OUR WEEKLY MISSIONHappy Easter – Alleluia – Jesus is Risen from the Dead! Happy Easter to you and your families! Jesus’ Resurrection from the dead changes everything. Quite literally, the course of human history is forever altered because death has been swallowed up by eternal life. Today we celebrate the triumph

of the author of life who died and rose from the dead, forever bringing about an unbreakable union of God and mankind: A Holy Communion. Announcing HAPPY EASTER to your family members, neighbors, strangers, and fellow sinners means that you are committed to deepening a personal relationship with Jesus Christ risen from the dead, whose saving action brought you forgiveness and love.Proclaiming Happy Easter means that every man, woman and child counts himself immortal, saying just as Christ is risen, so too will I rise: rise from the hatred, rise from the anger, rise from the pride, rise from the lust, rise from the envy and the greed. Whatever personal sins you may be struggling with or whatever darkness you may be facing, today rejoice and be glad for your salvation is at hand. Jesus’ Resurrection empties the deadly sins of their power and the baptized are clothed with incorruptibility! When you return home with your kids, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins…maybe on the car ride home tell them one thing: Today, sacrificial love won the victory…God made you immortal, you are made for Heaven. Tell them the truth about what we are made for: our goal is Heaven and we are made to be Saints and we get there through Holy Communion – a real relationship with Jesus Christ in this life. We are commissioned to leave from this place proclaiming the message of the angel in our Gospel: "Do not be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified Lord of life. He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said. Come and follow me to the place where he lives now…” Take the risen Jesus with you into your communities, families, schools and workplaces…become bearers of the Holy Communion our world desperately seeks. Happy Easter and never forget, the Lord is with us…always!

“For through the law I died to the law, that I might live for God. I have been crucified with Christ; yet I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me; insofar as I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God who has loved me and given himself up for me.”

APRIL 21, 2019 YOUTH AND SCHOOL NEWS

FATHER JAMIE’S HEALING HUMORIn religion class, the third graders were assigned to draw a picture of “What Easter means to me.” One girl sketched a man with a beard whom she identified as Jesus rising from the grave with the caption: “If he sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter.” (from JOKES PRIESTS CAN TELL, VOL. 6, by Msgr Arthur Tonne, 1988)What does Easter mean to you? The reality of Easter is that Jesus rose from the dead. What I means to you and me makes all the difference in our lives. St. Paul says that we are fools to follow Christ if he did not rise. Let’s be fools for Christ because he did rise. It’s all because of the Resurrection that we have hope for better days and hope in a life that lasts forever.

PARISH MINISTRIES

LIBRARY HELP NEEDEDPlease consider helping in the St. Columbkille school library. There are many tasks at the SCS library with which we would welcome your assistance!

Here are a few examples: Are you great at wrapping gifts or have a way with contact paper? Maybe you would like to help process and protect our new books! Do you like to do work on the computer? Do you like to make displays? Do you like reading with or to children or helping with the birthday book club students choosing their books? Each day from 8:15 a.m. to 8:35 a.m. would be a great time for a volunteer to check in books from students. Help with light cleaning, organizing and shelving is always appreciated as well. I hope to bring the students closer to God and more appreciative of the teachings of Jesus while they are in the library. Your help is welcome!

HEARTLAND HOSPICEHeartland Hospice needs volunteers. There are numerous volunteer opportunities at Heartland:

o Friendly visits: Visit with patients in care facilities or their home.

o Relief sitting: Sit with a patient in their home for a care giver relief break.

o Visit with a buddy: Make visits with a friend for support and fun.

o Help with activities: Assist our patients with participating in crafts or bingo.

o Special events: Attend special events with patients in facilities. You can participate by scooping ice cream, singing, or assisting patients at outside events.

o Concerts: Do you belong to a choir or musical group? Are you a DJ or like karaoke or play an instrument? You can entertain patients with your talents.

o Vigils: Sit vigil with patients who are actively dying. Vigil volunteers receive special training to help support the patient and their family during this critical time.

o We honor veterans: Veteran volunteers can be paired with hospice patients who are veterans to assist with their unique needs.

Heartland provides flexible volunteer training schedules. Our volunteers offer friendly visits and companionship. Our volunteers do not provide nursing or physical care to patients.Call the Volunteer Coordinator to discuss your interests: Krysta Falasca and/or Mary Seay at (216) 520-0765.

Faith is the answer to fear. Deep down we are all afraid of suffering, or of dying,

or of God’s judgment, or of the unknown,or of weakness, or of our livesslipping out of our control, or

of not being understood and loved. We sin because we fear. We bully

because we are cowards. Faith castsout fear as light casts out darkness.

God has shone his light into our world, and it is stronger than darkness.

That light is Jesus Christ.

Peter Kreeft (Catholic Christianity)
