Professional Education -Time to Revamp? The market place is getting meaner and the economic situations are much more dynamic than ever.Uncertainty prevails across the Globe and the Market Pundits are unable to predict the near future...Bell weather companies who predicted general market outlook quite accurately in the past fail verybadly and are not sure about their own quarterly performance.

Hiring has stopped in most Organizations and those that want to hire need only experiencedcandidates who can contribute almost immediately and jump start their jobs.In this kind of scenario, its imperative that we relook and revisit our education programmes and thecurriculum that is being followed. This applies especially to the professional colleges -Engineering and Business Managementcolleges that are in the process of producing Engineers and Managers. The Colleges do have bright young students who eagerly look forward to a successful career. They however face harsh realities when they do not get hired for several reasons. Those that eventually do get hired find themselves in a piquant situation and frustrated when theyface the rather hard truth that they have do not have any semblance of the related experience thatthe hiring companies needed. There is a huge gap in the market expectations and the course curriculum of mostUniversities and Colleges.

Universities and Colleges need to incorporate at least 10 months of practical job experience. This must be ideally in the final year of their college much like the students of Medical collegeswho necessarily go through the rigors of an internship in a Hospital for obvious reasons-theydeal with human lives.

Organizations must align with Universities and Colleges to create programs to ensure that thestudents do get a practical exposure of the market place.Students can opt for pointed roles within Organizations -HR, Sales, Advertising, P.R, Consulting:Manufacturing, Maintenance, Safety, Etc.Organizations and Universities need to come together, ideate, strategize a way forward that willensure...-the students are better prepared to manage the complexities associated with a new career-Organizations that hire the fresh recruits out of colleges get useful inputs from these new recruitsearly.-Job Opportunities obviously improves-Role fitment gets better as the new joinees have a 10 month experience in the related field.-New recruits can contribute better as they do have a related exposure and experience.-Job satisfaction gets better as the new recruits begin to contribute early and get recognized.-Manpower retention within Organization s gets better.- A win win situation for both partiesIts time we look at the ground realities and adapt to the changing times rather than have hundreds

of disillusioned and unhappy young pass outs.

Needless to say, spare a thought to the anxious parents who have invested their hard earned money

    on their children's careers.
