Easter Sunday

April 21, 2019

Dear Parishioners and Friends:

(At the empty tomb, the women remembered His words.) Then they returned from the tomb and announced all these things to the eleven and to all. [Luke 24:9]

Easter dawns upon us. For some like a blinding sunrise, for others like a slow realization that is beyond words. “The women who followed at a distance” during the crucifixion in Luke’s gospel are grieving, struggling to make sense of their loss. They bring spices to anoint the dead body of Jesus and find only the empty tomb. But there they experience an angel who said that He is risen and not in the tomb. This is the “First Station of the Resurrection,” the empty tomb. Under-stand that the resurrection is more of a process than a single moment. It is how Jesus the Christ, glorified and transformed into his Risen Life, is experienced by those who encounter him in faith. This process took time and was different for dif-ferent people. The various bible stories will help us to en-counter him as well, so that our faith in the Risen One may be reawakened.

Pray that you may indeed experience the presence of the Risen Christ in a new way during this Easter season. For this is the heart of the Paschal Mystery that we celebrate: not only that “once upon a time, long ago” one man beat the power of death and went to heaven, but that the victory of Christ’s Ris-en presence is meant for all of us to be a personal journey into God’s living presence where we are changed, trans-formed, and lead into a new light to serve our God and Fa-ther. Pray that this Easter season will bring you into the full-ness of Christ’s life again!

Question for the week: What new life have Holy Week and Easter stirred in you? What do you see in the empty tomb? How is your life a witness to the Risen Christ?

Word for the week: “paschal mystery”: the living, dying and rising of Jesus Christ now includes us and our own exodus from darkness into light as we celebrate it in the Eucharist.

Happy Easter! Your Pastor, Fr. Bob

ON PILGRIMAGE: WALKING WITH THE SAINTS AND MYS-TICS – from Avila (Spain) to Lourdes, France, to Chartres Cathedral via Paris, and on to Lisieux and more of Paris, this pilgrimage is an immersion in the spirituality of the mystics and a walk through the development of centuries of spiritual conscious-ness in Spain and France. This Pilgrimage is more like a retreat, NOT a tour, but a way of traveling faith that is a journey of a life-time. We depart from Jacksonville on October 15, 2019, return on Oct 25.Cost: $4,590 for twin accommodation. See the bulletin board for details. I am extending this invitation to parishioners first for three weeks before opening it up to the diocese. I am taking only 23 people. I have been waiting 30 years to do this pilgrimage! Let me know if you can come with us.

Our Adopted Babies Spiritual Adoption Program

Now your spiritually adopted baby is finished

developing and is concentrating on gaining weight;

he might be making his mother uncomfortable with

her size. He will need a layer of fat to help him stay

warm after he leaves the perfect temperature inside

his mother’s womb. In a short time, her baby will

be born. Your baby’s mother appreciated the pray-

ers you have said for her and her baby throughout

the pregnancy. It has not been easy but your pray-

ers have given her the grace she needed to bring

her baby to term.

A very big thank you to Fran McElroy who pro-

vided a special program for us on how to make Ri-

cotta Cheese and Butter. Following the demonstra-

tion, we all tasted the butter on hot rolls and jelly

prepared by Ann Johnson. Also, we went home

with samples and the delicious recipes. Thank you,

Trisha Pape, for organizing the meal for our meet-

ing.

Thank you to all CCW members who joined us

for our visit to Satilla Health and Rehabilitation on

April 18th. We brought a smile to the faces of the

residents and we left with a good feeling in our

hearts. Thank you!

CCW members/parishioners please plan to help

with sandwiches for Confirmation on May 10th.

Please bring tea sandwiches to the social hall at

4:30PM. Mass is scheduled for 6:00 PM. Mem-

bers/parishioners are needed to help serve and

clean up. We are also needed to Help Serve Only

on May 19th for First Communion following 11:00

AM Mass. Please let Joy know if you can help!

Remember, Mother’s Day May 11, 12th weekend

following the Masses, CCW will have a Fundraiser

which will feature Baked goods, Flowers and Bas-

kets for sale. Please support us with purchasing

that special something for Mom at a reasonable

price.

Enrollment Sunday: Our young people are all excited about their upcoming 1

st Holy Communion and

Confirmation. But next Sunday (April 28) we call them up during 9 & 12 noon Masses at to be ENROLLED in the Book of the Elect and pray over them with their fami-lies and Sponsors (if they can come!). If there are spe-cial gifts to be given to the Elect, we place them on the Altarcito and bless them.
