VYSOKÉ TATRY – HIGH TATRAS

• The smallest alpina mountine range in the world (area 341km2)

• Formed by hundreds of rocky peaks and towers, deep valleys, torrents with waterfalls

• Rare fauna and flora• Good climatic conditions• Offer tourist excellent conditions for alpine

trekking, climbing, downhill, cycling, horse riding, adrenaline sports

Štrbské Pleso - Štrbské Mountain-lake

• The higest situated settlements • Štrba rack railway was built in 1876• A tourist and sanatory settlement • The first cottage was built there in 1872• After the World War 2 hotels were used as

asthma sanatoria.• In 1970 are the Winter Ski Championship• In 1976 a modern sanatory house Helios was

open to public.

Museum of the TANAP

• exhibits describing the region's natural history, history and ethnography.

• Botanic garden• Founded in 1957• the character of the mountains' environment• natural history - the geology, flora and fauna

of the region• showing customs, arts and history.

Skalnaté pelso - Rocky Mountain-Lake

• is situated in Skalnatá dolina (Skalnatá Valley) under southern slopes of the Lomnický Peak

Gerlachovský štít - Gerlach Peak

• the highest peak in the High Tatras, in Slovakia• 2,655 metres• it has played a symbolic role• between the 19th and mid-20th century, it had

four different names with six name reversals• Only members of a national UIAA club are

allowed to climb the peak on their own• The best season for climbing is mid September

to mid October or until the snow falls
