Dear Friends,

Happy July 4th in advance! This Saturday our nation will celebrate Independence Day. Though we call it “Independence Day” we gratefully acknowledge our DEPENDENCE on God who created us and provided for us by giving us the privilege to live in the United States of America. In the past six months the pandemic has challenged us as a nation as we have suffered together and worked together to confront this crisis. At all times, but especially in the current times, we ask God to shed His grace on this country.

No nation is perfect, composed as it is of mere human beings. Recent events, such as the lack of charity that we see in politics, the various acts of injustice across our nation, and the racial tensions and prejudice remind us of the need to pray earnestly for our nation.

So begin July 4th the right way by attending the morning Mass at 8:45am. In that Mass we will pray for peace in our nation and give thanks for all those who daily protect us with their very lives by serving in the Armed Forces, in law enforcement, and as First Responders. After Mass I invited you to join me in praying the “Saint Louis Parish Patriotic Rosary.” May God bless the USA!

Your Pastor, Father O'Hare

PASTOR’S REFLECTION

Prayer for the Homebound

Lord, you have a special love for those who are weak, infirm, and dependent. Bless the homebound parishioners of our parish as they carry their daily crosses. May our prayers bring them strength and consolation, and the

Sacraments sanctify and inspire them. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

This week we pray especially for the following homebound parishioners: Maria Panameno, Renato Panameno, Chris Schreiner, Gerry Wagner, Donald Weber, and Joseph Zable.

Well Done, WorkCampers!! Congratulations to the 20 teens and 12 adult volunteers who participated in the parish-based version of WorkCamp this past week! You made a real difference in people’s

lives and grew in faith as you served together! Photos show teens doing construction work and preparing meals for the hungry. Works of charity performed included: Replaced a backyard deck for a family in need; built 2 picnic tables for Bishop Ireton; cleaned up a yard with overgrown landscaping; prepared and distributed over 800 meals to recipients at Our Lady Queen of Peace Pantry; prepared and delivered 80 meals to Silverado Memory Care Facility. A special word of thanks to Tom Canning (WC stakeholder), Andrew Lane (DYM), and Fr. Andrew!

Bilingual parishioners can help the St. Vincent de Paul Society assist more families within our community.

The St. Louis Society of St. Vincent de Paul (StVdeP) needs bilingual members who can assist with requests from our Spanish-speaking neighbors. Please consider becoming a member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at St. Louis, which provides direct assistance to local families who are struggling to afford food, rent or utilities. For more information about volunteering, contact Keith Snider, [email protected]; or Robin Bachman at [email protected].

May God Bless You!

SAINT LOUIS PARISH PATRIOTIC ROSARY

“It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits,

and humbly to implore his protection and favor.” (George Washington)

1st Glorious Mystery: The Resurrection. On the third day he rose again. We pray this mystery for our President and the following States (Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine)

My country, ’tis of thee, Sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrims’ pride, From every mountain side, let freedom ring.

“Of those things that give me most consolation at the present moment, one is that I have always been attached

to the practice of devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary; that I have established it among the people under my care,

and placed my diocese under her protection.” (Archbishop John Carroll, first American bishop)

2nd Glorious Mystery: The Ascension. Before he ascended to the Father, Jesus told them, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.” We pray this mystery for the Members of our Supreme Court and for the following States (Wisconsin, IndianaIllinois, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland)

My native country thee, land of the noble free, thy name I love. I love thy rocks and reels, thy woods and template hills, My heart with rapture thrills, like that above.

“There is no evil to be faced that Christ does not face with us. There is no enemy that Christ has not already conquered.

There is no cross to bear that Christ has not already borne for us, and does not now bear with us.”

(Homily of Pope St. John Paul II; Oct 8, 1995, Baltimore)

3rd Glorious Mystery: The Descent of the Holy Spirit. After praying for nine days, the Holy Spirit came down upon Mary and the Apostles. We pray this mystery for the Members of Congress and the following States (Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, Georgia)

Let music swell the breeze, and ring from all the trees, sweet freedom’s song: Let mortal tongues awake, let all that breathe partake, Let rocks their silence break, the sound prolong.

“Our efforts must aim at restoring hope, righting wrongs, maintaining commitments,

and thus promoting the well-being of individuals and of peoples.” (Pope Francis; 2015 Address to US Congress)

4th Glorious Mystery: Mary’s Assumption. At the end of her earthly life the sinless Mary was assumed body and soul into Heaven. We pray this mystery for our Governor and for the following States (Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Minnesota)

Our father’s God, to thee, Author of liberty, to thee we pray. Long may our land be bright, with freedom’s holy light, Protect us by our might, Great God, our King.

“At the foot of the Cross, Jesus entrusted His beloved mother to all of us. Through her faith, perseverance and motherhood we have a Savior.” (Bishop Burbidge)

5th Glorious Mystery: the Coronation of Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth. We pray this mystery for the members of our Armed Forces and First Responders, and for the following States (Washington, Oregon, California, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, Utah, Alaska, Hawaii)

My country, ’tis of thee, Sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrims’ pride, From every mountain side, let freedom ring.

For all the Catholic parishes and parishioners in the United States we pray: “Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus; O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.”

Pray for us, Holy Mother of God,That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

We pray now for all of our Bishops and Priests: St. Michael the Archangel….

For the Intentions of our Holy Father: (Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be)

Concluding Hymn: “Immaculate Mary”
