The Fourth Sunday of Easter

April 22, 2018

Dear Parishioners and Friends:

I am the Good Shepherd, and I know mine and mine know

me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father.

[John 10:14]

The true story is told of a late night TV show where a

famous actor was asked by his fans to show them how

emotively he could speak. They asked if he could do the

23rd Psalm. He said it would be no problem. When he fin-

ished, the crowd roared its applause at his performance of

this favorite. But he then turned and asked the audience to

do him the favor of listening to another voice praying the

Psalm. He asked if his pastor could come up on stage and

pray the 23rd Psalm for them. Quietly and slowly a white-

haired gentleman came up and accepted the microphone.

After a long pause, he prayed the Good Shepherd Psalm

perfectly, poignantly, intensely. When he finished, there

was a hush because everyone seemed to be still praying.

The actor came up and embraced him and said, “Thank

you, Father.” And the clergyman sat down. There was a

reverent but sustained applause. Then the famous actor

said, “I know the Good Shepherd Psalm but my pastor

knows the shepherd.”

He is the leader of the AUSCP [Association of US Catho-

lic Priests], a union of priests who support one another and

try to implement the teachings of Vatican II. Take him to

supper and find out what is going on in the larger church!

Question of the week: Do you know the Good Shep-

herd? Do you speak from your heart to God as to a friend?

Do you really enjoy taking time to pray? When do you

like to pray best?

Yo soy el Buen Pastor, conozco a las mías y las mías me cono-

cen a mí, así como el Padre me conoce y yo conozco al Padre.

La verdadera historia es contada de un programa de TV tarde

en la noche donde un actor famoso fue pedido por sus admira-

dores que demostrara que tan emotivamente podía hablar. Le

dijeron si podía recitar el Salmo 23. Él dijo que no había pro-

blema. Cuando terminó, la audiencia lo aplaudió efusivamente

por la actuación de uno de sus favoritos. Pero él entonces se

volteó y le pidió a la audiencia que le hicieran un favor y oyeran

a otra voz rezando el Salmo. Él le pidió entonces a su pastor que

subiera al escenario y rezara el Salmo 23 para ellos. Pausada-

mente y en silencio un hombre de pelo blanco subió al escenario

y aceptó el micrófono. Después de una larga pausa, él rezo el

Salmo del Buen Pastor perfectamente, conmovedoramente, in-

tensamente. Cuando terminó, hubo un silencio porque todavía

todos parecían seguir rezando. El actor fue y lo abrazó y le di-

jo, “Gracias, Padre.” y el sacerdote se sentó. Hubo un reveren-

te pero sostenido aplauso. Entonces el famoso actor dijo, “Yo

conozco el Salmo del Buen Pastor, pero mi pastor conoce al

pastor.”

diendo en la iglesia en general!
