They will get updated on the current LOTE curriculum and will identify Rigor and Relevance in Instruction. Participants will also provide their feedback on possible professional development opportunities for LOTE teachers.

Participants will focus on program planning, best practices, local/state/national initiatives, and curriculum revisions designed to enhance instructional programs. This meeting is recommended for all high school HPE department chairpersons.

CT0324 Special Populations- Career and Technical Education (CTE) Grades 9-12

Participating campus teams will utilize career planning tools to develop appropriate CTE student Plans of Study as well as review student scheduling procedures and CTE coding.

EdPlan e-TRAIN Course Title Course Description CU2411 EdPLan System Training Participants will gain familiarity of the EdPlan system. The course will consist of how to login and

navigate the system; learn to create test keys; create, administer, and scan assessments; and learn to run reports.

CU2471 EdPLan System Training Participants will learn about EdPlan reporting and how to use report filters to run reports on Benchmark and Formative Assessments including a student score report, item distribution analysis, student tutoring report, objective analysis, and more. Training will also cover the District Assessment drill down/dashboard that is displayed when users login to the system.

ELA/R Courses

e-TRAIN Course Title Course Description CU5588 Gr 6-12 LANGUAGE LIVE!

LAUNCH Participants will learn about the Six Steps of the LANGUAGE LIVE! program which will supplant LANGUAGE! books A and B and the version of LANGUAGE LIVE! used during 2013-2014 school year. LANGUAGE LIVE! includes an online component to teach decoding. Teachers will learn how to implement the program and practice lesson delivery. Teachers will become proficient in program assessments and planning.

CU5587 Gr 6-12 Language Live! Update Participants will learn about the new version of LANGUAGE LIVE! which is designed to meet to needs of students formerly placed into books A-D simultaneously in one program. Teachers will learn how to implement the program and practice lesson delivery. This course is for teachers who took the initial LANGUAGE LIVE! training during the 2013-2014 school year.

CU5492 Gr 6-9 Reading Initiative Basic Participants will also learn the necessities of critical reading and writing and how to assess students' skills and plan effective lessons to meet the needs of each student. This initial professional development is for teachers of grades 6, 7 and 9 who are working with students who are more than two years below grade level in reading. SPECIAL INSTRUCTION: Teachers are required to attend the initial 4-day training and complete the additional 30 hours of training, delivered through a combination of online and face-to-face beginning in August and ending in May of 2014.

CU5626 Gr 9-12 ELA College Prep Participants will receive training and information pertaining to the house bill 5 ELA college preparatory course. This includes curriculum and assessment information, as well as information pertaining to course requirements and guidelines.

CU5471 Grade 6-12 LANGUAGE! Launch Participants will learn the components of the LANGUAGE! program and the research that supports the curriculum. Participants will engage in lesson preparation and delivery, assessment administration and scoring, and data entry into VPORT. Participants will also explore ongoing assessments and options for differentiation.

ELA/R Courses e-TRAIN Course Title Course Description TT2673 Independent Reading in ELA Participants will be given concrete strategies to help struggling readers make meaning of text.

Participants examine reading techniques that address multiple genres and are geared specifically toward teenagers. In addition, this session shares structures to make independent reading meaningful, including resources for accountability, assessment, and investment in authentic reading tasks.

TT2674 Sign Posts Reading Strategies Participants will earn 6 pertinent reading strategies that will assist them in guiding their students through critical thinking, analyzing, and interpretation of text. Participants will learn how to use sign posts and anchor questions that will lead a student into being a thoughtful, purposeful, and independent reader.

TT2675 Text Study Design in 6-12 ELA Participants will design text study lessons to suit a variety of literary forms such as novels, short stories, poems, and multimedia that will move beyond end-of-chapter questions while increasing student engagement, rigor, and help create real world applications.

Intermediate Students Participants will be provided with leadership strategies to enhance the ESL instruction for Beginning & Intermediate ELL’s. This training will provide participants with methods to increase the academic achievement of the Beginning & Intermediate ELL student using “Best Practices” and the District curriculum.

ML0240 6-12 Sheltered Instruction Plus Participants will focuses on implementing the English Language Proficiency Standards, how to write language objectives, and using sentence stems to increase language development. Participants will gain tools for differentiating instruction for their ELL students.

ML0343 ELL Writing Strategies 6-12 Participants will explore writing strategies that promote aligned, rigorous, and engaging instruction for the Secondary ELL student which are designed from high-yield, research-based instructional strategies, and district initiatives.

ML0208 ESL Programs Gr 6-12 Participants will become familiar with the ESL programs that are provided by the Multilingual Department.

ML0195 ESL Reading Smart Participants will gain knowledge of the ESL Reading Smart Curriculum. Participants will also learn how to access creating classroom profiles, student progress reports, and charts measuring proficiency gains.

ML0238 Iowa ELL Identification Training Participants will be trained on the implementation of the new online Iowa test for ELL identification.

ML0166 Long-Term ELL Literacy 6-12 Participants will be provided with instructional training highlighting best practice strategies designed to support the literacy development of long term ELL students.

ML0192 New ELL Program Coordinators Participants will be presented with review program guidelines and assist school staff with meeting the compliance, programmatic and instructional needs of secondary ELL students.



ESL/ELL e-TRAIN Course Title Course Description ML0124 ONLINE: Cultural Awareness Participants will increase awareness of the social and cultural issues surrounding English Language Learners

along with some strategies to make them feel comfortable in school settings.

ML0126 ONLINE: PK-12 ESL Strategies This module is designed to provide detailed information regarding vocabulary instruction, the new state English Language Proficiency Standards, academic language proficiency as well as specific teaching strategies that middle and high school teachers can employ with English Language Learners.

ML0129 ONLINE: Sec Lang Acquisition This module presents basic second language learning research, ESL instructional levels, develops awareness of the language cycle and strategies to increase language skills and present general accommodations for LEP students.

ML0210 Part2 6-12 ESL Beginning & Intermediate Students

Participants will be provided with strategies to enhance the instruction for Beginning & Intermediate ELL’s. This training will provide participants with methods to increase the academic achievement of the Beginning & Intermediate ELL student using “Best Practice” strategies and the District curriculum. In addition, current information will be presented regarding trends and issues for the Beginning and Intermediate ELL students.

ML0209 Part2/ 6-12ESL Advanced & Transitional Students

Participants will be provided with strategies to enhance the instruction for Advanced & Transitional ELL’s. This training will provide participants with methods to increase the academic achievement of the Advanced & Transitional ELL student using “Best Practices” strategies and the District curriculum. In addition, current information will be presented regarding trends and issues for the higher level ELL students.

ML0010 TExES Review: ESL Exam #154 Participants will be trained to take the ESL Supplemental certification exam. Teachers who participate in the course training should register on the SBEC webpage for the TExES ESL Supplemental examination Test #154.



ESL/ELL e-TRAIN Course Title Course Description TT2670 Excellence Literacy Routines 1 Participants will learn how to apply the "Pen/cil to Paper" and "Let's Talk" literacy routines in their

classrooms. The session focuses on creating informal writing opportunities as well as accountable student discourse.

TT2671 Excellence Literacy Routines 2 Participants will learn how to apply the "Pump Up The Vocab" and "Be the Lead Reader" literacy routines in their classrooms. The session focuses on utilizing a systematic approach to vocabulary building and creating purposeful reading opportunities and scaffolds as students encounter new or difficult text.

TT2672 Excellence Literacy Routines 3 Participants will learn how to apply the "Do I Really Get It?" and "Turn the Light On" literacy routines in their classrooms. The session focuses on providing the necessary scaffolds to deliver a lesson with comprehensible input. In addition, participants will explore methods of checking for student understanding.


Fine Arts

Fine Arts e-TRAIN Course Title Course Description CU2585 K-8 Arts Access Initiative Participants will explore creative ways to connect Art, Dance, Music and Theatre with core

foundation disciplines. Subject to availability, staff from participating campuses in the Arts Access Initiative will be given priority complimentary admissions. A limited number of complimentary admissions are available for other teachers and they will be notified of their registration status on September 2, 2014.

CU5329 Fall Marching Band Festival Participants will plan, collaborate and prepare for the Marching Band Festival and upcoming events. Current events and best practices will be shared.


Gifted and Talented

Gifted and Talented e-TRAIN Course Title Course Description TT4190 Beyond Projects 6-12 G/T Participants will effectively plan and execute both projects and/or problem-based experiences for

their students as they work toward a culminating performance or exhibit. From theory to final product, how to backward plan for a satisfying learning experience.

TT4123 Differentiation: Using Tech Tools 6-12 GT

Participants will be introduced to web tools that can be used for differentiation to meet the needs of their students. Tech Tools will include those used for visualization, collaboration and content sharing which allows students to create products not otherwise available or possible in the traditional pencil and paper classroom. Teachers will learn collaboration and sharing strategies for colleagues. TAGT approved.

TT4604 G/T - Gr 6-12 Teachers (12 hrs) Participants will gain knowledge into the revised HISD G/T Curriculum Framework, "Scholars and Knowledge", and TAGT areas: Day 1: Nature and Needs - 6hrs, Day 2: Identification and Assessment - 6hrs. Participants must attend both 6.0 hour sessions/days to receive credit.

TT4188 Social and Emotional K-12 G/T Participants will be provided with strategies that will assist G/T students with Social and Emotional Needs K-12. Participants will better understand social and emotional needs, identify characteristics that influence social and emotional development and gain strategies to support the varied needs of the gifted learner.

EL2037 G/T DI: Adapt Depth/Pace/Delivery

In this ONLINE course participants will learn how to adapt depth, pace, and delivery mode of what is taught in a lesson to allow students to access the lesson at multiple levels of challenge. This module is aligned to I-3 of the Instructional Practice Rubric. TAGT approved.

EL2039 G/T DI: Flexible Grouping In this ONLINE course participants will learn how to strategically utilize flexible instructional groups and varied interactional arrangement that are appropriate to the students and the instructional purposes of the lesson. EL2002 ONLINE: G/T - Gr.6-12 (30 hrs) In this online course, participants will gain knowledge into the revised HISD G/T Curriculum Framework, "Scholars and Knowledge" and the five TAGT areas: (Day One) Nature and Needs (6 hrs) (Day Two) Identification and Assessment (6 hrs), (Days One-Four) Social and Emotional Needs (1.5 hrs), (Day Three) Creativity (6 hrs), and (Day Four) Differentiated Instruction (6 hrs). Participants must attend all four days.

EL0027 ONLINE: G/T Gr 6-12 (12 Hrs) In this online course, participants will be trained on the revised HISD G/T Curriculum Framework, "Scholars and Knowledge", and TAGT areas, Nature and Needs: 6 hours, and Identification and Assessment: 6 hours.

EL4000 ONLINE: G/T Scholars Knowledge

In this online, TAGT approved course, participants will be introduced to the revised HISD G/T Curriculum Framework "Scholars and Knowledge." The training includes student inventories, curriculum compacting, differentiated instructional strategies, depth and complexity, rigor and relevance, research skills utilizing TEA's Texas Performance Standards Project, and advanced level product development.


Health and Physical Education

Health and Physical Education e-TRAIN Course Title Course Description CU5393 HPE 9-12 PaPA Training Participants will gain an understanding of the Parent and Paternity Awareness Program that must

be used in the high school health curriculum. P.a.P.A. is an innovative educational curriculum designed for secondary school students and young adults that deals with “rights, responsibilities, and realities of parenting” and is in compliance with the legislative mandate of HB2176.

CU5586 Gr 9-12 Health Champions Participants receive training on developing campus action plans for the Project Houston’s Challenge: Saving Our Future to promote adolescent sexual health through school-based HIV/STED teen Pregnancy Prevention Program. This interactive training will address each approach of the grant, for completing the action plans.

CU5628 PK-12 HPE Lead Teachers Participants will collaborate with HPE Department to conduct instructional meetings throughout the year focusing on rigor, standards-based instruction, assessments, curriculum implementation, and revisions. SE2073 Standards Based IEP Participant will demonstrate understanding of the following: how the FIE drives the IEP process, how to analyze the FIE and determine what skills deficits exist, how to write goals and objectives that are not disability specific and how to align goals and objectives to grade level standards.

SE2081 Standards Based Follow-Up Participants will be provided with opportunities to receive additional training, ask clarifying questions, and participate in hands-on application activities which supplement previously learned content.

Review 360 Participants will learn how to implement the classroom level management system (LMS) using the Review 360 web-based program to assist students with behavior challenges to return to less restrictive settings.

SE0249 CPI Overview Participants will receive Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) training to develop prevention and de-escalation techniques and alternatives to restraint. This course is for new crisis team members and campus staff who have or may have to implement the restraining procedures for students with disabilities.

SE2080 Unique Learning Systems Participants will learn about this web-based curriculum that supports the specialized learning needs of students with severe multiple disabilities including cognitive impairments. The connection to assessment and technology supports will be included.

SE2046 Imagine Learning Participants will learn the administrative and educational functions included within the Imagine Learning Systems. The Imagine Learning System provides an array of computer-based instructional content and enrichment activities along with reports demonstrating student and class progress.

SE2053 Thursday Think Tank Participants will receive targeted assistance, share instructional and behavioral strategies, and problem solve. These sessions also support the implementation of Unique Learning system and Every Move Counts for SLL and PSi teachers.

New Teacher Hire –Teacher Appraisal and Development System (TADS)

Training Registration INSTRUCTIONS TADS Training for New Teacher Hires is available Online on HISD eLearn

All new teacher employees are required to complete HISD Teacher Appraisal and Development System (TADS) training within five instructional days from their start date. Teachers must have an HISD employee ID number and network ID to self-enroll in eLearn. Because TADS is a mandatory training requirement of employment, appraisers may provide dedicated time during the teacher work day to complete the online course (which requires approximately four hours to complete.)

New Teacher Hires should self-register in the Teacher Appraisal and Development System (TADS) training course on HISD eLearn. 1. Log in to https://hisdelearn.org/ with your HISD username (your HISD email prefix). Click "Forgot your password?" to create a new one. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AN HISD eLEARN PASSWORD, click on “Forgot your password?”

2. Log in to HISD eLearn and click on “Self Registration.”

Use your HISD email prefix to log in to eLearn.

Click on the Self-Registration button.

3. Choose “Course Offering Code – EL1604, Course Offering Name – Teacher Appraisal and Development System (TADS).”

4. Click on the register button.

5. Complete the required fields and click on Submit. On the next screen click Finish and on the following screen click Done.

Scroll down to find the course EL1604 and pick the first date available, even if it

is a date that has already passed.

Click on the Register button.

Complete the required fields and the click on the Submit button. On the next screen click the Finish button. On the following screen click Done.

6. Clicking Done on the previous screen takes you to the eLearn home page. In the top left corner, click “Select a Course” to see the dropdown menu. Find the course you registered for and begin.

7. You will be able to begin the course immediately by clicking on the “Start” button.

PLEASE NOTE: You will have five instructional days to complete the course. After the 5th day from the course start date, the course will close. When you complete the course, the Course Completion Verification Quiz acknowledges the successful completion of the Teacher Appraisal & Development System (TADS) training. You will know you have successfully submitted the verification quiz when you see the verification screen with your name. Please print this screen as your verification of completion to keep for your records and to submit to your appraiser. Within two weeks, your course completion will be posted to eTRAIN and you will receive an automated email confirming that you have completed the course. Your appraiser may check your eTRAIN transcript to verify completion. *PLEASE NOTE – You will not receive a certificate of completion.
