2016 Fall RecuitmentPanhellenic Association (PHA) & Interfratentiy Council (IFC)

The women of the Panhellenic Association willhost PHA Recruitment from Tuesday, August23rd until Sunday, August 28th. Recruitment issponsored by SHSU's five PHA organizations:Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Delta Pi, AlphaOmicron Pi, Sigma Sigma Sigma, and Zeta TauAlpha. Eligibility to participate in therecruitment process is limited to those womenwho are :

-Currently enrolled in the university a full-timestudent 12 hours or more-In good standing with Sam Houston StateUniversity with a 2.5 GPA or better overall GPA

The Panhellenic Association emphasizes theimportance of academic excellence, communityoutreach, leadership, and sisterhood. To learnmore about joining a sorority/registering forrecruitment, please visit our website atshsu.edu/org_npc. Registration for 2016 FallRecruitment will open on June 6th and willremain open until August 21st at the latest. Forall who fail to register prior to August 11th, anadditional late fee of 20$ will be added.

Recruitment week for the men of theInterfraternity Council will begin on Tuesday,September 6th @5:00PM in the LSC Ballroomwhere they will meet & greet the nine chaptersthat SHSU has to offer: Phi Gamma Delta,Kappa Alpha, Phi Delta Theta, Alpha TauOmega, Theta Chi, Kappa Sigma, Sigma Chi,Tau Kappa Epsilon, and Delta Tau Delta.Students who are not in good standing withSam Houston State University will not beallowed to participate in recruitment.

From the 6th until the 9th, prospectivemembers will have an opportunity to speakpersonally with and interact with members ofour active chapters to further determine whichfraternity will be the best fit for them. Bid Daywill be the culmination of the week which willtake place on Saturday, September 10th@9:00AM in Old Main Pit where they willreceive their bid cards and ultimately choosetheir choice of fraternal organization.

Registration can either be done online at theshsu.edu/org_ifc or at the first day ofrecruitment on September 6th. Whether yousign-up in person or online, a 20$ cashrecruitment fee will be due the first day ofrecruitment.

2016 Fall RecruitmentMulticultural Greek Council (MGC) & National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC)

The Multicultural Greek Council at SHSU is comprised of 9organizations: Delta Xi Nu, Kappa Delta Chi, Lambda Theta Alpha, Lambda Theta Phi, Omega Delta Phi, Omega Phi Chi, Sigma Kappa Omega, Sigma Lambda Beta, andSigma Lambda Gamma. The Multicultural Greek Council serves as a governing body which creates and maintains high standards in the life of culturally-based fraternities and sororities.

For those students interested in learning more about whateach MGC chapter has to offer, the Multicultural Greek Council will be hosting the MGCShowcase on September 8th @6PM where each chapter will present background informationin addition to a stroll, step, or salute. Following the presentation, interested students willhave the opportunity to meet members from each organization and learn more aboutupcoming recruitment events and requirements for each organization.

The National PanHellenic Council at SamHouston will host their annual 10th AnnualGreek Assembly at 5:30 in the LSC Ballroom.Each of the three NPHC organizations, AlphaPhi Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, and Phi BetaSigma, will give a brief overview oftheir chapters. At the Greek Assembly,students learn about the organizationshistory, programs, membership requirements,and gain a better understanding of the NPHCGreek experience.

Information is also presented on current university policies regarding hazing. Following theprogram, students will have the chance to interact with members of each NPHC organization.Attendance at the NPHC Greek Assembly is required for all students interested in membershipin a NPHC sorority or fraternity. Please be on time and dress in business attire as this is aprofessional event.

Greek SpotlightDulce & Sam detail their Greek experience thus far and offer advice for those looking

to join

Dulce Parra is from San Antonio, Texas (Go Spurs!), and has beenattending Sam Houston State since the fall of 2012. seniorpursuing a degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Spanish.She was initiated into Kappa Delta Chi Sorority inc. in Spring2014. Since her initiation, she has the positions of standardsOfficer and Vice President. Dulce is proud to announce that shewill be holding the office of President for Kappa Delta Chistarting this fall. Outside of Kappa delta Chi, Dulce is also amember of Order of Omega, a Greek honor society. Upongraduation, Dulce hopes to become a Homicide Detective for theFederal Bureau of Investigation.

shesays "Greek Life has been a great source of motivation for me and as they pushforward on their journey through college and a successful career, it is imperative they take advantage of various programs and opportunities which in return willhelp mold them for the dream they often visualize."

Sam Puente hails from Houston, Texas and transferred to SamHouston in the fall of 2015. As of Spring 2015, Sam is a fully initiatedbrother of Phi Gamma Delta, commonly known as FIJI. Sincebecoming a member, he has served as Intramural Chair and wasrecently elected to become the Athletic Chair of the InterfratenityCouncil, which is the governing body for all of the fraternities hereon campus. Sam also works as a tour guide for the Visitor Centerwhere he gladly shows perspective students and parents aroundthe campus.

Incoming freshmen who have yet to decide whether or not a Greekorganization is for them, Sam offers the advice that you shouldseek out a fraternity or sorority that will enhance their college, notdeter it. "Joining FIJI was the best decision I've made in collegethus far. FIJI has helped me reach my full potential as a man and aleader."

"Great People Make Great Organziations"Guest Speaker, Tom Healy, on the importance of Recruiting the "Right Guy"

Tom Healy is the CEO & ManagingPartner of LaunchPoint, a consultingfirm dedicated to helping fraternitiesand sororities thrive across thenation. Having delivered over 500presentations, the focus of Tom'smessage is for organizations to recruitand then maintain the best possiblemembers that they can find.

The speech that Mr.Healy delivers thisfall to the members ofSam Houston State'sGreek Life will centeraround the art ofrecruitment. Tom firmlybelieves that the task ofsearching for newmembers for eachsorority or fraternityshould not depend solelyon just a few active members; instead,the entire chapter should be involved in"replacing themselves". Furthermore,Tom has devised a system in which Greek organizations will no longer justbe searching for numbers to fill the bedsof their respective houses, but will nowbe looking for the best candidatespossible. Upon completion of hispresentation, Tom hopes for thestudents to have a

standardized criteria for selecting newmembers, methods to drive great potentialnew members to join their chapter andcommunity, and a recruitment system that willengage all members of the chapter.

Tom will be at Sam Houston State onNovember 10th at 4:15PM in the LSC Ballroom.While his message is geared towards members

of Greek Life, it will opento all SHSU students. Atthe conclusion of hisprogram, Tom will bemore than happy tospeak with any studentor student-groups whohave any furtherquestions or concerns.

Outside of speaking tosororities andfraternities, Tom offers

coaching and consulting services to a numberof Fortune 500 companies, the US Navy, andany other companies looking to recruit andretain top-notch talent. To date, he hasdelivered over 500 presentations in more than30 different states. Originally from Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania, Tom now resides in Scottsdale,Arizona where he spends his free time golfing,boxing, hiking, and traveling.
