Mayor Pauline Gon- zales and all but one council member, Brian Wood, were present. The Pledge of Al- legiance was recited by all in attendance. Public Works Director Daniel Garcia reported that so far 3-4 trailers of asphalt have been used for repairs, stating, “Potholes are getting fixed.” Garcia also explained that the city is using better material than previously used for repairs. Mayor Gonzales reminded Garcia to make sure to record all hours and invoices to be provided to FEMA for reimbursement. Garcia reported that wa- ter usage for Rocksprings is still within daily and monthly compliance, and that our usage is actually way below what the permit actually allows. As it pertains to the hunt- er’s dumpsters, so far there have been no complaints, and the city is dumping them three times a week now, instead of just once like last year. City Secretary Katherine Harris provided her monthly office report to the council. All invoices are paid and current, and she also added that she will soon be attending an seminar on election law. The agenda items were discussed and action was tak- en. October meeting minutes were approved; approval was granted to publish a notice of a public hearing for the application of a TXCDBG Community Development grant. The hearing was set for Monday the 19th at 5:30 p.m. Also approved were ad- vertising for engineering and administrative services for the grant contract. A grant from the Ed- wards County Economic De- velopment Corporation in the amount of up to $10,000 was awarded to the American An- gora Goat Breeder’s Associa- tion for new computer(s) and software. The city council did not pass an ECEDC grant for the Hitching Post Laundromat. The main reason for this was the issue of public parking for the potential business. It should be noted that council member Sharron Croft, employee of the ECEDC abstained from voting and council member Melinda BY EDWARDS COUNTY DEPUTY DARRELL VOLKMANN On Wednesday of November 7th at approximately 8:40 p.m., a deputy was dispatched to Vaquero’s in Rock- springs, TX 78880 in Edwards County Texas in reference to a hit and run. The deputy spoke to a 911 caller in refer- ence to a dark in color SUV that had backed up into a light colored Dodge pickup. The caller stated that the vehicle had turned on Main St. where they had lost sight of it. Edwards County dispatch also advised that there was a 911 caller stating that there was an SUV that had cut through his yard and struck some trees. The vehicle was located on N College St. by the RV park with substantial damage to the entire length of passenger side. Upon speaking to the driver, he admitted to strik- ing the vehicle at Vaquero’s Cafe, fleeing the scene, and then plowing through the yard on N College St. in Rock- springs, Jose Luis Gonzalez (18) from Houston, Texas was arrested for failure to report of Duty in Striking Unat- tended Vehicle, a Class B Misdemeanor, and was cited for multiple violations and then transported to the Edwards County Detention Center for processing. A Class B Misdemeanor is punishable up to 180 days in jail and/or a $2000.00 fine. Rocksprings Junior High Lil’ Lady A’s won their first game of the season Monday against Medina. They are coached by Allison Burleson. Game results on page 3. Photo by Kristen Satterfield Ortiz voted in opposition to the grant. Should the concerns for this business grant be worked out, perhaps the topic will appear on next month’s city council meeting agenda. Mayor Gonzales read aloud Resolution 11-2018 in support of the City of Eagle Pass with Middle Rio Grande Region and the development of a regional transportation corridor plan. This will not cost the City of Rocksprings any money. The Resolution is to upgrade regional highways to align with Interstate standards. This is to increase trade and transport with Mexico, known as the “Ports to Plains Corri- dor.” For more information on this or any other topic please contact City Hall or any city council member. The next regularly sched- uled city council meeting is set for Monday, December 10th. RHS Lady Angoras hit the court Houston man arrested for hit and run incident BY COACH ALLISON BURLESON The Rocksprings Lady A’s high school basketball teams traveled to the San Angelo area twice in one week before finally playing in their home opener against Junction-all in just 7 days. First the two teams trav- eled to Grape Creek on Tuesday, November 13th where the JV team got their first win. The team managed to outscore their opponent a few points per quar- ter with a final winning score of 29 to 19. Scoring for the JV team were Angela Morales, Kaiya Germany and Vivica Mu- noz with 7 points each, Jacelyn Venegas with 6 points and Ruby Morales with 2 points. Ailynn Infante and Sydnee McDonald also helped in the win. Next, the varsity team took the floor. The Grape Creek shooters found the basket from the perimeter, but were unable to stop Zoe Burleson under the basket. Rocksprings trailed by 1 point at the end of the first quarter - 12 to 13. The Lady A defense improved in the second quarter and the ladies were able to hold the Grape Creek team to 2 points while making 11 of their own. However, the 8 point lead going in to the second half was not enough to stop the offensive attack from the Eagle team. The Lady A’s defense fell apart, and it cost them the game. The final score was Eagles 49 and Lady A’s 41. Scoring for the Lady A’s were Burleson with 31, Jasmine Carrillo and Rebecca Ruiz with 3 each and Andrea Ruiz and Nikki Rangel with 2 each. Also playing for the Lady A’s were Amandah Viera and Natalie Roman. On Friday, November 16th, the Lady A’s once again traveled east of San Angelo to Veribest. The Rocksprings team was not prepared for the fast, pressing team. The JV lost 17 to 24. With only 5 girls playing without back up, Venegas scored 7, Neveah Sifuentes 6 and In- fante 4. Munoz and Germany rounded out the team of 5. The varsity team struggled to get the ball in the basket. The very physical game and the speed of the opposing team was too much for the Lady A’s. The poor defense and high turnover rate led the Angora team to a crush- ing loss of 26 to 68. Burleson scored 23, Rangel 2 and Viera 1 point. The home opener would come for all Rocksprings bas- ketball teams. Six games were played on Monday, Novem- ber 19th as the Rocksprings school began their Thanksgiving Break. After the JH games, the JV team continued the win- ning against the Junction Lady Eagles. They started off a little slow with only a one point lead at the half - 9 to 8, but then, they upped their defensive game and put the ball in the basket. The team won 28 to 12. Sifuentes scored 12 points, Infante 8, Ven- egas 5, Cadejra Ramos 2 and Munoz 1. Germany also played in the winning game. Next the varsity team would battle for a win. The team worked a little harder on their defensive effort and managed to hold a 5 point lead at the half. As the team in red would score, they would make a defensive mistake and let the Junction team score. The back and forth game kept the crowd excited, but the Lady A’s finished the game with a win of 43 to 35. Burleson scored 28, Rangel 6, R. Ruiz 4, Viera 3, and Carrillo with 2. Others playing in the game were A. Ruiz, Ven- egas, and Roman. After the Thanksgiving Break, the Rocksprings teams will travel to Brackettville on November 27th.
