On Ash Wednesday and on the First Sunday of Lent, we invited you to pick up a copy of “The Case for Jesus” at the entrances of the church. Last Sunday, we held the first session of “Making The Case for Jesus”, our ministry of discussion and prayer for those whose loved ones have left the practice of the faith due to the misinformation that our culture sows about our belief in Christ. Is there someone in your life who no longer believes in Christianity? Would you like to join us to discover the answers to the questions they’re asking, and to pray that they return to the practice of the faith? We’ll gather this Sunday at 5:30pm in the Social Hall. We’d love to have you with us to pray and to learn how to answer the questions about the faith that our culture throws at our loved ones!

The youth groups of St Ursula and St Mary of the Assumption are planning an amazing Lenten experience! On the evening of March 18, they will put on a Living Stations play at our parish church that will help us prepare for Holy Week. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend this inspiring event!

Last Advent, St Ursula Parish partnered with St Mary of the Assumption Parish for an Advent Penance service held at St Mary’s. This Lent, we’re partnering again, and holding a Lenten Penance service here at St Ursula’s on Monday of Holy Week. Please plan on joining us, in order to experience God’s mercy in the Sacrament of Reconciliation! Blessings, Fr. Larry

GRAND RAFFLE TICKET DISTRIBUTION – We are trying something different this year. Grand Raffle tickets will be sorted alphabeti-cally by last name and available for pick-up in the side vestibule the weekends of March 3 - 4 and March 10 - 11. Please plan to stop by to pick up your tickets and, if possible, pick up

and deliver tickets for your friends, neighbors, and relatives. BASKET RAFFLE DONATIONS – The Basket Raffle booth is one of the most popular booths at the festival. The booth relies on donations of new items, tickets to sporting events, lottery tickets, etc. If you are a member of a St. Ursula group or committee, please consider proposing that your group or committee sponsor a basket this year. Individual donations are also welcome. Please drop them off at the Parish Office during regular office hours. FESTIVAL PLANNING – The next festival planning meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 14, at 6:00pm in the Parish Social Hall. All are welcome to attend, lend their talents to the festival committee, and learn what’s planned for this year.

THANK YOU to the very generous people of St. Ursula Parish AGAIN!! The God Squad Valentine’s Treat collection raised over $1,800 dollars for the Mission 2018. God bless our donors and students who attend this year. March 10, Saturday classes 9:30 - 11:00am: Good Shepherd children will meet in the atrium. Grade 1 meets in their classrooms. Grade 2 and parents - Breaking Bread Session. Meet in school cafeteria. Grades 3 - 8 meet in church for Reconciliation then class. No classes scheduled for March 11….turn your clocks ahead and you’ll be on time for Mass! MAKING THE CASE FOR JESUS Have you ever watched the ‘religious’ programs that come on TV around Easter time? Under the guise of ‘history’ or ‘science’, they try to explain away the things we believe as Christians. “Oh, the Bible is unreliable”… “we don’t know who wrote the Gospels”… “Jesus never did the things they say he did”… and on and on. Would you like to learn the real truth? Would you like to learn how to answer these objec-tions? Our families are battered by these objections from all sides… but we can answer them with truth and conviction! Please join us in the Parish Social Hall on Sunday at 5:30pm, as we “Make The Case for Jesus”! LENTEN MEAGER MEALS — You are invited to attend our Lenten Meager Meal on Fridays during Lent from 12:30pm to 1:45pm in the Parish Social Hall. During Lent, we are encouraged to eat a meager meal (e.g., soup, bread, and water) at least once a week in order to unite ourselves with the poor and hungry among us. Various church groups will be preparing and serving the meals. The menu for the week will be posted in the church vestibules. The suggested donation is $3 per person. Stations of the Cross will take place in the church at 2pm. AARP 3736 welcomes new members every 2nd Thursday of the month at 7:30 P.M. (except June and July). Meetings are held in St. Ursula Church Social Hall, with elevator access from the side entrance. Entertaining programs are followed by snacks and fe l lowship . There a re specia l dinner events in December, May, and August; plus a variety of exciting trips are offered throughout the year for members and their guests.

ZEAL FOR YOUR HOUSE WILL CONSUME ME – Jesus reacts passionately upon seeing the money changers and vendors in the temple area taking advantage of those who were coming to worship. After all, the

temple was to be a house of prayer and sacrifice, not a place to make a profit off of the unsuspecting faithful. Jesus does not just sit back after witnessing such injustice. Instead, he acts confidently to bring about needed change. We can all think about things in the Church that are in need of change. Some may wonder why there are so many empty pews and why there are seemingly few young people and families active in the Church. Others may ask why the same people seem to be the ones who always do everything for the parish. Still others may feel that they are no opportunities for them to share their gifts and get involved. On Mission for The Church Alive! is an opportunity for us to be inspired, to be consumed with zeal for the Church, the house and family of God, so that we may act with confidence in sharing our lives for the good of the Church. We all have a part to play in strengthening the Church of Pittsburgh. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed. NORTH HILLS COMMUNITY OUTREACH has an urgent need for volunteers interested in helping seniors in the Route 28 corridor. Specifically, volunteer drivers and on-board dispatchers are needed for the Free Rides for Seniors shuttles, which transport seniors in the Route 28 communities to UPMC medical appointments and shopping during weekdays. No special license is needed and training is provided. Shifts are short. Please contact Kerry at [email protected] or 412-449-0151 for more information.

BTA Pot O’ Gold Bash! The biggest BTA event of the year is happening on Saturday, March 10, 2018! Blessed Trinity Academy is hosting our 1st Annual Pot O’ Gold Bash at the BTA Early Childhood Center gym (Newmeyer Hall, on the

Advent Angel

Oh Advent Angel come to me, Open my eyes that I may see

The Babe, Who born on Christmas day,

Lay in a manger in the hay And smiled upon the world so vast,

And in our hearts He cast A spell of peace and love.

Oh Advent Angel take my hand

And guide me with your heavenly band To my Saviour, newborn King,

Whose praises all your angels sing And will forever through all time—

Because He is our Lord sublime.

Marilyn McNeil de Latour

KEEP HOLY THE SABBATH There’s no better way to deepen our Lenten practice than to review the Ten Commandments. The first three, having to do with our right relationship to God, get the most ink. The one we busy people probably have the most problem with is keeping holy the Sabbath. If we take this commandment literally, babies will go undiapered and dishes will stay on the table, or perhaps meals will not be served. The sick will go unattended and nothing that has anything to do with physical labor will be done. Is mental labor really work? How about changing that dirty diaper (poor baby!)? We need to depend on God to discern how to observe real Sabbath time in our lives. The point of this commandment is that God has given us a great gift: one whole day per week when we are free to rest, worship God, sing, feast, love, and rejoice. As Psalm 19 proclaims: “The law of the LORD is perfect, / refreshing the soul” (19:8). Our Sabbath rest is a great gift, to be received from God with joy, not with nitpicking. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

This year in every parish across the Diocese of Pittsburgh, the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available on Wednesday, March 21 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00p.m. Consider making a

commitment this Lent to experience the healing grace of God’s forgiveness and love.
