Are you ready to welcome the Best Companion Ever into your home? No, it’s not an exaggeration. Keep reading to find out why! My name is Caine and I’m an American

Bulldog boy. At 11-years-old, I may be considered a senior, but I’m young at heart and my mind is sharp as a tack. I love going for walks on the

beach with my foster mom or strolls around the neighborhood. I still love to play fetch with the ball, too. I may tire a little sooner than those

younger pups, but not by much! Car rides with my humans are always fun, and so is sleeping in

bed with them at night. I am a super-duper cuddle buddy! My foster mom wants you to know that I’m

100% house-trained and have never had an accident. I’m never destructive either, just the

perfect house guest! Since I’m looking for a quiet life, I’d prefer a home with no other animals or small children. Older kids 10-years and up are

fine. A retired couple whose grandkids visit every now and then would be perfect companions for me! So would a single man or woman who is looking for a devoted best friend. I’m just a

wonderfully sweet boy who needs a person or family to love. My playfulness, my expressive

face, and my joyful spirit will all make you forget my age. (And yes, I’ve been to the vet and passed

all my medical tests with flying colors.) If you’d like to meet me, please call Pender Perfect Pets at 910-538-0106. I’m a darling boy with a loving

soul and I just know you’ll see that once we meet. I’d like to thank my wonderful foster mom for

bringing me to the photo shoot (those are her feet on the cover!) and I’d like to thank Dick Parrott for

capturing my happy nature with his camera. Remember, being a senior dog means I have

years of experience in the fine art of friendship. You’ll love me, but I’ll love you even more.

My name is Alexis and I am a “Plain

Jane” kind of Tabby cat.

That must be why I keep

getting over-looked. Those adopter peo-ple have no

idea what they are missing out on when they pass me

by. I am sweet, gentle, and I love to

be pampered and doted on. When my family comes along and finds me, they will be the lucky ones because I will

rescue them. Everyone who knows me has fallen in love with me. Please make an appointment to meet me. If you would like to know more information about me or to inquire about the adoption process, give Adopt-An-ANGEL a call

at 910-392-0557. You may also visit us online at www.adoptanangel.net for more details.

I am sponsored by Perry Davis. Thank you!

Hi, my name is Sweetie Pie

because I am just that, a sweet-heart! I came

from the Duplin County shelter a few months ago and I had been used for nothing but breeding in

my past life. Those days are over and now I

am just patiently waiting for my

furever home. I am about 2-years-old and I LOVE people. I would prefer a home with no small dogs or kitties, but a

home with a male dog would be perfect! I have been com-pletely vetted and I have learned some fun commands like ‘sit’ and ‘lay down’. I really am such a good girl and I would

be forever grateful if you considered me as your new fur kid. To meet me, please call my friend Lani at 910-599-1712 or you can call Leanne with Pender Perfect Pets at

910-538-0106 anytime! I will see you soon, right?!

I am sponsored by my loving rescuer Lani Wagner. Thank you!

Look at these amazing ears! My

name is Chuck and at 9-months of age, I’m looking for my

forever home. I was rescued by Pine Val-ley Animal Hospital 3-

months ago. I was found on the streets

with a broken leg. They fixed my leg, neutered me and brought me up to date on vaccinations. I am a very adorable

and sweet boy. I have even been through puppy training class. I’m being fostered right now and share my foster home with

other dogs and cats. Please call R.A.C.E. at 910-547-2839 to adopt me.

Sponsored in loving memory of Roxy.

URGENT, URGENT! My Time Is

Running Out! Hi there, my name is

Ace (A000154)! I’m a 7-year-old Golden Re-triever/Shepherd mix. I’m a big boy, but an absolute doll baby! I greet everyone with a ‘woof’ and long, wet

kisses. I roll over on my back, too, so you can

have access to my belly. Love those belly rubs! I was picked up by Animal Control and

my owner was found but he never claimed me. So this is your lucky day! I’m a fabulous fellow and very handsome, I must say. Oh yes, I’m great with other dogs and I love children. I’m just a laid-back, charming fellow. My adop-tion fee includes Distemper/Parvo vaccine, Kennel Cough

vaccine, Rabies Vaccine, deworming, 30 day flea/tick treatment and my neuter surgery! The shelter is now open on Sundays, from 1pm to 4pm, in case you can’t

come during the week. It’s also open on Saturdays from Noon to 4pm. For more information, please call Pender

County Animal Shelter at 910-259-1484 or email [email protected]. Could you give me a

new family to love?

I am sponsored in appreciation of everyone who has rescued a homeless animal.

URGENT, URGENT! Why Am I Running

Out of Time? Hi there! My name is

Kodiak (A011796) or you can call me Kodi for short!

I’m a sweet, 8-year-old Siberian Husky mix with one brown eye and one

blue eye. My owner was so sad to bring me to Ani-

mal Control. She had terri-ble allergies and couldn’t keep me, but wanted eve-ryone to know that I am an

AWESOME companion and a joy to have in the

house. I’m house-trained, crate-trained, not hyper at all, just an overall great boy! I listen well and sit on command, as you can see from my

photo. An anonymous donor has already paid my adoption fee, so you don’t have to even worry about that! I am

heartworm positive, but I hope that won’t deter you from adopting me. I’ll bring you so much love and so much hap-piness, every moment with me will be worth it! The shelter

is now open on Sundays, from 1pm to 4pm, in case you can’t come during the week. It’s also open on Saturdays

from Noon to 4pm. For more information, please call Pender County Animal Shelter at 910-259-1484 or email [email protected]. I hope to see you soon!

I am sponsored by Happy At Home Pet Sitting in

memory of BEAR.

I am the small dog you have been looking for!

My name is Sandy and I am recovering

from an itchy, unsightly bout of mange - which by the way, is not con-

tagious. I am fun-loving and just a little bit ornery - I like to take your clothes,

socks, and shoes and hide them around the

house. Don’t you think that might be YOUR

FAULT, foster parents, for leaving them around? I am around 1-year-old, a Labrador Retriever mix, and I was

surrendered by my owner to Columbus Humane Society. Treating my skin condition was more than my former owner could handle so he gave me to someone who could. I am getting prettier every day, and I would love another dog or

child to play with. I enjoy chasing balls and toys and will do it all day long if you have that kind of time. I weigh approxi-mately 35 pounds and won’t get much bigger. I love people and don’t mind cats. Some may say that I’m not perfect but I’m hoping that I’ll be perfect for you! Come check me out! I am at Petsmart most Saturdays or you may contact my

foster mom via email at [email protected] or by phone at 910-619-3015.

I am sponsored by Top Toad in the Cotton Exchange in

Downtown Wilmington, NC. Thank you!

Today I witnessed something extremely

sad, but I do know for a fact that I can remedy

the situation. I saw lots of people strolling by

my condo today at the shelter, and the look of anguish on their faces

told me their story. Therefore, today, I need to save a human and I can accomplish that

feat by coming into their life of pain and loneli-ness and help them

experience the pure joy of my unconditional

love. I will love them to the very end. I’m just the feline to be able to pull off this particular rescue mission. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tux (A074751) and I am a 3-year-old, neutered, Domestic Short-Haired love muffin. I’ve been here at the shelter since March 25, so I need to

share a home with you. Please come by the Onslow County Animal Shelter, visit with me in person and see what a terrific feline I am. Allow me to rescue you from

your mediocre life. You’ll never regret your decision! The shelter is located at 244 Georgetown Road in Jacksonville.

To adopt me, please call 910-455-0182.

I am sponsored in loving memory of Serena, a wonderful cat.

Our names are Bravo and Echo. We are just over 2-years-old and are Anatolian Shepherd mixes rescued

from Afghanistan. We have been fostered and trained to-gether for the last 2-years at Paws Training Center in Wil-mington and would love to stay together if possible. We

have medium to high energy levels and prefer to be in the company of each other and our own people. We are calm and easy dogs who love to play but we must have a fenced yard. We would do best in a home without small children

or other dogs as we have only known each other. We weigh between 75 to 80 pounds and know basic com-

mands such as sit, down, stay, wait, kennel, eat, roll, come, place, and jump on!! We are very ready for our furever

home - we’re neutered, crate and house-trained, and heart-worm negative. We are both wonderful and obedient com-panion dogs who will serve you with faithfulness and loy-

alty. To adopt us, call Onslow County Partners for Animal Welfare at 484-883-3552 or email [email protected].

You can find an application at www.oc-paw.com.

I am sponsored by Dotty Ann Harding.

Hi, my name is Belinda. I am a beautiful, long-haired, fe-male Calico who is already spayed. I was born in Decem-

ber, 2010. I was rescued and given to Carolina Animal Pro-tection Society (CAPS) after a nice lady saw me searching for food. I am shy until I get to know you and know that I

can trust you (not everyone is nice to a "stray" so I flinch if you reach for me too quickly). I get along well with other cats and enjoy hanging out with my foster mom. I brush

against my foster mom's legs when I want attention. I love having my back scratched. I hope to find a patient and com-passionate family because I really want to be loved. I would love a forever home with lots of love. If you are interested in me or have additional questions, please contact Debbie at

910-330-1376, email her at [email protected], or visit our website at www.capsrescue.com.

►Just look at my sweet face! My name is Chelsea and I am a wonderful middle-aged

girl. I am super healthy and passed my vet

exam with flying colors. I’ve been spayed and

I’m current on vaccina-tions. I am wonderful

with other animals and kids, too. I walk well

on a leash and am pretty laid-back and easy. All I need is a nice bed to sleep on

and someone to love me. I am mid-sized at

approximately 35 pounds. Any takers?

►My name is Tami and I am the cutest little Pitbull

you will ever come across. Check out my

floppy ears. Aren’t they just adorable? I will have

to grow into them. I am about 4-months-old and I am a playful, fun girl who enjoys life. I do well with other dogs and am work-

ing on crate-training. I am energetic and I am a full blown puppy. I have

already been fixed and I’m current on age appro-

priate vaccinations.

◄My name is Naomi and I am a super sweet Pitbull. I was used for breeding and when my owner was done with me, he kept one of my puppies and took me to Ani-mal Control. Real stand up

guy, you know? I am a good dog and I’m looking for a good

forever home this time! I promise to shower you with doggie kisses and uncondi-tional love. I am vaccinated

and have been spayed, so no more puppies for me! I am currently living with another

dog in my foster home so I seem to do well with other dogs. I will need to go to someone with experience with my breed.

◄Hello everyone! I'm Skipper and I’m a 3-year-old male Jack (Parson) Rus-sell Terrier mix. Spend just a little time with me and you'll see what a truly awesome and well-rounded little fellow I am! Intelligent, cheerful, calm, re-laxed and ready to be your very best friend, I'm quite the catch. The volun-teers just love me! Please come out and see if I'm your next family member!

◄My name is Mesha. I am a

sweet, laid- back, and quiet girl. I would be a great addition to any home. I am very well

mannered and gentle, and an all-around love bug!! I seem to

do well with anyone and

everything. I have that grateful stray spirit and will just love you unconditionally if you give me a chance.

►My name is Loverboy and I am true to my

name. I am love-able and a real gem. I do well with all kinds of dogs, I’m good with cats, and I even like kids. I

am house-trained and really laid-back. I am a

Hound dog and my foster mom says there are two kinds of Hounds: lazy or crazy. I am the lazy kind. Look at how cute this picture is with my tongue hanging out. I am a happy-go-lucky boy and I’ve already been

neutered and vaccinated.

Page 10: PawPrints Magazine June 2014

My name is Blaze and I am a handsome Labrador

Retriever and Pitbull boy of 8-months. You can see by my distinctive face why I am called Blaze! I’m fully vetted, heartworm nega-tive, weigh approximately

40 pounds, crate and house-trained, and have been working very hard

with my trainer (Gemma) at Paws Training Center in Wilmington. The com-

mands I follow are sit, stay, kennel, off, up, down, quiet - I told you I was special!! I would love to continue to work hard with my forever family, bonding closer and learning even more com-

mands. I love children and other dogs and, to be hon-

est, I really love lots of attention! I love to run and play so a solid wood or electric fence would be key. If you would like to adopt me, please

call Onslow County Partners for Animal Welfare at 484-883-3552 or email [email protected] and we will arrange a

meeting at Paws Training Center in Wilmington. You won't be disappointed.

I am sponsored by Dotty Ann Harding.

Hi, my name is Bubba Squeaker! I am the most loving thing you could know. I love head rubs with a butt

scratch at the same time. I am not a kitten but I sure act like one. I am only 5½-years-old. I get along great with lazy dogs and playful cats, but the kitties I live with are

seniors and just do not want to play with me. It stresses them out, so my mom has made the difficult decision to find me a new home and I have watched her cry over it. But to make me happy and everyone else, she has de-cided to find me a loving, indoor-only home. I have had all my vaccines and, of course, I’m neutered. I also am

on good flea stuff, so please call if you want to know more. The numbers to call are 910-619-6363 or

910-769-2891. Thanks, Squeak.

I am sponsored in memory of my brother, Conan, and all rescues given a chance.

Testimonials from a few of our clients:

"We have had nothing but great experiences with Home-aide pet sitting services. They have always been available to watch our three dogs and made it a smooth and easy process each time. We always feel comfortable leaving our dogs in their care, and it's great they come to our home so our dogs don't have to leave their comfort zone while we are away. We know they enjoy spending time with our dogs and would highly recommend their services." Nick & Jami L (Avendale/Hampstead)

"Home-aide Pet Sitting Services is awesome! I really appreciate all the extra attention they gave my two dogs. One of my older dogs got really sick while we were away, and they went out of there way to take extra care of her- Patty actually spent the night at my house to make sure she was ok. Thank you Home-aide Pet Sitting for loving "my girls" like they were your own. You all really are great and true animal lovers!" Jessica A (Belvedere Plantation/Hampstead)

"Great pet-sitters! I've used them many times--sometimes on pretty short notice--and they've always been able to accommodate. I know that my kitties are in good hands when I need to go out of town." Patricia N (Neighbor- hoods of Holly Ridge/Holly Ridge)

Hi, I’m Julius, a 2-year-old, 70 pound

German Shepherd!

Don’t I look re-gal? I’m

smart as a whip, too. Unfortu-

nately, my prior

owner didn’t care much to

work with me and

either kept me at home or at doggie daycare, so I have developed a case of “stranger danger”. Last year, she turned me over to my day-

care, asking that I be re-homed. Over the past 6-months, I have been working with Sherri, a wonderful trainer, who will

continue to work with me during and after the adoption process so that you and I may become fast friends. I’m in need of a

strong, but patient handler who enjoys continuous training and lives an active lifestyle who doesn’t mind having me as their only pet. Please contact Sherri at 910-264-1214 or email

[email protected] for more info.

I’m so beautiful I needed a close-up

shot...but I also want you to meet my darling kittens! They are sure

to grow up into cats just as lovely as me. My name is Angela. My

story begins a bit sad as I was left behind when the people I lived with

moved away. They left me there - alone, preg-

nant and scared! Thank goodness for the sweet and kind real estate agent who discovered me and my six adorable newborn babies. She brought us all to live at SOAR until we find our for-ever homes. I am approxi-mately 1 to 2-years old. I am a precious girl, pure-white in color. I have a

calm disposition and I love affection! I, along with my kittens, will be available for adoption mid-July. But, in

the meantime, you can come meet us and fill out a pre-adoption application! For driving directions or more

information, please call SOAR at 910-457-6340.

We are sponsored by Cindy Meyers in loving memory of Harley and Murphy.

Cat Tails

◄Looking for that declawed cat? Well, if you’re one of those people

who wants the cat, but let’s

just say you’re afraid of claws -

maybe some childhood inci-dent that left

you a little skit-tish? Well,

mine are gone so I guess we would be a perfect match. My requirements are no other animals - that includes cats, dogs, ferrets, rats, snakes, etc. - and I’m not really fond of small humans, also

known as children. So if I match your requirements and you match mine, let’s get together. I am 3½-years-old and black

and white. Ask for me, Rosie.

◄Stop Monkey-ing around and just adopt me! After all, I am a seal-point Himalayan - just what everyone

wants even more than that Maine Coon Mix! I am 6-years-old and I don’t really like other kitties because they always seem to pick on me. Maybe they are just jealous be-

cause I am so beauti-ful. I did have an old

eye injury when I was a kitten but it doesn’t cause me any problems. So elevate your game with a beautiful cat!

►Originally, I was named Itsy-Bitsy, because I was the

“tiniest” little gray kit-ten. Now as I’ve got-ten a little older, and a

wee bit bigger, they shortened it to Bitsy. I am a beautiful, gray

6-month-old kitty, who likes to be the

observer, not the insti-gator. I love to play

with the other kittens, but really just like my one-on–one time with humans, one of which could be you.

And I wouldn’t be insulted if you changed my name!

◄I’m Chico the man, well, really the boy. One day I’ll be a man, but for now, I’m just a lad. I am a beautiful 9-month-old buff male. I

love to play and can enter-tain myself, but I am a little

shy. The other kitties bullied me when I was younger and

I am just getting over it. I get more confident everyday and, with your special touch,

I will become that wonderful Chico the man.

►I’m named after Dudley Moore, ‘cause I’m sweet, cute and loveable! I am a snuggler

extraordinaire. Somehow I was overlooked when I was a kitten, so at 8-months-old I’m

considered “old”. Really? Eight-months is old? Those

kitten hunters have made a big mistake and their loss will be your gain, because no one is more loving than me. Come

take a test drive and see.

◄Shakti is the concept, or per-sonification, of divine feminine creative power. With that in mind, how can you go wrong? I am a 3-year-old, white and Tabby girl. I love people and people love me! With that kind of personality I’m not real big on other cats, and well, I need to be in charge. So if you understand the strength and power of the feminine way, let’s hang out to-gether and reach for a new high.

►Everybody wants a Maine Coon Mix, so

why am I still hanging around? Probably be-

cause I am shy and don’t come running up

to people to greet them. I like people but I am a little timid. My name is Hanna and I am about 2½-years-old. I really

don’t like dogs - probably because I was chased by some at some time in my life. I try to block all of that out. Please give me a try, timid kitties want homes, too.

Hi, my name is Dexi! I am a very loving girl who, un-fortunately, is back with C.A.R.E. after my furever home

didn’t turn out to be forever. My new family had some

personal issues and could no longer

take care of me. I am spayed, micro-chipped, great with people and other dogs. I was origi-

nally surrendered to C.A.R.E. with de-modex (mange)

and worms, but my friends took care of

me and now I am looking good and feeling great! If you are interested in adopting me, call 910-256-2624. You can also

come by to visit me during business hours.

I am sponsored by Atlantic Animal Hospital who supports Coastal Animal Rescue Effort (C.A.R.E.).

Hello, named after my white paws - Sox - I have been a resi-dent at C.A.R.E. for

awhile because I had some seizures. I also had an injury

to my tail so it's very short now. I am such a good kitty

that I take my medi-cation with ease

every day and have had no further epi-

sodes of seizures. I am 6-years-old and I love to snuggle any-

time! If you are someone in need of

snuggles, then please see the appli-

cation and the re-quired specifications before applying at carewilmington.org.

If you have any questions, please call 910-256-2624.

◄I was found as a stray, but I’m such a friendly and loving girl! Folks think my owners might have moved away and left me, which is a real shame. My name is Kitty and I’m a young girl at just 3-years-old. I get along just fine with other cats and I even am happy around dogs. I’m in great health and I also have a carrier that comes with me. I’m a bonafide sweetheart, adopt me!

▲I sure am hoping to be laying at your house just like this! My name is Xena and I’m a 1½-year-old girl who is a new arrival at the shelter. I once lived in a home, but the other kitty there didn’t like her own kind. Now I’m waiting for a new family to come along and so far

I’m doing just swell with the other felines. I’m a spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained girl who loves to be petted and snuggled. I have beautiful markings - orange and black - and I’m ready to make you happy!

◄Where are all the people who love orange Tabby boys? Aren’t you out there? My name is Larry and I’m managing to make the best of my current situation with my upbeat and very friendly personality. I’ve become best friends with Rocco, pictured below. Just a thought, but maybe you’d like to adopt Rocco and I together! We sure do get along well. I’m a 1-year-old, darling boy and I’m ready to go home.

▼Hello! My name is Rocco and I’m a little boy, just 2-years-old. I once had a home but the other cat didn’t take a liking to me. It’s odd, because I get along great

with other felines! I play

very nicely with the other kitties at the shelter. In

fact, one of my best friends is Larry, who is also pictured on this page. I’m used to

living indoors-only, and I’m a

very friendly and loving lap cat. If you’re ready to feel special and adored, be

sure to come adopt me!

◄The white patch of fur be-tween my eyes is shaped just like a diamond. So, naturally, that became my new name: Diamond! (Good thing it wasn’t a square - that just doesn’t sound as cool.) I’m a 1-year-old boy who is used to living inside-only. I’m good with other cats and even dogs. I also am used to being around kids. Please adopt me, I’m a great boy!

Hello, friends, my name is Bailey! I’m a

6-year-old, spayed female Bloodhound and I have a very

sweet and happy dis-position. I lost my

home when my own-ers moved away, so I’m hoping someone reading this will want a gorgeous girl like me to light up their life! I am friendly to kids and I like cats.

I’m used to living and sleeping in the house with my family, and I

also enjoy playing outdoors in a fenced-in yard. I can sit on command and am happy to meet all new people. I give folks at the shelter the impression that I will settle in well

anywhere. It’s obvious that I would love companionship to enjoy. I do weigh in at 120 pounds so that will have to be a consideration in my new home. For adoption information, call the New Hanover Humane Society at 910-763-6692 .

my affection, so please hurry on out and meet me! For driving directions or more information, please call Brunswick County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services at 910-754-8204. Thanks for

◄I’m a very unique and gorgeous female cat named Jenny (A305074). My fur is an exotic mixture of silver and charcoal. I’m just 3-years-old, spayed, vaccinated and very pa-tient. In fact, I came to the shelter with a litter of ba-bies in tow. I was a very good mom to them and now I hope to find a very good mom (or dad) of my own. If you are interested in adopting me, you’d bet-ter hurry on up!!

◄Blah, blah, blah...you know the

story...stray animal found at an apart-

ment complex after someone moved and left them behind. My name is

Lexi (A304649)

and my story is one that has become way too common in today’s world. I’m a very sweet, 2-year-old girl who loves head rubs. I’m very affectionate and charming but I am

finding it uncomfortable being here at the shelter in a cage. Would you please come save me?

►My name is Cameron (A304477) and my own-ers did the unthinkable. They moved away and left me behind. Fortu-nately, an Animal Con-trol officer picked me up

and saved my life. Now, I just need to find my forever family that I (like all of the other ani-

mals here) so very much deserve. I’m a 3-year-old, neutered

and declawed boy who is current on vaccina-tions. I’m a big kitty

who loves being rubbed. I’m ready to be outta here and resting safely in your home.

I can’t wait to show you how loving I can be.

▲KITTEN SEASON HAS BEGUN! We are sweet, baby kitties (A303753, A304718, A304674, A304639 & A305068) looking for families! There are tons of us love-filled, playful furballs here at the shelter. We all have different stories; there are boys and girls; there are gray ones, orange ones, Tabbies, black and white ones and even a polydactyl kitty

with a short nubbin’ tail! Stop by the shelter today and make a lifetime commitment to one of us.

►Labraborable! That’s what I am. Any Lab

lover will fall head over heels in love with me.

My name is Pawla (A304247) and I’m a

2-year-old faithful companion. If you will

look past my plain black fur, you will find

your new bestest friend. I know how to sit on command, I’m already spayed and

vaccinated, and I love playing with toys of all

kinds - balls and squeaky toys are my

favorites. I am always ready for fun and adventure but am also content to just lay

by your feet and entertain myself with toys. Please give me the chance to fill your life with adventure, laughter and love.

Let me be your lucky charm! I'm Seamus

(pronounced “SHAY-

mus”). If you think

that I have the sweetest face you've ever seen, my person-ality is even more awe-some, and

that's no blarney! I'm 5-months-old, a mere broth of a boy, and you could say I look like a wee St. Bernard mixed with a Blue Tick hound. In other words, I am very special - and

my coloring is beyond description! Visit our webpage at www.montyshome.org or our Facebook page -

facebook.com/montyshome - to see me in living color, ‘cause you will be impressed! I am neutered and up to date on all shots and am on heartworm prevention. I'm

being trained at the Pender Correction Institution for who-ever is lucky enough to adopt me. I know how to walk nicely on a leash, I love people and other dogs, and I'm smart as a whip: I know my obedience commands and

would love to show them to you. You will truly find your pot of gold at the end of the rainbow if you give your heart to

me! Call 910-297-1338 or email [email protected].

I am sponsored by Kay Ballard in loving memory of MacKenzie the Red.

URGENT, URGENT!

My Time Is Running Out! I hope my sad,

brown eyes are tug-ging at your heart-strings! I need all the help I can get. My name is Luke

(A012288) and I’m a young, male Walker

Hound who was found as a stray. It’s quite over-

whelming here at the shelter with all the different sights and sounds, and I sure do hope to be

in a home soon. One thing I enjoy, though, is being around the other dogs. Do you have a dog who might like to be pals with me? I’ve been living here since April 30, so

I pray you’ll decide to come visit me soon. My adoption fee includes Distemper/Parvo vaccine, Kennel Cough vac-

cine, Rabies Vaccine, deworming, 30 day flea/tick treat-ment and my neuter surgery! The shelter is now open on Sundays, from 1pm to 4pm, in case you can’t come during the week. It’s also open on Saturdays from Noon to 4pm.

For more info, please call Pender County Animal Shelter at 910-259-1484 or email [email protected].

◄My name is Willard. The lady who found me

thought I was near death. I could barely hold my head up and when she

took me home, I slept for 24 hours. She contacted

Paw’s Place and they took me in. Now I think I’m at

the Ritz! Meals and water, but the most important is

love – everyone is so nice and I just melt when they pay attention to me – which is a lot! Oh, and I love playing with the other dogs. I’m less

than a year old and will probably be about 40 pounds. I’m healthy, heartworm free and neutered. I just want to be

loved and in a good home – can you give me that?

◄I’m Marley! At just 10-weeks of age, I’m a

little ball of energy when I’m awake, but I look

like an angel when I’m asleep. I arrived at Paw’s

Place just a short while ago. I’m learning a lot at my foster mom’s house.

She has other small dogs who are teaching me how to behave. I’m really very smart – I’m getting pretty

good at the bathroom stuff, so I know I can learn commands, too. What do you say – do you want to take a chance and spend the next

12-years of your life being loved by little ol’ me?

▲Hi, I’m Mama Lara. People say I’m beautiful and treat me very kindly. This has been a new experi-ence for me – learning to trust people. I arrived at

Paw’s Place with four puppies, each one now has a loving home. We guess I’m about 6-years-old and weigh about 75 pounds. I still frighten easily so the family that wants to share their life with me will have to be very patient. Won’t you come visit me? I’ll be

waiting in the first kennel – you can’t miss me!

◄Hi! I was found on Valen-tine’s Day two years ago – so that’s my name, Valentine. I’m

35 pounds, up to date on shots and on heart-

worm prevention. We think I was born in early

2011. I’m very friendly and I really love people. I enjoy going to Meet &

Greets. I get along with most dogs, so if you already have a four-legged family member, I’d like the chance to see how we would do together. Please come meet me!

◄It’s me, Belle. Yes, you have seen me before. No

one understands why I haven’t been snatched up and added to a loving fam-

ily. In spite of my rough beginning, I love every per-son I meet and every dog that comes my way. I am a very gentle soul. Paw’s Place has taken care of

me and I am in good health. I’ve started heart-worm treatment and am

vaccinated and spayed (no more babies for me). While I love to run and play, I am also a cuddler who loves belly rubs. I’m still a baby

at heart at 3-years-old. Come on out and visit me!

◄My name is Ruger. Some nice people found me

a few months ago. They tended to my needs and treated

me for heartworms. I’m a 4-year-old Lab mix who is

ready and waiting for just the right

family. I’m a social butterfly who walks very well on a leash and I know how to sit and shake. But most of all, I just want to hug and kiss everybody – super Lovebug – that’s me. I’m currently at

my foster family’s home so if you want to meet me, please call Paw’s Place and make arrangements. Everyone says

I’m awesome – come find out for yourself!

great pets for the right family! We are Dad and Son, yet we do not have to be adopted together. Neither of us is more than 3-years-old and we get along very well with each other and other dogs. ALERT! I’m a little miss

named Miss Priss! I was found as a stray with a leash drag-ging behind

me. As sweet and

affectionate as I am, it

seems someone would be

missing me, but no one

has come to claim me. My friends at the shel-

dogs. I love all people, too! And as for my health, I’m spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. Won’t you come meet me today? We can go for a

walk together and I can show you what an excellent companion I’d be! Call Pender Humane Society at 910-259-7022 for directions or more information.

Kittens, Kittens!! We are adorable 12-week-old, playful little girls. We eat on our own, are litter-trained and hand-raised so we are extra sweet and cuddly. Our

mommy died suddenly when we were one day old. We only weighed 2 ounces. Now, we are spunky and

friendly and were raised with other dogs so we are not fearful. My name is Spice Girl and I am the dark one and Princess is the other little girl because she is so

very gentle. This is a collage picture of us growing up… how precious! If you would like to adopt us, call Onslow County Partners for Animal Welfare at 484-883-3552 or email [email protected]. You can find an application

I’m BooBoo and I do believe that I’m the Perfect Family Dog you’ve been waiting for! I was once the

much-loved compan-ion of Pender Humane Society’s Shelter Man-

ager, Deb Rye, who passed away sud-

denly in January. My mom Deb had me

since I was 1-year-old (I’m 11 now) and I’ve never known anything but love. It’s all I have

to give, too. I’m a wonderfully friendly girl who lived with

other dogs and cats and I even got along great with the ducks and geese on our property. Small chil-dren and big children are A-ok with me, too - nothing upsets my laid-back and relaxed nature. I’m house-trained, leash-trained, spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. I’m an affectionate and well-behaved Shepherd mix who is just waiting to be part of a family again. It would make my mom so happy to know that I’m being cared for and loved. Can you make my dream come true? I promise, you’ll be

well-rewarded with a very wonderful companion. Please call Pender Humane Society at 910-259-7022 for more info.

HELP!!! It's Kitten Season!

Each year too many unwanted kittens are born outside in the rain and cruelty of their surroundings, and each year Friends of Felines (FOF) volunteers and caregivers are

out in force trying to prevent these unwanted births through a managed trap/neuter/vaccinate and return program. For years, FOF has teamed up with local

adoption groups to try to get these young feral kittens out of colonies and into foster care, but there are just not

enough homes for everyone.

Please support us on our mission to reduce unwanted births so no kitten has to survive outside, dodging cars

and wondering where its next meal is coming from.

Hi, my name is Steven and I’m a 5-month-old Boxer mix.

I went shopping for a new family but could not find one. I was found as a stray, thin and malnourished, but I’m

healthy as can be now. I am living in a foster home where I’m learning house manners and basic commands. I’m current on all vaccinations, neutered and have a micro-chip. I love children, playing

Hi, it’s me again. My name is Lady and I’m on the Miss

Avis Davis Fund Page again! Thanks Miss Davis, but, gee, isn't there someone out there

to take me home? I'm a black and white Lab mix

around 3-years-old and my foster parents think there's lots of Border Collie in my "mix." I'm smart, fast and

strong for my 35 pound size. I need an agility part-ner or someone to throw a Frisbee for me to put my talent to use! I just had my annual vet check on May 16th, so I'm completely up to date with a clean bill of health and spayed. I'm great with people and most dogs but cats don't like my attempts to herd them!

want to train me or didn't want any vet bills? Sud-denly I was on my own.

My name is George and I was found in a neighbor-hood in Wallace where people put out some food, and there were

some dogs and kids to play with. But that arrangement wouldn't work for long. Pet Friends saw I was a

handsome, friendly Retriever/Lab mix, about 12 to 18-months-old and took me in. I've been to the vet and have been neutered. I was heartworm positive, so my treatment has started and my prognosis is good. I'm friendly, good with other dogs and do well on a leash.

We know what you’re

thinking: “How will I

ever choose among these

kittens? They’re all

simply ador-able!” Don’t

worry, we know what you can do. Come to

the shelter, pick us up, cuddle and kiss us, watch us play, and soon the one who melts your heart will help you decide! We are Fred, Tigger, Zenia and Indy (Fred is the only

boy) and we are 8-week-old babies who were found on the road. Our

mom had been killed by a car and a kind man heard us crying. We were just 4-weeks at the time and he got us help. Now we’re eating food on our own, hopping around, playing and bouncing, using the litterbox

and waiting for our new families to show up! Please call Pender

Humane Society at 910-259-7022 to set the date.

Sponsored in memory of Milo, the big black dog who stole our

hearts! Mommy and Daddy miss you every day!

Hi, my name is Disco! I

am a 5-year-old, pure-bred Great Dane and unfortu-

nately, I am losing my home this

month. My mommy has

to move overseas

and, due to my size, she

knows a plane ride so far would be too much for me to han-dle. I am a

good girl and have always been an inside doggie. I am healthy, spayed, up to date on vaccinations and I even

have my stomach tacked so I won’t get bloat. I am good with other dogs and could possibly do fine sharing a

house with a kitty. I love to go for walks and I walk sooo good on a leash. I am house-trained and such a cuddle

bug. You really couldn't ask for a better doggie. Please take a chance on me and call my mommy at

949-291-1541 or call Leanne at 910-538-0106 anytime. I hope to meet you soon! Love, Disco

◄SCRUFFY TERRIER ALERT! Hey there! My name is Hank (A009041). Everyone is so surprised that I’m still at the shelter since I look like a miniature Irish Wolfhound!

When you see me, you’ll say, “Awww!” But I’m not loved

just for my looks. No, I’m also loved for my friendly outlook on life, and my well-behaved nature. In my photo, I’m sit-ting politely for a treat. I get along great with other dogs

and would prefer a home with no small children (older ones

are fine.) I am heartworm positive, but that’s all the more reason to adopt me. You’ll be my hero!

◄I’m Linus (A012536) and I’m named after the Char-lie Brown character who carried a security blanket wherever he went. I don’t need a blanket to feel secure, though, I just need a loving family! My sister Lucy (A012537) is also looking for a home. We are both spayed/neutered, up to date on shots and litterbox-trained. We’re very friendly and would love to be adopted together!

NOW OPEN ON SUNDAYS! 1pm to 4pm

Please Adopt! WE’RE OVERCROWDED AND NEAR CAPACITY.

◄All I want is to be loved! My name is Gracie (A012283) and I’m a lovely, sweet girl with medium-length, gray fur. At just 5-months of age, I’ve got a long, happy life to live and I hope it’ll be with you. I was found as a stray and have been sitting at the shelter for a few weeks now. When will my new family be arriving? I’ve got lots of purrs and kit-ten kisses to give them.

►How can it be that a purry, cuddly and love-

able sweetheart like me has been waiting for a

home since April 16! My name is Persia

(A012015) and there’s no place I’d rather be

than in a human’s arms. I was found as a stray,

but I do hope I’ll be someone’s kitty very

soon! They tell me I’m around 1-year-old.

Won’t you get me be-fore I’m one day older?

◄I’m a sweet and friendly Lab mix girl and my name is Rose (A012305)! Everyone knows how wonderful Black Labs are, and I’m definitely no exception. I’d be such a wonderful family friend, the kind you take to the beach or lake or just for walks around the neighborhood. I like submissive dogs, but I’m not a fan of bossy ones. I’m great with all humans, big or small, and I’m just 1½-years-old. Please visit me!

►Looking for a very sweet and loveable girl who will make your life complete? Well, your days of searching are

over! I’m Diamond (A011456) and I’m

ready to settle down with you and make you

happy. I’m a 4-year-old Staffordshire Ter-

rier who is friendly with all people and I enjoy

being around kids. I appear to be house-trained, too. I lost my

family due to a divorce but I’m always ready to

give love another try!

FOSTER HOME

NEEDED!

My name is Baby Bear and I’m ap-proximately 1-year-old

and I weigh 27 to 30 pounds.

Southport Oak Island

Animal Res-cue (SOAR)

is looking for a foster home for me. I’m a

precious but extremely

scared Shepherd mix. Although I love and trust other ani-mals, I am petrified of people. It will take a special person to foster and work with me. I need someone with lots of patience and I need to be fostered with another dog or

dogs. SOAR will provide you with all the information that they have on me. They will also provide a consultation with their trainer. Please call SOAR at 910-457-6340 for more

information!

I am sponsored by SOAR in loving memory of all their wonderful, furry friends who made it safely to the

Rainbow Bridge.

◄I’m Caroline and I’m a very sweet puppy girl, just 7-months-old. I came to the shelter with my sister, Dakota. She’s pictured below me. Our owner wasn’t prepared to look after two puppies so we were taken to Animal Control. Luckily, Pen-der Humane Society saw us there and took us in. I’m a very friendly, delightful young girl and I’d be a welcome addition to any lucky family!

◄Hello, readers! My name is Tyler. I’m 1½-years-old and I love to be petted and played with. I will show my appreciation for your attention by serenading you with hours of purr-ing from my soothing motor. It’s music to a cat lover’s ears! I get along with other kitties and am vaccinated, neutered and litterbox-trained. Bring me home and allow me to brighten your life!

◄Small Dog Alert! Look how cute I am in

my doggie sweater. I’d be so adorable prancing around your house! My name is Stella and I’m a

sweet Chihuahua mix girl. I’m a little shy when

you first meet me, but give me a chance! I am friendly and loving and I enjoy playing with other small dogs. I also enjoy

walks on a leash and taking naps in the sun.

I’m already spayed, vac-cinated and on heart-

worm prevention. Would you come meet me today?

◄It’s funny that my name is Shadow when you consider that I love to spend my time sitting by a bright and sunny window, snoozing in the sunshine! I’m a very sweet and love-able little boy, just over 1-year-old, who loves being with peo-ple. I’m up to date on my shots, neu-tered and litterbox-trained. All I need is a spot of sunshine at your house and you!

►Can you handle all

this adorable-ness? My name is

Gabe. The beauty with

the ribbon on her head is

my stylish sis, Angel. We are playful and friendly 3-year-old

Yorkshire Terriers. Our original owner left us with a friend and never came back. Say what? We are both neutered/spayed, house-trained, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. We

can be adopted separately, but we’d love to stay together!

►It’s me, Dakota! Did you meet my sister, Caroline,

pictured just above me? We’re young

girls, just 7-months-old, and we’re

looking for loving families. I enjoy

playing with toys, eating treats and

having a good time with other doggies. I hope you’ll come

meet me or Caroline in person. We’re

sweet puppies and all we want is love.

PawPrints Magazine’s 12th Annual Cover Model Search

The Judges’ Decisions Are In: Honorable Mentions

Honorable Mention FACEBOOK FAVORITE

“Sonic” Submitted by: Lauren Mae Henry & Mackenzie Skrba

Sonic is a Lab Mix who rescued us at the Cat Adoption Team Petsmart adoption October 2012. Our life with Sonic couldn’t be better, from the moment we brought him home and he christened our white carpet he has been making us smile and laugh more than we ever thought we could. Every morning we are woken with wet Eskimo kisses, when returning home we are greeted with a wagging tail and every night we go to bed with a personal foot warmer. Each day we love him to our fullest capability, and each day he teaches us how to love him more. He enjoys the same things we do; he loves to go on walks, building sand forts on the beach, sledding, cuddling, eating snacks (he will do ANY-THING for a cookie), taking selfies, and wearing fun outfits. Sonic is full of personality and is never afraid to share his opin-

ion, but will never interrupt you talking. He has taught us how to love deeply, to be patient, to be kind, to be silly, to be faithful and to be thankful. Overall Sonic makes us laugh, and melts our hearts every day, and we couldn’t ask for any-thing more. So you may be wondering why he should be a PawPrints Magazine cover model? Well, Sonic can con-quer cuteness, master masculine, and surpass silliness all in one photo. He expresses all of his personality in his face, which makes him extremely photogenic. Sonic loves his bow ties, top hats, cable knit sweaters and such, so if you need a fashionista he is your dog. He has been expressing how much he wants to be famous in the puppy/kitty community for some time now, and we are hoping his puppy dreams can come true.

Honorable Mention FAVORITE COMEBACK KID

“Claire” Submitted by: Nancy Powers

My name is Nancy Powers. I have been working with the BCSAPS for 8-years now. I have seen many dogs and cats come through the doors of the shelter but when this puppy came in, my life as I knew it would change forever. Claire (we named her) was brought into BCSAPS in September of 2013 with severe wounds to her neck. The young man that brought her in to the shelter said he found her on the side of a dirt road. He thought she was dead but when he stopped she lifted her head up so he brought her to the shelter. Her neck was the size of a basketball filled with puss with severe bite wounds. I took her to the vet that afternoon and was told she would probably not survive 24 hours because of the severity of her wounds. Surgery was not an option due to the area of the neck where she had been attacked. The

options I was given were anti-biotics and time or euthanasia. I had to give her a chance. She was 4-months-old at the time and we had no idea what had attacked her so she was under quarantine for 10 days. I spent as much time with her as I could and, in the following days, fell in love with her strong will to live and her lov-ing happy-go-lucky disposition. My husband and I adopted her and she is now a bubbling 87 pound, 10-month-old, happy-go-lucky ball of fur. She never ceases to amaze us with her friendly demeanor towards every person or animal she meets. We would love to see her as the PawPrints Cover Model to show every one that there is hope for many injured and neglected shelter dogs.

Honorable Mention FAVORITE ATHLETE

“Henry” Submitted by: Daniel Aronson

Henry was found on a rainy cold night in Jonesboro, Arkansas. A thousand miles away, my girlfriend Jenn and I were on Face-book enjoying a lazy Tuesday night. We saw a post from a friend that said, “Please help! I found this pup dirty starving and wet.” That is when I first laid my eyes on what would become not only my new dog but my best friend. Every attempt was made by Jenn’s parents to find the owner but no one came forward. With already three dogs under one roof, Jenn’s parents could not keep Henry. I have never had a dog before in my life, but I was raised

with a great cat named Midnight. She was very much like a dog but did not require the extra attention a canine commands. Henry has changed my life for the better and has filled my life with laughter and joy. He de-serves the cover of PawPrints because he just wanted a warm safe home and a loving buddy. He has put on some weight and started to fill in so his ribs are no longer protruding. He is only 10-months-old, from what the vet says, but he has the wisdom of an old man. If Henry was on the cover, he would be the happiest dog in the world. He would love it more than bacon, cheese or bones.

Honorable Mention FAVORITE STUDENT TURNED TEACHER

“Axel” Submitted by: Mary Dickson

Axel was adopted from the German Shepherd Rescue in Up-state New York. He was found as a stray in Kentucky, and was brought up to NY. When I rescued him, he turned out to be a very difficult dog – suffering from numerous health problems (which are ongoing!) and aggression problems (which are fixed!), but through so much hard work on both our ends and so much learning on his part, we are always making progress. Axel changed his aggressive ways into giving kisses, and now it seems as if he cannot get enough! He loves all people and pets; big, little, old, young – it doesn’t matter. Axel keeps my life active and entertaining. He is always making me laugh with his goofy looks and stubborn ways. He is the perfect blend of watchful protective doggie and big lovable goofball. He knows the perfect thing to do when I am feeling sick, lonely or sad. He will come and cuddle up on the couch with me, look at me with concerned eyes, and give me 1,000 kisses! When I get home from anywhere

– work, errands or even just being outside for two minutes – he is the dog that jumps up and down with joy to see me. He makes me feel as though nothing else matters to him, and he always makes me so happy. A few years ago, I moved from NY to Wilmington and he is definitely a Southern dog! He fits in so well down here, he loves the trails at Poplar Grove and the beach. Axel should be on the cover of Paw-Prints Magazine because he is the epitome of a rescue dog. Although he had his quirks when he first came to me, he has taught me so much in return for rescuing him. He’s taught me that sometimes it’s in the imperfections that true love shines through. He is the dog that I turn to when I need a pick-me-up. I may have rescued him, but if it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t be able to have as much empathy as I do for the pets that still need their forever homes. I may have rescued him, but he rescued me as well.

Honorable Mention FAVORITE FREE SPIRIT

“Luna” Submitted by: Megan Dulaney

When I began searching for a dog, I did not realize the impact it would have on my life. The day I met Luna my whole life changed, but in a good way. They say a dog resembles its owner; well, in this case, that means stubborn, free spirit, loud, full of love and always willing to play, then yes that is absolutely true! At just 4-months, she was trying to play with the biggest dog at her foster home and could not be stopped. My application was granted from the 4 Paw LifeSaver Rescue and I got to bring home my best friend and fur baby. I promised her foster mom I’d give her a life she deserved and right away I began to do just that. She was immediately seen at the local vet and signed up for training classes. Luna also began going to babysitting jobs with me to ensure she was great with children and got to go to doggy daycare to get some energy out when I worked a lot. The day I took Luna home we were moving into a new house and no worries, she made it clear she is the boss. A month into our bond she got a stick lodged in her eye socket when she was playing in the yard, but after surgery she survived and can still see from both eyes! However, that has yet to stop her from going full

force all day, every day. Since I know dogs do not live as long as humans, I ensure Luna knows I love her and would do anything for her every day; especially after seeing how quick an accident can happen. Toys, treats, birthday cake and love – Luna is by far the most spoiled dog I know and I am happy I chose to adopt instead of shop! Also, a cat! After seeing how Luna acted around cats and how friendly and playful she was I decided to adopt a cat, Boone Daniel. I told everyone I was getting Luna a cat and they thought I was crazy, but she loves him. I believe Luna should be on the cover, one – she’s extremely cute! Secondly, she went from the woods to being the most spoiled dog ever. Truly I feel her adoption experience is what the PawPrints organization is all about; helping animals find their forever homes where they have a chance to be a part of a family and be loved.

Honorable Mention FAVORITE SENIOR & PUPPY MILL SURVIVOR

“Dr. Pepper” Submitted by: Nancy Hahn

Dr. Pepper was found walking the streets of Southport, totally blind. She was starving and down to 4 pounds. This precious, but very old, Chihuahua had been passed around to four other people who did not want the vet bills to take her in. She is a throw away puppy mill dog. Dr. Pepper had black teeth, fleas, parasites, milk gland tumors, hernias, ear infections and green infected sinuses. NOW, she is a happy, loving and affectionate dog who comforts people who have cancer. Still blind, but that does not hold her back. What a survivor, she never gave up even though she could not stand up when she was found.

Hi, I’m Prancer! I’m a beautiful, 1½-year-old Greyhound mix boy. I’m small, too, so I may be Whippet

mixed. I weigh around 40 pounds. I am extremely sweet, good with other dogs, but insecure. I need

to go to someone with another dog,

and preferably with Greyhound experi-ence. I would need to be hand-walked initially, even in a

fenced yard, until I am familiar and comfortable with the sur-roundings. A six-foot fence would be required. I tend to

want to dart and run when afraid, but I am incredibly loving and very smart. I’m also vaccinated, neutered and on heart-worm prevention. If you’d like to meet me (and I hope you do!), please call Sunburst Foundation at 910-622-0011 or

I am sponsored by Mr. Peanut and Ginger Snap. Thank you!

Hound boy named Gus. I was found on Ocean Isle as a stray and was so skinny. Those days are over! I’m in great health and everyone adores me due to my

friendly, loving nature. I rarely even bark! I love

to play and am estimated to be around 3-years-old. I don’t jump up on people and I’m good with other

dogs. You’ll find I’m quite handsome, too, so come on over and meet me!

◄They got it right when they named me Baby! That’s what I am - a big baby! I am such a sweet girl! I love to play and be petted and I do really well walking on a har-ness. I can even sit! And there's nothing I like more than playing with squeaky toys. I am about 6-years-old but still love to run like a puppy. (I just wear out easier and faster!!!) I would love for June to be the month you adopt me!

►My name is Cori! I came to SOAR from

Adopt-An-ANGEL, and my new friends are so

can have a long, happy life with no

problems. I do need to live in a home as the only cat or with

another cat who has tested positive for the

FeLV virus. Please give me a chance!

►My name is Elsa! I was left behind when my family

moved away. Luckily, a nice

neighbor found me but could not keep

me because she already had a full

on shots. I am a sweet, loving girl

with beautiful mark-ings! And the cool-est whiskers - they

Shelter News & Events

Mary Puppins’ Pet Food Program Mary Puppins' Pet Pan-try is a free service that gives donated pet food to individuals and families during periods of financial hardship. They are based in Jacksonville, NC but will service Pender and New Hanover counties. They offer temporary pet food assistance and want people to know help is available. Sur-rendering your pet to a shelter doesn't have to be an option. To qualify for assistance, those seeking pet food must fill out an application for approval prior to receiving their first monthly distribution. Applications may be filled out online or in person. Approval is based on household in-come. Proof of pet ownership is required and can be vali-dated with a current Rabies certificate or veterinarian re-ceipt. Pets must be spayed or neutered or applicants must be willing to do so within 60 days. (Spay/neuter vouchers can be provided when available.) For more information, visit www.puppinspantry.org or search for “Mary Puppins’ Pet Pantry” on Facebook.

OPERATION TOPCAT FUREVER FRIENDS ANIMAL RESCUE

MEOW! My name is Princess and I need a home! I was

adopted in 2013 after recover-ing from a broken pelvis and

now I am without a family once again through no fault of my

own. I am a healthy, 2-year-old girl who is current on vaccina-

tions, spayed and micro-chipped. I love everyone and

adapt well to new environ-ments. My hobbies are playing,

eating, sleeping, loving and playing some more. If you would like to adopt me, please call 910-383-2100 or email [email protected]. You can also visit us online

ONSLOW COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICES

My name is Ranger (A075300) and I’m here at the shelter pining away for a for-

ever home that will see me for the treasure that I am. I’m a ‘loving and fun to be around’ Bernese Mountain Dog mix. I’m a “gentle giant” and I’m

obedient, which is needed for us larger breeds. Why, just look at my credentials if you

will: I’m neutered, loving, mellowed (due to being 5-years of age), house-trained, and vaccinated. My antics will make

you double over in laughter and you don’t even need a T.V. when I’m around, as I’ll keep you giggling. I’ll be keeping

my eyes open, eagerly waiting for you to come and adopt a big, loveable dog to make your family unit complete. The

shelter is located at 244 Georgetown Road in Jacksonville. To adopt me, please call 910-455-0182.

4 PAW LIFESAVER RESCUE

I'm Finnigan and my old hu-mans left me in a parking lot. I

don't know what happened, maybe they forgot me. I tried to

chase their car as long as I could but they didn't stop. Luck-ily, a nice lady saw me chasing

the car and stopped to help. Now I have a foster dad. He's pretty cool and he takes me to the dog park so I can play with

the other dogs. He also lets me cuddle with him on the couch! I am just under 50 pounds and

about 1-year-old. I’m house-trained, crate-trained, leash-trained, neutered and vaccinated. To adopt me, email [email protected] or call 252-531-0744.

My name is Meelu and I wandered up to a nice lady's yard and hung around. She was unable to keep me so she contacted Topcat for

help. I am a brown Tabby who is 1½-years-old, spayed and up to date with vaccinations. I am a

sweetie pie who purrs when petted. I don’t mind other cats but might

hiss at first just to let them know I’m around. The lady who found me

had a dog and I didn't react to him but I don't know how I would feel living with one. I deserve a safe, loving, inside home with lots of love. To find out more about me, please send an

email to [email protected] or call 910-200-0612.

PENDER ENDANGERED ANIMAL RESCUE

Hello, my name is Da'Kid! I am an English Bulldog

mix. Just look at me - I am a big, loving boy. I was wandering down River

Road and was scooped up. Now I am safe; however, I am looking for that fur-ever home. I am full of licks and I love people. It took me a while to trust folks but I do warm up to them. I do play with other dogs and am a

little stubborn. But that is who I am. I am also neutered and up to date on all my shots. I would love to spend the

rest of the year with a family...please? Contact me at PEAR: [email protected] or 910-675-0867.

ONSLOW PARTNERS FOR ANIMAL WELFARE

My name is Tyler. I am a very gentle, 11 pound Chihuahua mix

boy who is 1-year-old. I was found as a stray in the middle of a

stormy evening and was very frightened and hungry. I had the imprint of a collar that had been

removed and had not been chipped. Attempts to find my

home have not been successful so I am ready for my furever

home. I am crate and house-trained and heartworm negative. I

have been vaccinated and neutered. I am good with dogs and cats and I love to be around people. I have done well when approached by children and they pet me gently - I

loved it! I prefer a well-enclosed yard so I can run without getting lost. Visit www.oc-paw.com for an application or

contact OCPAW at [email protected] or 484-883-3552.

PET FRIENDS OF DUPLIN COUNTY

My foster mom wants to keep me and put her cat up for

adoption! No, just kidding! But what I'm not kidding about is

that I'm ready for a permanent home! Who wouldn't want a gorgeous 2-year-old, petite,

dilute Calico like me, even if I don't have a tail? My name is Callie and I'm FIV and Feline Leukemia negative, spayed and up to date on vet care.

Some of my teeth were pulled last year as part of my treat-

ment for Stomatitis, so I won't go home with you unless you agree to feed me soft food! But if you do, you'll find you

have a sweet new feline best friend who is ready for lots of lap time. Call 910-285-2850 to meet me.

COASTAL ANIMAL RESCUE EFFORT (CARE)

A SHELTER FRIEND

My name is Cooper and I’ve been enrolled in training class where I am a star pupil! I was horribly

abused and my former owner did jail time on account of it. I have put

that all behind me. Today, I am extremely intelligent and affection-

ate. That’s putting it mildly – I crave human contact! I am happy and healthy. I love to run and play and see and smell every new thing around me that was denied me in

my past. I have been neutered and vaccinated. Please call Emily at

910-862-1806 to learn more about me! Maybe we could meet when I am in Wilmington for training! Visit us at

www.AShelterFriend.org or search for us on Facebook.

ALL 4 CATS

Hi, I'm Henry! I am an easy-going guy with a

gentle soul. I have such a warm demeanor and not a bad bone in my body. All I really need is a lap and a little attention. I

love giving kitty hugs and kisses to my foster family. I am fixed and vaccinated and I get along with cats and dogs. I am looking

forward to meeting you so please call 919-710-3872

to set up a time to visit with me or check facebook.com/all4catsrescue for the

scheduled adoption events.

PAWSITIVE PARTNERS PRISON PROGRAM

My name is Rambler. I am awesome, friendly and smart - a fabulous dog! I was trained for 8-weeks in the Pawsi-tive Partners Prison

Program (inmates train-ing dogs) and I was a star student. Along

with having learned all my commands, I have a

great personality and love to have fun playing with people and dogs my size or larger. I am neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm pre-vention. What I need now is someone who will give me a

loving, devoted, forever home so that I will ramble no more. Call 910-297-1338 or email [email protected]. Visit

our webpage at www.montyshome.org or our Facebook page - facebook.com/montyshome.

Hi, my name is Julie! I am a very good girl, I mind well and I do

not require a lot. Give me a crate with a big bed in it and I will be happy. I do love to run around for a bit, though, so a fenced yard would be awe-

some. I have no problems at all with other dogs, cats or kids. I also walk

very well on a leash. I may be a little older at 9-years, but I am past the shoe-chewing and jumping-on-you stage. Will you please take a chance on a quiet, sweet girl like me? Please call my rescue at 910-538-0106 anytime.

I’m a new patient with C.A.R.E. and my name is

Nemo! I was badly injured when I came to C.A.R.E. I am currently under treat-ment and they tell me I’m the sweetest baby ever!! I still want to have my head rubbed despite the obvious

injures to my face. C.A.R.E. is now accepting

donations for my treatment. Visit carewilmington.org and click on the paypal

button to donate. Like us on Facebook to get continued updates on my recovery and to see when I will be avail-

able for adoption. For more info, call 910-256-2624.

It’s me, Brad Pitt!

No, not the movie star from

Holly-wood. I’m the better-

looking one from the Wil-mington

area! I’m a 3-year-

old Pit Bull Ter-rier mix who has

been taking obedience classes. I’m super-smart and will do well with a family who is familiar with the bully breed. I would be happiest in a home with a docile female dog. A quiet, stable home environment would also be great! I am

simply a sweet, sweet boy and will make a wonderful companion for the right family. For adoption info, email

Sunburst Foundation at [email protected] or call 910-622-0011.

I am sponsored in loving memory of Hank Harrington.

am friendly

and really laid-back. I seem to do well with cats, dogs and kids,

too. I love to rub against you and give you head butts - THE ultimate sign of kitty cat affection. If you would like to know more info about me or would like to inquire about the adoption process, call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557.

ECHO DOGS - White German Shepherd Rescue COASTAL CAROLINA BOSTON TERRIER RESCUE

I’m Bryce and I’m actually a pretty shy guy. I love my people and making them

happy but I’m not comfort-able around dogs who

want to play rough. I’m a homebody who loves to

play fetch, run in the yard, snuggle with my people or snooze in my crate with my

blanket and toys. For more information or to con-

tact my Coastal Carolina Boston Terrier Rescue

foster family, please email [email protected] or call 252-633-0987. Visit us online at

My name is Ahri and I’m a Belgian Malinois with a multi-colored coat and black mask.

I’m a happy-go-lucky, energetic puppy who is 15 to 18-months-

old and 55 pounds. I love to play with other dogs my own size, but can be too much for

smaller dogs. I do chase kitties, but if they stop and stare at me, I will ignore them. I love people

of all sizes and ages. My foster mom describes me as lov-ing, playful, food-motivated, and smart. I already know sit, down and come and I’m eager to learn more. I’m hoping for a new fur-ever family who is active, loves exercise and spends lots of time at home with me. To learn more about

me, call 910-200-4782 or visit www.echodogs.org.

CAROLINA BASSET HOUND RESCUE

Howdy all! My name is Stella and I’m a 9 to 10-year-old lady who is looking for a place to rest my head and

GREAT DANE RESCUE ALLIANCE

My name is ChaCha and I lived chained outside beside my brother. A nice Animal Control Officer told my family that they needed to pro-

vide shelter for us. The Animal Con-trol Officer kept checking on us and noticed that we were losing weight. We were both taken from the family

and to the vet hospital where we were put on IVs and medicine be-cause of lack of food. I came in

weighing 47 pounds, full of parasites, and heartworm posi-tive. I went to my new foster home with lots of foster broth-

ers and sisters and I now weigh 77 pounds. I'm a petite Dane and very high energy but very loving and sweet.

Once my heartworm treatment is finished, I will be waiting for my forever home. To adopt me, send an email to

[email protected] or call 704-559-4121.

CAROLINA POODLE RESCUE

My name is Star and I am a tiny, 8-year-old, 7 pound girl. After I was rescued from a hoarding situation, these

wonderful folks brought me up to date on all my vac-

cines, had me spayed and my teeth cleaned. I feel mar-velous and I love everyone I meet! My house-training is

improving and I love to go for walks and car rides. Both my foster mom and the vet say I am doing great and would really benefit from having a forever home. Do you have room in your heart and home for me? If so, please go to

our website at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and apply or give us a call at 864-489-3559.

when I do I am very friendly and I love to give kisses. I am a true treasure. To adopt me, visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. If you need an application mailed or faxed to you, please call
