life easier for the millionsf p o o r , m i g r a n t s a n d

marginalized (expected to be over00 million) people. As well as toive inclusion to them, saidilekeni.

The other is to make allgovernment welfare schemes farmore efficient by ensuring thatthey reach each and everydeserving poor, he says.

Critics condemn the UID as ablatant intrusion to privacy, a toolthat will increase bureaucracy andcorruption. In addition to beinghugely expensive and even illegal, the UID goes against basic humanvalues.

This project, has been initiatedwithout any prelude: there is noproject document; there is nofeasibility study; there has been nocost-to-benefit analysis and thereare serious concerns about dataand identity theft, said GopalKrishna, Member Citizens Forumfor Civil Liberties.

Worse, Krishna added, a projectthat could change the status of thepeople in this country, with regardto security and constitutionalrights has been initiated withoutany legal authorization; just on thebasis of an executive order.

The strongest opposition to theproject has been generated by the

fact that it aims to create a hugedigital database containingsensitive personal information inone central location. This is asecurity risk of immenseproportions, according to critics.

Given that the country hashardly any capability in securingits digital database, and an absenceof privacy laws, UIDs plans ofstoring its data in one centralizeddatabase is an immense risk, saidSunil Abraham, an activist at the

People Union for Civil Liberties. The trouble with a centralizedinfrastructure is that if it iscompromised, then all of it will becompromised, which can result inthe collapse of the countrysinformation systems.

Ni lekeni de f lec ts thesecriticisms, saying that the UIDAuthority will use the bestexpertise for security and we alsohave a policy of proactivelypublishing strategy policy reportand committee reports on ourwebsite as well. But argumentsagainst the project stretch on.

The other opposition is the useof biometrics for ID, saysAbraham. Our fear is that mostparts of the country do not havepower and if the system mandatesthat every time a rural resident hasto prove his identity biometricallyfor say collecting subsidized food, chances are that the process will beslower and more prone to failurebecause of lack of infrastructure.

    That could give rise to newerc o m p l i c a t i o n o r e v e nmanipulation of the biometric data

    - and hence an additionalopportunity for corruption.

A typical unlettered persond o e s n o t u n d e r s t a n d th ecomplexities of biometric datacollection and verification, saysJiti Nichani, a researcher and anadvocate, Alternative Law Forum.Given the rampant bureaucracyand corruption in the country, thiswould give yet another reason forthe corrupt to siphon off thelargesse.Asia Times

HE young man whowanted to be a pop singerThad a dramatic encounter

ith Jesus Christ in 1976. Theove of the Lord displayed atalvary turned his life completely.

When he realized who he was inesus Christ, his goals, ambitionsnd priorities in life changed one

y one. He now wanted to singnly for Jesus. Later in his life, ompelled by his love for the Lordnd a desire to save perishingouls, K Jacob quit his job as aollege lecturer and decided toerve the Lord. That was in 1986.astor K Jacob, founder ofevival Christian Worship Centre

n Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu,as since been ministering toundreds of people all around theountry. He is known as one of theoremost worship leaders in Tamiladu . THE CHRISTIAN

MESSENGER met him inhennai recently. Excerpts from

    he interview:

    What is worship?

Worship is the highest form ofraise. We worship God for Hiserson, character, attributes anderfection. We worship Him forho He is. It is the outpouring ofur soul in deep expressions ofeverence, awe, wonder anddoration.

    What is praise?

    Praise is an expression ofe a r t f e l t g r a t i t u d e a n d

hanksgiving to God for all that Heas done for us.

    How should we worship?

Worship is a lifestyle. Worshipshould become the lifestyle ofevery Christian. Its a big questionand it has a vast answer. Simplyput, we should worship God withHoliness. People should feel thepresence of God during worship, otherwise its a waste of time. He

is the Hero of our worship, so Hemust be there. If a worship leaderis not leading the people to thepresence of God, he is not doinghis job right.

    How should we not worship?

We should not worship withhypocrisy in our hearts. Youshould not stop worshiping God atthe emotional level. It should be anexercise where both your spiritbody are involved. That is trueworship. That's when you feelGods presence.

Tell us what hinders or marsworship.

    Wrong motives, ego problems,unholy living and lack of personalworship could hinder worship.The choir should have a worshipsession before the real worships t a r t s . T h e c h o i r sh o u ldexperience the presence ofworship.

Tell us about your personalworship time.

It goes beyond one hour a day.My favorite worship time isbetween 11 pm and 1 am. On an

average, I worship for one or two

    hours a day.

What are the qualities of aworship leader?

He should be a committed anddedicated person: committed to

God and the Church. He should bea model to the congregation andthe society. He must be a personalworshiper. He must spend timewith God in worship and prayerevery day. It will be good if he isalso a good singer with somemusic knowledge.

What is your view on dancingduring worship?

Nowhere in the Bible is itmentioned as an absolute must inworship. However, if one is led todance, he must dance butmaintaining dignity and decorum.Everything should be within its

    limits.

How about people speaking intongues during worship?

When we talk in tongues, it isour spirit that talks to the Lord.Singing in tongues should be inworship. 1 Corinthians 14:15 saysI will pray with the spirit, and Iwill pray with the understandingalso: I will sing with the spirit, and

I will sing with the understandingalso. Both must be in balance.

Your emphasis is on Godsglory in worship. Can youelaborate on that?

This is the third stage in thepraise and worship time. SeeingGods glory in worship ismentioned in 2 Corinthians 3:18.We must worship Him till you arefilled with His glorious presence.Habakkuk 2:14 says: For theearth shall be filled with theknowledge of the glory of the Lordas the waters covers the sea.

Its the worship pattern of theTabernacle from the outer court tothe holy place. And then, from theholy place to the most holy place.Getting into the glorious presenceis like entering into the most holyplace. Unfortunately, most of theworship sessions these days lackthis aspect. We stop at the holyplace itself. We are satisfied withit. But thats not the rightapproach. We should go beyond itand enter into the most holy place.

What are some commonmistakes worship leaders shouldavoid?

First of all, we should avoidprayerlessness. Secondly, timingis very important. Start on timeand stop on time. Do not preachduring worship. Wrong selectionof songs is another problem. Takecare to sing worship songs duringworship. You can make separatelists of praise songs and worshipsongs and use them for singing.Love the people and be gentle with

them. Wait for the musicians togive the key. Let there be anointedand Godly music. Flow in theHoly Spirit. Listen to the HolySpirit and His leading. Most ofthem are not sensitive to the HolySpirit; they have their own list forthe worship.

    What are the changes we

should bring about in ourworship sessions?

Every pastor and worshipleader should realize theimportance of the presence of theLord and take care to dwell in thepresence. They should teach thepeople to love God. They shouldbe willing to break the shackles oftraditions and be willing to have achange of worship. They mustrealize the need to have thetabernacle way of worship. Theymust take people to the presence ofthe Lord and worship God alone. Iwant more and more pastors and

churches to experience theglorious presence of God in thecoming days. It will bring a greatrevival in our churches, societyand in India. My heart desires tosee the manifest glory of God inour states. As it is said in Habakuk2:14, we should literally see theglory of God in the streets. Onlythen will all people be living holylives.

    How many songs have youwritten?

Though I have written only 10to 12 songs, I have translated morethan 100 English chorus to Tamil.

Jehovah Shalom Halleluya andAadiyum anthamun anavarae inTamil are some of the popularsongs. I have released six ACDand 7 VCD titles. The latest amongVCDs is Neerae parisuthar. Ihave also written a book calledHow to lead praise and worship.

The Kansai Franklin GrahamFestival, held in Osaka, was theculmination of efforts by hundredsof churches, 400 of which hadinvited Graham to preach in theKansai region, which representsabout one quarter of Japan'snational population.

According to media reports, with an attendance of 30,782, the'Kansai Festival' was one of thelargest gatherings of Christians inthe history of Osaka, the largest

city in the Kansai region, and tooktwo years to prepare. For Christian leaders in Japan,

the festival was a much-neededevent to not only bring individualsinto saving grace, but also tobreathe new life into churches inthe Kansai region, some of whichsuffer from small and agingmemberships and some evenwithout pastors.

As a result of a decreasingchild population, Sunday school

enrollment is down. Someseminaries and theological

department have closed. There arevery few young Christian leadersin our country to assume the rolesof senior leaders, reported theRev Yoshikazu Takada, executivechairman of the Kansai Festival, ahead of the three-day event.

Despite the struggles whichhave been compounded by Japan'sslow economy, high rates ofsuicides, and reports of school anddomestic violence churches inthe areas have found hope in theKansai Festival, which wassupported by church leaders fromother cities, including Sapporo,Fukuoka, Hiroshima and Tokyo.

This is God's time for Japan,Graham said at the conclusion ofthe service.

When asked how the event'ssuccess would be measured,Graham told reporters that thesuccess of any evangelicalmeeting depends on prayer.

There have been thousands ofpeople praying. If one person wereto give their life to Jesus Christ thisweek, it would be successful, heresponded.

and monotheism had becomeunpopular and were widelyregarded as dangerous, arrogantand potentially violent, he said.

Christian website for 11 years,Liveprayer.com, has receivednumerous death threats fromfundamentalist Muslims over theyears for his stand that Islam is afalse religion, with a false book, and a false prophet. Recently, hereceived another threat to his life.

Keller, who has been in thenational and international pressrecently for opening his 9-11Christian Center at Ground Zeroas a response to the proposedmosque by the site of the attacks of9/11, received a detailed call froma person stating they represent theIslamic Center of SouthwestFlorida in Ft. The call explicitly stated thatKeller would be killed for hisdisrespect of Allah and theIslamic religion.

Keller is no stranger to conflictwith Islam. In 2007, underpressure from the extremistMuslim group CAIR, Kellershighly rated nightly TV programthat ran for 4 years on a CBSowned station in Tampa, Florida, was cancelled by CBS because herefused to stop telling his viewersthat according to the Bible, Islamis a 1400-year-old lie from hell, and that history clearly showsMohammed was a murdering

Keller also has numerousfatwas (sentences of death) issuedagainst him for a video he sent in2006 to Osama Bin Laden that wasplayed worldwide in which Kellerencouraged Bin Laden torenounce the lies of Islam andcome to faith in Jesus Christ.

Everything is relative nowexcept for this one new andultimate truth that there is nosingular truth, he said. All thoseprofessing a singular truth shouldbe silent in a tolerant world.

RE we living in the endAtimes?Let me take you on a short

urney into the modern world andhen you can answer my question.

    In the developed countriesr o u n d t h e w o r l d , m o s t

mportantly in the US and ineveral nations in Europe, youould notice three striking thingsmass immigration into the west,

n increase in false religions and arowing clamour for alternativefestyles.Europe is growing larger by the

ear with several smallerountries joining the Europeanconomic Committee (EEC).Christians must realize that

ternative lifestyle is a cover-upor homosexual proclivities andcentiousness. It keeps God out of

    ne's life.Turn the pages of newspapersn d y o u w i l l s e e t h a tcumenicalism is gaining groundhe world over.

Every now and then, you willear a big-time preacher telling ushat all religions can not only co-xist but also work together for thereater welfare of humanity. Thereno greater humbug than this.

Paul spoke with regard to theend time is truly upon us. And thesad fact is the younger generationis clueless in spiritual truth, notknowing right from wrong whenmorality is at an all-time low.Look around you and you willrealize that crimes are on theincrease and people across theworld are living and followingevery inclination of their ownheart.

What is interesting is the factthat every fabric of society is

crumbling and yet people stillseem to nurse hope that all will bew e l l so o n . A n d th a t t h eunprecedented financial problemsthat the world is experiencing willsoon be over. If you think I ambeing pessimistic, consider this.At one time businesses used to gobankrupt, now we are seeingcountries go bust. Greece is anexample. It is so heavily in debtthat richer countries have to bail itout.

People just cannot seem torecognize the truth aboutalternative lifestyles. Your truthmay be different from my truth, but who says yours is right andmine is wrong is the popularthinking. They hold up like wellworn-out placards this line againand again.

This synchronisation of the so-called truths is an ideology thatcomes from pure ignorance, plainand simple. Well, the great fallingaway is happening. People arestating that what was once evil is

    BY MARK JACKSON

now good and what was oncegood is now evil (Isaiah 5:20).

Falling away from what? The truth that has been given to

us through the Bible (the infallibleand inherent word of truth) is thatall men must come to God throughJesus Christ alone. However, people do not want this truth now,and those who once knew thistruth once are turning their backson it. They reject the Word of Godand hence reject God Himself.

    Falling away is the great

apostasy, the great turning theirbacks on God, and His Word, HisSon, His way of salvation, andholiness. They fall away fromwhat is right so they can embracethe joys of sin, no matter howshort-lived they might be.

In their desire to create a secularsociety, governments of the daytake God out of the picturecompletely. They remove the truthand replace it with a anythinggoes mentality. Here we have thenear perfect stage for the anti-christ to appear; a godless leaderruling over a near-godless society.

We are seeing this in Europe, especially in England where aspineless leadership that has nopower to self govern because it hassold itself to the EuropeanParliament in Brussels exists. Likethe rest of Europe it is beinggoverned and told what to do bythe political parties. Incidentally, did you know while the EECparliament has 750 members, seatnumber 666 remains empty at this

moment? (Source: The EUFinal World Empire).

The good news is that truth isstill here as the true Bible-believing church keeps onspreading the truth of the gospel asit is contained in the Scripture.Anything outside of the Scriptureis fallible, man-made and to berejected in toto if it is presented asgospel truth. The Bible is veryclear in its end-time preaching(eschatology), and those wishingfurther information on this woulddo well to read the Bible, the Wordof truth and the Word of God.

    GUEST COLUMN

THERE are two questionsChristians should be askingthemselves today: where is thechurch not present and what arewe going to do about it, said PaulEshleman, founder of the Jesusfilm project and vice president ofCampus Crusade for Christ

International.Eshleman said it was a tragedythat there were still 2,252language groups in the worldtoday that do not have anyScripture in their own languages.

The incredible thing is thatafter 2000 years there are stillpeople everywhere who haven'theard and the global body ofChrist needs you, needs yourorganization and whatever youcan give to the cause of theKingdom to go where nobody hasever gone, too to the people groupsthat haven't been reached, topeople without access to theGospel, he said.

It was also wrong, hecontended, that there should stillbe people groups today that haveno missionaries, no church andnobody even planning to go.

Its absolutely wrong and myquestion to us is: how much longerwill we wait?

Eshleman said the churchshould be thinking about thepeople groups with the mosturgent needs and find a way to goto them. He gave the example ofone mission agency which chosewhere to send its missionaries

according to where they hadreceived an invitation.

The people groups who needyou the most dont have anybodyto invite them, he said.

Although people tend tovisualize the ones in need asliving in villages with smallhuts, Eshleman said many of theunreached people today wereliving in cities.

He told the story of aconversation he had one time withhis Iranian hairdresser back in theUS. When he asked how manytimes someone had invited herinto their home since coming tothe US, she confessed that she hadnever received a single invitation.

Among Muslims, Hindus andBuddhists - who make up half theworlds population - some 86% ofthem do not personally know abeliever. Thats our fault, hesaid. We need to be involved.

With only 448 out of the worlds

8,000 languages having acomplete Bible translation,E sh l e m a n sa id S c r ip tu r etranslation was the number onepriority for the church today.

How can we send out amissionary if they dont have theScripture in the language toproclaim Christ, he said.
