1 Dear Penguin Families, How do we begin to say thank you to our PTA and our parent volunteers for another wonderful year here at Prune Hill? We would not be the fabulous school we are without the partner- ships we have with you. The carnival was a success, with lots of happy kids and friendly conversations! Our volunteer assembly was run by our students, which is so appropriate as they begin to understand the ‘village’ that works so hard to provide a solid academic and social foundation for them to find success as they grow beyond Prune Hill penguins. As your kids transition to summer vacationers, try to get a book or two in their hands, limit their screen time, and increase their play time. They are exposed to so much more information at their age than we ever were! Get out the board games; let them fight over who gets to be Miss Scarlett in Clue or the little dog in Monopoly; play Kick-the- Can; teach them how to play Soli- taire, with real cards. Enjoy the sum- mer weather…is there any better place to be in the summer months that the Pacific NW? I’m certain to run into many of you around town or at the Camas Days Parade in July. Whether you are in town or out on vacation, on behalf of our entire Prune Hill staff, thank you for trusting us with your children for the 180 days of school. We wish you a safe and relaxing summer and look forward to seeing most of you back here in Sep- tember! The momentum and excitement in- creases here at Prune Hill as assem- blies, class projects, grade-level programs, and Field Day approach- es! Please watch for flyers, emails, newsletters and information written in your child’s planner to keep up to date on the many activities here at school. Here are a few upcoming events: Monday, June 16 at 6:00 p.m. we celebrate our 5th graders in the gym. Tuesday, June 17 is our last day of school. Dismissal is 10:50 am. Your child will not receive his/her report card on the last day of school. Instead, report cards will be mailed to your home. For kindergarteners, the last day of school is Monday, June 16. Camas Community Ed is now sponsoring academic support courses (as well as several great fun classes) for kids, including several taught by our own PHE staff. The Camas School District does not provide summer school. Check out the Commu- nity Ed website: http:schools.camas.wednet.edu/ communityed/. Camas Public Library is open through the summer and spon- sors a fun reading program for kids. Watch for flyers to come home in backpacks the last day of school (there will be a presen- tation at our last assembly on June 17 th ). If nothing else, en- couraging your kids to read over the summer is the best support to keep those reading skills moving in forward motion. SAVE THE DATE! We’ll kick of the 2014 school year Thursday, August 28 with our annual ‘Drop- In’ from 4:00-6:00 to meet and greet teachers, buy planners, and drop off school supplies. The first day of school is September 2nd! Sincerely, Julie Swan Principal 360-833-5730 phone 360-833-5731 fax 1601 NW Tidland St Camas, WA 98607 Prune Hill Penguin News June 2, 2014
