St. John’s Shelter Thanksgiving MealSt. Louis is again blessed to prepare and serve the Thanksgiving Day dinner for the people at St John's Homeless Shelter. If you are interested in participating in this meal, there will be a sign up sheet, with needed food/supplies and volunteer opportunities, posted near the Scrip room.
Donations will be welcomed to help with the cost of the main meal. Items that do not need heating can be brought to the kitchen in the Gathering Area (in Church) at the Thanksgiving Day Mass. Items that will be served hot must be delivered to the Gathering Area between 3:45 and 4:15 PM.
Thank you for sharing your generosity on Thanksgiving for the guests of St. John's. Questions: call Carol Van de Ven at 825-7603 .
All Parishioners: Please consider.... We are in need of liturgical ministers for all of our roles, however we are particularly in need of ushers and communion distributors for both the 4 PM and 10 AM Masses as well as altar servers for the 4 PM Mass. If interested please contact either Nancy Christoff at 866-9750 or Pat R.
Little Blue Books for AdventThe Little Blue Books are at both entrances of church. Please take one to help you through the Advent season.
Disaster Relief GivingA total of $1,504 was collected to help the victims of thehurricanes. Thank you for your generosity!
Reverse Collection Next WeekendWe will have a reverse collection next weekend for food items for the Hope Goes Home for Kids program for the Luxemburg-Casco schools.
Project Warm Them Up Once again we will be providing blankets for people in the community to keep them warm this winter. There are many ways you can help. Buy two yards of fleece fabric and make a blanket, in the next couple of weeks look for the material in the back of the Gathering Area, take it home, make it and bring it back to church, or a donation on money is always accepted as well. Thank you for your willingness to help with the ministry of keeping people warm this winter. Any questions contact Denise Marach at (920) 866-9923.
Christmas Giving ProgramLet’s make a difference this Christmas Season! The Christmas Giving Program will be distributing names of those participating in the program after 4 PM Mass on Saturday, November 17th and after both Masses on Sunday, November 18th. Wrapped gifts should be brought back to church by Sunday, December 2. Feel free to call me to make arrangements to return gifts, if necessary.
Distribution will take place on Saturday, December 15 at the Parish Center from 10 AM to noon. Anyone wishing to help with distribution on that day, we will start at 7 AM. As always, we appreciate the love and support that goes into making this program so successful. Thank you! Merry Christmas!
Julie Massart Brenneke (920) 362-4744
People of God,
LaVerne Bredael, wife of James Bredael, died on October 31st. There will be a visitation here at St. Louis Parish next Saturday, November 17th followed by Mass and lunch in the Parish Center. Please keep the Bredael family in your prayers.
This past Friday, November 9th, the church celebrated the feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica. Most Catholics think of St. Peter's as the pope's main church, but they are wrong. St. John Lateran is the pope's church, the cathedral of the Diocese of Rome where the Bishop of Rome presides. The first basilica on the site was built in the fourth century when Constantine donated land he had received from the wealthy Lateran family. Pope Innocent X commissioned the present structure in 1646. Unlike the commemorations of other Roman churches, this anniversary is a feast. The dedication of a church is a feast for all its parishioners. In a sense, St. John Lateran is the parish church of all Catholics, because it is the pope's cathedral. This church is the spiritual home of the people who are the Church.
Blessings, Pat
