IntroductionThis unit will be based on print based advertising. The definition of the print based advertising is when the advertisement would be physically printed so that the consumers are able to physically see the advertisement . Examples of print based advertising are newspapers adverts, magazine adverts or billboards. In this unit I will be creating a festivals posters, which will be sponsored by my music magazine, EXCLUSIVE.To create my magazine I will need to find a festivals poster of inspiration so that I am able to gain knowledge of a good festivals poster that is fun and also appeal to the public.

Mood Board

This is an image of the festival and what the target audience or type of experience that the person will have. This is important as at this festival, it is colourful and fun as it will want to appeal to the younger people because they will most likely be interested in music.

This is an image of another festival poster. This is a creative poster as it is of a gorilla. This poster is also colour so that it will reflect the experience of the person will have at this music festival as it is a life change experience that you will have.

This is an image of the festival poster for reading. This is important as this is one of the most famous festival in the UK and bring people across the country to listen to the music and have a great experience. This poster is simple and have a simple house style and it also appeal to their audiences as it is very poplar.

Page 7: Sophie Angus Unit 15 LO1

Aims and Objectives

The aim of this campaign for Glastonbury is for people to buy tickets to this event s and therefore ensuring them that they will have an experience of a life time when they are at Glastonbury. This poster is promoting that this festival start from 22nd June and finish on the 26th June 2016. This is creating awareness of the festivals and also the lineup of artists and bands that will be feature in the festivals. This campaign aim is to directly to sell and also to create brand awareness and informs for the people who are interested in the festivals. The line up of artists and brands on the posters will create ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) as the artists and band could sparks their fans interest to go Glastonbury so that they can see their favourite artists and bands live.

Page 8: Sophie Angus Unit 15 LO1

Target Audience

By referring to the Maslow theory, the audience would be ‘survivors’ as some people will be going to Glastonbury every year until they are unable to go or when they are dead. They will gain the knowledge about the music through Glastonbury as they will have different genre of live music that the festival will present. In addition, they would be ‘explorers’ as they like to know different music information and also explore different genre of music through the festival. This is important as they will be exploring different cultural that is not present in everyday life. Also, it will be a chance for them to listen to different genre of music and not the same music that they will listen to.

Abraham Maslow

Page 9: Sophie Angus Unit 15 LO1

Target Audience

According to the Katz theory of ‘diversion’ the audience can escape from reality by reading the Glastonbury because then they don’t have to think about their real life like work and do something that they are interested in themselves by reading their favourite music magazine. Furthermore, the audience can be ‘informed’ and ‘educated’ because they can learn more about the artists/bands, the music industry and therefore they will be able to see them live because they will have new music like Ellie Goulding and also old music like Madness. This will mean that the young people who go to Glastonbury are able to listen to music what their parents will listen to.

Elihu Katz

Page 10: Sophie Angus Unit 15 LO1

Target Audience

By referring to the ‘Hartley’s 7 Subjectivities’ they would be considering the age, gender, class, ethnicity, self-image, nationality and family when analysing the reasons why different groups may like the same thing. Glastonbury Festival will appeals to the age range between 18-54 as they will most likely be in the social group of E as they could be student but also they will be in the categories of C2, C1 and B. This is important as the people in the categories of C2, C1 and B will more likely be able to afford to go to Glastonbury as they tickets are expensive and therefore they will need money to spare. In addition, the reason why people in the E categories will want to go to Glastonbury is because they will want to experience festival life as they will want to listen to live music as they will be student and want to go to the festivals with their friends. In addition, the reason why they are targeted at younger and older people is because there are artists and bands that are mainly targeted at them. This is important because they have artists/bands for young people such as new music Ellie Goulding and also have artists/bands for older people such as Madness

John Hartley Gender Ethnicity Self-image FamilyClassAge Nation

Page 11: Sophie Angus Unit 15 LO1

Target Audience

The people who will more likely to attend Glastonbury will have the socio-economic of D, C2, C1 and B as they will more likely be students, young adult and also young people. This is important as people in the A categories will be banker, lawyers and other professional so they will be too busy or wouldn't be interested to go to Glastonbury, camp outside and get dirty. This is why people will who go to Glastonbury will have jobs, which is a bit more relax. This would more likely be in a job that is creative as they will understand the deeper meaning of Glastonbury and also how creative it is. The age range of the people who will attend Glastonbury would be 18-54 so they will be old enough to get a job to pay for themselves to attend the festival.

Page 12: Sophie Angus Unit 15 LO1

Target AudienceAccording to the Psychographic theory they would be ‘explorers’ as they are searching for new information about the music through the festival and therefore they maybe interested in the music industry such as event organiser or singer. The ‘explorers’ would normally be the younger demographic like students or young adults. ‘Reformers’ are also included in psychographic theory as now they have a new sense of freedom as it could be their first time at a music festival. This will enable to know what music they like and what music they don’t like and they seek help at festivals . As now as ‘reformers’ they would start to be more socially aware of information.

The ‘reformers’ will link to stereotypes as they will be more socially aware of themselves and therefore they will be dressing to impress. This is important as the women would want to dress like a ‘hipsters’ with demi, bikini top or a crop top, long blonde hair, welly boots and flowers in their hair. This is important as most young women would dress like this and think they will be look different and unique. Another sstereotypes that Glastonbury will have is the bearded original rockers as will be wearing demi long jean, a t-shirt with a old rock logo on it and finally a leather jacket. This is important as they will the most knowledge at the festival as they would of be going since they were young and therefore they will be saying sentences like ‘back in my day, Glastonbury was …’

Page 13: Sophie Angus Unit 15 LO1

Target AudienceGlastonbury cost £228 plus £5 per tickets for the festival between 22nd June to 27th

Monday. In 2016 their was an estimation of 135,000 tickets where sold at Glastonbury. This is important as Glastonbury should make £31,455,000 by ticket sells and therefore it will be thier spending power. This will mean that they are able to get well know artsits/bands to perform next year and therefore make more money. This will target people wh are over 45 becuase they will be able to afford to buy the tickets as they will be in the categories of C2, C1 and B. Also one person out of five festivals people will be over 45 and therefore they will enjoy themselves at the festivals. This mean 27000 was at Glastonbury who over the age of 45. In addition, Glastonbury would have made £6,291,000 by ticket cost of the people who are over the age of 45. The reason why people who are over the age of 45 go to Glastonbury ebcuase they will enjoy yo listen to live music and also will more likely be able to afford to go to Glastonbury as they tickets are expensive and therefore they will need money to spare.

Page 14: Sophie Angus Unit 15 LO1

RepresentationThe definition of representation is the different ways that the media will portrays specific groups, experience, ideas and communities from the specific ideological perspective. This is important as Glastonbury will be targeted at middle class people as they tickets are expensive and therefore they will need some money to spare in order to buy the tickets for Glastonbury. This is important as the tickets for Glastonbury cost £228 plus £5 per tickets for the festival between 22nd June to 27th Monday. Therefore, poorer people may not be able to afford to go to Glastonbury.

There are 8 different stereotypes that people will be expected to see at Glastonbury as they will want to enjoy themselves. This will mean that Glastonbury has already place people into individual groups so hat it will warn people what they will expect to see whilst they are at Glastonbury. An example of a stereotypes are hipsters as they will be described as ‘a mass social movement of individualism. Their denim shorts may need to be surgically removed’. The John Berger (1972) theory is when ‘men act’ and ‘women appear’. This is important as the men will stare at the women because of the way they will dress at the festival. This is important as the women will dress like a ‘hipsters’ and therefore it will appeal to most men by the way they dress. This will relate to the to the male Laura Mulvey(1975) “male gaze” and also Diana Saco (1994) ‘female gaze’ as males and females may find someone at the festival who they will find attractive or artists/bans member they will find attractive as well. This would be part of the festival experience as they will want find attractive people who is at the festival as well as listening to live music.

Campaign MessageCampaign Message

The way that Glastonbury will sell themselves to the public so the public will but tickets for the festival is by the lineup which is presented on the poster and also the reputation that Glastonbury have. This is important as Glastonbury will pick artists and names have a big popularity among people so that it will bring in more sells ad also artists that is currently in the media. Example of this is Adele after releasing her latest album 25 after her 4 years break from the music industry. Glastonbury is presenting the festival as social event, where they are able to listen to good music and also meet new people at the festival. This is a message that Glastonbury would like to portray to their fans. This is a chance for them to be stress free and therefore they can enjoy themselves and have fun at the festival. This festival is in June so that they people will have something to look forward as a treat before the summer holiday. Also, the people would have booked their ticket in October, which mean they have 9 months to look forward to the festival. This will mean they are able to plan the activities that they will be planning to do at the festival. Glastonbury would have excited the people who have paid for the tickets as they will be able to see all of the expected artists and bands that will be at Glastonbury performing. In addition, the bright colours will excite the viewers as the colours will represent their freedom of listening to live music at a famous festival that everyone know and also make history. On the poster will have put the best known artists and band such as Adele and Coldplay in a larger front. However, artists and bands who are not currently in the media all the time such as madness and underworld as in lowercase font. The yellow colour would be used to create excitement so the people are able to keep up the excitement of the festival and therefore appeal to people who are going to Glastonbury. Another, colour that is used in this poster is white, so that it will represent how the music at Glastonbury is pure and therefore the music will be sung by artists and bands who work their way to become the best as they can be in the music industry. This festival is annually as people will have to wait until next time to go to Glastonbury and have the same experience as everyone at the festival will share the same love and passion for the music that will be performed at Glastonbury.

Page 16: Sophie Angus Unit 15 LO1

Print Advertisements used in the campaign

Glastonbury has other others ways to advertise instead of having a poster print based advertisement as they will depend on social media such as Facebook and Twitter as they are able to share information about the festival and therefore excited them about the festival. In addition, they are able to share about the festival to people who are unable to go. In addition, there are different app that relate to Glastonbury such as a Glastonbury countdown so that their target audience are able to be exciting amount Glastonbury and to keep remind them about their festival because they will be able to look forward to the trip. In the countdown, it will mention the day, hours, minutes and second until they will go to Glastonbury. The app will cost £1.49 to buy.

Another way that Glastonbury will advertise themselves is by on their official website. This is important the fans of Glastonbury are able to find out the day when the tickets will be on sales and therefore they will know when they have to buy them. On the page about the tickets their will be information that people may want to look at such as the price of the tickets so that they can able to decide if they want to go to Glastonbury or not before 3rd Monday October 2016. However, it haven't released the line for the 2017 Glastonbury festival.

Page 17: Sophie Angus Unit 15 LO1

Print Advertisements used in the campaign

When it will be leading up to Glastonbury, it will start to released who will be performing at the festival. This is important as they will have to make an announcement or the artists/bands of the names. This is important as they will have to create a print advertisements that will excited people about the preform at Glastonbury. This will be their official lineup which will mean that people will be expecting to see and head the artists/bands. They will have to use a house style that will appeal to both males and females and also represent Glastonbury. This is important as the poster will need to be good portray of what Glastonbury is about. One the final poster, there will need a good selection of colours that are involved, the dates of the festival and the lineup of all of the artists and bands that will be preforming at Glastonbury. This is important as they will need top know if they are able to attend to Glastonbury or not.

Page 18: Sophie Angus Unit 15 LO1

Legal and EthicalThe videos for Glastonbury will need to be copyright once it has finish as they will would to have ownership of the creation and also they wouldn’t want people to steal the original idea of the poster. Glastonbury will need to have permission to use the artists/bands’ names on the band before they created the poster so that they are able to use the artists/bands’ name to advertise the festival. This mean if anyone uses the material without permission, then the person or the company have the legal right to sue them. This is important as if a person or company use the item with copyright and haven’t asked to use, they will breaking the copyright laws and therefore they could face criminal charges such as paying an expensive fine. This is why it is important to gain the permission from the owners before using the item. The artists/bands must give permission to Glastonbury to use their names so that Glastonbury wouldn’t be breaking any copyright infringement. In addition, this can relate to intellectual property as well as copyright.

However, Glastonbury must take to account libel as the poster must not create anything that could potentially ruin an artists/bands’ reputation or print out any false about the artists/bands. In addition, the royalties are important as is when some is getting pay when their material is shared. Such as a song is getting played on the radio, the royalties will go to the artist who sung the song. The creator will have to give the company their permission to use the creation. This is important as artists/bands are able to gain more money from Glastonbury as they will need to give their permission to their names or the bands’ logo so that they are able to advertise the dates of when the artists/bands will be preforming.

Page 19: Sophie Angus Unit 15 LO1

Legal and EthicalIn addition, when looking at the legal and ethical issue they must check they have caused any issues by using offensive and violence languages that they have portray on their poster or by the action. This is important as Glastonbury is a family place because it is free for children who are under the age of 12. therefore they have to be are by their action because it could affect such as teaching them a bad way to act. When they are looking at the different legal and ethical issues will consider a model release. This is important as it is important to gain someone’s permission to use their work before using it for advertisement purposes such as using a band’s logo. This is important as, if the festival use someone’s else work without gaining permission before and also without signing a legal document for the permission. The owner will have a legal right sue them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpubLPTaPjg

Page 31: Sophie Angus Unit 15 LO1

Target AudienceAccording to the Psychographic theory they would be ‘aspirers’ as they will want to seeking statues and therefore by using the internet and watch the videos, which was upload by BBC music without actually going to Glastonbury. This is important as they will be able to gain the same information then if they were at Glastonbury because they will be sharing the music to the views and also sharing the important moment that have been feature in Glastonbury such as a man propose to his girlfriend who both work behind the sense at Glastonbury. RepresentationThe definition of representation is the different ways that the media will portrays specific groups, experience, ideas and communities from the specific ideological perspective. This is important as on the audio visual advertisement, they will reveal the stereotypically people who will go to Glastonbury. This is important as on the first screen shot, there is a girl wearing a clear raincoat. This is important as clear raincoat is an item of clothing that people wouldn’t wear in their everyday life but however, they will be wearing this item to festivals. This is important as the rest of young people would be wearing raincoats that thy wouldn’t wear in their normal life. In addition, in the second screen shot, there is a man who is wearing a blue and white suit. This is important as this will reveal that he want to stand out and get notice by the cameras. This is a stereotype because everyone in Glastonbury will be wearing unique clothes so that they will be an individual and therefore show off their own style to people. On another screen shot there are reveal a group of girls dance with flowers in their hair. This is important as this is what girls will typically wear at festivals because flowers is a sign of peace and therefore it will represent Glastonbury to be a peaceful place and a place where people can enjoy themselves. The theories that will link to representation as the Laura Mulvey (1975) “male gaze” and also Diana Saco (1994) ‘female gaze’ because it is a places where people can meet new people and also fin people attractive as well.
