TAIRUA SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 19th June 2012
Week 9 of 10
Kia Ora tatou Sailors Grave was a hive of activity last Thursday with chil-dren, Parents and Teachers ready and eager to make a dif-ference to our environment. Cherry and Trevor Ladd (Kauri 2000) have been heroic in their quest to re-establish Kauri in this area and evidence suggests that the battle is being won. With a great bunch of parent helpers, the children were able to plant over 100 trees in this area and managed a small, yet, valuable clean up of Otara Bay. I would like to congratulate the Kauri 2000 organisation, the students from Room 4 and those parent helpers that assisted with is ongo-ing, inspiring effort to re-establish Kauri in our backyard. Matariki Week at Tairua Te Kura: Yesterday we had Briar from Sport Waikato in to explain Tapawae to our senior classrooms. This is a strategy game that uses a wide range of large ball skills and thinking strate-gies to achieve points. This sport is growing in popularity within primary and intermediate schools across New Zea-land. Our hangi is just around the corner and we are in need of a few items;; potatoes (boiling/roasting), kumara, pumpkin and cabbage are required. If every child brings a plastic bag containing 3 potatoes, a piece of pumpkin, 2 kumara etc we are confident there will be plenty of kia for our commu-nity and special guests. The idea is that we donate items from home, or, from our garden instead of going out and buying food. All donations need to be sent to school this Wednesday and placed in the M.P.R room. For those par-ents and caregivers that had indicated an interest in helping out with our hangi prep, could you please be at school from 10:00 tomorrow morning, equipped with knives, peelers and chopping boards.

Students Leaders Message: There will be no disco this Friday night. The decision was made to postpone the disco to term 3, when we have more time to organise it. Lots of sickness:
seen a dramatic increase in sickness and other related health issues. With the colder weather now well and truly upon us, I encourage you to ensure your child is dressed ap-propriately. Students need warm jerseys and jumpers, ther-mals, beanies and jackets on these cold days. Better to be over prepared than find yourself cold and uncomfortable during break times and E.O.T.C sessions. This visit involves everybody in the school community from the B.O.T, staff, children and parents.
