V itex Extrusion LLC, under the leadership of Andrew Curland, President and CEO, took over this extrusion plant in 2007.

The new management team has and continues to change the business focus in a big, dramatic way. This 115,000 square foot plant, which was built in 1986 and originally owned by the former Jarl Extrusion, changed ownership six times through a series of mergers and acquisitions prior to 2007. Limited capital investment was put into the plant and it suffered in its productivity, having two aging 7" and 9" extrusion lines and virtually no fabricating capability. Vitex has completely turned things around with both extensive investments in a modern, world class extrusion press and downstream machining and fabricating capabilities. They removed the old

This is the new 8" extrusion line that incorporates world class 'front loading' technologies for optimum operating efficiency of the extrusion process. The billet [A], 8" diameter by a calculated length, up to 47" is heated to a prescribed flow point temperature, again based on the size and shape of the extrusion. The 2750 ton press ram [B] applies pressure to the tail end of the billet and the aluminum is extruded out of the head end of the extruder through a die [not shown]. The speed, the feed, the temperature of the billet all have a role to play in controlling tolerances.

cases, a manufacturer needing an extruded part would buy the extrusion, have it shipped to a fabricator for processing, then shipped again to fill their production needs. All that represents added time in queue and additional costs. Vitex has incorporated a powerful, streamlined manufacturing solution for their customers, combining world class extrusion with downstream machining and fabrication capabilities. Since first acquiring the company in 2007, Curland and his management team have been making continuous investments into new machining centers and other downstream fabricating capabilities. The company’s value added division capabilities currently include eight vertical cnc machining centers, three batch type recut saws,

7" extrusion line, and installed a brand new 8", 2750 ton, front loading extrusion line. What makes the new line so much better can be partially explained with these improvements: Significantly higher productivity. Quicker die change times. Tighter dimensional tolerances. Superior surface finishes.

Now, this expanded extrusion capability sounds great, but there’s a lot more behind the Vitex Extrusion story. A new business plan was conceived based on the premise that in many

Once the aluminum is extruded, it is stretched on this big table to straighten the bars. The size is carefully

calculated to hold the shape tolerance.

This is an overview of the complete line. The extrusions are sawed to accurate lengths once the

stretch is completed as seen in the fore ground. The last step after this is the tempering ovens where the

grain structure is refined according to the customers request.

The press operator monitors and controls all the phases of the press at his control panel.

two large tub vibratory deburring machines, a specialty orbital deburring machine and a number of other specialty items including two CMM’s for their quality lab. By focusing on the synergy of extrusion with on-site fabrication and finishing of aluminum components, Vitex continues to add valuable capabilities for their customers. The latest example is their new KIWA KH 45 six pallet

horizontal machining center. The horizontal multi-pallet set up allows for continuous machining of multi-faced parts in quicker cycle times versus machining on a traditional vertical machining center. The multi-pallet technology features the ability to load and run several customer parts concurrently, enabling quicker response times.

Custom work stations can be designed to optimize component cycle times for

large scale production requirements.

In a nutshell, Vitex offers the ability to extrude profiles, cut to size, machine, weld, finish and custom package high tolerance finished aluminum components. They will work with customers at any stage of manufacturing, from partial production to total supply chain management including:

North Easton Machine Celebrates a Golden Anniversary North Easton Machine Company (North Easton, MA) celebrated its 50th anniversary on Friday, September 19, 2014, at the historic Oakes Ames Memorial Hall. The event included past and present company staff, customers, colleagues and elected officials. Company president, Jon Holbrook, was presented with a proclamation to mark the achievement, from the Massachusetts House of Representatives by Representative Claire Cronin. In his speech that followed, Mr. Holbrook took time to thank North Easton

Machine’s employees, customers and others in attendance for helping North Eason become the success it is today. Jon spoke of the company’s early days and the significance of holding the event at Oakes Ames Memorial Hall. His father, Donald Holbrook, started the company as a part-time venture in the family’s garage after arranging a loan with local banker, David Ames. While supporting his family on $100 a week at his full-time job, Donald bought several used screw machines and worked most nights until midnight. His wife, Marie Holbrook, took care of the ordering and receiving of tooling and raw materials and she handled deliveries, as well as the household. The company continues to operate on Elm Street in a 15,000 square foot

building just behind the garage where it began. Today, North Easton Machine employs twenty five staff and supplies precision machined components to a wide variety of industries and companies around the world. The company has been a member of the NTMA and involved in its Boston Chapter for twenty-seven of its fifty years.

North Easton Machine President, Jon Holbrook, cuts into the cake made to resemble a machine

tool as his wife, Lil, and mother, Marie, look on.

Why America CAN'T Go Metric! If America ever converted to metric, it would screw up everything we always took for truth! Such as:

If you give them a 2.5 centimeter they will take a 1.609 kilometers.

Twenty-eight grams of prevention is worth 453 grams of cure.

A miss is as good as 1.609 kilometers. Put your best 0.3 of a meter forward. Peter Piper picked 8.8 liters of pickled

peppers. Spare the 5.03 meter and spoil the child.

Did you ever taste a cup of Arbuckle Coffee? It was without question one of the best cups of coffee on the market at one time. But, the Arbuckle board of directors met in 1963 and decided their coffee was so superior that they drafted and ap-proved a policy to never spend a cent on advertising, and to keep the money for the stockholders. That's why today, there are very few people who remember Arbuckle Coffee. On the other hand.... a soft drink company made a policy decision to invest 2.5% of the profits from every bottle of soft drink sold, to advertising. You've heard of, and know, the successful company as Coca Cola.
