    Project Overview

    The Dulles Corridor is home to several of the

    Washington metropolitan regions most dynamic

    activity centers, including Tysons Corner, the

    Reston-Herndon area, Dulles Airport and the

    rapidly growing residential and commercial

    activity centers in eastern Loudon County.

    the Dulles Corridor.

    Project Description

    Constructed by the cooperation of the Metropolitan

    Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) with the

    Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority

    (WMATA).

    The extension work is constructed from the west of

    the existing East Falls Church Metrorail station

    (Orange Line) to the Wiehle Avenue in Reston.

    The extension work offers direct service to

    Tysons Corner which includes 5 new stations

    comprise of Tysons East, Tysons Central 123,

    Tysons Central 7, Tysons West and Wiehle

    Avenue.

    the existing Orange Line (between the East Falls

    The 11.7 mile extension is the first phase of a

    proposed 23.1 mile extension of Metrorail west

    to Dulles International Airport and Loudoun

    County which is summarized as Locally

    Preferred Alternative (LPA).

    Project Status

    The construction was planned to start in 2005

    but the delays in funding approval pushed back

    the start date.

    Utility relocation work began in 2008. In March

    2009, construction of 11.7 miles Phase 1 began.

    In January 2013, the construction of Phase 1 of

    the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project from East

    Falls Church to Wiehle Avenue in Reston has

    reached 87% of completion.

    Phase 2 estimated to be completed in 2015

    The project costs a total of US$ 2.916 billion.

    This figure includes US$ 2.632 billion for Final

    Design and Construction costs and US$ 283.8

    million in financing costs through 2013.

    Keeps hundreds of thousands of cars off the streets

    every day and households save up to US$ 305

    million per year on costs related to owning and

    driving cars.
