EdPlan e-TRAIN Course Title Course Description CU2411 EdPLan System Training Participants will gain familiarity of the EdPlan system. The course will consist of how to login and

navigate the system; learn to create test keys; create, administer, and scan assessments; and learn to run reports.

CU2471 EdPLan System Training Participants will learn about EdPlan reporting and how to use report filters to run reports on Benchmark and Formative Assessments including a student score report, item distribution analysis, student tutoring report, objective analysis, and more. Training will also cover the District Assessment drill down/dashboard that is displayed when users login to the system.

e-TRAIN Course Title Course Description CU5588 Gr 6-12 LANGUAGE LIVE!

LAUNCH Participants will learn about the Six Steps of the LANGUAGE LIVE! program which will supplant LANGUAGE! books A and B and the version of LANGUAGE LIVE! used during 2013-2014 school year. LANGUAGE LIVE! includes an online component to teach decoding. Teachers will learn how to implement the program and practice lesson delivery. Teachers will become proficient in program assessments and planning.

CU5587 Gr 6-12 Language Live! Update Participants will learn about the new version of LANGUAGE LIVE! which is designed to meet to needs of students formerly placed into books A-D simultaneously in one program. Teachers will learn how to implement the program and practice lesson delivery. This course is for teachers who took the initial LANGUAGE LIVE! training during the 2013-2014 school year.

CU5492 Gr 6-9 Reading Initiative Basic Participants will also learn the necessities of critical reading and writing and how to assess students' skills and plan effective lessons to meet the needs of each student. This initial professional development is for teachers of grades 6, 7 and 9 who are working with students who are more than two years below grade level in reading. SPECIAL INSTRUCTION: Teachers are required to attend the initial 4-day training and complete the additional 30 hours of training, delivered through a combination of online and face-to-face beginning in August and ending in May of 2014.

CU5626 Gr 9-12 ELA College Prep Participants will receive training and information pertaining to the house bill 5 ELA college preparatory course. This includes curriculum and assessment information, as well as information pertaining to course requirements and guidelines.

CU5471 Grade 6-12 LANGUAGE! Launch Participants will learn the components of the LANGUAGE! program and the research that supports the curriculum. Participants will engage in lesson preparation and delivery, assessment administration and scoring, and data entry into VPORT. Participants will also explore ongoing assessments and options for differentiation.

Participants examine reading techniques that address multiple genres and are geared specifically toward teenagers. In addition, this session shares structures to make independent reading meaningful, including resources for accountability, assessment, and investment in authentic reading tasks.

TT2674 Sign Posts Reading Strategies Participants will earn 6 pertinent reading strategies that will assist them in guiding their students through critical thinking, analyzing, and interpretation of text. Participants will learn how to use sign posts and anchor questions that will lead a student into being a thoughtful, purposeful, and independent reader.

TT2675 Text Study Design in 6-12 ELA Participants will design text study lessons to suit a variety of literary forms such as novels, short stories, poems, and multimedia that will move beyond end-of-chapter questions while increasing student engagement, rigor, and help create real world applications.

Intermediate Students Participants will be provided with leadership strategies to enhance the ESL instruction for Beginning & Intermediate ELL’s. This training will provide participants with methods to increase the academic achievement of the Beginning & Intermediate ELL student using “Best Practices” and the District curriculum.

ML0240 6-12 Sheltered Instruction Plus Participants will focuses on implementing the English Language Proficiency Standards, how to write language objectives, and using sentence stems to increase language development. Participants will gain tools for differentiating instruction for their ELL students.

ML0343 ELL Writing Strategies 6-12 Participants will explore writing strategies that promote aligned, rigorous, and engaging instruction for the Secondary ELL student which are designed from high-yield, research-based instructional strategies, and district initiatives.

ML0208 ESL Programs Gr 6-12 Participants will become familiar with the ESL programs that are provided by the Multilingual Department.

ML0195 ESL Reading Smart Participants will gain knowledge of the ESL Reading Smart Curriculum. Participants will also learn how to access creating classroom profiles, student progress reports, and charts measuring proficiency gains.

ML0238 Iowa ELL Identification Training Participants will be trained on the implementation of the new online Iowa test for ELL identification.

ML0166 Long-Term ELL Literacy 6-12 Participants will be provided with instructional training highlighting best practice strategies designed to support the literacy development of long term ELL students.

ML0192 New ELL Program Coordinators Participants will be presented with review program guidelines and assist school staff with meeting the compliance, programmatic and instructional needs of secondary ELL students.

ML0126 ONLINE: PK-12 ESL Strategies This module is designed to provide detailed information regarding vocabulary instruction, the new state English Language Proficiency Standards, academic language proficiency as well as specific teaching strategies that middle and high school teachers can employ with English Language Learners.

ML0129 ONLINE: Sec Lang Acquisition This module presents basic second language learning research, ESL instructional levels, develops awareness of the language cycle and strategies to increase language skills and present general accommodations for LEP students.

ML0210 Part2 6-12 ESL Beginning & Intermediate Students

Participants will be provided with strategies to enhance the instruction for Beginning & Intermediate ELL’s. This training will provide participants with methods to increase the academic achievement of the Beginning & Intermediate ELL student using “Best Practice” strategies and the District curriculum. In addition, current information will be presented regarding trends and issues for the Beginning and Intermediate ELL students.

ML0209 Part2/ 6-12ESL Advanced & Transitional Students

Participants will be provided with strategies to enhance the instruction for Advanced & Transitional ELL’s. This training will provide participants with methods to increase the academic achievement of the Advanced & Transitional ELL student using “Best Practices” strategies and the District curriculum. In addition, current information will be presented regarding trends and issues for the higher level ELL students.

ML0010 TExES Review: ESL Exam #154 Participants will be trained to take the ESL Supplemental certification exam. Teachers who participate in the course training should register on the SBEC webpage for the TExES ESL Supplemental examination Test #154.

ESL/ELL e-TRAIN Course Title Course Description TT2670 Excellence Literacy Routines 1 Participants will learn how to apply the "Pen/cil to Paper" and "Let's Talk" literacy routines in their

classrooms. The session focuses on creating informal writing opportunities as well as accountable student discourse.

TT2671 Excellence Literacy Routines 2 Participants will learn how to apply the "Pump Up The Vocab" and "Be the Lead Reader" literacy routines in their classrooms. Training Registration INSTRUCTIONS TADS Training for New Teacher Hires is available Online on HISD eLearn

All new teacher employees are required to complete HISD Teacher Appraisal and Development System (TADS) training within five instructional days from their start date. Teachers must have an HISD employee ID number and network ID to self-enroll in eLearn. Because TADS is a mandatory training requirement of employment, appraisers may provide dedicated time during the teacher work day to complete the online course (which requires approximately four hours to complete.)

New Teacher Hires should self-register in the Teacher Appraisal and Development System (TADS) training course on HISD eLearn. 1. Log in to https://hisdelearn.org/ with your HISD username (your HISD email prefix). Click "Forgot your password?" to create a new one. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AN HISD eLEARN PASSWORD, click on “Forgot your password?”

2. Log in to HISD eLearn and click on “Self Registration.”

Use your HISD email prefix to log in to eLearn.
