Professional Studies at Emerson College

Fall and spring are perfect times of the year to build your arts and communication skill set, and we’re happy once again to offer challenging Professional Studies courses designed to help you meet your professional and personal goals:

Brief Modules and WorkshopsStart small by selecting a workshop or module to test-drive a topic. For example, discover the value of copyediting and begin elevating the style and accuracy of your written work or the work of others right away. Learn to illustrate a graphic novel and start transforming your ideas into creative pieces. We offer several Professional Studies topic areas consisting of workshops of one, two, or more sessions.

Certificate ProgramsFollow one of our structured programs by enrolling in a certificate program. Some programs—Copyediting or Professional Communication—can be completed in one semester. Other programs such as Screenwriting, Digital Media Production, or Playwriting are progressive. Plan to register for the courses of progressive certificate programs in order, beginning in the fall and continuing in the spring. Our certificate programs have a flexible finish line: you have up to three years to complete the prescribed courses of your chosen certificate program.

FlexibilitySpeaking of flexibility, mix and match topic areas if you wish. Enrolling in Professional Studies courses means you may take individual courses from several different topic areas to gain a broad array of communication know-how. A professional certificate will be awarded to the individual who successfully completes all prescribed requirements of a certificate program (see inside back cover). Good news: you have the option of completing more than one certificate program if more than one topic area piques your interest.

We’re happy you’re considering enrolling in Professional Studies courses at Emerson College. We look forward to helping you advance your skills to achieve your goals in communication and the arts during the Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 semesters.
