Entrance Antiphon: cf. Psalm 33:5-6 The merciful love the Lord fills the earth; by the word of the Lord the heavens were made, alleluia.

First Reading - Acts 13:14, 43-52 Paul and Barnabas continued on from Perga and reached Antioch in Pisidia. On the sabbath they entered the synagogue and took their seats. Many Jews and worshipers who were converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who spoke to them and urged them to remain faithful to the grace of God. On the following sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord. When the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and with violent abuse contradicted what Paul said. Both Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, “It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first, but since you reject it and condemn yourselves as unworthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles. For so the Lord has commanded us, I have made you a light to the Gentiles, that you may be an instrument of salvation to the ends of the earth.” The Gentiles were delighted when they heard this and glorified the word of the Lord. All who were destined for eternal life came to believe, and the word of the Lord continued to spread through the whole region. The Jews, however, incited the women of prominence who were worshipers and the leading men of the city, stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their territory. So they shook the dust from their feet in protest against them, and went to Iconium. The disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.

Responsorial Psalm - Ps 100:1-2, 3, 5

R (3c) We are his people, the sheep of his flock. or: R Alleluia. Sing joyfully to the LORD, all you lands; serve the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful song. R We are his people, the sheep of his flock. or: R Alleluia. Know that the LORD is God; he made us, his we are; his people, the flock he tends. R We are his people, the sheep of his flock. or: R Alleluia. The LORD is good: his kindness endures forever, and his faithfulness, to all generations. R We are his people, the sheep of his flock. or: R Alleluia.

Readings for Sunday, May 8 Fourth Sunday of Easter

Second Reading - Rev 7:9, 14b-17 I, John, had a vision of a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation, race, people, and tongue. They stood before the throne and before the Lamb, wearing white robes and holding palm branches in their hands. Then one of the elders said to me, “These are the ones who have survived the time of great distress; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. “For this reason they stand before God’s throne and worship him day and night in his temple. The one who sits on the throne will shelter them. They will not hunger or thirst anymore, nor will the sun or any heat strike them. For the Lamb who is in the center of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to springs of life-giving water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” Alleluia Jn 10:14 R. Alleluia, alleluia. I am the good shepherd, says the Lord; I know my sheep, and mine know me. R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel - Jn 10:27-30 Jesus said: “My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one can take them out of the Father’s hand. The Father and I are one.”

Profession of Faith I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the Only begotten Son of God, born of the Father, before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, At the words that follow, up to and including “and became man,” all bow. And by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered, died, and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the Prophets. I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrec-tion of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Communion Antiphon - Lk 24:35 The Good Shepherd has risen, who laid down his life for his sheep and willingly died for his flock alleluia.

Song Lyrics: Fourth Sunday of Easter 1.) Bread of Angels 1. Bread of angels, we receive you; with us now abide. Precious Jesus, manna of ages, with us now reside. Panis angélicus fit panis hóminum, Dat panis cáelicus figúris términum. 2. Cup of Mercy overflowing, fill us with your grace; wine of passion, O Son begotten, we flee to your embrace. O res mirábilis mandúcat Dóminum, Pauper, Pauper, servus, et húmilis. 3. Word incarnate, dwell within us; pierce our hardened hearts. Tender Jesus, Love so gentle, never let us part. Te, trina Déitas únaque, póscimus, Sic nos tu vísita, sicut te cólimus. 4. Though unworthy, we receive you, sacrament divine. Bread of angels, accept our praises, let your glory shine! Per tuas sémitas duc nos quo téndimus, lucem, Ad lucem quam inhábitas.

English text, Curtis Stephan. Latin text, Panis angelicus by St. Thomas Aquinas, 1227–1274. Music and English text © 2002, Curtis Stephan. Published by OCP. All rights reserved. 2.) Bread of Life Refrain: Bread of life, hope of the world, Jesus Christ, our brother: feed us now, give us life, lead us to one another. 1. As we proclaim your death, as we recall your life, we remember your promise, to return again. 2. The bread we break and share was scattered once as grain: just as now it is gathered, make your people one. 3. We eat this living bread, we drink this saving cup: sign of hope in our broken world, source of lasting love. 4. Hold us in unity, in love for all to see; that the world may believe in you, God of all who live. 5. You are the bread of peace, you are the wine of joy, broken now for your people, poured in endless love.

Death and life contended in dreadful strife; Death did not hold him, immortal his life. Refrain: Alleluia, his triumph we sing! Christ is arisen, the Victor, the King! 2. Mary, speak, confessing what you have seen. “Christ’s tomb lies empty where once he had been; Angels bright, confirming; shroud laid aside; He goes to Galilee, he lives though he died.” 3. Christians, sing his glory with ev’ry breath; Sing of his kingdom, victorious o’er death! Jesus, grant us mercy: new life from heav’n! Christ ever reigns! Alleluia! Amen!

Text: 64 10 D with refrain; based on the Sequence for Easter (Victimae paschali laudes). Music: RISEN KING. Text and music: Randall DeBruyn, © 1993, OCP. All rights reserved.

4.) Hail Mary, Gentle Woman Introduction: Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women and blest is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of death. Amen. Refrain: Gentle woman, quiet light, morning star, so strong and bright, gentle Mother, peaceful dove, teach us wisdom; teach us love. 1. You were chosen by the Father; you were chosen for the Son. You were chosen from all women and for woman, shining one. 2. Blessed are you among women, blest in turn all women, too. Blessed they with peaceful spirits. Blessed they with gentle hearts.

5.) Immaculate Mary 1. Immaculate Mary, your praises we sing. You reign now in heaven with Jesus our King. Refrain: Ave, Ave, Ave, Maria! Ave, Ave, Maria! 2. In heaven the blessed your glory proclaim; On earth we your children invoke your fair name. 3. We pray for our Mother, the Church upon earth, And bless, Holy Mary, the land of our birth.

6.) Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee 1. Joyful, joyful, we adore thee, God of glory, Lord of love; Hearts unfold like flow’rs before thee, Op’ning to the sun above. Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; Drive the dark of doubt away; Giver of immortal gladness, Fill us with the light of day. 2. All thy works with joy surround thee, Earth and heav’n reflect thy rays, Stars and angels sing around thee, Center of unbroken praise; Field and forest, vale and mountain, Flow’ry meadow, flashing sea, Chanting bird and flowing fountain, Call us to rejoice in thee. 3. Thou art giving and forgiving, Ever blessing, ever blest, Well-spring of the joy of living, Ocean depth of happy rest! Thou our Father, Christ our brother, All who live in love are thine; Teach us how to love each other, Lift us to the joy divine. 4. Mortals, join the mighty chorus Which the morning stars began; Love divine is reigning o’er us, Binding all within its span. Ever singing, march we onward, Victors in the midst of strife; Joyful music leads us sun-ward, In the triumph song of life.

Text: 87 87 D; Henry van Dyke, 1852–1933, alt. Music: Ludwig van Beethoven, 1770–1827; adapt. by Edward Hodges, 1796–1867.

7.) Let Heaven Rejoice Refrain: Let heaven rejoice and earth be glad; let all creation sing. Let children proclaim through every land: “Hosanna to our King.” 1. Sound the trumpet into the night; the day of the Lord is near. Wake your people, lift your voice, proclaim it to the world. 2. Rise in splendor; shake off your sleep; put on your robes of joy. And in the morning you shall see the glory of the Lord. 3. Raise your voices, be not afraid. Proclaim it in every land. Christ has died, but he has risen; he will come again. 4. Sing a new song unto the Lord, whose labor has led us to life. With grateful hearts and joyful dancing, play before the Lord.

8.) Like A Shepherd Refrain: Like a shepherd he feeds his flock and gathers the lambs in his arms, holding them carefully close to his heart, leading them home. 1. Say to the cities of Judah: Prepare the way of the Lord. Go to the mountaintop, lift your voice: Jerusalem, here is your God. 2. I myself will shepherd them, for others have led them astray. The lost I will rescue and heal their wounds and pasture them, giving them rest. 3. Come unto me if you are heavily burdened, and take my yoke upon your shoulders. I will give you rest.

Text: Based on Isaiah 40:9ff; Ezekiel 34:11ff; Matthew 11:28ff. Text and music © 1976, Robert J. Dufford, SJ, and OCP. All rights reserved.

9.) Morning Has Broken 1. Morning has broken Like the first morning, Black bird has spoken Like the first bird. Praise for the singing! Praise for the morning! Praise for them, springing Fresh from the Word! 2. Sweet the rain’s new fall, Sunlit from heaven, Like the first dew fall On the first grass. Praise for the sweetness Of the wet garden, Sprung in completeness Where his feet pass. 3. Mine is the sunlight! Mine is the morning Born of the one light Eden saw play! Praise with elation, Praise ev’ry morning, God’s recreation Of the new day!

Text: 55 54D; Eleanor Farjeon, 1881-1965, ©1957, Eleanor Farjeon. All rights reserved. Reprinted by permission of Harold Ober Assoc., Inc. Music: Trad. Gaelic melody. 10.) On This Day, O Beautiful Mother Refrain: On this day, O beautiful Mother, On this day we give thee our love. Near thee, Madonna, fondly we hover, Trusting thy gentle care to prove. 1. On this day we ask to share, Dearest Mother, thy sweet care; Aid us ere our feet astray Wander from thy guiding way. 2. Queen of angels, deign to hear Lisping children’s humble pray’r; Young hearts gain, O Virgin pure, Sweetly to thyself allure.

Text: 77 77 with refrain; Rohr's Favorite Catholic Melodies, 1857. Music: Louis Lambillotte, SJ, 1796–1855.

Song Lyrics: Fourth Sunday of Easter

Eucharistic Adoration Eucharistic Adoration every Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Musical Adoration will be every third Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

Sign-Ups For Eucharistic Adoration Eucharistic Adoration is a time when the Eucharist is exposed in a Monstrance and placed on the altar for all to worship. St. Paul's has Eucharistic Adoration on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. It is important that we have at least 2 Adorers at all times, not leaving the Eucharist alone. If you are coming to Adoration and are not signing the sign-up sheet, please sign in with your name and e-mail address or phone number. Signing the attendance sheet will not commit you to anything. This information is important so that we can notify you of any changes in the schedule due to funerals, weather, etc. If you have questions, please contact Theresa Pearson at 636-225-8608 or [email protected]. Jesus is waiting for YOU. Will you answer Him?

11.) River of Glory Refrain: River of glory, springs of our birth, flood of God’s riches poured on the earth. We are born from the darkness and clothed in the light! We are bathed in the glory of God! 1. Fountain of mercy, grace flowing free, streams of salvation, spilling with love from a tree! 2. Here there is haven, healing and health, joy for the ask-ing, love in abundance of wealth! 3. Bread for our journey God will provide. Hope for all ages, Jesus, companion and guide! 4. Darkness is banished, night turned away. Christ is our sunlight, lifting and leading our way!

© 1991, OCP. All rights reserved. 12.) Shepherd Me O God Shepherd me, O God, beyond my wants, beyond my fears, from death into life. 1. God is my shepherd, so nothing shall I want, I rest in the meadows of faithfulness and love, I walk by the quiet waters of peace. Shepherd me, O God... 2. Gently you raise me and heal my weary soul, you lead me by pathways of righteousness and truth, my spirit shall sing the music of your name. Shepherd me, O God... 3. Though I should wander the valley of death, I fear no evil, for you are at my side, your rod and your staff, my comfort and my hope. Shepherd me, O God... 4. You have set me a banquet of love in the face of hatred, crowning me with love beyond my pow'r to hold. Shepherd me, O God... 5. Surely your kindness and mercy follow me all the days of my life; I will dwell in the house of my God for evermore. Shepherd me, O God…

Annual Catholic Appeal Today is our third Annual Catholic Appeal Sunday. In today’s first reading, Paul pro-claims that we are “a light to the Gentiles” and “an instrument of salvation to the ends of the earth.” The Appeal helps us to be that light to the world, helping our brothers and sisters in need and sharing Christ’s love with all. We are getting ready to launch the

Appeal follow-up efforts in our parish. Please help our volunteers by making your pledge in the Church vestibule today or Scan The QR Code To Give, Text To Give: “ACA” to 243725, or Give Online: aca.archstl.org Please call the parish office if you have any questions.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul Every day you help families pull through hard times...Like the Cromwell’s who delivered premature twins. After weeks in the NICU, one of the babies continued with a severe medical disorder. Mounting medical expenses and time away from work, the Cromwell couple needed help. Your gifts to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul helped get them through a financial hump and because of your kindness they are getting back on their feet. “We are extremely grateful for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul,” says Mrs. Cromwell.

If you’ve been blessed with the ability to give a helping hand to another neighbor in need today, please consider a gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul by donating through the envelope in your monthly packet or online.

Your gift will help neighbors facing some of the toughest times of their lives. God bless you for doing what you can for them by giving today!
