St. Joseph Catholic Church August 16, 2015 Twentieth Sunday in

Ordinary Time

Dear Parishioners and Friends:

Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood re-

mains in me and I in him. … the one who feeds on me

will have life because of me. [John 6: 56 & 57b.]

Jesus feeds on the Father’s love. He is wrapped

up in the presence of the Father who sent him. When we

feed on Jesus, we have that same life from his Father.

Thus we “remain in him” and abide in him and God is

that never-ending life within us. We manifest this as

Jesus did by giving ourselves away.

To put it another way: Jesus’ invitation to eat

and drink his flesh and blood is an invitation to enter

into his own mystery of thanksgiving and self-giving

dying and rising. Eucharist is both the gift of abundant

supper and the self-giving sacrifice. We are changed by

what we eat into his body and blood through our rela-

tionship of indwelling, divine life. Encounter your sav-

ior again today then give yourself away!

Question for the week: What (who) feeds you?

What gives you energy and life? Then what is your pas-

sion to give to others? That is what gives joy to good

stewards.
