order to build up the Kingdom of God. The labor of this effort must address in deed

more than in word the needs of our people.

Reflection: Our reading from the book of

Genesis recalls the journey of Abram and

Sarah to a land that God promised them. They

trusted in God’s promise, leaving behind their

family, friends and homeland. Through their

harsh journey, they sought a better future.

Their God is a God of promises, asking them

to listen and to be guided by God. Do I trust

God’s direction in my life?

Psalm 33

Lord, let your mercy be on us,

as we place our trust in you.

Reading II

Timothy 1: 8b-10

God has saved us and called us to be holy.

Reflection: Timothy reminds the believers that

God, who has called us into holiness, will

strengthen us with His life. God offers us His

life. We who believe are blessed by God’s

spirit in us. Does the grace of God in me

destroy death and restore life in me, in others

and the world I know?

Gospel

Matthew 17: 1-9

Jesus’ face shone like the sun.

Reflection: This passage from Matthew’s

gospel is another journey on the way to

Jerusalem. The transfiguration of Jesus reveals

to the disciples the place of the law and the

prophets in their lives. This vision of Jesus

offers them strength. How is Jesus being

revealed to me as He guides me on my Lenten

journey?

Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, sanctify me.

Body of Christ, save me.

Blood of Christ, inebriate me.

Water from the side of Christ, wash me.

Passion of Christ, strengthen me.

O good Jesus, hear me.

Within your wounds, hide me.

Permit me not to be separated from you.

From the wicked enemy defend me.

At the hour of my death call me,

bid me come to your side, that with your

saints I may praise you forever and ever.

Amen

Bible Study will be on Tuesday, March 4th at

6 pm in the Rectory Library. We are reading

PASTOR’S CORNER

Lent has begun. On Ash Wednesday, we

joined Catholics around the world to begin

our Lenten journey together by the marking

of ashes. Again this week, there is a list of

some of the Lenten events and practices of

our neighboring parishes in our Deanery.

The Parish Pastoral Council meets today

after Mass. They will be discussing the

results of the PPC Recommendation

results for our future leaders on the

Council, as well as the information

gained from the completed parish

surveys. The Council will present those

results at the Special Assembly on

March 15th. The Future of our Parishes

Task Force requested new information

from the parishes in the North City

Deanery. That data will also be shared

then.

Both Archbishop Carlson and Pope

Francis offered Lenten reflections to all

Catholics. You will find their letters on

the Lenten bulletin board. There are a

few copies of their letters with the Rice

Bowls on the back table. Please feel

free to help yourself to one.

We live this Lenten Season by deepening

in prayer, encouraging fasting and

abstinence, and engaging in almsgiving

and good deeds. May our Lenten

journey help us to respond generously to

the love of Jesus.

2020. This includes those new to service and those

who are currently in service. For those who have

already attended a Protecting God’s Children

workshop, your previous training date will transfer to

this new system.

In addition to attending a live Protecting God’s

Children workshop, all clergy, volunteers, and

employees will register for an updated background

screening, view two new online training modules on

abuse reporting and the Code of Ethical Conduct, and

agree to the updated Code of Ethical Conduct.

Please go to www.preventandprotectstl.org to

register and watch the video. Contact Peg Murphy,

Child Safety Coordinator, with any questions or for

further assistance.

North City Deanery Speaker Series presents THE

SPHERE OF FEAR on Thursday, March 12, 2020,

6 pm - 8 pm, at SLUH Chapel, 4970 Oakland, St.

Louis, MO 63110. Mrs. Danielle Harrison, Director of

Mission Integration at Visitation Academy will speak.

MEMO FROM ARCHDIOCESE OF ST. LOUIS

In light of the increase in cases of colds and the flu, many questions have been asked on how we can protect

parishioners when they gather for Mass.

To help our parishioners, please be aware:

Measures are being taken at this time to lessen the spread of colds, flu, and other contagious illnesses;

We take extra-precautionary action to sanitize all sacred vessels after all Masses (soap and hot water),

because germs may survive on surfaces. You may prefer not to receive Holy Communion from the cup

at this time;

We encourage good hygiene with hand sanitizer lotion in public areas and after the Kiss of Peace, and

proper cough and sneeze etiquette. It is especially important for extraordinary ministers of Holy

Communion to implement these measures.

Sowing Seeds—A Gathering To Cultivate Catholic

Justice Discipleship, on Saturday, March 14, 2020,

by Fr. Fred Kammer, SJ, J.D., Director of the

Jesuit Social Research Institute. Register by Friday,
