Fear not:…...to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord.

THOUGHTS FROM PASTOR BRAD 10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I
bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all
people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of
David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
LUKE 2:10-11 KJV
It’s natural to be afraid. All of us have fears that exist,
whether we are willing to admit them or not. It’s natural
to be scared, especially when something unexpected
happens, like a rabbit running out from the garden or
someone walking into the room when you thought you
were home alone or you are tending to your sheep and
a multitude of angels appear in the sky.
It’s also easy to tell other people to not be afraid, to not
be scared but it wasn’t them being frightened by rabbits
or unannounced people or multitudes of angels.
We also can be fearful when events keep getting
rescheduled or we don’t know when we might get to
see our loved ones again or we aren’t sure if our world
will ever fully recover from this pandemic. Even if our
fears don’t seem justified, they are still very real to us.
Fear is a very real thing for all of us and our fears are as
varied as we are.
This Advent season we are going to be exploring the
theme of “FEAR NOT!” as we hear the story of
Zechariah and Elizabeth, the angel visiting Mary to tell
her she was chosen by God and the meeting of
Elizabeth and Mary. Each story will talk about the fear
that exists for them and how they all were reminded
there was nothing to fear because God was present in
the midst of it all. They had been chosen by God and
God promised that nothing was impossible.
If you are like me, it’s easy to get discouraged, fearful
and flat-out exhausted. It’s easy to get caught up in the
chaos of the world around us and forget that God is
encouraging us to slow down and recognize all of the
good that is happening right in front of us.
The word “Advent” is Latin for “to come” or “coming”.
During this season we are reminded to prepare
ourselves for Christ’s arrival and what it means for us
today.
During this season of Advent in 2020 you no doubt will
have new challenges and new fears that you’ve not
experienced before. I encourage you to greet them with
the idea that you don’t encounter them alone but with
God beside you and a community supporting you.
Fear not, Beloved, for Christ is with you.
Shalom,
COME WORSHIP WITH US!

CURATOR OF YOUTH AND FAMILY MINISTRIES
FAMILY TIES
Family Ties is a group of families that love parenting but find it to be even more rewarding with faith, friends, fun, and of course food. The group is open to families young and old, big and small, many or just one. After all, we are all family at Peace. If you are interested in being included in our events and want to join our mailing list, please sign up with Nicki. If you have any questions or would like further information, please see Nicki. Adventures in Advent
Do you have your wreath ready to light?
Advent is just getting started, you are not too late! Sunday, November 29th was the start of Advent. We are now living in the “In-Between”, focusing on what it’s like to live in that moment before The Moment (the birth of Christ).
The Advent wreath has become a popular way to count down the days of the in-between. Did you know that we have Martin Luther to thank for the wreath? He recommended its use as a way to educate children of his day. People used wreaths as an Advent decoration long before Luther, but Luther used the wreath as a Christian-education device and thus popularized it.
Sign up with Nicki for your 2020 Wreath kit. The kits will be delivered as soon as possible after ordering. Contact Nicki, [email protected].
This activity is for anyone, not just those with families or already a part of the youth and families ministries.
Advent Together Newsletter
During Advent, we are invited to wait and prepare for the arrival of baby Jesus. Each week of Advent I will send out a mailing and create a social media post with a ready-made Adventures in Advent newsletter. Each newsletter will help your families get ready by learning, creating, serving, and exploring together. The activities in the newsletters will encourage the families to spend intentional time together this Advent season. Watch your inbox and our Facebook page for more information towards the end of the month.
Join Us LIVE Sparks Activate Faith opportunity each Sunday evening: Faith Together at Home is a series that will include weekly at-home readings of a Bible story from the Sparks story Bible.
Each week Nicki M. will host a Facebook live event to read and discuss the story. This new series will work best with your help. Making it as interactive as possible you will have an opportunity to chat with Nicki and other friends of our church family. Weekly readings will follow the lectionary series of the Gospel and Old Testament readings.
Grab your Sparks story Bible and tune in every Sunday evening starting at 7:00pm.

Confirmation Prayer Partner Meet Up 12/9 @ 6:00 *Note Earlier Time*
I didn't think this would be happening due to COVID
and cold winter nights, so I am super excited to share
this chance to meet up with your prayer partner. Sadly,
the annual Spud Feed event will not be taking place
this year because of the aforementioned COVID.
In lieu of this event the church will be hosting a night of
caroling. Since we are not singing indoors at this time,
Heather Miller and Sommer Johnson-Loar will be
organizing a simple outside gathering in the large
parking lot on 8th and Minnesota. Bring a chair, some
blankets to cover up with, and your singing voice so we
can sing carols together. More details will be released
as planning is only in the beginning stages.
This is a Wednesday night event so confirmation
students are asked to attend as part of their studies
for the week. What a great opportunity to meet up with
you Prayer Partner, pray and share some holiday spirit
(singing encouraged but not required) .
Christmas Party 12/13 @ 5:30
The Christmas party is usually my favorite part of our
year up to this point. I am so sad that it will not be able
to continue in normal fashion this year. Such are things
in 2020 though.
Trying to keep some things festive, I am planning on
going ALL OUT for a virtual Christmas party! Please join
me on Sunday December 13th at 5:30 for games, food
and fun! We will also take some time to pay it forward
with a small service project. In order to plan,
coordinate and deliver all supplies please let me know
if you plan on attending. I will make my deliveries for all
necessary items on Saturday the 12th

Sunday School continues now online
Thank you to all of those who participated either through our live event or through the posted video for the on-your-schedule option. It was a blessing to see the smiles on the kids faces.
Our special Journey to the Cross study started 11/29. Join us each Sunday leading up to Christmas for a special look at those who were there and a part of the story.
If you have not tuned in, it is never too late to start! Watch the Zoom link on our Facebook page or email Nicki to make sure you are on our class list for the weekly email. Materials each week are minimal and if they ever require something more than what typically is found at home a care package will be provided.
How to participate
Our live version is on Sunday morning at 10:00am. A live link is emailed out and posted on Peace’s Facebook page
A pre-recorded option is uploaded to Facebook as well as emailed out Tuesday mornings through the Peace email blast! If you are watching on Facebook, please leave a comment to say hello so we know you are there. Love the feedback and connection.

CURATOR OF CONGREGATIONAL LIFE
SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE LUNCHES
In an effort to give our church family a safe way to see each
other and to work against feelings of isolation, Heather and
Kim have started what is called Socially Responsible
Lunches.
Lunches have only 5 guests at attendance who each arrive
wearing a mask. They sanitize their hands upon arrival. They
are seated at tables greater than 6 feet apart.
We take a quick afternoon to be present with each other,
enjoy a light lunch, and do something to break the
monotony of life in a pandemic.
It may be hard to make out the people in the photo, we were
spaced so far apart from each other it was hard to capture
faces!

OFFICE HOURS
Fall, Winter, Spring
Monday - Thursday 8 AM to 3 PM
Friday 8 AM to 12 PM
Summer will have more limited hours.
The church front office door has been
updated to reflect the new office hours and
to clean up the old letters that were
beginning to crumble and flake off due to
aging in the sun.
THE ROOF IS BEING REPLACED
All of the staff and the tenants of the
Peace Parish Center are eagerly looking
forward to the completion of the roof
replacement.
Leaky joints, wrecked paint and drywall,
wet carpeting and ruined books and
educational materials should be a thing
of the past once this project is complete!

CURATOR OF CONGREGATIONAL LIFE
THE GARDEN CLUB
We’re not done yet! We are
quickly wrapping up our year by
raking leaves and trimming
down dead foliage. If you have
watched our progress outside
as you visit the grounds or if you
have read our updates in the
newsletter and have become
interested, please know you can reach out to Kathi
Sawall at any time this year to join our group. We are
grateful for all extra hands and we sure do enjoy the
time that we work together outside. We may not be
professional groundskeepers, but we certainly take
pride in our church and the relationships we are
forging.
MORE PROGRESS IN THE FIRESIDE ROOM
On November 14th, the
first of two tables were
completed and installed in
the Fireside Room. These
tables are made to fit in
front of the large windows.
They are perfect for sitting
to eat while watching the
world outside or holding
your coffee cup and
laptop during a meeting.
You may be able to pick
out that the design on the
sides of the table is a
replica of the tile pattern
that was painted over
when the tiled columns
were updated..
These tables were
designed, built and
installed by Travis Miller.

MEMORIAL/CELEBRATION FLOWER CALENDAR
The 2021 Memorial and Celebration Flower Calendar is
available in the church narthex. Please remember, you
have the option to purchase real flowers OR you can
donate your funds to the Garden Team and a beautiful silk
arrangement will be put on display.
Either option will honor your memorial and celebration in
the church’s newsletter, announcement slides, and email
blast.
If you are not able to sign up in person, please call the
church office and let Kim know which Sunday you would
like.
THE GYM IS ACTIVELY BEING RENTED
A quick update to report that the Peace Parish Gym
is actively being rented 5 days a week at this time to
multiple basketball clubs who are conscientiously
meeting in small groups, wearing masks, to exercise
and practice their skills. As hoped, the church is well
on their way to recover its investment in the
upgrades that have taken place in the gym.
THRIVENT ACTON TEAM
Did you know that if you invest with Thrivent, as one of
their members you can activate funds allocated by
Thrivent to do good things within our community? You can
get funding for a service activity, fund raiser or an
educational event. If you are a member and interested in
activating these accounts, you can reach out to Heather
Miller, Curator of Congregational Life and she will help you
brainstorm what PLC can do with the funds you are
entitled to.
Thank you to Steve Berholtz for reaching out to work with
Care of Congregation. Steve was able to secure $250 from
Thrivent for the Holiday Bag Project for our homebound
church members.
HOLIDAY BAGS FOR HOMEBOUND
CHURCH FAMILY MEMBERS
The Care of Congregation Team will
be putting together another
Sunshine Bag for our homebound
members. As it will be delivered
close to Christmas, this bag will
have a strong Holiday theme to it.

NO SPUDFEED 2020 BUT JOIN US AS WE CAROL OUTSIDE
We typically have a great Spudfeed Dinner on the second
Wednesday of December to celebrate the anniversary of
The Little Free Pantry. This year, out of an abundance of
caution, PLC will not be hosting any large dinners. However,
as it is still a special anniversary, we would like to do
something to mark this milestone.
Since we are not singing indoors at this time, Heather
Miller and Sommer Johnson-Loar will be organizing a
simple outside gathering in the large parking lot on 8th and
Minnesota. Bring a chair, some blankets to cover up with,
and your singing voice so we can sing carols together.
Hot Chocolate will be served.

PEACE CHRISTIAN PRESCHOOL
PRESCHOOL LOOKS DIFFERENT
There is a different look to the preschool program this year.
While we have had to make a lot of changes to the program,
we are still doing well and happy to be doing what we do.
Our 3K program meets in-person. All adults wear masks all the time. Children are required to wear their
mask anytime they are outside of their classroom.
The 4K classes are all virtual at this time. Teachers meet online with their children in small groups and
one on one.
It may not be ideal, but it’s what we do to keep our children safe.
OCM CARDS
The preschool has 100 OCM cards to sell. We
depend on this fundraiser to make important
improvements to our program.
We recognize that there are a great number of
people who are not dining out at this time, but we
hope that some time in 2021 our social routines
will regain some normalcy. By purchasing an OCM
card from the preschool you help multiple
programs at one time. First, you help the
preschool as we earn $4 for every card that we
sell. Second, you help the Oshkosh Community
Media as they also earn funds from the cards.
Finally, you are helping the local business that
you patronize when you use the cards. That’s four
wins when you include yourself for getting to
enjoy a local business’s service! Please consider
purchasing an OCM from the preschool this year!

Heidi leads her children from their classroom up to the church’s
sanctuary for Chapel Time with Ms. Nicki—and sometimes Ms.
Nicki’s tagalong, PJ.
Ms. Nicki has been teaching these young children to “Love God
with all your heart, with all your mind, and with all your soul.”
The lessons are simple, but the seed is being planted.

MEMBER INFORMATION ADVENT DEVOTIONS This Advent season, several staff members of Peace
Lutheran wrote devotions that we will be sharing with
our church community in written format and with the
greater church in video format. Each day, starting on
November 29th, we will share a daily video devotion on
our Peace Facebook page and on our website. The
devotions will also be available in written form for the
church community.
ADVENT 2020 Our Advent theme this year is “Fear Not!” and we will be
focusing on the idea that while it makes sense to be
afraid in our head, God is reminding us that we have
nothing to fear. We will be working through the first
chapter of Luke as we prepare for the arrival of the
Christ child, the one who will truly bring us peace.
We will be having services each Wednesday evening
where we will focus on a reading from Isaiah and then
each Sunday in Advent will be focused on Luke. Please
make plans to join us Wednesday evenings at 5:30 pm
and Sunday mornings either at 8:00 am for Facebook
Live or 9:00 am in person with the service also
livestreamed to our website and Facebook page.
CHRISTMAS EVE/DAY SERVICES On the next page (15) you will find a
letter talking about how we are
approaching Christmas Eve, Christmas
Day and the 1st Sunday after Christmas.
In early December we will be sending out
more information about those specific
services in a separate mailing. Please
know that our staff and volunteers are
working on creating the best services possible in the
midst of this unimaginable year. We are thankful for
your patience and understanding.

BIBLE VERSE CHALLENGE
Advent is a time of anticipation and preparation. We anticipate
the birth of Jesus Christ and prepare our hearts to accept him as
our Lord and Savior. The Bible verses below are taken from the
readings for the four Sundays in Advent. In them, God tells us
that Jesus truly is His son and that both our anticipation and
preparation are justified.
Pick one verse you find especially meaningful, and commit it to
memory. Use it as a reminder of why we celebrate Advent each
year.
