Good News Letter
Walking in His Light -together Second Sunday of Lent 8th March 2020 Year A
Céad Míle Fáilte – 100,000 welcomes!
Food and Drink for the Journey In last week’s Gospel we saw Jesus being tempted by the devil - just like the rest of us! This week we see Him transformed in all His glory – the glory of God...not so human! Many people nurse a secret dream of glory and want to stand out and be recognised. Some dream of the glory of being the most admired person in the
room - or scoring the winning goal - the ballerina star - the actor picking up the Academy award etc. Lots of people chase
appreciation, recognition, and long to stand out in glory. On the mountain Peter, James and John got a glimpse of real glory – the glory of God revealed in Jesus. As Christians our dream of glory
is meant to mature so that eventually we stand out, not by talent, looks, muscles, or speed, but by the love we give and
receive to and from others – it’s living out the Gospel values , it’s by the depth of our compassion, and the quality of our
forgiveness. As we continue our Lenten journey may we make sure that we don’t miss any of God's glory and action because we
are asleep spiritually!
ACKNOWLEDGED WITH THANKS

bow to the divine in you”.
Forget-Me-Not Launch of St. Patrick’s Sing-along with Afternoon tea.
After a very encouraging and well-attended meeting last week,
we are launching a new group on St. Patrick’s Day, Tuesday 17th March, 2.00-3.30 pm in St. Patrick’s Hall-a sing-along with
afternoon tea. If you would like some company, a chat and some fun singing old songs, if you feel lonely at times, if you are
bereaved or living with dementia or caring for someone with dementia, please do come along. Everyone is welcome. If you
can’t come but would like to support this new venture, maybe you could bake some cakes or scones, provide some biscuits, or donate a linen table cloth you no longer need- we would be
delighted to receive any offerings to get us going. Please contact either Cathy Wilton (07840 155978) or Rosemary Purcell (07712

.Are you tired of giving up chocolate for Lent?
Then here are some other creative ideas on what
you can do for your Lenten commitment.
Daily Mass … with a Twist……Whether you are
already a daily Mass goer or not, resolve to go during Lent.
(invite someone to come with you, or let them know you have
prayed for them)
Secret Intercessor - Pick one person for whom you feel called
to offer prayer and sacrifice during the Lenten season. Send
them a card on Holy Saturday letting them know that you have
offered your Lenten observance as an act of love for them.
Pray the Rosary every day (or on specific set days) for the intentions
of someone in your life
Every Sunday pray about TWO Concrete and actionable things
that you are called to do during the upcoming week of Lent
eg…..
FAST ON GOSSIP - Gossip is one of the best things to give up
during Lent - and continue to give up for the rest of your life. It
can be difficult to keep from spreading news, but the reality is
that too many of us spread news we have no right to spread
FAST ON CRISTISM - As with gossiping, criticizing others is
socially acceptable but it shouldn't be. For Lent this year,
consider keeping your words in check. If you feel like saying
something negative about someone - including yourself - think
twice. Recall the old adage: If you don't have anything nice to
say, don't say anything at all.
