class of the family.

The main purpose of school :

The main purpose of education was

to teach children appropriate

behaviour for their social class

Make the kids useful members of

the society

Students were taught latin

because :

Students were expected to become

proficient in Latin, as it was the

language of the educated

throughout Europe

Girls from rich families were

educated in :

Daughters of the nobility, and among

the puritans, formal schooling for girls

was not encouraged. For those who

were educated, subjets focused

mainly on encouraging chastity and

developing skills of housewifery.
