A Message from the President, Mr Don Lethbridge

On behalf of the Taroom Show Society, competitors and exhibitors, I would like to thank all sponsors and trophy donors of the 2018 show. Without your support we could not run such a successful and well supported show. Some sponsors have been contributing to the show for over 10 years, whist some are joining us for the first time this year. We thank-you for your donation no matter how big or

small. For 113 years our show has been delivering positive so-cial and economic impacts to our community. We hope that this continues for years to come. Thank you all.

The Taroom Showgrounds is classified as a CATTLE TICK FREE ZONE.

For all low risk carriers (Camelids, Equines, goats and sheep) the requirement is: · All stock are to complete a manual inspection (this can be completed by any competent person) before entering the free zone · Be accompanied with a movement record (new term for waybill). They do not require a biosecurity certificate issued by an accredited certifier. Please see link for manual inspection procedure: https://www.daf.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0020/504317/Procedure-manual-inspection-low-risk-cattle-tick-carriers.pdf For high risk carriers (bison, buffalo, cattle, and deer) from infested zone the requirement is: · A manual inspection and return to the origin within 96hrs (4days) from the date of inspection and not to unloaded at any other place (e.g. inspection Thursday, the animals must return to origin by Monday); OR · A manual inspection and chemical treatment For high risk carriers (bison, buffalo, cattle, and deer) from infested land (this is cattle tick infested property in the free zone) the requirement is: · A manual inspection and chemical treatment All high risk carrier movements from infested zone or land to tick free zone require a biosecurity certificate issued by an accredited certifier. All movements must be accompanied by a movement record. All stock movements require a movement record and a copy must be kept by the event holder for two years. Taroom Show is run under Queensland Chamber of Agricultural Societies Inc. Rules, as can be found at the Secretary’s Office.

Clause 9 is noted as follows……. “Any protest by an Exhibitor must be lodged in writing with the

Committee Person or Steward in charge of any section within 30 minutes of the completion of the event together with a fee as

determined by the Committee of this Society. The fee will be forfeited if the protest is considered to be frivolous or vexatious. The protest shall

be heard according to the rules of the natural justice by a Dispute Committee of three appointed by the President of this Show and the

decision of the Disputes Committee shall be final……” Determined Fee of Taroom Show Society - $50.00

GENERAL CONDITIONS REGARDING THE PAVILION INDUSTRIES

& THE FARM and PRODUCE SECTIONS

In all cases the competitor must be an amateur. Entry closing date is the date most suitable for the entries to be received by, as in all cases, tickets have to be prepared and books written up. Entry fee in all sections will be $0.50 unless otherwise stated. Prize money will be First $3, Second $2 in all sections, unless otherwise stated. Where a trophy is donated for first prize, second prize money only. This section has been compiled early to assist you with your show entries and the association would be grateful if you would comply by having your entries in EARLY. All work MUST be new not previously laundered. Articles may be suitably mounted to enable judges to inspect reverse side of work In all cases, presentation of an article WILL be considered by the judges. Bottles polished with clean lids are more attractive. Soiled work in any section MAY be disqualified. All exhibits that have won first prize in a Taroom show are not permissible and, if recognised, will be DISQUALIFIED. Purchased items will not be allowed as a competitive entry. If an entry is not worthy of an award no prize will be given. Entries may be moved to a more suitable class at the discretion of the chief steward. ALL CARE IS TAKEN OF ENTRIES BUT NO RESPONSIBILITY IS ACCEPTED. NOMINATIONS CLOSE AT 5PM ON SUNDAY, 6th May, 2018 with the Secretary of this section, who would appreciate it if nominations were in as early as possible. NO NOMINATIONS WILL BE TAKEN IN THE PAVILION ON MONDAY, MAY 6th, 2018. THIS RULE WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED. All exhibits to be in the pavilion, and in the hands of the stewards before 8.00 am on MONDAY, 6th MAY to be prepared for judging. Fine Arts Must be in before 8am to be hung for judging at 9am. Exhibits will be accepted in the pavilion from 3pm SUNDAY, 5th MAY as well as MONDAY, 6th MAY BEFORE 8am. All exhibits must remain in the pavilion until 3.30pm on TUESDAY, 7th MAY 2018. Exhibitors MUST REPORT to Stewards before removing their articles. Entry fee in all classes, unless otherwise stated is $0.50. POINTS will be allocated in the following manner – First place = 2 points, Second place = 1 point. A Champion exhibit will be chosen from overall exhibits. Pavilions will remain open until 7pm Monday night.

THIS SECTION IS TO ENCOURAGE CHILDREN TO SHOW THEIR SKILLS THEREFORE ALL ENTRIES MUST BE THEIR OWN WORK

JUVENILE SECTION WILL CONSIST OF TWO GROUPS IN EACH SECTION AND THOSE WILL BE:

JUNIOR – 12 years and under; SENIOR -13 years to 17 years AGE MUST BE STATED ON ENTRY FORMS. Entry fee $0.50. First prize $3, unless otherwise stated. Second prize $2. This section must not be confused with schoolwork. It is included to give the Juveniles a place of their own. Mrs Val Wilson Trophy, for most points gained in juvenile section. JUVENILE COOKERY

Mrs Deidre Jounquay Trophy, for junior novelty cake. Mrs Jessica Oliver Trophy, for best marble cake, junior & senior Fenwin Pastoral Trophies, for best Anzac biscuits—senior and best jam drops—junior A FEATURE CAKE MUST BE COOKED TO THE FOLLOWING RECIPE.

MARBLE CAKE: Ingredients: 185g sugar, 1 ½ cups SR flour, 1/2 cup milk, few drops vanilla essence, 125g butter, 2 eggs, 2 tsp. cocoa, hot water, pinch salt. Method Place all ingredients, except cocoa and water, into a small mixing bowl and mix at low speed until combined. Then beat on high for 4 minutes. Divide mixture into three, colour one pink, one chocolate (by combining cocoa and water and mixing to form a paste) and leave one white. Line the bottom of a 20cm round tin. Place mixture in alternate spoonfulls and run a knife through mixture to give a marbled effect. Bake in a 190 oven for 25 to 40 minutes or until cooked. When cool, ice on top with pale pink icing.

Entries to be delivered to Show Pavilion on WEDNESDAY 2nd May 2018 between 3pm and 5pm. Distance Education entries to Show Office before Wednesday 2nd May, 2018. If there is insufficient room to display all entries, the 10 best entries in each catego-ry will be displayed. Merit Cards will be awarded at the discretion of the judge. NB: Art work for all classes is to be on paper no more than 40 cm x 30 cm CREATIVE WRITING: On any genre.
