"For One in such a lofty position tostoop so low is a marvel that isstaggering. What sublime humility

and humble sublimeness, that theLord of the Universe, the Divine Son

of God, should stoop as to hideHimself under the appearance of bread for oursalvation! Behold the humble way of God, my

brothers. Therefore, do not hold yourselves tobe anything of yourselves, so that you may be

entirely acceptable to One Who Gives Himselfentirely to you."

    - St. Francis of Assisi

Fruitful Labor for the LordThe harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to sendout laborers into His harvest.Luke 10:2

Franciscan Fathers Eddie and Ginoare doing

outstanding work ministering to the spiritualneeds of the White Mountain and San CarlosNative Americans. They give their thanks for allthe support they have received. Now they can use your help in ministering to abasic temporal need, the need for food,(especially fruits and vegetables which arelacking in the local diets). and help in deliveringit to the people.Unemployment in the area is 70-90 % as a resultof the current economic situation and the Rodeo-Chediski forest fire that shut down the locallumber industry.Several members of our Faith in Action Ministryhave been taking citrus and other basic fruitsand vegetables to San Carlos and WhiteMountain.

The Sunflower Farmers Market, located on MillerRoad at Camelback, has been extremelysupportive of this effort.

    You can also help

Volunteers are needed to make occasionaldeliveries to the Missions. If you do this on aSunday, its a special joy to attend mass there.

You could also make a monetary donation to helppurchase citrus and other basic food items. Yourprayers for the Apaches will be especiallyappreciated. If you would like to help in thisFruitful Effort, or if you have any questions, please call Bill Isenberger [email protected]

    REFLECTIONS ON MINISTRY

It helps now and then, to step back and takethe long view.

The Kingdom is not only beyond our efforts,it is even beyond our vision.

We accomplish in our lifetime only a tinyfraction

of the magnificent enterprise that is God'swork.

Nothing we do is complete, which is another way of saying

that the Kingdom always lies beyond us.

No statement says all that should be said.No prayer fully expresses our faith.

No confession brings perfection. No pastoral visit brings wholeness.

No program accomplishes the church'smission. No set of goals and objectives includes

    everything.

This is what we are about. We plant the seeds that one day will grow.

We water seeds already planted, knowing that they hold future promise.

we lay foundations, that will need furtherdevelopment.

We provide yeast that produces effects far

    beyond our capabilities.

We cannot do everything, and there is a sense of liberation in realizing

that. This enables us to do something, and to do it

very well.It may be incomplete, but it is a beginning,a step along the way,

an opportunity for the Lord's grace to enterand do the rest.

We may never see end results, but that is the difference

between the master builder and the worker. We are workers, not master builders,

ministers, not messiahs. We are prophets of a future that is not

    our own.

Franciscan Renewal Center - Faith in Action 4

A Message from the Director:JustFaith is a 30-week adulteducational and formational programthat provides a lively and challengingformat to read, view, discuss, pray, experience and be formed by the

justice tradition of the Church thatchanges lives, inspires faithful witness and transformsthe world through love and service. Our Catholicfaith and biblical tradition extend an extra ordinaryinvitation to become agents of God's compassionand healing in a wounded world. Most of us long tobe a generous and compassionate people;however, occasion to explore this in a deliberateand engaging way have largely not been available. This program offers you the time, the space, thematerial and a community of seekers to explore thisrich tradition.

Past JustFaith participants are involved in manyefforts, Here at the Casa they are involved in theLiturgy and Justice Study team, the Casa AdvocacyNetwork, the Faith in Action Advisory Team, theCasa Grounds for Solidarity - fair trade coffeeministry and Pax Christi to just name a few. The nextJustFaith session will begin in mid-September. Thegroup is forming NOW! Please notify me of yourinterest if you haven't done so yet and plan toattend the following sessions: August 22nd (after all the morning masses) an

information session August 30th 6:30-8:30pm Discernment Meeting.Testimony from prior participants:Prior to our Just Faith experience, we had served for

many years in Christian Initiation and ecclesial

ministry as well as studied theology at the Kino

Institute. In conjunction, we both had left our

"secular" careers to work in faith-based organizations

one for the Church and the other for a homeless

service organization. JustFaith was just what we

needed not only to confirm where we had beengoing but also to push us further into the world to be

God's "compassionate justice." That push resulted in

our involvement in Pax Christi, an international,

    grassroots Catholic peace organization. JustFaith

helped us to understand that our covenant

commitment to each other, our marriage should

extend to all of God's creation. What better way

than to work for "the peace for which our world

    hungers." the Peace of Christ!

We collected 227 backpacks this year!

This year the Faith In Action Ministry was asked to providebackpacks for two different organizations. We traditionally

collect for the children in the foster caresystem. We work with Catholic Charitieswho recruits and supports the families

who take in these children. With Statebudget cuts, the families have even lessmoney to work with as they take care of

these abused or neglected children. The 125 backpackswith school supplies that we send to them will be greatlyappreciated. The second group that we will be helping isan orphanage in Haiti. Six months after the earthquake

the conditions are still very dire. We are happy that wecan send them 102 new backpacks to them. We asked ifthe Casa community could double their efforts and youdid so! As said in the gospel of Luke and Matthew Welldone good and faithful servant

The Season for Nonviolence encourages people tolook more closely at how they can contribute to peaceby living nonviolently themselves while also working tobuild a less violent more peaceful world. Each year a

planning team assembles to create and organize thevarious events, retreats, workshopsand prayer experiences that are apart of the Season. You are invitedto join the group. Our first meetingto plan the new season will takeplace on Monday, August 9th at 6pm with dinner. If you have ideas and like to planevents, please think about joining the group.
