As I write this, we have finished the second paint-in for

the poinsettia projects. What a lovely way to spend the

day; listening to the rain and painting poinsettias. As I

look at the finished pieces, they are all so beautiful and

each is unique. I got so tired on one of the paint-ins, I

spelled my name wrong as I signed the finished piece. I

guess that’s when you know its time to pack up and paint

again another day.

I want to thank all you wonderful painters that are work-

ing on the quilt and on the convention table decorations.

We will definitely take tickets and pictures for the mar-

ketplace in Wichita. I selfishly want someone in our

chapter to buy the winning ticket for the quilt, but a fund-

raiser is a fundraiser so we need to share the opportunity.

We had lots of fun at the March meeting. Have you fin-

ished your apron? And those green costumes. What

wonderful creative imaginations you all have. I can

hardly wait for the next meeting in April to see the Easter

baskets and bonnets. If you would like to donate your

basket to the Tender Life children, let Terrie know. She

is investigating to see how many children might want

them.

See you on the 11th of April!

Christmas Luncheon

RECIPE BOX

Unbelievably Good and Easy Cookies This is so simple, you won't believe how good they are! 1/4 cup butter or margarine 1 8 oz pkg. cream cheese (I used the 1/3 less fat variety) 1 egg 1/2 tsp. vanilla 1 (18.5 oz) box devils food cake mix Cream butter and cream cheese, blend in egg and vanilla. Add dry cake mix about 1/3 at a time mixing well after each addi-tion. Chill 30 minutes. Drop by scant teaspoons onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. makes 6 to 8 dozen. Makes a good soft cookie. Use any flavor cake mix, roll dough in waxed paper before putting in fridge and just slice off little hunks instead of making spoonfuls, use parchment baking paper on the cookie sheet.... they won't stick and there is no messy pan to wash!

You may ask: What does a health tip have to do with an artist? It’s

what we do the most while painting. We sit for prolonged periods of

time and that is not good for us. We need to do things differently so we

can feel better and have energy to have the inspiration to create.

By sitting so long at a time it can create. . .

Sore shoulders

Lower back pain

Neck strain which can cause headaches and tension to the shoul-

ders.

Sitting for so long decreases some of the circulation to the lower

legs and feet and can cause swelling.

If you have an injury or ailment it requires blood supply to heal, so

prolonged sitting reduces circulation and delays healing.

Try to take a deep breath while leaning forward painting. Your

breathing becomes shallow which decreases the oxygen to the brain

and extremities.

There is an easy fix! Something very simple! It’s fast, it’s easy, and it’s free….just stand up

more and do a few stretches. Standing will also give you another perspective or view of your art

work and you may see that you need to add a little more highlight to an area or something

needs to be toned down. Move your painting to different rooms and view it in different lighting.

That can really give you a better feeling whether your values and intensities are correct.

Here are a few easy stretches that should be done slowly:

1. Stretch your arms to the sky and wiggle your fingers.

2. Roll your shoulders in a circle clockwise and then counter clockwise.

3. Look to the right then look to the left. Look up and then down. Take your right ear to your

right shoulder then your left ear to your left shoulder. Please do not roll your neck in a circular

motion or that could cause other problems.

4. As you are standing shake one leg and then the other. This will help to get the blood to flow

to the lower extremities.

The breaks we take don’t have to be long but they do have to be frequent to have an impact. If

you are a teacher, you might consider having your students stand up every so often. This will

help to keep them energized and not feel so tired when the class is over.

So let’s make it a point to separate ourselves from our chair throughout the day and stand up

and stretch. You’ll feel much better!

Meet Bella, owner Cindy Worthy says Bella is a good dog, mostly!

She was a recue dog at 6 pounds and is now 70 pounds of love.

She is a huge thief. She steals anything she can. She is a girlie-girl

she loves shoes, not to wear, but to eat. Clothes, pillows and of course

newspapers are a favorite treat. She has also eaten the TV

remote, a telephone and many dish cloths, mmmm good!!!

Her favorite toy is a tennis ball,

which is the only toy that lasts longer

than 5 minutes. Thanks, Cindy,

she looks like a great family pet,

despite her diet!

What is Rosemaling?

Rosemaling is the beautiful Norwegian folk painting, which dates

from the 17th century. This unique style of painting, with its graceful scrolls, leaves, and flowers, was influenced by the Viking

woodcarvings and metalwork of the 9th century, as well as the Acanthus leaf and Baroque style borrowed from Greece and

Rome. Rosemaling has been steadily gaining popularity in the

United States since the early 1950's..

Vesterheim is a national treasure that explores the diversity of

American immigration through the lens of Norwegian-American

experience, showcases the best in historic and contemporary Norwegian folk and fine arts. http://vesterheim.org/index.php
