    Why is SAFETY important?

    safety is about what you can do toprotect the people you are responsiblefor. Its the right thing to do. Teachersshould send their students home in the

    same condition they came in. a safe work environment boosts

    students, teachers and schoolemployees morale, which, in turn,

    increases productivity, efficiency andprofit margins. When people feel likethey have a good, safe workenvironment, they feel like they canmake a difference.

    suggests HAZARD.

    The combination of the likelihood of ahazardous event occurring and the

    consequence of the event.

    What is hazard?

    Anything that has the POTENTIAL tocause harm.

    A SOURCE of danger.

    HAZARDOUS EVENT- takes place

    when someone or something interacts

    with the hazard.

    What is risk assessment?

    A means of making sure that the mostserious risks are managed and

    controlled.

    A careful observation and assessmentof anything in the school that could

    cause people to suffer injury or ill-

    health while they are in the premises.

    What is accident? Incident?

    Accident- an undesired event thatresults in injury/ property damage

    Incident- an event or condition thatdoes not cause harm but has the

    potential to do so.

    Why is it important to

    investigate? To collect the information you may

    need to pass on to enforcing

    authorities.

    To clearly identify the cause of incident

    or accident to stop it from happening

    again.

    Remember:

    Incidents that dont result in any loss,damage or injury, also need to be

    reported. Because this could cause

    injury or loss next time it happens.

    Reporting the accident or

    incidentAs soon as possible after the accident,

    we need to tell the supervisor. Thesupervisor will then start the reportingprocess.

    In most organizations, the reportingprocess depends on the severity of theinjury or damage.

    In case of severe injury or damage thereporting process will be carried out tothe senior management for immediateand appropriate action.

    Our Responsibilities

    To NOTICE any of previous incident. Take ACTION and make SURE that the child

    is SAFE.

    REPORT to the administration what we see

    or know. SUPPORT the child.

    LISTEN to the child.

    Keep an EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATIONand TRUST between the staff and students.

    All staff should UNDERSTAND theirresponsibilities in keeping students safe, andto report any danger or abuse.

    Our students rights

    All students are equals and should be protected. Any act against students protection or any form

    of threat against their safety is unacceptable.

    Students safety is our responsibility.

    Our responsibility is to protect, maintain a safeenvironment and report any concern/incident.

    Students have the right to keep their recordconfidential . All reports must be filed separatelyfrom other students files.

    Physical intervention is not acceptable. Treat the students with respect in any situation

    to maintain the positive role of the school inimproving students lives .

    In case of danger, what should

    we do? Immediately make sure that the student is safe. Conduct first aid procedures, if required.

    Report what happened to the principal/socialworker/supervisor.

    Action will be taken by principal, social worker.Supervisor and coordinator :

    Investigate the issue.

    Communicate with concerned people ( other students-teachers, staff, parents)

    Make sure the student is physically and emotionallysafe.

    Give the student/s the support. Follow up and makesure this will not happen again.
