for Fallen now that chris cole has moved to DC

footwear. Lightening fast dennis Busenitz just

got that much faster after joining up with Bones

Swiss Bearings.

The guys at Baker Boys distribution are busy

filming for Deathwish Skateboards new video

along with a full length “chicken Bone nowi-

son” for Shake Junt. Fallen is filming for their

upcoming video “the road less traveled.”

Until these new videos come out, get stoked

on Manny Santiago’s 6 minute part “9-10-11”

which has enough grind flip-outs to keep you

inspired.

And the highlight of the surfing world tour,

hAwAii is surfing.Outside the skaters realm, it is

likely that skateboarding in Hawaiiwill always take a back seat to

surfing. That said, skateboardingis huge here on Oahu. With 80

degree temperatures year round, theonly weather that will keep you off

your board are strong trade winds and rain, which usually only last a couple

hours and things will dry off muchfaster. Most young surfers skate and not

all skaters surf. With eight skateparksscattered around the island, miles of

old drainage ditches, and plenty ofrun-down industrial properties, there is

no shortage of concrete and metal.Occasionally you’ll hear whispers of an

abandoned home with an emptypool there, or a new indoor ramp

here, but that local knowledge is guarded tightly.

surf shops are plentiful and most sell skate/longboards and other skate gear. There is no trouble getting a setup. The shop to go to, that is the skaters skate shop, is APB. Located in Chinatown, in downtown Honolulu, APB is a stone throw away from A’ala Skatepark, and is a second home or an employer to some the best riders on the island. APB is as much of a part of the local skate scene as the skateparks themselves - helping put on skate jams, contests, organizing movie premiers, etc..

Skaters on Oahu are a tight knit com-munity and yet are extremely welcom-

ing at the same time. There is the same mutual respect among skate-boarders here that you’ll find most anywhere else and even more so. As it is well known with surfing, skating anywhere on the islands with a bad attitude and poor manners is in no way welcomed and will not be toler-ated. Hawaiians and Hawaii people always manage to have more fun at everything they do, be it in the water on a surfboard, or at the skatepark with friends. If you are looking to visit, bring your board, show up to the park smiling politely, and introduce your-self. Have fun, show some Aloha at-titude, and you will fit right in.
