The parable of the father and his sons is one of the most familiar of all of Jesus stories. The father in the parable is lavish in forgiveness and revels in the return of his young son, who was lost and now is found. The older son is also lost--lost in his refusal to forgive, lost in his failure to grasp his father ’s generous spirit. The Israelites spent many years lost in the desert, seeking the land of milk and honey, yet often failing to seek the God who delivered and fed them. We are sometimes lost as well. We lose sight of the Lord and the Lord ’s ways. God never loses sight of us, however. God waits, ready for us to come to our senses, ready to welcome us back with open arms. LOST It is hard to admit how easily we get lost. We lose our way in the rush of tasks, meetings, and activities and get out of the habit of daily prayer, Sunday Mass, and service. We get caught up in the pursuit of material wealth, power, social status, and worldly success. We may be dismissive of peo-ple whose perspectives are different from our own. We be-come selfish and self-centered. We are blind to the needs of others, concerned solely with ourselves, our family, our small social circles. We get off track and for a while do not even realize we are lost. Like the young son in the parable, something has to happen to bring us back to our senses. FOUND The young son hit bottom and made his way home. The Israelites learned to trust in and follow God and entered the Promised Land. We are found the moment we realize we are lost and begin our journey back to the Lord. Jesus not only shows us the way, Christ is our way home to God. Our homeward path is often an examination of conscience, by which we search our hearts and recognize our failings. We may need to make amends to those whom we have hurt; we might be called to a change of attitude or behavior. Are you lost? Now is the perfect time to open your mind and heart, and admit that you have lost your way. Lent is a season when we admit the ways that we are missing the mark and return to God. Often, we do so through the sacra-ment of Reconciliation, in which we confess our sins, are given penance, and accept Christ’ s warm embrace of for-giveness. Council 3855 of the Knights of Columbus invites all 8th grade students who are graduating in the spring of 2019, and has been accepted to any Catholic High School next year, to seek a pos-sible scholarship through our council. The Scholarship is a $500.00 per year- for four years of Catholic High School Edu-cation- for a total of $2,000.00.

The Scholarship is awarded by committee vote based on the following criteria:

Essay

Students may Print or Type the application form completely and correctly. An incomplete application will be rejected from consideration.

Students will need to secure copies of all 7th grade and first Se-mester 8th grade report cards and attached these to the back of the application form.

Students will write an essay incorporating the following theme. “What a Scholarship to a Catholic High School would mean to me.” This essay should be double-spaced typewritten or word-processed. Handwritten essays will be rejected. Essays should be no less 150 words and limited to one page. Essay must be stapled to the application behind the report card.

Students will need to Secure two letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors, coaches or school administrators who have evaluated them academically. Students will need to attach these letters to the application form, directly behind the essay.

Students will need a custodial parent or legal guardian sign the application. Students need not send anything more than what has been requested.

The deadline is Friday, May 3, 2019 for the Knights of Co-lumbus to receive ALL scholarship applications.

Winner(s) will either be notified by letter the first week of June or be announced at Graduation Exercises at the Paro-chial Schools. Winners and their families will be invited to our Father’s Day Breakfast June 16th 2019, at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Winner’s names will be reported to the Catholic Sun for publication. Copies of the Scholarship Appli-cation may be picked up at the Parish office.

Your Society of St. Vincent de Paul is overwhelmed by our parishioner's generosity for the 5th Sunday collection on March 21, 2019. Your continued sup-port makes it possible to serve people in need in our community. Since January 1, 2019 we have served 133 families (representing 585 people) with 177 food boxes and specific requests for utilities and other support. Lent is not just for "giving something up" but more important to "give something for the poor." You, our parishioners, have exemplified that "giving" and we thank you!

Possible Community Rummage Sale here at SLK, tenta-tively scheduled for April 6th from 7 am until 2 pm. Spac-es will be under the covered parking. The cost is $25 for a single space or $35 for a double. If you’re interested in decluttering your home, closet, gar-age, etc. this is an opportunity to sell your items. Please call the parish office to reserve a spot. All proceeds will go to the Church.

PERDIDO Es difícil admitir lo fácil que es perdernos. Perdemos nuestro camino por las prisas de hacer el trabajo, las reuniones y las actividades y nos salimos del hábito de la oración diaria, la Misa dominical y el servicio. Quedamos atrapados en seguir la riqueza material, el poder, la posición social y el éxito mundano. Podemos ser despectivos con personas cuyas perspectivas son diferentes a las nuestras. Nos volvemos egoístas y egocéntricos. Estamos ciegos a las necesidades de los demás, preocupados solamente por nosotros, nuestras familias y nuestros pequeños círculos sociales. Nos desviamos del tema y a veces ni nos damos cuentas que estamos perdidos. Como el hijo joven de la parábola, algo ha pasado que nos vuelve a nuestros sentidos. ENCONTRADO El hijo joven toco fondo y emprende el camino de regreso a casa. Los israelitas aprendieron a confiar y seguir a Dios y entraron a la Tierra Prometida. Encontramos el momento y nos damos cuenta que estamos perdidos y empezamos nuestro camino de regreso hacia el Señor. Jesús no únicamente nos muestra el camino, Cristo es nuestro camino de regreso a la casa de Dios. Nuestra ruta de regreso a menudo es un examen de consciencia, por medio de la cual examinamos nuestros corazones y reconocemos nuestras fallas. Quizá necesitamos hacer algunas rectificaciones a quienes hemos herido; podríamos estar llamados a hacer un cambio de actitud o comportamiento. ¿Estás perdido? Ahora es el tiempo perfecto para abrir nuestra mente y corazón, y admitir que has perdido el camino. La Cuaresma es un tiempo cuando admitimos las formas que estamos perdiendo el objetivo y regresar a Dios. VIVIR LA CUARESMA CON EL PLATO DE ARROZ CRS

El Consejo 3855 de Caballeros de Colón invita a todos los estu-diantes de 8º grado que se gradúan en la primavera de 2019, y ha sido aceptado en cualquier escuela secundaria católica el próximo año, para buscar una posible beca a través de nuestro consejo. La beca es de $ 500.00 por año, por cuatro años de educación católica en la escuela secundaria, por un total de $ 2,000.00.

La beca se otorga por votación del comité según los siguientes criterios:

• Grados • Actividades extracurriculares • Recomendaciones • Necesidad financiera • Servicio comunitario • Ensayo

Los estudiantes pueden imprimir o escribir el formulario de so-licitud completa y correctamente. Una solicitud incompleta será rechazada de consideración. Los estudiantes deberán obtener copias de todos los boletines de calificaciones del 7º grado y del primer semestre del 8º grado que se adjuntan en la parte posterior del formulario de solicitud. Los alumnos escribirán un trabajo incorporando el siguiente tema. “Lo que una beca para una escuela secundaria católica significaría para mí”. Este ensayo debe ser escrito a máquina a doble espacio o procesado por palabra. Los ensayos escritos a mano serán rechazados. Los ensayos no deben tener menos de 150 palabras y estar limitados a una página. El ensayo debe ser grapado a la aplicación detrás de la boleta de calificaciones. Los estudiantes deberán obtener dos cartas de recomendación de los maestros, consejeros, entrenadores o administradores esco-lares que los hayan evaluado académicamente. Los estudiantes deberán adjuntar estas cartas al formulario de solicitud, direc-tamente detrás del ensayo. Los estudiantes necesitarán que un padre custodio o tutor legal firme la solicitud. Los estudiantes no necesitan enviar nada más de lo que se ha solicitado. La fecha límite es el viernes 3 de mayo de 2019 para que los Caballeros de Colón reciban TODAS las solicitudes de becas.
