It really is Independence Day for me because I just got out of prison! No, it’s not what you think, I am a very good girl; I just went there for training with the

Pawsitive Partners Prison Program. We spend nine

weeks learning all the things needed to be a good companion, like walking on a leash and sitting politely. I have graduated at the top of my class and am ready for my forever home. My

name is Spanky and I’m a young firecracker, just

2-years-old, and I look very much like an American Foxhound! My buddy

Ginger shares my dream of finding a loving family. We both are really good with children, other dogs and cats and have the same

laid-back, loving personalities. She’s just 2-years-old as well and about the same size as me. Either of us would

took us home. We were so tiny that she had to bottle-feed each and

I Was In Last Month’s Issue. I Need to Find a

Alec in the last issue, but it’s been changed.) I’m a

had to settle instead for a couple spins of chasing my tail. Everyone laughed when I did that - I guess I’m just too darn

I’m a Plott Hound – not quite pure, but darned close. I

lived in the woods of Boiling Spring Lakes for at least six

months. My owner must have dumped me and my brother when we were pups and left

us to fend for ourselves. They caught my brother and brought him to Paws Place in August, but it took them until December before they could catch me. They named me

Xena and I am still learning to trust people and can be very skittish. I will run if given the

chance, so I need a high fenced yard and cannot be left alone in it. My friends here have just started to take me to Adoption Days. It’s a little

scary sometimes, but I think I can get used to it. I’m a little over a year old, have been spayed and I weigh about 55 pounds. My brother just recently found his new home, so

easy. I am 6-years-old and lost my home when my owner went into rehab. I am very smart and have a big “knowledge

bump” on my head to prove it. Anyone would be lucky to

and calm, settled dogs. I am past the playful puppy stage so I won’t romp, play or chew shoes or toys. I like the compan-

ionship of other dogs, but not for play.

when it’s time to eat and I go out and jump around in circles. I am a little slow to warm up initially but I get attached and

love the heck out of my humans eventually.

around 25 to 30 pounds so I would be great in an apartment. I am SUPER SMART, too. I al-ready know sit, lay down, shake

and can almost do rollover. I absolutely love children, I am

and I were at Animal Control. She was

for sure! I was not always this way as I was forced to live the first five years

of my life on a chain. I came into rescue a mangled

shocked when a mini-Schnauzer popped out from under all of that. I am so glad to be off of that chain and I am now ready for my own home. My name is Smokey

and I am six years old and weigh 25 pounds. I am a gor-geous boy with silky grey hair and the trademark Schnau-

zer beard. I am house-trained, crate-trained, and walk well on a leash. I currently live with three Bassett Hounds

and love to play with them but I can be a little alpha to strange dogs outside of my home. I would like to be an

◄Would you believe some-one moved off and left us be-hind? Not only us, they left our seven kittens,

too! Some peo-ple are just

heartless! We don’t remember

which kittens were mine and

which were Winky’s, but they’re all grown now so we’re looking for new homes. I’m Whitney, the long-haired pastel Calico on the

left and the Torti next to me is my sister, Winky. We would love to stay together though we would understand if we

can’t. Both of us love people, but not other cats, so if you have an empty lap that needs a cat, come meet us.

►I am named after a Scot-

tish king, Duncan,

which should be no sur-prise as I

have a royal look, and

even some red hair!! I am a great

cat and only a couple of

years old. I love people and they love me. I really don’t like being in this shelter and with royal blood, I shouldn’t be. Come take me

away from these peons.

►If you don’t know what a Nixie is, let me tell you. It is a mythi-cal feminine spirit of

fresh waters in sacred springs and rivers. An

appropriate name for a kitty from an area

with so much water, don’t you think? I am

an 8-month-old, pastel Calico. Like any

mythical spirit, I can be a little bit shy at

first, but I love to be petted and have my

head rubbed.

tiny white spot next to

my right eye, just like a

little beauty mark. I am

very shy at first but if you give me some time I’ll warm up, just like the hot chocolate, and I’ll cuddle in your arms.

Just because I am so wild and wooly looking! I am a 4-year-

old brown Tabby and

Maine Coon mix. I crave so much attention

that I’ll wear your arm out petting me. I do get along

well with other cats if you want me to share, but I am happy being the

only one as well.

moon. I got my name in a rather unusual way. A kind gentleman

found me in Boil-ing Spring Lakes and asked Paws

Place to help me. Paws Place decided to let their 1000th “like” on Facebook name me. Not only did she give me a

pretty name, she came out to meet me, too. I’m a Hound mix who will probably be about 40 pounds. I’m also heartworm negative and up to date on all my shots. I’m sweet, loving

Bow Wow Luau & Cat’s Meow Mark your calendars for Saturday, July 28 beginning at 6pm for this year’s Bow Wow Luau & Cat’s Meow, a FUN-raiser to benefit the animals of Adopt-An-Angel. This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever and will be held at Banks Channel Pub & Grille in Wrightsville Beach! In addition to the main event, there will be a pre-party event for children that will include all kinds of fun and games. During the hours of 1pm and 4pm, participants can enjoy limbo contests, hula dancing, and face painting for children for only $5 per person at the door. Doors will reopen at 6pm for the evening’s main event. Banks Channel Pub & Grille will be the great location of the Bow Wow Luau again this year. Enjoy the fantas-tic authentic Hula performances, in addition to Cultural Polynesian Kaliwali Arnis Performance Art fire dancing. As always, The Bow Wow Luau & Cat’s Meow will fea-ture many incredible live and silent auction items to bid on. because I really didn't like their older cat. After I was dumped, the restaurant

contacted Topcat and asked that they take me in because the restaurant is on a busy highway and it wasn’t safe.

Because of my mircrochip, Topcat was able to trace down my original owner who declined to take me back. Having been left by two families, I am looking for a safe and lov-ing forever home. One where I can live out my life with-
