Planning for Advert 1’s ImageModel Rosie Akroyd

Camera height/angle/distance Can either be:•High angle with a medium shot•Eye-level at a medium-shot or medium close up

Location I will use the same sheet that I used for my front cover (the white sheet on the cupboards), because I will be able to change the ocloureasily

Lighting/Macro/Flash I won’t use any flash ebcasue there will be natural light fromt eh window above me when I am takign the pictures, as well as a spotilight above the model

Mise-en-scene (incl. props, costume) She will be wearing a baby pink dress, and sitting on an elegant period chair•Wearing a pearl bracelet or/and a white flower

Background The white sheet will be tha background, to create the illusaion that she has elegant, flowing cutrains behind her. Then I will change the background to a lighter baby pink than my models dress

Continued….Attempted connotation (the secondary meaning of the picture e.g.

home- warmth, comfort, affection)

I want to convey the theme of elegance, but also because the model will probably (might not) not be looking at the camera , like she is thinking, showing a desire for something (the product)

Planned denotation (the direct meaning e.g. poodle is the denotation

for a dog breed)

You will see a girl looking sitting on a chair, with flowing baby pink curtains behind her. Whilst she looks like she is thinking about something.

Contingency (in case of model absence/weather) If the lighting is not correct, then I will take the model outside in the natural light. If the weather is sunny spells, that will be fine because the lighting will create a crystal effect when it reflects on the camera lens. Also, if it beings to rain I will ask a friend to hold an umbrella on top of her, making sure the light isn’t blocked, then edit the umbrella out

Alternate angle If the high angle or eye-level angle does not work, then I will try a close-up shot or even a long shot, because I will be able to capture her dress

Thinking points: when making the model pose, make sure you are evoking the right feelings that would make a teenage girl like it.

Photography Explained

• Aperture- will be at ƒ/11, because there will be lots of natural light on the musicians, therefore the iris doesn’t need to be large

• Shutter Speed- will be handheld at 1/60, because the musicians will be in still positions, therefore, the shutter doesn’t need to be fast to capture the image

• ISO- will be low at 200, because there is lots of natural light, therefore the sensitivity must be lower to avoid noise in the picture

Decisions on Advert Image

• Firstly, I short-listed the pictures based on a criteria I set: this was whether I could sell a product from this e.g. perfume, make-up, etc…. Additionally, how eye-catching the picture is

• I then asked 20 teenage girls which picture they preferred, meaning in general what picture stood out to them the most, and what they thought could sell any teenage product. Therefore, they chose the 3rd picture from the left at 60%.

• This picture can be used to advertise any product, therefore I am not restricted on thinking about what products I will be advertising.

Basic Photoshop tools for editing

• The picture needs the basic brightening, but also contrast so I can keep the rosy colour in the picture

• I will also be using the healing and spot tool, as her eyes are slightly bloodshot

• I might use the smudged tool, for the background, to make it much more smoother, so I am able keep the texture and colour of the sheet

Planning for Advert 2’s ImageModel Rosie Akroyd

Camera height/angle/distance • Long-shot to be able to take a full length body shot• The angle will be at eye-level, to capture the model and the

scenery

Location • This will be taken in the park, to be able to create a different atmosphere to the 1st advert, as the scenery will be different

Lighting/Macro/Flash There will be no flash as it is outside in the daylight with lots of natural light. And the flash may make the photo seem un-professional

Mise-en-scene (incl. props, costume) • She will be holding a perfume bottle, or just posing • Costume- she can either be wearing high wasted jeans with a t-

shirt, or a dress

Background It will preferably be taken near lots of flowers, plants or even the pond

Continued….Attempted connotation (the secondary meaning of the picture e.g.

home- warmth, comfort, affection)I’m trying to show desire for the product, but also how it brings the teenage girl comfort. Showing my target audience that they need this perfume

Planned denotation (the direct meaning e.g. poodle is the denotation

for a dog breed)When my target audience look at this advert, they will see a teenage girl holding a perfume bottle

Contingency (in case of model absence/weather) • If the lighting is too bright and effects the lens (sensitivity), then I will take the picture inside the house

• If the weather is bad, then I will also take the picture inside the house, but at a different part of the house, from the 1st advert

Alternate angle If the long-shot does not work, then I will use a medium shot, so that I can still capture the scenery, and model

Thinking points: I have to make sure that I am making the model seem in desire for the product

Photography Explained

• Aperture- will be at ƒ/11, because there will be lots of natural light on the musicians, therefore the iris doesn’t need to be large

• Shutter Speed- will be handheld at 160, because the musicians will be in still positions, therefore, the shutter doesn’t need to be fast to capture the image

• ISO- will be low at 200, because there is lots of natural light, therefore the sensitivity must be lower to avoid noise in the picture

Decision for Advert 2’s image

• Due to the weather I have had to take the picture inside the house, and so I have changed the model pose, as well as instead advertising fashion

• I have short-listed the images on a criteria: if they are showing desire for the product• I then asked 20 teenage girls to choose an image that makes them feel drawn to the clothing• My target audience chose the 3rd picture on the left. This is a good picture because there is space at

the top for an article title and, or kicker. But also, the clothing is being shown, which makes it more obvious that I am advertising fashion

Basic Photoshop editing

• The picture needs lightening, but not too much because there is a lot of natural lighting present in the picture.

• I will crop the image as there is a door, etc…. Which doesn’t need to be in an advert for fashion
