1 President Nancys Message Thank you for supporting me as your president for the past two years. I also want to thank the current officers and committee chairs for the work they have done for Tau Chapter and Delta Kappa Gam- ma. It takes all of us working to- gether to accomplish the worth- while things we do. So many of you have contributed time and tal- ent to make this a positive and re- warding experience for me. I personally had three main goals as president when I started this biennium: The first was to com- plete the chapter website and get it certified which we achieved last October. My second goal was to increase our membership, a goal the chapter has had for several years. I admit I was a bit discouraged at first when five members died the first five months I was president. But we persevered and will be initiating 15 new members this year!! How exciting this is to have all these new members to energize our chapter and to bring new ide- as and future leadership to Tau! It would not have been accomplished without the current membership working together to make our January orientation meetings so successful. My third goal was to make our meetings informative and give us an oppor- tunity to build relationships and get better acquainted as members. Think- ing of all we have done during the past two years —we hosted a very suc- cessful Mid-MO council meeting; we have had programs on a wide variety of topics; we have had good participation at convention and other non- chapter meetings; and we have enjoyed good fellowship at our delicious meals that are a vital part of supporting our recruitment grants. That sounds like success to me. As we look ahead to the meeting on April 14 th in Eldon, our hostesses have chosen butterflies as their theme because they symbolize new birth. It is an appropriate theme as we look toward a new biennium with new members and new leaders. I hope you will be able to attend to welcome our initiates, honor our Lady of Distinction, support our new officers, and congratulate our recruit- ment grant recipients. To Honor women who have given or who evidence a potential for distinctive service in any field of education.

We are initiating 14 ladies: Melissa Gerhart and Amy Wilhelm from High Point, Kristi McGrew from School of the Osage (there may be one more

but I am waiting to hear), Tabatha Silvey and Kate Lootens from California, Kim Bruce from Jefferson City, Brittany Davenport, Michelle Robinett, Debra Sash, Bobbie

Grant, Amy Pratt, Twyla Limbach, Brandy Albrecht, Stacey Dunham all from Eldon.

Paige Fain, Jennifer Wrye, Misti Maples, and Amy Fowler, also, ac-cepted but due to conflicting situations they will not be able to attend April 14th and will be initiated at the summer meeting. Only one person who sent an application changed her mind: Amy Hoecker felt this was not a good time in her life with having triplets to try to join, but she may reconsider in the future.

Thank you hostesses for sharing DKG and Tau at the four local meet-ings. Congratulations on a job well done.

I hope Tau members can attend to welcome our new sisters.

Tau Chapter will honor our 2018 Lady of Distinction Ruth Willhite!

Tau Webmaster Nancy Lewis

Personal message from the Webmaster: Over the past two months, my husband and I have been preparing to move to Saint Joseph, MO. We have been spending half of each week in both houses preparing for our move in May. For the first time in our adult lives, my sister and I will live in the same community. I am loving having her pop in and check on the progress in our new “fixer upper” house which is on track to be ready to move in by the end of April. This has helped us to know that this is truly the best decision for us at this time in our lives. On the other hand, we are leaving a community that has been our home for 27 years. There will be many people we will miss. Tau Chapter is no exception. I will always treasure the friendships I have made through Delta Kappa Gamma and being a part of this society. I plan to retain my membership in Tau Chapter for the near future and participate by continu-ing to be the webmaster. This is a way I can contribute to the chapter and remain active long distance.

Plans for the Website: With the large influx of new members, the membership section of our website needs a total re-vamp. This is a project that I would like to tackle after I am settled in Saint Joseph. This will be a great opportunity for all of us to update our information. So take a look at your bio and see what may be out-of-date. Has your teaching assignment changed? Have you changed school districts? Have you re-tired? Please send me any changes you want to make to my email: [email protected] My goal is to have this project completed by mid-July.

To Endow scholarships to aid outstanding women educators in pursuing graduate study and to grant fellowships to non-member women educators.

President Nancy’s Reminder: Each of you should has received a copy of the DKG News that explains all of the proposed amendments to the DKG Con-stitution and International Standing Rules. The discussion of and voting on the proposals will be the major business conducted at the 2018 International Con-vention in Austin, Texas, in July. The purpose of these proposed changes to “simplify and move the Society forward” according to our International President Carolyn Pittman. One of the most visible proposals is to change our name to “Women Educators International (DKG).” Other proposals address the very ques-tions and discussions that we in Tau chapter have had recently. I urge you to familiarize yourself with these proposals by at least skimming through them so you have an idea of what they contain. The new officers will be addressing any changes that are approved this summer when Tau will have to update our stand-ing rules starting in the fall. All members will play a vital role in shaping the future of our chapter. You can go to our website, “International,” DKG member (if asked for member #, you will find it on your bio page), Resources, “2018 Proposed Amendments.” You might want to look at the “FAQ’s Re-garding Proposed Amendments.”
