It really is Independence Day for me because I just got out of prison! No, it’s not what you think, I am a very good girl; I just went there for training with the

Pawsitive Partners Prison Program. We spend nine

weeks learning all the things needed to be a good companion, like walking on a leash and sitting politely. I have graduated at the top of my class and am ready for my forever home. My

name is Spanky and I’m a young firecracker, just

2-years-old, and I look very much like an American Foxhound! My buddy

Ginger shares my dream of finding a loving family. We both are really good with children, other dogs and cats and have the same

laid-back, loving personalities. She’s just 2-years-old as well and about the same size as me. Either of us would

make a great addition to your family or, better yet, both of us! We get along really well and that sure

would be fun to be adopted together! You can apply at www.montyshome.org or call Monica at 910-297-1338 or email [email protected].

And thank you, Dick Parrott, for taking these Yankee Doodle Dandy photos of us!

Hi, I’m Darla and I’m a

2-year-old, female Jack

Russell. Don’t you just love the big brown circle around my eye, makes me pretty

special. I was surrendered by my owner because he couldn’t take care of me when I was pregnant. Unfortunately, my puppies did

not survive, but I am healthy and ready to find a new loving home. I am a happy little girl who LOVES to play. Tug of

war or chasing balls, whatever your heart desires I’m game for. I prefer bigger dogs to play with but if the right small dog came along, we could give it a try. Oh, I love to play with those humans, too! In my downtime, I love to cuddle

in your lap. I am house-trained, crate-trained, leash-trained, current on all vaccinations and spayed. I’m ready to go! For more info, please call Furever Friends Animal

Rescue at 910-383-2100.

I am sponsored by Cindy Meyers in loving memory of Harley and Murphy.

Hello, friends, my name is Jack! I was once part of an orphaned litter of kittens that was running

out of time at Animal Control. A nice young lady saw us there and

took us home. We were so tiny that she had to bottle-feed each and

every one of us. Did you know that bottle-feeding

makes kittens very sweet and sociable? We be-

come very used to being held and cuddled by hu-

mans, so we’re not skittish or shy at all. And that describes me to this day! I’m a 1-year-old brown Tabby who is now available for adoption through Cat Adoption Team. I’m

such a sweetheart with a very loveable personality. I even get along great with dogs! I’m also neutered, up to date on vaccinations and litterbox trained. Won’t you give me the chance to love you? Call Cat Adoption Team at 910-792-

9014. We’re also at Petsmart seven days a week!

I am sponsored by NCRealEstateInvestor.com in honor of Amelia Schoolfield...who now has wings.

"Streaker" .Neutered, Male 7-Year-Old Border Collie

I’m a little puzzled why a cutie-pie like me is living at Ani-mal Control! My

name is Jellybean (A003614) and I

once had a family but the landlord

said, “No dogs al-lowed, not even

adorable ones like Jellybean.” I para-phrase here, but you get the idea.

My folks sure must have been sad to bring me to the shelter! I’m a

1-year-old Jack Russell Terrier mix who plays well with other dogs. I also like to be held! Yes-sir, I’m a true cuddler. I am very friendly and still getting used to my surroundings.

Instead of living in a kennel, I want to be back in a home environment where I belong! Wouldn’t you like to drive

out here, hold me in your arms and get to know me? Call Pender County Animal Control at 910-259-1349 or

Officer Clewis at 910-279-3196. They’ll be happy to give you driving directions or tell you even more!

I am sponsored by the Keffer pack: Dixie, Luke, Kira

and Jackson. Please consider adoption. Thank you!

I Was In Last Month’s Issue. I Need to Find a

Home Soon! If you want a puppy who

will melt everyone’s heart, pick me! My name is

Ziggy (A054128) and I was found on Baldwin

Drive in Brunswick County. (My name was

Alec in the last issue, but it’s been changed.) I’m a

precious puppy, just 5-months-old, and I

need the love of a good woman, good man, or good family. I’m not

choosy! I’m a Black Lab mix who is friendly, happy, playful and gorgeous. My fur is a

shiny black, so smooth to the touch and I have the cutest little underbite! I searched the playroom in vain for a toy, and

had to settle instead for a couple spins of chasing my tail. Everyone laughed when I did that - I guess I’m just too darn

cute! I love treats and will happily sit so that you can give me one. Come on over and meet me! You might just want to fill out that adoption form while you’re here. If you need driving directions or hours, call Brunswick County Animal Control at 910-754-8204. Bring a ball if you can. If not, I’ll chase my

tail for you.

I am sponsored by Willetts Horse Farm, Bolivia NC in loving memory of Maya.

My name is Leon and I am a HUGE orange Tabby with an

endearing personal-

ity. I came in

with Jade (pictured on page 14) be-

cause our owners

got a divorce and no one could keep us. I am about 5-years-old and you can meet me at Pet Supermarket on Oleander Drive. Jade and I can be adopted separately or together. It would be nice to stay together if someone out there has a big enough heart to help us both. I am very

friendly and active, but I like to cuddle close at bedtime. If you would like to know more info about me or Jade, please

call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557.

I am sponsored by Perry Davis. Thank you!

I’m a Plott Hound – not quite pure, but darned close. I

lived in the woods of Boiling Spring Lakes for at least six

months. My owner must have dumped me and my brother when we were pups and left

us to fend for ourselves. They caught my brother and brought him to Paws Place in August, but it took them until December before they could catch me. They named me

Xena and I am still learning to trust people and can be very skittish. I will run if given the

chance, so I need a high fenced yard and cannot be left alone in it. My friends here have just started to take me to Adoption Days. It’s a little

scary sometimes, but I think I can get used to it. I’m a little over a year old, have been spayed and I weigh about 55 pounds. My brother just recently found his new home, so

I’m hoping that a kind, patient and loving family will give me a chance, too! Come see me at Paws Place! Their phone

number is 910-845-7297.

I am sponsored by Hank and Grace Harrington.

►My name is Gus. I am a gentle giant who is calm and

easy. I am 6-years-old and lost my home when my owner went into rehab. I am very smart and have a big “knowledge

bump” on my head to prove it. Anyone would be lucky to

have me. I am neu-tered, vaccinated and heartworm negative. I get along great with kids, cats

and calm, settled dogs. I am past the playful puppy stage so I won’t romp, play or chew shoes or toys. I like the compan-

ionship of other dogs, but not for play.

◄My name is Bandit and I am a very sweet girl. I am a mid-size around 30 pounds

and I’m long and short. I am an active girl who would do

best in an active home. I am a spoiled baby so I would

prefer to be your only pet if possible. I love to walk, run or

jog along side of you while you walk, jog, skateboard, roller-skate or bike. A volunteer even rode a bike and I jogged along side for over two miles. I am a couch potato inside. I am spayed, tested negative for

heartworms and up to date on my vaccinations.

►Hi, my name is Casey! I am a 4-year-old, 30

pound Husky mix girl. I am house-

trained, crate-trained, leash-

trained and great with other dogs. I can be a little

skittish with ram-bunctious kids. I have lived with

cats before but I seem a little

scared of them. I don't bark and I don't need to be crated. I get excited

when it’s time to eat and I go out and jump around in circles. I am a little slow to warm up initially but I get attached and

love the heck out of my humans eventually.

►My name is Beauty and I am a little black Lab who weighs only

around 25 to 30 pounds so I would be great in an apartment. I am SUPER SMART, too. I al-ready know sit, lay down, shake

and can almost do rollover. I absolutely love children, I am

house-trained and I walk really well on a gentle leader. I am

spayed, heartworm negative and up to date on my shots. I am

eager to please, very easily cor-rected and TREAT MOTIVATED, too! I don't prefer cats and do ok

with some dogs so it would be easier if I was an only dog. I was

once pampered in my previous home, but they could no longer keep me. I can be shy around men especially since I have been homeless a few months and most of the volun-teers and staff are women. I am an overlooked gem, just a

plain little black dog who needs someone to love her.

◄Here I am and my name is

Kimmy. I am a knee high little girl who is so friendly. I would be a great

apartment dog and I am good with other ani-

mals. When you come home, I wag my whole

body not just my tail. That's how

happy I am to see you and I am so

happy to be alive. I am sponsored by Terry Garrison who paid my adoption fee to save my life!

►My name is Sonny. I am a very affectionate

boy who lays his head in your lap. I sit and shake on command. My sister

and I were at Animal Control. She was

adopted but I ran out of time so Adopt-An-Angel took me in. I am a great

dog who is approxi-mately 10-months of age. I have already

been neutered and I am current on vaccinations. I am playful and ener-

getic and would love a little kid to romp and play with.

Page 10: PawPrints Magazine July 2012

Look at me, look at me! I am one handsome devil

for sure! I was not always this way as I was forced to live the first five years

of my life on a chain. I came into rescue a mangled

ball of mess. Everyone was

shocked when a mini-Schnauzer popped out from under all of that. I am so glad to be off of that chain and I am now ready for my own home. My name is Smokey

and I am six years old and weigh 25 pounds. I am a gor-geous boy with silky grey hair and the trademark Schnau-

zer beard. I am house-trained, crate-trained, and walk well on a leash. I currently live with three Bassett Hounds

and love to play with them but I can be a little alpha to strange dogs outside of my home. I would like to be an

only dog or in a home with dogs my size and under. I love to sleep on my dog bed at night and I don’t make a peep. During the day I love hanging out, basking in the sun on

the porch or curling up next to you while you read a book. If you have room in your heart and home for me, go to

www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org and complete an adoption application. If you need an application mailed or faxed, please call 910-264-8300. Oh, I forgot to mention: I am neutered, heartworm negative, micro-chipped, and up

to date on all of my shots.

This is my second day at Animal Con-trol and I still don’t understand why

I’m suddenly with-out my family. My

name is Maple (A003966) and I

had no where else to go when my two

human parents were taken to a

nursing home. I’m sure they must

miss me and I bet they’re praying a wonderful, com-

passionate person or family will give me a brand new

life - one that is happy and full of love. It’s what I’m wish-ing for, too! I’m a 6-year-old Lab mix girl who is already

spayed, house-trained and leash-trained. I’m a little over-weight, so daily walks with me would be wonderful. I am

friendly to everyone I meet and I sit for treats. In fact, that’s what I’m doing in my photo. So, what do you think? Adopt me and you’ll have a ready-made companion, one who is already well-trained and family-friendly. You’ll also be helping mend three broken hearts. Call Pender County Animal Control at 910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-

279-3196 and tell them you’d love to come meet me.

I am sponsored in honor of Kathleen M. Langone.

▲It’s raining kittens at Animal Control! Several litters are featured on this page, but

there are many more available at the shelter. We come in all sizes, shapes and

colors. As for us, we’re three white brothers who need loving families! Our

choose the one you love! ►Well, hello there, have you come to adopt us?

My name is Sheryl

the far left. In the

middle is my black

brother, Buffett

(A055130). We are 7-week-old kittens who were found as strays. We are so curious and so sweet - bonafide heartmelters, I tell ya! In the back of the cage is our buddy, Melody (A055211). She was taking a nap. Come get to know us and choose the one you love!

►Hi there! We are Hocus and Pocus (A054062,

A054065) and we’d like to cast a spell on you! Don’t

worry, you’re going to like it! We will make you fall in love

and we don’t even need a magic passion formula. All

you have to do is come meet us, cuddle us in your hands

and presto!...love will hit you like a ton of bricks. We are a boy and a girl, just 12-weeks

of age and we love to play, cuddle, purr, hop, skip and

nap. Come get us today!

◄It’s no wonder I’m named after the Goddess of Love - I’m a Love Machine! My name is Venus (A055379) and I’m a 1-year-old girl who was found as a stray. I have fluffy long hair, big gold eyes and a personality that is just purr-fect. I enjoy being held and want nothing more than to go home with you to-day. You’ve got to come meet me in person. I will be your special girl.

►Hi there! My name is Pixie (A055193) and

I’m the Russian Blue/

grey girl on the left. Next to me is my black and

white brother. His name is

Puddles (A055194).

We arrived at the shelter because our owner decided he didn’t want kittens. Perhaps he should have spayed our mom! Now we’re facing an uncertain future at Animal Control. We are affectionate darlings who will be great companions for anyone. Please come meet us today!

My name is Lyla and I have not met a person or animal that I didn’t like! If you’re

friendly and social like me, I bet we would make a great team! At just 1-year-old,

I’m a Boxer mix girl who is already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm preven-tion. I love to play with toys and I love to receive atten-

tion from humans. I am great with cats, other dogs and I love children, but I’d

probably fit in best with older kids because of my

energy. I’m also doing very well with my basic commands! Wouldn’t you like to see me grow up into a very loving and wonderful girl? We can take trips to the dog park or beach and have a fantastic life to-gether. I’d love to play in our fenced yard, go for walks in

the neighborhood and snuggle on the couch with you. If this all sounds good, call SOAR today and inquire about adopt-

ing me! Their number is 910-457-6340.

I am sponsored by Top Toad in the Cotton Exchange in Downtown Wilmington, NC. Thank you!

Hello, everyone, my name is Lucy! I’m a beautiful black and

white girl with long fur and a petite frame. At just 10-months-old, I’m a super-sweet young

feline. I love to snuggle and be petted and when you talk to me I answer with cute little meows. I also enjoy playing with jingly cat toys and any

other toy you might want to give me. I am mellow and social and

get along with other cats. As for my health, I am already spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Re-member what they say: good things come in small pack-ages and that definitely applies to me! Won’t you let me be your girl? Call Cat Adoption Team at 910-792-9014.

We’re also at Petsmart seven days a week!

I am sponsored by Katherine Sweeney in loving memory of Colonel, Brillo, Inkie, Crystal,

I consider them all to be my buddies! At just 7-months-old, I’m already up to date on shots, neutered and litterbox-trained. I was rescued from a hoarding situation and am ready for a brand new life. Let’s go!

Monday - Friday: 5:30pm to 6:30pm Saturday: 1pm to 4pm

◄We three precious kittens were found

running out of time at Animal Control. Cat

Adoption Team took us into foster homes and now, at 12-weeks-old,

we’re ready for families! My name is Astro and I’m the boy pictured in the foreground. In the

bed behind me are Star Gazer (a female torti) and Michaux (a

male Tabby). We love to play, sleep under the

covers and be cuddled in your arms. We are also

up to date on kitten vacci-nations, spayed/neutered and litterbox-trained. Adopt us!

◄My goal in life is to have fun and be loved! Now all I need is a special person or family to make that happen. My name is Chloe and I’m a 7-month-old female Tabby who gets along with everyone I meet. That includes other cats, dogs, men, women and chidlren. I am very sociable and friendly and enjoy being held. I have a very sweet personality, too! Oh yes, I’m spayed, up to date on shots and litterbox-trained.

►I’m a 1-year-old boy named Brownie. If you

adopt me, you’ll find I’m just as sweet as the dessert I’m named after! You see, I’m

a super-snuggly boy who enjoys attention from hu-

mans and who always wel-comes a hand on my fur.

I’m already neutered, vacci-nated and litterbox-trained,

so all I need now is a hu-man to love me! Come

meet me and see why I’m the cat of your dreams!

You won’t be disappointed.

◄▲Six adorable kittens await to be adopted! We are four girls

and two boys names Jersey, George, Cindy, Mindy, Nikki and Nili. We have been living in a foster home with our feline mom since we were 2-weeks-old. We’re now

9-weeks-old and ready to find loving homes! We are very sociable, sweet and playful. We’re already up to date on

kitten shots, spayed/neutered and litterbox-trained.

I’m just 1-year-old and already spayed, up to date on shots and litterbox-trained. Let’s get together!

kitty. I came in with my brother,

Leon (pictured

family because they got a divorce and neither could keep us. As you can see in this picture, I am very sad and I

miss having a home and people who love me. The most remarkable green eyes, along with the vibrant orange

splashes of my fur make me very striking and appealing. You can find Leon and I together at Pet Supermarket on Oleander Drive. We can be adopted separately, but if someone out there would be interested in taking in two

orphans, we would love that, too. If you would like to know more info about us or would like to inquire about the adop-

tion process, call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557.

I am sponsored by Perry Davis. Thank you!

Hi – I’m Buddy – I’m very shy at

first, but I can be

very play-ful. I

have a really

warm and loving

personal-ity. I don’t get to ride in the car so much, so on adoption days, when I do ride, I can get a little nervous. I love to

cuddle. Paws Place took me to the vet and they said I was very healthy and heartworm negative. Then they gave me shots. They think I’m about 1½- years-old and weigh about

40 pounds. I play well with other dogs and would love to have the chance to be in a home with a real family. If you’d

like to meet me (and I hope you do!), please call Paws Place at 910-845-7297. They’ll be happy to give you driving

directions or tell you even more!

I am sponsored by Marybeth and Elliott Tepper in lov-ing memory of Charleston and Scarlet, who loved all their sisters and brothers. We all miss you so much.

Cat Tails

◄Would you believe some-one moved off and left us be-hind? Not only us, they left our seven kittens,

too! Some peo-ple are just

heartless! We don’t remember

which kittens were mine and

which were Winky’s, but they’re all grown now so we’re looking for new homes. I’m Whitney, the long-haired pastel Calico on the

left and the Torti next to me is my sister, Winky. We would love to stay together though we would understand if we

can’t. Both of us love people, but not other cats, so if you have an empty lap that needs a cat, come meet us.

►I am named after a Scot-

tish king, Duncan,

which should be no sur-prise as I

have a royal look, and

even some red hair!! I am a great

cat and only a couple of

years old. I love people and they love me. I really don’t like being in this shelter and with royal blood, I shouldn’t be. Come take me

away from these peons.

►If you don’t know what a Nixie is, let me tell you. It is a mythi-cal feminine spirit of

fresh waters in sacred springs and rivers. An

appropriate name for a kitty from an area

with so much water, don’t you think? I am

an 8-month-old, pastel Calico. Like any

mythical spirit, I can be a little bit shy at

first, but I love to be petted and have my

head rubbed.

◄It may not be winter

time but it’s always a

good time for some Cocoa.

I am a 6-month-old girl. I’m dark

chocolate brown with a

tiny white spot next to

my right eye, just like a

little beauty mark. I am

very shy at first but if you give me some time I’ll warm up, just like the hot chocolate, and I’ll cuddle in your arms.

◄Mad Max they call me!

Just because I am so wild and wooly looking! I am a 4-year-

old brown Tabby and

Maine Coon mix. I crave so much attention

that I’ll wear your arm out petting me. I do get along

well with other cats if you want me to share, but I am happy being the

only one as well.

◄They call me Rivet and just like the strong fastener I’m named for, I will attach myself to you and never let go!

As you can see, I am a beautiful gray Tabby

with splashes of white. I am 2-years-old and

would like to spend my next birthday at my

new house. I am timid at first but if you under-stand cats, you know it

is just my protective mode to keep from getting hurt. Let me feel comfortable and you’ll see what a great cat can be.

URGENT, URGENT!! I’m Running Out of

Time!! I have chocolate fur, soft brown eyes, and a loving

heart! Where is my family? My name is Angel Brandy (A001654) and I’ve been living at Pender County Animal Control’s animal

shelter since March of this year. That’s a long time at

Animal Control and, unfortu-nately, they can’t keep me indefinitely. You see, the

shelter is required by law to take in all abandoned pets. However, a building is only so big and, if it is full, someone has to go to make room for that new arrival. As I’ve been here a while, I will soon have to make room for someone else. Please, please, won’t someone come and see how sweet I am? I’m a favorite to many at the shelter

and have a friendly, social personality. I was found as a stray, but I was wearing a collar so I must have belonged to a family at one time in my short life. I’m a young girl

and would love to spend the rest of my life with you. For adoption information, please call Pender County Animal Control at 910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-279-3196. They’ll be happy to give you driving directions or

tell you even more!

I am sponsored because all rescues deserve a chance to be part of a loving family.

URGENT, URGENT!! My Time Is Running

Out! There are just too many animals arriving at the shelter and not enough

room for us all. Can’t you tell by my smiling face

that my story should have a different ending? My

name is Calista (A003893) and I’m a

friendly Bulldog mix girl who knows how to sit on command for treats. I also know how to steal

hearts with my attentive, people-pleasing personality. I’m already spayed, too! At 2-years-old, I have many more years of loving ahead. I

walk well on a leash and my fur is a beautiful red and white. The folks who had me moved away, but before they left they told the Animal Control officers that I’m heartworm

positive. Is there someone out there who would adopt me and help get me heart-healthy? You’d truly be saving my life twice - once by adopting me and again by treating my heartworms. That’s a lot of good karma you’d be generat-ing and I’d surely show you my gratitude for the rest of my life. Please come meet me! Call Pender County Animal

Control at 910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-279-3196 for driving directions or more information. I look forward to

seeing you at my kennel door.

I am sponsored in honor of Kathleen M. Langone.

►My name is Sasha (A273309) and I love to

stretch my legs out, which is hard to do in a cage. I’m hoping you’ll help me out with that by adopting me!

My owner moved away and surrendered me and my

brother, Ninja, to the shelter. I have loads of character, I

love to rub up against you, I have already been spayed and I’m full of sweetness. I’ll be an ideal companion

for any loving family with or without children.

◄Hi, my name is Buddy (A272890) and I’d love to be your friend, your chum, your companion, your pal,

your mate, your furkid, your sidekick or I’ll settle for being your buddy. I’m a 1 to 2-year-old, petite Labrador mix who was found running loose on Princess Place Drive in Wilmington. My fur is a

blend of black, chocolate and white. I am leash-

trained, neutered, playful and super loving. I’m also gentle, curious and eager

to please. If you have room in your life for a

sweet boy like me, please don’t waste another minute. Contact the shelter today and tell them you want to love me!!

►My last family called me Hybris (A273256) but you can name me anything you want as long as you’ll love me. My last family surren-dered me to the shelter be-

cause they were moving and couldn't take me along. I am looking for someone to

adopt me who will never, ever let that happen to me again. I’m a 5-month-old Hound mix who is playful and loving and who never

lets his tail stop wagging. I know how to sit, shake and

roll over on command and I’m even crate-trained. I am INCREDIBLY cute and am engaging so I’ll be fun to train. I must have toys in my new home because I think they are great. I will sit by your feet and play with them or we can

play together, whatever you prefer!

►Wandering down Carolina Beach Road is

no place for a puppy! I’m so thankful that Ani-mal Control picked me up and brought me to

the shelter. My name is Bentley (A272612) and

I’m a happy guy who loves toys. I am a

Golden Retriever and Australian Shepherd mix and I love toys...oh, wait,

I already said that. I have loads of personality and I’m ready for a long life that’s full of love and

fun. Adopt me today!

◄I am a wonderful cat and homeless through no fault of my own. My name is Ninja (A273307) and I’m a 10-month-old, neutered boy who is good with chil-dren. I came to the shelter with my sister, Sasha (pictured next to me). Our owner moved and couldn’t take us. I’m a cuddly, lov-ing and handsome young man. I have silky, shiny black fur and a bushy tail. I crave being held and enjoy being in your lap.

▲We are Terry (A272882), Tony (A272866) and Tory (A272865) and we are sweet, baby kittens who are looking for loving families. We were part of unplanned litters and were surrendered to Animal Control with hopes of finding

forever homes. People! You’ve got to spay or neuter your pets so little ones like us don't end up homeless...or worse! Come by the shelter and get some sandpaper kitty kisses!

Don’t I look happy in this photo? This was taken on my graduation day from the Pawsitive Partners Prison Program with the family who adopted me, why

shouldn’t I be happy? I had a home! But unfortunately, it was only for a little while

because they got mad when I chewed up some of their stuff and brought me back. My name is Ginger and I am crate-trained, just 2-years-old and love every-body. I’m a good size girl, about 50 pounds, but am

very well behaved - I was at the top of my obedience

classes! I just need a little help with which toys are mine and which are yours, but am a quick learner, please give me a chance. Call Monica at 910-297-1338 or email [email protected]. Better

yet, fill out an application at www.montyshome.org.

Thank you to Ms. Connie from Dog Speak for sponsoring me so hopefully I will find my forever home!

Wouldn’t it be great to wake up to this happy face every morning? I

give good morning kisses, too! My name is Amy (A055104) and I’m a 7-month-old girl who was found as a

stray. I was so happy to come out of my ken-nel into the playroom.

I just love meeting new people and love receiv-ing attention. I’m play-ful, but I always slow down long enough to flop back and enjoy belly rubs. Ahhhh,

those are great! I’d be a great family dog because I have such a happy, affection-ate personality. I’m a petite girl, too, perhaps mixed with

Shepherd. Won’t you come meet me? Please call Bruns-wick County Animal Control at 910-754-8204. They’ll give

you driving directions or answer any other question you may have about me! Hope to see you soon.

◄My name is Sophie and I’m a special girl - just check out my front paws! Can you see how they look like oven mitts? I’m a polydactyl cat, which means I have an extra toe on each paw. If you ask me, that means I bring good luck! I’m a 4-year-old, spayed lady who gets along with other cats, dogs and children. I used to live inside-only with kids but my owners moved away. Adopt me!

◄Hi! My name is Pumie and I arrived at

the shelter with my mother, Sug. That’s her pictured above me. Our owner passed away and there was no one else who could take us in.

We are perfect compan-ions for some very lucky

person or family and can be adopted together

or separately. I’m a 4-year-old Golden Re-triever/Lab mix girl who is house-trained. I am

fine with cats and I played gently with the

3-year-old granddaugh-ter who would come visit. Adopt me and let’s enjoy life!

►I once had a family, but they moved to an apartment that didn’t

allow pets. What a sad place that must be! My

name is Elena and I’m a 1-year-old, spayed girl

who is up to date on vaccines and litterbox-

trained. I am getting along just fine with the

other cats at the shelter and I’m used to living with

a dog. I’m a very sweet Tabby who enjoys living

inside-only with my folks.

◄I’m a 1-year-old spayed orange and white Tabby girl named Brave! Brave is what I’m being right now because I’m homeless. My sister Buttercup used to share this window with me at the shelter but she was just adopted. I must admit I’m a little lonely and I’d really like a family of my own. I’m used to living inside-only and I like other cats. I can fetch toys - just throw a ball and I’ll get it! Give yourself the gift of me.

◄My name is Goose and I’m a gorgeous, pure-white, 3-year-old boy. My fur is so soft, it’s hard to quit touch-ing me once you’ve begun! I’ll be a very affectionate and loving companion for some lucky person or fam-ily. I get along with dogs and other cats, and I like to snuggle with my humans at night. I’m already neu-tered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. You must come meet me and see how handsome I truly am!

►I’m a Golden Re-triever/Lab mix and I

once had a loving home, but my owner passed

away. I’m the kind of girl that you only have to spend a few seconds with before realizing

that I’m a perfect family companion. I’m Sug

(pronounced Shug) and I adore people, am fine with cats, am already

house-trained and leash-trained. See that doggie

below me? That’s my daughter! We’d love to

be adopted together, but can go to separate homes. I’m gentle with children, too!

I’m such a sweet boy! My name is Picasso and

I’m just getting settled into shelter life. You see,

I used to be part of a family, but my owners

moved to an apartment where dogs aren’t al-

lowed. Sounds like a sad place, if you ask me. I’m

a 3-year-old neutered fellow who is already house-trained. I lived with other dogs but I

haven’t been around kitty cats. I play well within a fenced yard and I sleep inside with my family. I

weigh just 14 pounds, perfect for holding and cuddling! They tell me I’m a Fox Terrier. Oh yes, I really enjoy car

rides! Especially if I’m going to a place where they give out doggie treats, like the pet store. So what do you say?

Would you like to meet me? Call the New Hanover Hu-mane Society at 910-763-6692 and let’s get together!

I am sponsored by Levi Donovan.

Please think about adopting.

Hi, I am Belle. Even though I am

older in years, I am still the Bell of the Ball! I was surren-dered to the

shelter by my owner who didn't want

me any more. I had glaucoma in my left eye but thankfully the vet removed it since it was so very painful for me. Now, I am running around and enjoying my life with the other dogs in

my foster home. I am also very respectful of their kitty cats. I am loving and am as sweet and kind as I can be.

If you can give me a furever home, I'll be all set! Ask about adopting me, Belle, and you won’t be sorry! To inquire about the adoption process and to make me a

member of your family, please call 919-708-4247. You may visit the Carolina Basset Hound Rescue website at www.cbhr.com where you can learn more about me and

other wonderful Bassets looking for love.

◄I’m Konane! Do you know

how to say it – Ko nan ee – it means bright

moon. I got my name in a rather unusual way. A kind gentleman

found me in Boil-ing Spring Lakes and asked Paws

Place to help me. Paws Place decided to let their 1000th “like” on Facebook name me. Not only did she give me a

pretty name, she came out to meet me, too. I’m a Hound mix who will probably be about 40 pounds. I’m also heartworm negative and up to date on all my shots. I’m sweet, loving

and gentle and just want a chance at a life with someone who will love me. Come out to see me at Paws Place. They are

open every day from 9am until noon.

◄My name is Shasta and I’m

learning new things at

Paws Place, like playing, walking on a

leash and food bowls. My friends

here say that I am very gentle and not aggressive in any way. I get a little frightened sometimes, but I think it’s

just a matter of me getting used to things. The vet thinks I’m a Shepherd mix, around 8-months-old. I’ve

had all of my shots and am spayed. Once fully grown, I will probably only weigh around 50 pounds. My siblings

have already found homes – now I hope it’s my turn!

◄I’m Nadia and I’m just as cute as can be.

I’m good natured and love to run

around with all of the other

puppies. I’m a Redbone

Hound/Lab mix who gets

excited when people come

to visit. If there is water, I like it – especially putting my feet in the water bowl – isn’t that what it’s for? I’m

3½ -months-old, have my shots and am spayed. They say I’ll probably be a big girl – maybe 60 pounds, but I can also be very laid back. Hope my new family comes soon!

◄I’m Tasha and I came from a litter of eight

pups. My mom was a Redbone Hound and my

dad was a Lab. The folks

here are thinking that I’ll probably grow to about 60

pounds when I’m fully grown – right now, though, I’m 25 pounds and just 13-weeks-old. I’ve been to the vet’s

office and I’m up to date on all of my shots and spayed, too. I’m good natured and love to run and play with the other dogs. I can be a real cuddle bug as well! I hope I

get a nice family with kids that will want to adopt me.

◄I’m Oakley. Can you guess where I came from by my name? Animal

Control found me on Oak Island just

about six years ago when I was a pup. That’s right – I’ve been here just

about my whole life. I’m very loving and affectionate. I’m only about 55

pounds and am a flat-coated female Retriever mix who is up to date on all of my shots and heartworm nega-

tive. I would really like the opportunity to live in a home (I was adopted once before and returned through no

fault of my own) and be loved for me. Please come visit!

I’ve Been at the Shelter a Year!

Why Is a Great Girl Like Me Being Overlooked?

My name is Gypsy and I’m one of the sweetest,

friendliest and most loving girls you’ll ever

have the joy to meet. I’m a completely non-

aggressive Pit Bull who never meets a stranger.

My smiling face wel-comes all the people who greet me. I am spayed, up to date on shots and

on heartworm prevention. I get along with other dogs, I dearly love playing with

squeaky toys and I will take treats very gently from your fin-gers. I also love playing in water. I have a fabulous time

splashing in my wading pool and I really enjoy getting squirted by the water hose. I see fun times at the lake or

beach in our future! First, though, you must come meet me in person. You won’t be disappointed by my prize-winning

personality! Here’s one more bit of information to entice you: a friend of mine is sponsoring my adoption fee! For driving directions, or if you have any questions, please call Pender County Humane Society at 910-259-7022. I’ll be waiting!

I am sponsored by the Free Puppy Kindergarten and

Canine Life And Social Skills Training Program at Porters Neck Veterinary Hospital. Thank you!

At first glance, I

might look like any

other ador-able kitten, but if you

take a closer

look, you will notice that I’m

missing my rear right

leg. Well, missing isn’t the right word - I have part of it, but it ends just below my knee joint. It’s actually quite cute

and I get around just fine! I run, play, skip, hop, jump and melt hearts just like any other kitten. The only thing I can’t do is scratch behind my ear - that’s why I need you! My name is Peg (A003907) and I’m an 8-week-old girl who was brought to the shelter with four brothers and sisters. (They all have fully-formed legs.) We were an unplanned litter and our owner decided to drop us off. I am extremely sweet and loving and they believe I was born with my leg

this way. I’ve never known anything different and am quite happy. Well, I would be even happier if I had a family! Please call Pender County Animal Control at 910-259-

1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-279-3196. They’ll be happy to tell you all about me and how we can meet!

Dreamboat! That is the word that my foster

mom uses to describe me (completely unso-

licited) - so call me Dreamboat Abner and know that I want to be your ‘Ship of Dreams!’ I hope to be ‘heading

out to somewhere, won’t be back for

awhile’ – somewhere being my Forever Fam-ily. I’m 8-years young and get along great

with other four leggers, the furry ones who purr don’t even interest me, and I've even learned

how to use the doggy door for all my business meetings. I am also quite the conversationalist. If you need someone to talk to, I am your hound! If you speak to me, I will mum-ble back and will keep it going as long as you want. And

unlike the rest of your family, I will let you finish a sentence! So all aboard the SS Abner, and let’s set a course for ad-

Another dynamic

trio of dogs is looking

for a home (not all in one place,

though). We are Elliott, Alice,

and Olivia, and we are in foster homes with

Schnauzer Rescue of the Carolinas. We are

three of twenty-two Schnauzer mixes (mixed

with Poodle or Cairn Terrier) who were con-

fiscated and sent to res-cue when our owner

was arrested for cruelty. We no longer are forced to live in broken down

cars or cages hung from a tree, we are in loving homes and ready for adoption.

We are very sweet, under 20 pounds, and a bit shy at first but warm up quickly. We are house-trained, great with

other dogs, and fully vetted (neutered/spayed, heartworm negative, microchipped, up to date on all shots). Visit

www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org to apply to adopt us or call 910-264-8300 to get an application.

three lucky

souls taken in by Schnauzer Res-cue of the Carolinas when our owner was arrested for cruelty.

We came in with nineteen of our friends so there are plenty to go around. All of us are Schnauzer

mixes (some with Poodle and some with Cairn terrier) under 20 pounds and 2-years-old. We are so happy to be in homes and we are each now looking for our for-

ever home where we can be spoiled. The three of us are in

Virginia, but don't worry, getting us closer to you is no problem. We are all spayed/neutered, up to date on shots, micro-chipped, and heartworm nega-tive. Please visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org

◄There are SO MANY adorable kittens at Animal

Control right now. I am just one of them!

Hello there, my name is Annabelle (A003900) and I’m

an 8-week-old, fluffy female kitten who

was found as a stray in Rocky Point.

Someone must have abandoned me. I’m a precious, darling baby who enjoys

being held. I have the prettiest gray

and white fur - it’s so silky soft. You’ll

never want to stop touching or cuddling me! I am friendly to all the other kittens I’ve met. Please come visit us and tell

all your friends that great kittens can be found here!

▲I’m Diane (A003941), an orange and white kitten, just 6 to 8-weeks-old. Kelly, a calico Tabby, is my sis. We need homes! I’m tiny, but I’m spunky and very loving.

Kelly is sweet as pie and purrs all the time. We were part of an unplanned litter. Hope someone plans to adopt us!

►I arrived at the shelter on June 12 and I’m hoping to get out of here real soon!

I’m a family dog, of that there is no doubt. Won’t you come visit and get to

know me? Hi, my name is Peanut (A003677) and I’m

an extremely sweet and loving boy with a tender-hearted nature. They tell

me I’m a Rottie mix, just 2 to 3-years-old. I was found as a stray and desperately

want to be a well-loved family member. Adopt me!

◄I was so happy to sit in this chair and be rubbed! When a human touches me, I get all purry and mushy and extremely loving. My name is Cheeto (A003080) and I’ve been at the shelter since April 26! That’s far too long for a handsome, awesome cat like me to be homeless. I’m the kind of kitty that people fight over! I guess I’ve just been overlooked. Please come get me!

►You can’t tell by my smiling face and always-happy personality, but

someone once used me terribly as a breeding

machine. I’m so much more than that! I have lots of love in my heart

for some special person or family, and I hope

they’re reading about me right now! My name is

Maggie Rose (A003911) and I’m a 3 to 4-year-old girl who was found as a

stray. I’m extremely friendly and sweet and I’m also a cuddler, even if I’ve just met you. Let’s go!

►What a sad day it must have been for my former

folks when the landlord said I couldn’t stay. It was sad for me, too. My name is Tina (A003140) and I’m

a 2 to 3-year-old Boxer mix girl who is friendly

and affectionate. I was so happy to come out of

my kennel for photos. They gave me treats and I

made new friends, which is something that comes

easily to me. Hope to befriend you real soon!

I’m all about purrs, head butts, devotion and giving my family as much atten-tion as I can. My name is

Samantha (VA8306) and I’m a seal point

Siamese. Not for sure if you noticed, but most

Siamese kitties have light blue eyes. But not

me! I’ve got beautiful dark blue eyes. It’s one of the many traits I have that makes me special. I

am turning 10-years-young this summer. Don't worry about my age

though. The doctor gave me a clean bill of health. I can see perfectly, my blood work and teeth are in great condi-tion! My Mom recently had a stroke and could no longer

take care of me. The nice people at Siamese Rescue are currently providing me with a temporary home until I can

find a new loving family. Did you know they’ve saved over 8,123 kitties? And I’d like to be number 8,124 to get a for-ever home with a loving family. If you’re interested in learn-ing more about me, please ask about me through Siamese Rescue at http://va.siameserescue.org/. You can also call

my foster Mom at 910-399-3920.

Hi, my name is Truen! I’m a sweet, funny,

smart canine who needs an owner with experience

with the bully breed. I am pres-ently working with a trainer and am doing well. My self-confidence builds with my

training and I am blossoming due to

all the attention and positive re-

wards given to me. I am very happy

playing with docile female dogs and would love to be part of a permanent new family! You can fill out an adoption

interest form at www.sunburstfoundationofwilmington.org. If you have any other questions about me, please call the

Sunburst Foundation at 910-622-0011.

I am sponsored by Pine Valley Animal Hospital. Thank you!

◄I will be a wonderful little lap cat for some lucky person or family! Right now, I’m a tiny kitten and my name is Patti. I’m a sweet baby girl who was born at the end of March. I love to be held and purr away with contentment in your arms. I also have a great time playing with toys and I get along well with other cats. The vet gave me an A+ check-up and I’m already spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Let’s go home!

►I’m a sweetheart and my name is Raven!

I hope my big, brown eyes are drawing you under my spell. I’d

really love to be part of your family, you see!

I’m a 10-month-old Lab/Shepherd mix who is

living at the shelter with my sister, Lady. She’s pictured on this page, too. I am friendly and fun and I have a great

time playing in my wad-ing pool on these hot

days. Sis and I can be adopted separately, so come on out and get to know us!

◄Have you always loved Boston Terriers? My name is Boston and I appear to be a pure-bred! I was picked up by Animal Control and no one has ever claimed me as their own. I’m a brin-dle boy, probably around 3-years-old and a mere 15 pounds. I am already neutered, up to date on shots and I take my heartworm pill every month. You will not find a sweeter dog than me anywhere! Adopt me and you’ll be so happy.

◄This smile is meant for you! How can you resist? My name is Lady and I’m a 10-month-old Labrador/

Shepherd mix girl. I’m living at the shelter with my sister Raven, who is

also pictured on this page. Aren’t we pretty?

We are full of life and very affectionate and we love to splash around in our wading pools. We have always been together, but we can be adopted

separately. I am already spayed, vaccinated and

on heartworm prevention. Come make my acquaintance!

►Need some love? You’re in luck! I am ready to bring you lots. And you can tell by my photo

that I’m a real beauty! My

name is Danielle and I was born on

June 15, 2010. We

cats live in a cageless environment at the shelter, so you can really get to know me and watch me interact with the other kitties. I love all people and am very affectionate. I’m also

spayed, up to date on shots and litterbox-trained.

◄Hi there, my name is Tina! I’m a Chihuahua mix, about 2-years-old, and I weigh in at a light ten pounds. Perfect for holding! I am spayed,

current on vaccinations, and on heartworm pre-

vention. When I came to the shelter from Animal Control, I was pregnant

and gave birth to a litter of six puppies. I was a terri-fic mom. My babies have all found homes and now it’s my turn. I can be a bit shy at first, but I warm up

quickly. You’ll love me, so hurry on out to the shelter!

I’ve been at the shelter for over a year! I just don’t

understand why? I’ve got nothing but love in my

heart for everyone and am ready to be the best family member you’ve ever had. My name is Beau and I’m a male Boxer/Hound mix

born around the beginning of April 2011. I love to make new friends, play with toys, and get lots of

hugs from humans. I also play well with other dogs. There’s no doubt I’ll be a

well-cherished companion for any family, whether it’s large or small. My friendly, fun and loving personality will be sure

to chase all your blues away. As for my health, I got a great check-up at the vet and am already neutered, vacci-nated and on heartworm prevention. It would be simply

terrific if you and I could meet in person - please call Pen-der County Humane Society at 910-259-7022 and let’s get

started on our new future!

Sponsored in memory of Milo, the big black dog who stole our hearts! Mommy and Daddy miss you

every day!

Awesome Family Dog Alert! My name is Waylon (A055373) and I’m the com-

panion you’re looking for! I’ve got a bunch of fans here at Animal Control who can’t understand why a great boy like me is homeless. I was found as a stray, but I’m al-ready neutered and some-one took the time to teach

me commands. I know how to sit, shake paws, and lay

down. I walk well on a leash and take treats ever so gen-tly from your fingers. My fur

is a beautiful brindle and looks almost like tiger stripes. I’m really handsome! At just 1-year-old, there is lots of time ahead for me to make you very happy. Oh, if you’re wondering how I got my name, I

arrived at the shelter on Waylon Jenning’s birthday. Wouldn’t that be a great story for your friends? You can tell

them all about me after you’ve filled out the adoption pa-pers. Call Brunswick County Animal Control at 910-754-

8204 and let’s get our new life started!

I am sponsored by Adam’s Folly Pet Boarding, Bolivia, NC. Thank you!

Page 33: PawPrints Magazine July 2012

My name is Scrappy and I am a very friendly and loving little girl. I weigh 40 pounds

so I am a mid-sized Lab. I do wonderful with other dogs and cats. I even lived with a couple cats before. I do love my people and I

can bark a lot when they first get home,

so an apartment with thin walls would not be good for me. I also can jump or climb a chain link fence so I will need a pri-vacy fence. When I first came in, I was a mess but the shelter has really worked hard to get me looking healthy and gorgeous like I am now. I have really

blossomed under their care! I am house-trained, too. I am a gentle, sweet girl who would love a home to call my own. I have been homeless since January

when my owners were evicted from our home. Won’t you adopt me and give me the best home I have ever

had? The shelter says I really deserve it. If you would like to know more info about me, please call

Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557.

My name is Melanie. I am

a 10 pound Dachshund who is good

with cats, dogs and kids. I am super - I mean super sweet. I sing to you at dinner time

and also when you come

prancing through the door. I can jump in the air and do a perfect squiggle just to greet you since I am so excited you are home. I am the ultimate lap dog and can give kisses until the cows come home. My eyes speak to you and will melt your heart. My only fault is that I suffer from a seizure disorder. Someone with

experience with this would be helpful. I take medica-tion and it is cheap but I still have some seizures occa-sionally. I am really attached to my people so it would be great if they were home a lot. A quiet, less active home would be ideal due to my disability, but it is not completely necessary since my foster home is quite

active and I am doing well here. For more information on me or to inquire about the adoption process, please

call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557.

Hi there, my name is Sasha! I’m a

12-week-old puppy who arrived at the

shelter with my mother, Louise.

She’s pictured on this page with me. My mom is a Ger-

man Shepherd and I’ve inherited her gorgeous good

looks! We are liv-ing together at the

shelter but, of course, we can be

adopted sepa-rately. Have you been searching for a precious

puppy who will steal your heart? I challenge you to come meet me! I bet I can melt your heart in two seconds flat. I am a playful, affectionate girl who

would make anyone’s life a thousand times happier. I’ve had my first round of puppy shots and am already spayed. I enjoy munching on dog cookies, love to be cuddled and I’m sure I’d get along just fine with other dogs as I’ve had such a great upbringing by my mom. So how about it, won’t you come meet me? Call Pen-

der County Humane Society at 910-259-7022.

Everyone tells me I’m a gor-geous German Shepherd girl!

What do you think? My name is Louise and I’m just 2-years-old. Here you can see a close-up of my face, and in the other photo I am

standing with my puppy, Sa-sha. Sasha and I were

picked up as strays by Pen-der County Animal Control. I had another puppy, too, but when we arrived at the shel-

ter, one of the officers promptly fell in love with her and took her home. A little while later, Pender County

Humane Society met Sasha and me and decided to take us from Animal Control and

into their shelter. Now we are enjoying all the attention and giving lots of love to our new friends. I’m a very friendly,

affectionate girl and I would love to find a brand new home. I hope the same thing for my puppy girl.

Won’t you come meet us? Call Pender County Hu-mane Society at 910-259-7022.

My name is Phoenix and I am a pretty outgoing Calico kitty. I am declawed so I will never scratch your furniture. I came in with two other cats, one solid white who was

also declawed and a solid black one

who was de-clawed, too. The

three of us lost our homes when our

owner had to take a mandatory job

relocation and had to move into an apartment fast with a no pet policy. I am the most outgoing, easy and loveable of the three, but we are all very nice. Please, please hurry and adopt me! If you would like to know more info about me or my siblings or would like to inquire about the adoption process, please

Hello, friends, my

name is Skitters!

I’m a Dachshund/Chihuahua mix - how

can you not love that? I

was res-cued from a miserable

home life in Boiling

Spring Lakes. Not only did the people not take care of me, but I was picked on by other dogs. My legs are kind of

funny looking and I’m also heartworm positive. My friends at Paws Place are going to get me “fixed” (not so sure I like that!) and get me started on heartworm treatment. I really like to be around people. I just need someone to

love me for me! Please come and visit. For adoption in-formation or driving directions, please call 910-845-7297.

I am sponsored by Marybeth and Elliott Tepper in

SOAR (Southport Oak Island Animal Rescue) Please call 910-457-6340 to adopt us!

◄Have you always wanted a Russian Blue? Well, I may not be purebred, but I have that beautiful bluish/grey fur that is so unique and lovely. My name is Fresca and I’m a young 3-year-old girl who was found wandering around Oak Island as a stray. I am a very friendly, loving feline and I enjoy being with other cats. I’m also spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Let’s meet!

▲We are Gabby and Carlos and we can be adopted together or separately! I’m Gabby and I’m laying on top of

Carlos. He’s orange and white and I’m a white/brown Tabby girl! We are both 12-weeks-old and we are very

sweet, precious and playful. Come adopt a kitten!

►You might wonder how a

dog named Pender ended

up in Brunswick County. Well, it’s because

SOAR was kind enough to take

me in when Pender County Animal Control needed to find

places for all its dogs while undergoing renovations. I’m an extremely

loveable mixed-breed boy who just wants attention and affec-tion. I’ve played well with other dogs at the shelter, so if you

have one you’d like me to meet, bring him or her out! The vet estimates I’m around 6-years-old. Won’t you come visit me?

►Can you believe I was once at Animal

Control, running out of time? My new friends at SOAR can’t believe it either - they’re the

ones who rescued me and they say I’m a very sweet, loving boy. I’m

Buddy and I enjoy receiving attention from

humans. I play well with other dogs, too. As for my health, I’ve

been to the vet’s office and am neutered and up to date on all my

vaccinations. They tell me I’m a gorgeous German Shep-herd/Retriever mix. Can I start a new life by loving you?

►Hi there, I’m Betty and I’m a beautiful, sweet girl.

Like a lot of female felines, I became preg-

nant with a litter of kittens and had to raise them on

my own. At least I had my sister to keep me company - she found

herself in the same pre-dicament! She looks like my twin and is also wait-

ing for a loving home. Our kittens are adopted and we need pampering now. You’ll be glad you adopted me, I’m great!

►I’m a Lab mix with a

curly tail and my name is

Bear! If your dog needs a pal, I’d be a good one. I love other dogs and

recently had fun playing with an old friend who

was adopted but who came back for a visit. I’m a young fellow at just 2-years-old and am already neutered, vaccinated and on

heartworm prevention. I love going for walks with my friends at the shelter and sure would love to meet you!

Look at my happy face! You’d never know my

folks dropped me off at Sampson County Ani-mal Control. You see, they were moving to a big, new house and

decided they didn’t want to bring me along. I choose to be positive and believe that my next new family will

never abandon me and will love me forever!

Does that describe the kind of person you are? If so, please come save

me! My name is Cricket and I’m a 3-year-old male Corgie mix. The folks at the shelter want you to know that I’m VERY sweet and af-fectionate. I am black and white, just like an Oreo, and I

appear to get along well with other animals. My neuter sur-gery and parvo vaccination is included in my adoption fee. Please call Sampson County Animal Control at 910-592-

8493. Tell them you saw me in PawPrints!

I am sponsored by Christie Halligan. Thank you!

Hi there, my name is Rebound! I’m a 1-year-old Lab/Shepherd mix boy who

was once running out of time at Animal Control.

Columbus Humane Society knows a life worth saving

when they see one, so they got me out of there and into

a foster home. They say I’m a sweet, big old goof of a boy who needs just a bit of training and guidance to know what is expected of

me. I’m a true sweetheart who is looking for a second chance at life. I’m neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. I love to play, so it’s thought I would probably

chase a cat. I don’t dislike them - I just find them intriguing! My sweet, expressive face could greet you every morning

and we could work together to develop expectations of good behavior, plentiful food, a warm place to sleep and some 70’s rock on the radio. For more information about me, please email [email protected] or call Columbus

Humane Society at 910-619-3015.

◄I’m Rosie! I’m a 35 pound Pug/Chow mix and, at just 4-years-

old, I’m a smart, friendly girl who

would be a great agil-ity dog. I adore chil-dren and am friendly to adult humans as

well! I do have issues with some dogs, but I’m great with cats.

I’m also spayed, vac-cinated and on heart-worm prevention. If

you’d like to meet me, please call Sunburst

today. You and I could be the perfect match, so let’s get started!

◄I’m a happy and sweet Bulldog mix boy named Bradley (A003919) and my fur is the most beautiful brindle color you ever did see. I love all people, am around 2-years-old, and was found as a stray. Adopt me, please! Call Pender County Animal Control at 910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-279-3196 for adoption information!

◄Hi, my name is Remington! I’m a

2-year-old male Irish Setter mix, and I’m a very sweet boy. I’m

great with people and other dogs (but cats I like to chase). I am house-trained and am attending doggy day care. I love to explore in the woods, so if

you’re a hiker we’d be a great match!

I’m very smart, leash-trained and in

great health. Do yourself a big favor and adopt me!

includes medical care and daily maintenance of foster homes. Please go to our website

collectible that can be yours with a dona-tion. Thank you Cheryl Snyder of Snyderneff

Dog Art for your generous contribution.

►Hello, my name is Hero! I was once a shy boy but once my medical issues were taken care of (which included heartworm

disease and decayed teeth) I have become

a human’s “best friend”! I’m a docile, gentle boy who gets along well with other dogs, even the ones who want to be boss. I love to run and play in the yard and I’m

not at all pushy. I’m around 2-years-old

and it’s believed that I’m a Golden/Chow mix. I’m house-trained, crate-trained, up to date on vaccinations, on

heartworm prevention and I will come with a microchip and Smart ID tag from Best Friends. Wouldn’t you like to

meet me? Call 910-622-0011 or visit the Sunburst website at www.sunburstfoundationofwilmington.org.

◄My name is Brad Pitt (A003436) because I’m a handsome blonde look-ing for love. At just 1 to 2-years-old, I’ve got a

lifetime of happiness to share. I have had en-

tropian repair done to my eyes and am now under-going preliminary heart-worm treatment. Any donations toward my care can be made di-rectly to the vet office,

Rocky Point Animal Hos-pital, during business

hours, 910-602-6633, or via our website at www.sunburstfoundationofwilmington.org.

I’ve got a sad story to tell, but you can

provide it with a happy ending! It’s all up to you. You

see, I once was part of a happy home and am 10-years-

old. I expected to be with my special hu-man forever! Then she fell and broke her hip. Now she

must live the rest of her days in a nursing

home and I had to come to the shelter.

My name is Pepper and I’m a very loveable and beautiful boy. I am a great Lap Cat and so friendly. It would make

me and my human so happy if I could be adopted. I’m already neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. All I

need is you! Please call SOAR at 910-457-6340 and tell them you’d like to make my dreams come true.

I am sponsored by SOAR in loving memory of all their

wonderful, furry friends who made it safely to the Rainbow Bridge.

Woohoo! I love to run and play. I’ve got lots of energy. It’s partly because I’m still young, 15-months-old, and partly

because I’m Border Collie/Aussie Shepherd mix. My name is Penny and I was adopted from Pender County, but the

lady who adopted me said that I was too active, so she took me to Paws Place. I’m up to date on all of my shots and

have been spayed. I love car rides and I’m reasonably well behaved. I just need the right family to adopt me – proba-bly one with children that I can run around with in a fenced-in yard. If you think we could be a great match, please call

Paw’s Place at 910-845-7297 and tell them so!

PENDER ENDANGERED ANIMAL RESCUE

I’m Roxy, a red nose Pit Bull but please don’t let my breed scare you. I am very loving

and will be a great addition to your family. Last year I had been placed with a loving

family and they had a young-ster and a newborn that

joined us after I was adopted. So I have been around kids. The reason I came back to

the rescue was because my owner is in the military and

my new family was shipped overseas. I am sad about that. If you are interested in adopting me, you can email [email protected] or call me at PEAR. The

number is 910-675-0867.

Hi, I’m Boots and I’m really cute! My foster mom named me Boots

because my black markings on my feet look like I’m wearing little black boots. I was living outside under someone’s house trying to find

enough food to eat while keeping away from predators like hawks and feral cats. I am so happy indoors in my foster home where I can finally relax and eat all I want! I am very

sweet and friendly and would love to find a forever home indoors like the one I am in right now. I weigh 5 pounds and am neutered. Call 910-471-7854 or email [email protected] to adopt me. You can also visit www.capefearrabbits.org.

PHOENIX LANDING FOUNDATION

My name is Snuggy and I am an Umbrella Cockatoo

posing for you with my beautiful plumage in full display! I am approxi-

mately 30-years-old. My current family believes I

am a female. I have been with them for 10-years but circumstances are forcing them to seek a new loving

home for me. I eat a healthy diet of pellets, Nu-

triBerries and fresh foods. Some of my favorites are corn, bananas, strawberries and I will even eat chicken! Like all

cockatoos, I need frequent baths and will perch in the shower while my owner is showering; I enjoy getting

sprayed with a mist from a spray bottle. I have not spoken words yet but I can meow like a cat and bark like a dog! I

have earned my name because I like to cuddle and snuggle with my owner. I can be extremely loud at times, so I need a home where that will not be a problem (no apartments!) I need a new owner who has had previous experience with

handling large parrots. Won't you consider giving me either a temporary foster or long term adoptive home? I urgently need a new place to stay as soon as possible. To adopt/

foster me or another of the many parrots of all species who are awaiting homes, contact Phoenix Landing at

www.phoenixlanding.org (click on the link for adoption/foster), call 866-749-5634 or you can send an email to

[email protected]. Please check our website regularly for local events by clicking on the "EVENTS" tab.

Hello my name is Miss Katie. I am a 4-year-old female

Retriever and Hound mix. I was wandering the streets very hun-gry and not feeling

well when I was res-cued. I am heart-

worm positive and the nice folks at Furever Friends will provide for my treatment. I just need a loving home and someone to care for me. I love to be around humans and animals, I’m as gentle and sweet as can be, I’m crate-trained and I have some leash-training. Please give me a chance at a better life than the one I had. I promise you will not be sorry. For more info,

call Furever Friends Animal Rescue at 910-383-2100.

CAPE FEAR RESCUE LEAGUE

My name is Scooter and I was born May 2011.

My mom was an "American Bulldog" but I have no idea who’s my dad. I am just a very

loveable guy who loves all other dogs. I have

been around cats and I love to play soccer and I

like to take dips in the water. I'm crate and house-trained. I recently graduated from the "New Leash On life" Prison Program where the inmates train the dogs in Obedience and some Agility. There were three certified trainers who

would go to the prison every week to help train and to over-see the inmates who were doing the training. I have my

AKC (American Kennel Club) certificate and I scored very high during my testing. I'm up to date on all shots, neu-

tered, heartworm free and on monthly heartworm/flea pre-vention. Open up your heart and give me a furever home

by calling Pat at 910-640-1505.

ONSLOW PARTNERS FOR ANIMAL WELFARE

Hi, my name is Odie and I'm a Bull-dog. A nice man found me one day

by the docks where I had been aban-doned. I was very hungry, had lots of fleas and ticks all over me and had not been loved. My foster mom and dad took me in and are giving me lots of

love and attention. The vet thinks I'm about 8-months-old and I have been fully vetted. I'm really a happy-go-

lucky boy who loves to play with other dogs of all sizes. I can be a food hog

so I have to eat in my crate. I'm crate-trained and have done extremely well potty-training. For more info on how

you can adopt me, please call Louria at 910-330-5238 or visit www.petfinder.com/shelters/NC728.html.

PAWSITIVE PARTNERS PRISON PROGRAM

Can you tell I’m taking a bow? This was on stage at my graduation from obedience training with the Pawsitive Partners Prison Program. I can also balance a treat on my nose and lots of other stuff I learned. I’m not sure why I don’t have a home yet - I am a super great dog and very smart. I’m sure you can tell in the photo that I’m trying very hard to do what my trainer wants. My name is Dakota and I’m a

2-year-old male Lab mix. I had a home before and was too rambunc-tious for the mom because she also

had a couple of kids….don’t understand why? We were just having fun running around and chasing each other all the

time. Anyway, If you’d like me for your own just give Monica a call at 910-297-1338 or [email protected]. Better yet, fill out an application at www.montyshome.org.

ONSLOW COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER

Hello, my name is Dallas

(A058280) and I’m in need of assistance. I

recently ended up at the Animal Shelter due to no fault of my own

but none the less I’m here. So

even though this is a nice place

(albeit NOT the Hilton) and folks take care of me here, it is very noisy due to having lots of roommates and some

aren’t as endearing and congenial as I am. I’d truly like to have a family of my own to take care of again. I’m a terrific

female Shetland Sheepdog mix and have lots of special qualities. I’m house-trained, loving, gentle, and good with kids and other animals. I’m the greatest companion ever. I just want the chance to make your family happy with my presence. So stop by the Onslow County Animal Shelter

and ask for me. They’ll gladly bring me out to spend some time with you and by the time I’m finished with our visit,

you’ll know you can’t possibly leave here without me. The shelter is located at 244 Georgetown Road in Jacksonville

and you may call 910-455-0182 for more information.

OPERATION TOPCAT

Hello there! My name is Whiskers

and I was dumped in a restaurant parking lot - right out of my

owner's van. I origi-nally belonged to

someone who had me spayed, vacci-

nated and also micro-chipped. They gave

me to a neighbor when they moved

because I really didn't like their older cat. After I was dumped, the restaurant

contacted Topcat and asked that they take me in because the restaurant is on a busy highway and it wasn’t safe.

Because of my mircrochip, Topcat was able to trace down my original owner who declined to take me back. Having been left by two families, I am looking for a safe and lov-ing forever home. One where I can live out my life with-

out fear of being abandoned again. I am 4-years young, I love people, and I like to be petted and want attention. Maybe you could find it in your heart to adopt me and care for me. I deserve to be loved. I would be best as

the only cat. To find out more about me, send an email to [email protected] or call 910-200-0612.

A SHELTER FRIEND

Gretel is my name, and yes, there once was a Hansel. He was

adopted into a loving forever home, but they only wanted him! I am

heartbroken and don’t understand why my friend has been blessed while I am all alone. I am a good

girl, a gentle girl, with richly-colored markings and the soulful eyes of a Walker Hound. I am spayed and

vaccinated. As you look at my picture remember, no one will ever love you like a dog who was once abandoned.

Call Denise at 910-862-1728 and I will spend the rest of my life making sure you never regret it. Visit us online at

AShelterFriend.org and www.facebook.com/ashelterfriend.

Hey there, I’m Joker! I ar-

rived at Paws Place from

Pender County. They say the way I

was living with 30 or more

dogs was not normal, who knew?!? I’ve gotten used to being around less dogs, but I think I would

like it if my family had another dog for me to hang around with. Possi-bly a small dog. I get nervous in new situations. I have this thing on my eye, they call it cherry eye. Paws Place is go-ing to have it removed and then I’ll be as good as new. I

kind of look like a Beagle/Jack Russell mix. I’m only 2-years-old and 20 pounds. Is there a kind, loving person

who will be very patient with me? If so, contact Paws Place at 910-845-7297 and let’s arrange a get-together!

I am sponsored by State Farm Rob Cutting Agency in

memory of Dingo.

Hey, wanna have some fun? Well then, I’m your girl!

My name is Jeckel and I love

to have fun. Wanna jog, skate-

board, bicycle? Do you like agil-

ity? How about fly ball or dock div-

ing? You name it, I’m up for it!! You see, I’m barely a year old, only 30

pounds and a Terrier mix who just loves action.

I am well behaved though, because I’ve graduated from nine weeks of training with the Pawsitive Partners Prison Program. I haven’t found the right home yet - you see, they are quite particular since I’m such a great dog. Fill

out your application at www.montyshome.org. If you have any questions, call Monica at 910-297-1338 or email

[email protected]

I am sponsored by Dog Speak. A huge thank you to Connie for helping me find a home!

SCHNAUZER RESCUE OF THE CAROLINAS CAROLINA BASSET HOUND RESCUE

Little Orphan Annie B is my name and I'm looking for my Daddy or Momma Warbucks. I find myself

homeless as my owner can no longer care for me. Somewhat sad, yet eter-

nally optimistic - I am a sweetheart blessed with the most Bassety of

features and am in hopes that you can come and rescue me! If you're looking for a sophisticated beauty

with personality to spare who is far from as old as my num-ber, fill out an application and tell them you bet your bottom

dollar, my sun will come out tomorrow! To make me a member of your family, call 919-708-4247 or visit our web-

site at www.cbhr.com. Also, we are extremely short on foster homes! If you have ever thought about fostering

please contact CBHR for more details.

Have you been look-ing for love

in all the wrong

places? Well,

Schnauzer Rescue of the Caroli-nas is the

RIGHT place this summer because

there are lots of tiny little girls need-ing homes. We are Frannie, Misty,

and Hollie, and we are three of twenty-two little Schnauzer mixes

taken in due to a cruelty complaint. We are friendly, trained, and need-ing a home. We are up to date on shots, spayed, micro-chipped, and heartworm negative. Please check

us out and all of our friends at schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org and please fill out an application to

adopt one of us. If you need an application e-mailed or faxed, call 910-264-8300.

CAROLINA POODLE RESCUE

My name is Bailey Pel and I am a wonderful, happy, little Poodle and Chinese Crested Powder Puff mix

and would love to mix right into your home. My begin-nings were really tough as I

came from a Missouri puppy mill, but thanks to my

foster mom, I am learning all about this great, big world. I am still a bit shy with strangers, but warm up with a lot of treats and "good boy." I am house-trained, leash-trained, crate-trained and love to ride in the car. Walks are also a favorite. My ideal home is one that has another dog for a friend. I really don’t understand small children, but love older, responsible kids. If you are the family I have been looking for, please visit www.carolinapoodlerescue.org or

call 864-489-3559. Sure hope I hear from you soon!

SHAR-PEI RESCUE OF VIRGINIA

Hi, I'm Bogey, a sweet, young male Shar-Pei. I'm a friendly, energetic boy and love to play ball. If there is no one to play with, I will throw my ball off the

picnic table and chase it! Want to play with me? Some-times I hop around on two legs

like a kangaroo...everyone thinks this is very funny. I also

love to run, run, run; so a fenced yard would be best for me. I am friendly with every-

one and other dogs. I would love a home that has kids and/or other dogs to play with because I love to play with anyone or anything. I got to go camping on Memorial Day weekend with my foster family. It was SO much fun. I was a great boy travelling, got to stay in a trailer with two other dogs, and even met some other Shar-Pei that I got to play with. My foster mom says that I am one of the sweetest

dogs she has ever met! To learn more about me, see more pictures, or fill out an application, please check out my pro-file at www.sharpeirescueofva.org. You can also call 609-494-0020 or email [email protected] for more

information. Hope to see you soon!

COASTAL CAROLINA BOSTON TERRIER RESCUE

My name is Clyde and I’m a friendly and loving Boston Terrier boy. An old eye injury destroyed the sight in my right eye but the vision loss does not

slow me down one bit! I weigh 26 pounds and am best suited in a home with adults, older children, and pets who do not antagonize or try to en-gage me. I am crate and house-

trained and I like to run the BT500 in the backyard! Could you look past

my eye injury and look deep into my loving personality? I am waiting on

that special loving forever home where I can be the puppy that I never had the chance to be. Please contact CCBTR

at [email protected] or call 252-633-0987.

My name is Ralph and I am one of last year's puppies who was re-

turned when I was 8 to 10-months-old. You see, that happens A LOT. I am good with cats, dogs, kids and

love to play, play, play. I am working on leash-training and some other basic commands. I’m not a cute puppy any-more and that's a set-back, but I am now full

grown and you will know exactly what you are

getting if you adopt me. If you have a lonely dog who needs some exer-

cise, I’m your boy. I would love another dog to tumble and play with.

For more information on me or to inquire about the adop-tion process, call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557.

I am sponsored by Top Toad in the Cotton Exchange in

Downtown Wilmington, NC. Thank you!

Wheee, wanna play with me? My name is Lola and I’m a 4-year-old Shepherd/Lab mix. I am a sweet-loving gal

and I generally get along well with larger,

docile male dogs. I am in a wonderful foster home with Sunburst

Foundation, but I really want a home of my

own. I love to run and play in the yard and

snuggle inside with my humans. I am house-trained, crate-trained,

up to date on vaccines and on heartworm prevention. I do take glucosamine for an old cruciate ligament tear but, as you can see, I get around just fine! When you adopt me, I will come to you with a microchip and Smart ID tag from Best Friends. Please contact Sunburst Foundation for a

“Meet and Greet” with me. Call 910-622-0011 or visit www.sunburstfoundationofwilmington.org and fill out an

adoption application.

I am sponsored by Hank and Grace Harrington. Thank you!

Are you looking for a companion to take on outings to the beach or park? Pick me! I’m Dixie and I love doing stuff like that! I’m a playful girl, but I still know my commands. In fact, I’m sitting on command in my photo. (Just between you and me, I was waiting for them to throw me a tennis ball!) I’m a young girl, 4-years of age, and I’m a total sweetheart. There’s not a mean bone in my body. I’m house-trained, love affection and can’t get enough hugs or kisses. I’m a Terrier mix who is great with children and other dogs (but no cats, please.) I hope after reading this that you can see I’d be an excellent companion, ready-made to move on in with you and start making happy memories! For adoption information, please call SOAR at 910-457-6340. They’ll be happy to give you driv-

ing directions so that you can hop in the car and come meet me!
