With this in mind, we welcome these children of God who were baptized the weekend of October 11, 2015: Theo Patrick Nakai son of Keith & Holly; Aniston Irene Kottmann daughter of Michael & Lisa; Rhianna Celestine G. Manahan daughter of Rhoden & Celeste;

ST. JOSEPH’S MEN’S ANNUAL RETREAT!!! OCTOBER 23-25, 2015

PRIESTFIELD RETREAT CENTER CHARLESTOWN, WEST VIRGINIA

This is the final call for the men of the parish to place a reservation for the Men’s Retreat. The experience of attending the Retreat will give you a valuable opportunity to review the direction of your spiritual life. This year we are honored to have as our retreat leader, Fr. David Tickerhoof, T.O.R. For more information, call Bob Grillo at 703-471-5689. God Bless.

Peace and good! The Gospels challenge us to respond to Jesus’ invitation, “Remain here and keep watch with me” (Mt 26:38b). Each of us have the opportunity to spend time before the Blessed Sacrament. These opportunities may be 10 minutes before or after Mass, a holy hour, weekly Eucharistic Adoration, First Friday Eucharistic Adoration, perpetual adoration, or Benediction. This Wednesday, October 21st, you are invited to join parishioners and visiting Catholics to spend time before the Blessed Sacrament on the Day of Prayer and Fasting. Whatever time you find to spend before the Eucharist allows you to experience the blessings and graces of God. Mother Teresa shared: “Night and day, he is there. If you really want to grow in love, come back to the Eucharist, come back to that Adoration.” May our prayer experiences before the Blessed Sacrament be transformative and empower us to become more like Christ. In the peace of Francis of Assisi,

ST. JOSEPH’S CHURCH HERNDON, VIRGINIA TWENTY-NINTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME October 18, 2015

The Parish staff wishes to thank the following parish ministries: We thank our parishioners who joined the Saint Joseph School 8th graders, staff and teachers as chaperones for the SJS Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton. Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton – Pray for us! We thank our parishioners who serve on the Ladies’ Society Craft Fair committee. We look forward to the Craft Fair on Saturday, October 31st.

A Message from the Pastoral Team

Peace and good! After much prayer, discussion, and discernment, we share the following information with you regarding our sacramental life at the parish. Effective the weekend of November 1, 2015, the following two Masses will be removed from the Parish Mass Schedule:

Saturday morning Mass at 6:30 am; and Saturday evening Mass at 7:30 pm.

This decision was made after considering many different factors. Such factors included the parish currently having two full-time priests ministering with and to 3,700 families; the appointment of a third full-time priest not being appointed until the summer 2016; celebrating 11 Masses on the weekends (excluding Weddings and Masses of Christian Burial); Mass attendance at the Masses; etc. We thank you for your understanding regarding this decision. May we continue to grow as a community of faith embracing the Gospel.

Revised Schedule of Masses as of October 31st and November 1st

Saturday, October 31st 8:00 am Mass 3:30 pm Confessions 5:00 pm Mass Sunday, November 1st 7:00 am Mass 8:30 am Mass 10:00 am Mass 11:30 am Mass 1:00 pm Mass 2:00 pm Baptisms 3:30 pm Mass – Spanish 5:00 pm Mass Please note that there are two Masses on the weekdays – Monday through Friday: 6:30 am Mass 8:00 am Mass 8:00 am Mass on Saturday In the peace of Francis of Assisi,

HOMECOMING PARADE This Saturday, October 24th there will not be any Religious Education classes due to the HHS Homecoming Parade. However classes will resume the following week. ROSARY WITH THE DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

On October (Sun.) 18th, (Mon.) 19th, and (Tue.) 20th all Religious Education classes (K-12) will come together to pray the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary in Parish Hall C. This special event is a part of Catechism classes not only to expose our parish’s youth to a well-loved Marian devotion, but also to better

familiarize them with the Gospel mysteries and basic prayers.

RCIA SPONSORS NEEDED Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process by which adults come into the Church. After meeting weekly for instruction (Wednesday 7-9 p.m.) and being introduced into the Catholic way of faith, life, and worship, the unbaptized will receive the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) during the Easter Vigil.

Every adult needs a sponsor. As a representative of the faith community, the sponsor is a companion on the journey to full membership. Sponsors attend the weekly sessions and participate in the liturgical rites. Sponsors offer advice and encouragement and grow together with their catechumen or candidate as they share the various experiences of the meeting: learning, sharing and growing in prayer.

Won’t you share your faith with someone who wishes to join the Church but has no one to journey with him? If interested you may contact Mr. Reyes Ruiz by phone at (703) 880-4332 or email him at [email protected].
