ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

Even if we are unable to physically receive Holy Communion at times

we can enter into spiritual Communion with the Lord

by praying:

My Jesus, I believe that You are truly

present in the Most Blessed Sacrament.

I love You above all things, and I desire to possess You within my soul. I am sorry for

ever having offended you.

Since I am unable now to receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into

my heart.

I embrace You as being already there, and unite myself wholly to You.

Never, never permit me to be separated

from You. Amen.

Don’t forget Martha’s Pantry & Closet! There is great need for food & clean, gently used clothing. Cash donations always welcomed. Please bring your dona-tions to St. Martha any Wednes-day morning from 9am - Noon or drop them at mass on the week-ends.

Fr. Dennis’ Homily Dear Friends and Fellow Parishioners: I remember what the day AFTER Christmas used to be like for me as a child. I was already beginning to count down the days until the NEXT Christmas. The day before was so exciting that I couldn’t believe I could bear waiting another 364 days to experience a similar delight again. The people of Israel waited in anticipation of a king who would set everything right for them. This is not unlike our anticipation for a long-awaited event or encounter. We seek to fulfill a need of some sort: information, entertainment, advancement, fulfillment, love, approval, or some-thing similar. The Israelites needed someone who would guide them and offer them a secure fu-ture. They looked to the wrong source for their fulfillment. They looked to humans, rather than to God, the only source of true fulfillment. In the second reading, Paul tells us that the Mighty One we seek will come. He is far more prestigious, powerful, and enlightening than any human encounter we may experience. His com-ing, however, will be different from what the Israelites – or we – had imagined. He will come in glory at the end of time for the final judgement. We must prepare for this spiritually so that we will be able to accompany Him into eternity. Every year, on this first Sunday of Advent, the universal Church begins a new liturgical year. We examine, once again and still, the fullness of the Paschal Mys- tery in all its facets. The Paschal Mystery refers to Christ’s passion, death, resurrection, and glorious Ascension – the means by which He accomplished our salvation. But our liturgical year is so much more than an annual history lesson on the life of Christ. It is an opportunity to immerse ourselves into all that Jesus did and taught, and to relate it to our own redemption – here and now in 2021. The Paschal Mystery is at the heart of every liturgy – we celebrate what God has already done for us and we anticipate the fullness of the Kingdom to come. It is in the Lord’s Prayer, as we say, “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done.” It is in the creed as we profess, “He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead.” Advent reminds us of Christ’s second coming. In a way, it is like a dress rehearsal for the final act. In today’s Gospel Jesus tells us what his second coming will be like so that we can recog-nize it when it happens. He uses images from the Old Testament. Although they can be frighten-ing, we are assured that firm faith in God will be our final protection. We are called to live our faith courageously, prepare wisely, and maintain a sense of joyful anticipation for his coming. -Fr. Dennis

Silent vigil prayer for the unborn Tues., Nov 30, 6-8 pm Come pray for the unborn! Please drop in anytime to the Small Church on the eve of Tues, November 30 from 6 to 8 PM. Stay as long or as short as you like. The following day, December 1, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the Dobbs Case. In the Dobbs case, the Supreme Court will decide the constitutionality of a 2018 state law that bans most abortions after 15 weeks of gestation in Mississippi. Their ruling on Dobbs could amount to a ruling on the constitutionality of Roe v. Wade itself. We are calling on Catholics everywhere to spend time in silent mediation and prayer. Please bring the intentions of the pro-life movement — and of our precious unborn brothers and sisters — before the Lord!

PRAYER OF THE WEEK First Sunday of Advent Grant your faithful, we pray, almighty God, the resolve to run forth to meet your Christ with righteous deeds at his coming, so that, gathered at his right hand, they may be worthy to possess the heavenly Kingdom. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen
