PawPrints Magazine's CAT Cover Model Winners

“What greater gift than the

love of a cat?” ~Charles Dickens

It is such an honor for Pippin and Poppin to serve as the ambassadors

for pet adoption. My son and his

wife have recently adopted

their first cat because they

have seen how much love my babies have brought into my life. When I leave home for any reason, the best part is returning home. The minute the door to my home is cracked open, I see two little noses and then the heads that belong to my cats, Pippin and Poppin. They are always right there to greet me.

Do they wait by the door while I’m gone or does the sound of the key in the door signal them that I’m home again? They surround my feet and tell me

how glad they are to see me. There are few happier moments in my life.

I’m an empty-nest Mom. My only son has long since grown up and moved away and on with his life, so Pippin and Poppin don’t know they are cats. They

think they are babies. I want to thank PawPrints Magazine and Dick Parrott for his beautiful photographs. This has been a wonderful

experience for all three of us! Sincerely, Nancy Cox

My name is Brando and I am a 2-year-old German

Shepherd mix and I am look-

ing for my forever home.

I sat at the Pender

County Animal Control until

the nicest lady rescued me and a few of my friends. Thank you

Chris K! We were all

placed in fos-ter homes and here I am. I get along well with other dogs and have tons of energy. My foster family has 2 dogs for me to play with and a large fenced yard that I love to run in. I am house-trained and leash-trained. I’m neutered and up to date on all shots and heartworm prevention. I also know a few commands such as sit, down, and ken-nel. I enjoy meeting new people, new dogs, and going

for car rides. I am so sweet and want nothing more in life than to be loved by you. I’m worth your time. Please call

Amanda at 910-200-4189 if you’d like to meet me.

I am sponsored by the Danielson family in honor of their beloved Bella.

Hello, my name is

Caruso! I’m a declawed,

part-Siamese

refugee from South Caro-lina, brought to my foster home in Oak Island in late July, 2010.

My birth date is approxi-mately July

7, 2010. My foster family put me with Lucciano, a Shallotte refugee born about July 14, 2010. (You can meet him on page 33.) We two kittens immediately bonded and would sing out loudly, and often in harmony, when hungry. Thus

the names (Enrico) Caruso and Lucciano (Pavarotti). I, with my gorgeous coat-of-many-colors, was quickly adopted.

Unfortunately, the adopting family already had a small child and then a new baby, all of which caused an unsettled

situation for both me and family. They brought me back this spring. Because I’m a sweet-natured and loving creature, I immediately settled back into my early foster home and am ready to try adoption again. I am neutered, vaccinated and very healthy! If you’d like to meet me, please call my SOAR

foster mom at 910-278-4437.

I am sponsored by Blue Heaven in Key West. Thank you!

How about a wink and a kiss? My name is

Mini Moo because my markings look like a

milk cow, although I’m much prettier. I am a 2½-year-old spayed

female with lots of love and energy. I would

prefer to live inside be-cause I have very short hair and get cold easily. I am house-trained and

like my crate, I know several commands (sit, down and come) plus

I’m great on a leash. I love to play ball and enjoy long walks. My only fault is that I don’t always like other dogs or cats. That’s how I lost my first home, I didn’t play well

with the other dogs. My foster home has lots of other dogs, too - so I don’t have the freedom I need and de-

serve. I am looking for an active home where I can be the only pet. Please call Amy at 910-253-0501 for more infor-

mation or to set up a time to meet me.

I am sponsored by Francesca Slaughter in loving memory of Casper and Lucy.

GUARANTEED FREE KISSES!!!

I am Sweet Pea and we will have loads of fun to-gether, especially if you like to play ball half as

much as I do! I am a Brin-dle Cattle Dog mix who will

bring instant joy to your home because I do

EVERYTHING with a huge smile on my face! I am

under a year old, already spayed and up to date on my vaccinations. Plus, I am heartworm negative

and on preventative. There are many reasons for you to call Denise with A Shelter Friend at 910-

862-1728 to learn how we can meet. I will be the best thing that has ever happened to you! You can also visit us at www.AShelterFriend.org and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ashelterfriend.

My name is LoverBoy, and it’s easy to see why! Just look at how happily I’m sitting in this person’s

arms. I adore hu-mans and will al-

ways be thrilled to cuddle up with you. For some reason I’ve been over-

looked, and have had to watch many

other cats find homes. My friends

at Cat Adoption Team just can’t understand why I’ve been waiting

so long. I’m a 2-year-old grey and white boy who is al-ready neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. I love to be brushed and am great with kids. I also play very well with other cats. I have a gentle and loving personality and would be a great companion for anyone. If you’ve been searching for the perfect family friend, please call Cat Adoption Team at 910-792-9014 and leave a mes-

sage. We’re also at Petsmart seven days a week!

I am sponsored by NCBeachBargains.com in honor of all the Wonderful Folks who have opened their hearts and homes to rescue a homeless animal.

My name is Bingo and I'm looking

for a furever home. I get along with other dogs,

love kids and am very

friendly at about 45

pounds. I'm neutered, up

to date on shots,

wormed, heartworm free and on heartworm prevention. I just went

into the "New Leash On Life" training program at the prison for 8-weeks. The first Friday of June I will be graduating and then can go home with my new parents. I can be seen and adopted but can't go into my new home until

after I graduate. I will have a big graduation party and my new family and their friends can attend but also the news

media will be there. I will also be getting a big bag of food, microchip and 6-months of heartworm prevention to take home. Anyway, please contact Pat with the Columbus Humane Society at 910-640-1505 and she will make

arrangements for you to come out and meet me.

In loving memory of Jordi, Frank and Mindy. We love you, miss you, and will never forget you.

From Jo-Ann and Ken Beals, Jane Ann and Malette.

Hi, my name is Dixie and I was res-cued just before my

time was up. I'm a black and white

Bulldog mix who is be-

tween 1 to 2-years of age. I'm a sweet

girl but a little shy until I know you.

I'm up to date on my vaccinations and I have been spayed. I get along with the

other dogs at my foster home and I would really love to have a family and home of my own. Maybe that could be

YOU? Please call Pet Friends of Duplin County at 910-271-3101 to find out how to meet me or to inquire

about the adoption process. I'll be waiting for you.

Sponsored by Pet Friends of Duplin County. Dedicated to all the animals who don't get saved in time.

Look at me! I’m an expert at sitting on

command and waiting for a treat. My name is Zoe and I’m a 6 to

7-year-old female Beagle who

weighs in at a mere 25 to 30 pounds. I was once a beloved

family member, but my owner could no

longer keep me after going through financial struggles. The good news is that I’m a perfect family companion! I am house-trained,

leash-trained, and love to be cuddled and kissed. I have a good-natured personality, am friendly to children and I

really enjoy going for walks. I am so happy to receive at-tention from my humans and I love to be petted. I’m also spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. I’m the best friend you’ve been searching for! Please call Paw’s Place at 910-845-7297 to find out how you can adopt me.

I am sponsored by Hank and Grace Harrington.

Thank you!

►My name is Vince and I am a DOLL! I am little, too. I weigh

no more than 30 pounds, if that, and I’m only knee high! Can you

believe I sat at Brunswick County Animal Services since February and no one adopted me? It is unbelievable. I am only about a year old and too

young to have known homeless-ness for this long. I am a Yellow Labrador Retriever mix, probably mixed with honey since I am so

sweet and easygoing. I walk well on a leash and seem to do well with other dogs and kids. Please call and arrange to

meet me so I can hurry up and get a home....

◄My name is Brownie and I am a very sweet

boy. I am eager to please, overly friendly

and can be energetic at times. I am very pretty with my brown under-

coat. I do well with some dogs and may be a little too energetic for others,

so it's best for me to meet your dog to see if

we get along or not. I am neutered, vaccinated and tested positive for heart-worms. I will be under-

going treatment and there will be no additional costs to my adopter for the treat-ment - unless you want to donate to help me. Adopt-An-ANGEL is accepting donations on my behalf at P.O. Box 15095, Wilmington, NC 28408. I am homeless after run-

ning out of time at the local animal shelter.

◄My name is Joy and I am extremely loving and well trained. I sit on command, shake with both hands and catch treats in my mouth. I am attentive and eager to please. I am about 3-years-old and must have had a home where some-one trained me. I do best in a home without dogs or cats, but I love people. I am so affec-tionate. I am loyal and little, too. I weigh less than 30 pounds. Please adopt me!!

►My name is Shelby and I am a magnificent looking Hound. I was the one and

only puppy my mother had at Animal Control.

Adopt-An-ANGEL rescued us and I was quickly

adopted. At 9-months of age, I was returned be-

cause my daddy got a job far, far away and had to

move. I couldn't go. I am better with older kids be-cause I can easily knock down a youngster. I do well with most other dogs, but would need to meet yours to be com-

pletely sure. I am spayed, up to date with my shots and heartworm negative. They seem to characterize us Hounds

as either crazy or lazy. I seem to be of the lazy caliber of Hounds. I am a big girl around 60 pounds.

◄My name is Princess and I am a very sweet girl. I

am a meek little black and white 35 to 40 pound dog who is eager to please. If I do

something wrong and you correct me, I am horrified that I did something to

upset you. I am good with other animals. I am so excited to see you that I whimper at first sight of you and I start march-ing in my spot. I make lots of funny sounds, but I’m also a quiet girl who would do best in a quiet home probably with older kids. I am house-trained already and a super sweet,

easy dog to take care of and fall in love with. I am very con-nected to you in just a few days and will stay right by your

side. I am also undergoing heartworm treatment, but there will be no additional cost to my adopter unless they would

like to donate to my cause. Please mail checks to Adopt-An-ANGEL, P.O. Box 15095, Wilmington, NC 28408 if you would like to contribute to my cause.

►My name is Freeway and yup, you got it - someone

picked me up running alongside the freeway. I am

a very good boy who gets along with everyone I meet,

every animal and every-thing. I am a very pretty

boy with chocolate almond colored fur mixed with black and white - and the choco-late makes me extra sweet. I am a happy, easy going

fella who is blossoming in my foster home. No more hitch-hiking for me! I just like to lounge around at your

feet. I am neutered, and heartworm free.

LOST DOG "Mango" - Male White Poodle

.

Disappeared from Long Creek area (across street from Long Creek School) in Pender County

Mango is greatly loved and desperately missed!

He is the only family left to an 80-year-old Wilmington woman. He was under the temporary care of a friend when he disappeared on December 22, 2010. Mango is a miniature white poodle, about 7 pounds. He is a house dog and a lap dog. He loves his home

and his human momma and is shy around strangers. Please help reunite him with his mother! She is deeply grieving his loss.

A reward will be paid and no questions asked for his safe return. Please indicate a time and place to pick him up.

If you have any info about 'Mango', please call 910-791-4239.

I’m a stunning young lady named Zumba!

My name fits me so well because I love to play

and I play hard. I came from Pender County

Animal Control which is still FULL. I am little at only around 30 to 35 pounds and would do well in a small home

with no fenced in yard. I love to just sit beside you for some loving (or

in your lap if you let me). I have the cutest little ears that naturally fold backwards, and a

nub tail! I love to make you happy and I’m very smart. I already know my name,

come, sit, and no. I’m currently working on stay and paw. I love to lay around with you but also love to go outside and

play with other dogs. I get along great with everyone I meet. Don't know about cats yet...but dogs and kids are ok! My favorite activities include chasing bumble bees,

working on training, sleeping on my back, and eating! I’m only around a year old and will flourish in any home. I am

good on the leash (harness) and on car rides. If you would like to know more about me or to inquire about adoption,

call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557.

I am sponsored by the Miss Avis Davis Fund, thanks!

Hello, I’m Ralphie! A while back, my former

family put me and my sib-

lings in a shelter where we were all about to be euthanized. Fortunately, Schnauzer Rescue of

the Carolinas came in and saw that we would make some lucky families complete! I’m a 5-month-old, 15 pound, purebred mix of

mini-Schnauzer and Cairn Terrier. I lived with other dogs, cats and children in my old home and got along beauti-fully with all. I’m a bit shy but will approach you on my

own. I love the rubs that you give me and will return them with puppy kisses! I’m doing great in my foster home and my personality is shining through. I will make a fantastic family companion to any loving family! If you are inter-

ested in me and would like to find out more, visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. There you can

fill out an application online and view other adoptable rescues. If you need an application mailed or faxed, call

910-264-8300.

◄There’s a funny reason I have the name Stucco (A039358). Do you see how my tiny pink tongue is showing? Well, since it’s quite often ‘stuck’ out, my name became Stucco! I really am an adorable kitty who loves being held and rubbed. I’ll lay in your arms like a baby and tell you how content I am by my purrs. I’m a 2-year-old boy who would make someone very happy. Adopt me!

Our adoption fee includes spay/neuter surgery, a Rabies

vaccination and a heartworm test for dogs or FIV/FeLV test for cats.

◄This happy face says it all! My name is Bo (A038634) and I’m a typical Yellow Lab,

which means that I’m a perfect choice as a new

family member! Friendliness is part of

my nature and so is my love of people and being

around them. In my photo, I am sitting on

command for a treat. I also made everyone

smile by catching them in my mouth when they

were tossed! It’s a shame a talented fellow

like me has no place to demonstrate my skills. Hey, how about your house? At 3-years-old, I’m ready for lots of fun!

◄I’m a Dachshund mix boy who is low to the ground with my short legs and long body, but my capacity for loving is huge! My name is Jack (A039665) and I’m quite adorable with one eye that’s blue and one that’s brown. Here I am sitting for a treat (I’m really good at paying attention to you) and I just dearly love to be rubbed. I’m a darling, just 5-months-old. Come meet me!

◄Hello! My name is Alice (A039316) and I’m kinda like the girl from Alice in Wonder-land. You see, I suddenly found myself in a strange land - the animal shelter - when I was scooped up as a stray. I’m so friendly and loving that I must have belonged to somebody! And just look how beautiful I am with my silky medium-length fur. At just 1½-years-old, I’m ready to leave this land and go home. Take me, you’ll love me!

►I’m a sweet, sweet boy named Bailey (A038454) and I’ll make a very loyal, loving companion. Just like in my photo, I would love to sit at your feet by your chair and feel the comfortable weight of your hand on my head

from time to time. For a dog in a shelter, that

would be heaven! I’m a 1-year-old Lab/Hound mix who is extremely friendly.

My tail wags a mile a minute when I meet

people, especially if they have treats! I also enjoyed playing with a rope toy while my

photo was being taken. Come visit and take me in the playroom so we can become acquainted. You’ll love me!

Spot ►Talk about gorgeous!

My name is Luther (A039190) and I’m a

handsome Tabby boy whose good looks make

people stop and stare. I’m already neutered and I’ve

always lived inside with my family. Sadly, a new

husband came along who was allergic to cats. At 6-years-old, I never thought this would happen. I am

mellow, extremely loving, and I just want to be back in a home. Come get me!

Hello, my name is

I’m a very loving

Stafford-shire who is in great

health. You might remember from my last appearance that I had severe damage to my front paw after an attack,

but the vet has repaired it and I am doing great! I will have a limp, however. I really do love kisses and hugs and

walks, and if you met me you'd see how loving I am. I’m hoping I’ll soon find a wonderful home and family. If you’re interested in me, contact the Pender Endangered Animal Rescue at [email protected] or 910-675-0867.

I am sponsored by Foose and Captain Spriggs of

April Fool’s wasn’t a day of fun and games for me - that’s the day I arrived at Animal Control. Still, I haven’t given up hope of finding a family. Can’t

you tell by this big, friendly grin on my face?

Hi there, my name is Petey (CM3598). I’m a

2-year-old American Bulldog mix who is sim-ply wonderful. I had a

really fun time when my photo was taken - they threw me treats and I

caught them in my mouth. Yum! I never

meet a stranger and am so very friendly. I can sit on com-mand and would love to demonstrate that for you if you

come on out to the shelter. For driving directions, or for the answers to any other questions, call Pender County Animal Control at 910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-279-3196.

You’ll be impressed by my treat-catching, I promise!

CAT: Cat Adoption Team

◄I’m a big, lazy, loveable boy named Rooster. If you love

orange Tabbies, you’ll be thrilled with me! I’m about 4-years-old and was found at a shelter

where I was running out of time. You see, my

owner had turned me in for chasing his chickens. I thought it was common knowledge that cats find

feathered creatures delectable, so I didn’t

understand the fuss. I’m sweet and gentle, so I’ll be very happy to cuddle

up with you. I’m friendly to children and other cats, and am also neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Adopt me!

◄Hi, my name is Lucky Lori. I was attacked by dogs and I ran under a

trailer to hide. After I found a hiding place, I

ended up getting my leg caught in a wire which broke my leg. The lady

who found me turned me over to

Cat Adoption Team, and they took me to a great vet. Sadly, my leg was so badly wounded that it had to be removed. Could you

make a donation to help cover my medical bill? Please send it to CAT, 616 Chestnut St., Wilmington, NC 28401. Thanks!

►Hey there, my name is Mandy! I’m a playful,

friendly, gentle girl. I love to interact with people and to be kissed and rubbed. I’m already

spayed, up to date on shots and excellent in the

litterbox. I’d be a great friend to those tiny hu-

mans called children and I also play well with other cats. I also can be quite

entertaining - just give me a few cat toys, like jingly balls or soft feathers and watch me have a great

time! At 10-months-old, I have so much love to give!

◄When will it be my turn to go home? My name is

Moonbeam and I’m a 16-month-old girl who

was rescued as a stray with my mom, Galaxy, and brother, Sunbeam.

My family has found loving homes, but I’ve

been in a foster home for over a year now! I’m a

gentle, sweet and loving girl who wants nothing more than to be loved

and given attention. I’m already spayed,

vaccinated and litterbox-trained and I get along great with children, cats, and dogs.

◄I’m a declawed beauty who goes by the name of Lara. Would you adopt me?My owner was sent to the hospital and I was left alone to fend for myself all winter. It’s not good for a cat with no claws to be outside, so my new home should be one where I stay indoors only. I would be very happy as the solo cat and am already spayed, up to date on shots and trained in the litterbox.

►We are Nemo and

Marnie, two orange Tabby brothers. And we’re great!! We both love

to play, we purr like crazy when rubbed or held,

and we like other cats. We do not have a mean bone in either of our bodies and are very gentle. We are just 10-months-old, already neutered, vaccinated and

litterbox-trained. We would love to go to a home together if possible. You’ll find that we can give you double the love!

won't be able to come back home.

So you see, I'm just sad and upset but I

know there has to be another wonderful, loving inside home

for me out there somewhere, right? I don't have much time to look though, and

that also makes me a little scared. My name is Smokey and it’s nice to meet

you. I am a beautiful, male Russian Blue mix who is neu-tered and up to date on all my indoor kitty vaccines. I am still young at 2-years-old and I am still VERY playful. I do love a good teaser toy and catnip...my goodness, I love that stuff! I can sometimes be a tad bit shy at first, but once I feel safe, secure and loved, I know I could make you very, very happy. To learn more about me, please call Jack at 910-686-4253 or Alane at 910-616-4525.

I’m a beautiful Vizsla mix named Temperance and I have everything it takes to make you very happy. I

was once a stray at Pender County Animal Control, but

I’m now in a great foster home where I play with

other dogs. I also have fun hanging out with the

neighbor’s kids, as well as my foster parent’s grand-

kids. I’m a friendly and so-cial girl, not skittish or

mouthy, and I just love to be petted or brushed. Attention from humans is always very

welcome! I’m already spayed and vaccinated, but

I’m currently undergoing heartworm treatment. I will be available for adoption

around the 1st of June, but you are extremely welcome to come meet me and fill out an application for my adoption. Please call my Pender County Animal Control foster mom

at 910-285-6212 and let’s get to know one another!

I am sponsored by Kathy Lanio. Thank you!

Cat Tails

►I am actually much cuter than the flowers I am

named after, Buttercup. I was adopted last spring

when flowers were in bloom. Then my owner moved away and didn’t

want me. Who could give up their cat? I just don’t

understand. Well, now it’s springtime again and I am hoping for another adop-tion. I am a little timid at

first and therefore I don’t do well at Petsmart, which makes it hard for me to find a home. But I promise I am a great cat in a home setting. Please just give me a try, you

won’t be disappointed.

►As a retired member of the famed Cirque du Soleil,

you can only image how acrobatic I must be. One of my most popular moves

is to jump up onto your shoulder and go for a ride! In fact it is named after me, “the Gilad move”. Sometimes it startles people when they are casually walking through the building, and I come run-ning down the hall and launch myself onto their shoulder! Imagine the fun we can have with your friends. So if you want a “crowd” pleaser or just someone who will keep you laughing, come see me and let me demonstrate my move!

◄With a name like Hercules I should be big and bold. Well, really I am

quiet and very nerv-ous at first. My

friend, Whitey, and I were put up for

adoption together. Whitey was my pro-

tector and got adopted, so now I

am really lost. You can see I am a

beautiful, Siamese mix with gorgeous blue eyes, and only 9-months-old. So if you would just give me enough time to get adjusted to your

home, I will settle in and become your best friend.

◄I know, they tell us all the time about teenage pregnancy. Well, I didn’t listen either. So here I am

at 7-months-old, the mother of five! Luckily, they have all found homes and now as a young ado-

lescent, I want one, too. No more babies for me, I had sur-gery for that! I am one of the

sweetest black cats you’ll find. I just want to be loved since I spent the first half of my life

loving others. They call me Lil Mamma because I was too little and young for babies. Feel free to change it to some-

thing more exotic when you take me home.

◄How could a 7-year-old kitty end up in a shelter?

Sometimes you just have to look at humanity and won-

der why? Why would someone give me up when

I had given so much of myself to them? It’s a

tough question I unfortu-nately have a lot of time to ponder. Having spent so much time in a house as the only cat, it would be

best if I were by myself or with just one other. I hate

going to Petsmart and being on parade because I feel I have suffered enough indignity already. Please restore my faith in the human race and give me a chance. I am

the “big beautiful orange Tabby” they call Gunner.

◄Just like Howard Stern, I am a wild and crazy guy! And like Mr. Stern, I like to play rough at times, so be prepared. I am a 3-year-old, black and white male. All the stress of being a celebrity has given me a sensi-tive stomach, so I need special food, but no prescription food. I am co-sponsored, which means someone is willing to pay half my adoption fee if someone special wants to take me home.

◄White cats are supposed to be the first to get adopted. At least that’s what I was told, which ap-

parently is not true, because I am almost 2-years-old and still look-ing for a home. As you can see, it looks like I am wearing the cut-est gray cap, but really it’s just a patch of gray hair. Not old lady

gray hair, just a “touch of gray” as the commercials says. If you want to know more about me come and ask for “Poppy”

or the only white one with a “touch of gray”.

Hi there! My name is Hawkeye! I’m a Black Lab mix approximately a year and a half old. I was res-

cued by my friends at Monty’s Home and enrolled

in a 9-week obedience course through the Pawsitive

Partners Prison Program. My trainer is teaching me all kinds of neat stuff. We go for long trips called walks

and I learn how to walk easy. We play tug which is soooo much fun...And oh! These

yellow fuzzy round things are so much fun to chase and

bring back. I am kind of lik-ing this obedience thing and I am working really hard at it. I am all boy and I love to run and exercise, but I am very loveable and I love to be handled. So, if you are looking for a super pup who is crate-trained and up to date on all his shots, I’m your boy. I would love to be able to show you how much I’ve learned. All you have to do is have

your people call my people and we can meet over a bag of treats! To find out more or apply for me or one of the other five dogs from the M*A*S*H group, call Pawsitive Partners

Prison Program at 910-297-1338, email [email protected] or visit www.montyshome.org.

Any Weimaraner fans out there? My

name is Dixie (A039643) and I may not be purebred, but I think I’m pretty close! Anyway, you’ll love me no matter what

breed I am, because I’m a fantastic,

friendly and fun girl. The first thing I did

when they took me in the playroom was go straight for the toys. I was so cute with one clutched in my mouth. Then, when they asked me to sit,

I paid attention at once and promptly sat down. (That’s what I’m doing in my photo, see?) I even caught the

treats they tossed me in my mouth! I also impressed them with my other talents: shaking hands and laying down on command. I’m friendly to everyone, kids included, and I went nose to nose with other dogs in their kennels and

didn’t make a peep. I’m already house-trained and I love belly rubs! Wow, don’t I sound like a great catch for some

lucky person or family? Please hurry on over to Bruns-wick County Animal Control and adopt me! Their phone

number is 910-754-8204.

◄Hi! My name is Gucci (A253771) and I’m an adult girl who was picked up by Animal Control after being

dumped at a local veterinar-ian’s office. Now, I’m here at the shelter hoping to find true love with a forever family. I have already been spayed

and I don’t mind being held. I really enjoy being rubbed

and can chow down on some yummy treats! A sweet prin-cess like me should be cher-ished in a home and not sit-

ting alone in a cage. Contact the shelter about adopting me today!

►My owners moved and decided to bring me here to

the shelter and surrender me. My name is Bella (A253979) and I’m a pretty young thing! I’m super friendly and love to

be held. I will rub against your legs and I crave being

touched and feeling loved. I have a wonderful personality

and I’m very entertaining. When I lay down, I’ll roll over

on my back and stretch out for some belly rubs. Please call the shelter today to see

how we can be together!

►Hey, I’m Baby Girl (A253443) and I’m a

Boxer mix who loves get-ting attention from people.

I’m already spayed, I’m laid-back and I won’t jump up on you. I know several commands and tricks, I’m house-trained, I’m excel-lent on leash, I’m good with kids and I’ve lived

with other dogs. My own-ers brought me here to Animal Control and sur-rendered me because

they moved into an apart-ment and couldn’t keep

me. I’m a little bit stressed out by shelter life and pray someone will come rescue me

soon. I’m a Lap Dog looking for a lap. Could I have yours?

►Fortunately for me, I was picked up by Ani-mal Control as I was

straying down Highway 421. Now that I’m

safely here at the shel-ter, I’m focusing my energy on finding a

new home. I’m a pe-tite, Chocolate Lab

named Truffles (A252093). I’m just 2-years-old, I’m good on a leash, I will sit for a

treat and I like squeaky toys. Just being near you brings me joy and if you reach down and

pet me, that’s even better! I will be a great family dog if only given the

chance. Would you love a sweet girl like me?

◄My name is Molly (A160445) and I’m a 7-year-old, spayed Tortie and Tabby mix. I have the unique talent of being able to purr and meow at the same time! I’m a professional head-butter and can make anyone feel loved. I’m loveable, sweet and ready to move into your home today. Won’t you adopt me and let me be part of your family?

►If you are a family looking to adopt a great family dog

then, I’m your guy! My name is Duke (A248781)

and I’m a 6-month-old Bor-der Collie mix. I was sur-

rendered to Animal Control by my owner. I’m sweet

and gentle, social and friendly, and 100% Lap Dog.

I’m eager to please, willing to learn and ready to enjoy

a life full of love and adven-ture. I’m playful, good with other dogs and have a cur-

rent Rabies vaccination. Would you please love me

forever?

Page 18: PawPrints Magazine May 2011

Looking for the per-fect family compan-

ion? I’m Rosie (A039330) and I was

made for the job! Honestly, everyone

loves me at the shel-ter and they just can’t

understand how someone could have given me up. At 4-

years-old, I’m a spayed Boxer/Lab

mix girl with a loving heart and an obedi-ent nature. In my

photo, I am sitting on command for a treat.

(My photo also shows you my ador-able underbite - so cute!) I also know fetch - the PawPrints ladies threw a rope toy and I carried it back to them. We

also played tug of war with it and had such a good time! My entire body wiggles when you look at me and I really love going for walks with the shelter workers. I’m great on a

leash and never give a moment’s trouble. Oh yes, I once lived happily with other dogs and a cat. I hope by now you understand why I’m such an excellent candidate for adop-

tion. Do yourself a favor and come get me! For driving directions, or more information, call Brunswick County

Animal Control at 910-754-8204.

I am sponsored by Adam’s Folly Pet Boarding, Bolivia, NC. Thank you!

If you’re like most kind people, and you think it’s a travesty

that a 7-year-old girl is sitting at Animal Control rather than being loved by a

family, I hope you’ll come adopt me! My

name is Cubbie (A039350) and I’ll

repay your compas-sion by being the best friend you’ve every had. Like all Yellow Labs, I’m friendly by nature and have a loyal

personality. My tail wags all the time and I love everyone I meet. You can see from my photo

that I am excellent at sitting on command. I can also catch treats in my mouth! Another thing I enjoy is going on walks with the shelter workers. They say I walk well on a leash and I enjoy the fresh air, but they’ve noticed me looking around as though searching for someone. Perhaps one day I’ll see you coming for me? I hope so! Please call

Brunswick County Animal Control at 910-754-8204 and tell them you’re on your way!

◄Have you been searching for a Great

Dane to love? Or perhaps you don’t care

about breeds and simply want a wonderful

companion? I can satisfy both needs! My name is Blue and I’m a 92 pound purebred Great Dane with the

most beautiful markings. At just 1-year-old, I am already house-trained

and used to playing in a fenced-in yard. I once lived with a 6-year-old

child, so I’m accustomed to being around kids. Unfortunately, my family had to move

away. Would you like to make me your family member?

◄I know you’re probably tired of hearing about the economy (and I don’t even know what it is) but I’ve gotta tell you that’s how I lost my home! My owner lost his job and house, and I ended up here. This is your chance to scoop up a wonderful boy! My name is Crosby and I’m a 3-year-old Rottweiler who is house-trained, sweet and friendly, and already neutered. Meet me soon!

►I’m a sweetheart who enjoys living inside with my family. Would I be a

perfect match for you? My name is Petunia and I’m a 3-year-old Tabby girl who

is spayed, up to date on shots and litterbox-trained.

I like using scratching posts and I also enjoy sitting in windows and

gazing at the great out-doors. I’m good with chil-dren, other cats and dogs

and I love to be petted. Could I be your girl?

◄Hurry, hurry! I’m the last puppy available from a litter of seven and I’m extremely adorable, if I do say so my-self! At just 8-weeks-old, I’m a neutered boy who weighs in at 17 pounds. I’m a mix-ture of Lab and Boxer and I’m friendly to children. I’ve en-joyed playing with the kids who visit the shelter and I hope to go home with one soon. Adult-only households are great, too. I’ll love any-one who loves me in return!

►Can you handle all my cuteness? It’s a lot, that’s

for sure! My name is Bella and I’m a puppy, just 10-months-old. I’m

also a Cairn Terrier and I weigh in at a lap-friendly

16 pounds. I guess you’re wondering how I came to be homeless.

Well, my folks moved to an apartment where pets weren’t allowed. I can’t imagine what apartment wouldn’t want me? I’m already house-trained, crate-trained, used to

living inside and playing in a fenced-in yard. I’m good with children and lived happily with cats. I know ‘sit’, am

spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. Hurry!

Have you ever seen so much cuteness in one ador-able package? My name is Rocky Top and I’m ready to

make you smile each and every day. I’m a 2-year-old male Jack Russell/Lab mix who weighs in at a perfectly sized 36 pounds - not too

big and not too small! I am already house-trained, so

no need to worry about that, and I’m used to living in-doors with my family. A fenced-in yard is also a

must because I love to play and explore. As for friendliness, there’s nobody I don’t

love. Men, women, children, dogs and cats - they’re all my buddies! I lost my former life when my owners moved to a house where dogs weren’t allowed. Now I’m looking for-ward to the future with you! I’m neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. Come meet me today! Call the New Hanover Humane Society at 910-763-6692 so we can

get started.

I am sponsored by Levi Donovan. Please consider adoption.

It’s so nice to stretch out in this comfy cat bed! But you know what would be even nicer? Going home with you! My name is Lacey

and I’m a buff-colored girl with beautiful gold eyes to match my fur. At just 2 to 4-years of age, I lost my

home when my owner be-came allergic. Sad, I know, but this could be your lucky break. You see, I’m a won-derful, affectionate kitty who

will be happy to keep you company all day long. I’m

used to living indoors-only and I’m perfect in the litterbox. I enjoy playing with cat toys and cuddling up with my hu-mans. I lived with two small dogs and we got along just fine. Oh yes, I’m also spayed and vaccinated! Do you think I’m the girl for you? I promise to make you very

happy! Give the New Hanover Humane Society a call at 910-763-6692 and let’s make plans to meet.

with one blue eye and one brown. I’m so pretty! Right now I

weigh 50 pounds, but I could stand to gain

another five. I’m great with other dogs and love to play. I enjoy rawhides, going for

walks and getting hugged and kissed by humans. I have a gentle personality and am already spayed, vaccinated and

on heartworm prevention. Come meet me!

◄I’m a sweet, handsome, 60-pound Hound in need of a new family! I’m Beau and I was part of a litter of twelve puppies that was adopted out four years ago. Sadly, my owner

became very ill and could no longer keep me. The good news is that I have perfect house manners and am well behaved! I walk nicely on a leash,

am house-trained, can sit for a cookie, and I get

along well with other dogs and human children. I am even used to sleeping in bed with my family, if it’s allowed. Please give me a home!

very well with the six other dogs living with me.

I’m also spayed, up to date on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention.

My name is Kohl and I’m a very handsome 6-year-old

Pointer/Lab mix who is sweet and loving as can be. I just don’t understand why I haven’t yet been adopted? I watch while other dogs

come and go and wonder when it will be my turn. I love being with humans

and would be an excellent companion. I’m house-trained, neutered, up to date on shots and on heartworm prevention. I love going for walks and am

a gentle boy at 60 pounds. Please visit me soon!

My name is Libby but you might want to call me ‘Libby the Lovebug’. I bet you can guess why, but

I’ll tell you anyway: I’m a very sweet and affection-

ate girl who is simply grateful for the touch of a kind hand and any loving words. I was found as an

underweight stray with my canine buddy, Gus.

He’s a Hound and is also at the shelter looking for a loving home. (You can

see him on page 33.) I’ve reached a healthy

weight in the months that I’ve been here and have made a very positive impression on everyone with my mellow, gen-tle personality. I rarely even bark and recently enjoyed a walk on the beach with SOAR’s manager. I’m under 2-

years-old and would love to be part of a family. Won’t you come meet me? I am already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. Give SOAR a call at 910-457-6340

and let’s get to know one another!

I am sponsored in appreciation of everyone who has rescued a homeless animal.

Hi! My name is Nancy, I think. That's what my

foster parents have been calling me. My

foster dad found me in a neighborhood near River Road and I was so excited! He tried and tried to find my

family but they just dis-appeared into thin air. I am some sort of Shep-

herd mix and weigh about 40 pounds. I'm about a year old and

already I can sit, stay, come when called, lay down AND roll over!

I'm totally crate-trained, already spayed and I’m up to date on my Rabies vaccina-

tion. And boy oh boy do I have energy! I would love to live in a home with a fenced-in yard or with an active family since I love to run and play. I would make a really good running buddy with a little more leash-training. My foster home has two dogs and a cat and they are so much fun! Would I be a good match for you? How can you look at

this face and say no? Call my foster daddy at 910-264-6639 and tell him you want to meet me!

Hi there, my name is Ray! Can you believe

that a precious boy like me was found by Animal Control wan-dering around all by

myself? My hair was so long and matted that I could not even defecate and I was in misery. But to top it all off, I am BLIND! How I managed to stay alive for so long on my own is a

mystery and blessing. After I had a nice grooming and felt clean again, my true gentlemanly side came out. I am

house-trained and already crate-trained. I do need stabil-ity and consistency to remain comfortable in my surround-

ings. Schnauzer Rescue of the Carolinas is working on getting me a very expensive eye surgery that costs

around $2,700. If you think you could donate anything at all it would be a major help because as soon as I have my surgery I will be ready to find my forever home, one that won’t abandon me. I’ll never be alone in the dark again!

If you would like to make a donation, please do so at www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. If you are

interested in me and would like to find out more, go to www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. There you can fill out an application online and view other adoptable res-

and I’m a very sweet, laid-back, Boxer mix girl. If you knew my sad story you would want to spoil me for the rest of my life! I am already spayed, vaccinated and on heart-worm prevention. I am also house-trained, and I do not chew or jump onto furniture. I have been around cats,

other dogs and teenage boys and have been very friendly to everyone. Please give me your heart! I promise to love you forever and ever. For more information about adopt-

Feature Story

PawPrints Magazine’s 9th Annual Cover Model Search

The Judges’ Decisions Are In: Winning Cover Cats and Runners-Up

Winning Cover Cats “Pippin” & “Poppin”

Submitted by: Nancy Cox

In September of 2007, my best friend, Tiggy, suc-cumbed to Chronic Renal Failure, just 10 days before his twentieth birthday. His death was quite sudden and com-pletely devastating to me. I knew, of course that there would be another cat in my life but I didn’t think it would be soon. I found myself searching the internet sites “just to look.” I saw a litter of orange Tabby cats appear in a Cat Tails listing. I’m very partial to orange Tabbies and if I’d had the space and fi-nances to care for them, I’d have adopted them all but that wasn’t possible, so I kept watching the ad as the kittens were adopted. Finally it appeared one was left. His name was Pippin, so out to Petsmart I went. Could I do this? Was I ready for another cat? I still missed Tiggy so much but my house was so quiet and just wasn’t a home any longer. I went in and met Pippin and it was love at first sight. I then found out that one of his brothers was also there. Of course, I couldn’t leave a brother behind, so Poppin came home with me, too. I’ve had 6 surgeries since their adoption and have had to spend a lot of time in bed. They have taken such good care of me! Poppin has turned into the bodyguard, helping to answer the door and not allowing anyone into my bed-room until he hears me say it’s OK. Pippin, though bigger, is still the baby, preferring to sit and nap with his Mama. These two rascals have brought such joy into my life, when joy was needed more than ever. It’s hard to feel sorry for yourself with two purring friends in bed with you!

1st Runner-Up

“Socks” Submitted by: Stephen Reish

Our cat, Socks, was in a life-threatening situation when she was found cuddled up against the radiator of a truck. Thankfully, someone managed to notice the kitten and noti-fied everyone she knew via email. There were pictures of her they had taken that day. Gazing into those dark pools called eyes, this kitten said, “Help me. You're my only hope.” My Dad knew that day she was perfect. In fact, had it not been for him, Socks would most likely have been put down, as she was due to go to the pound at 1:00pm. As an addi-tional treat, it was the last day of school. I remember vividly my sister, only 5 at the time, saying, “Is that a robot?” Every day, I wake up thinking how much better it is now that we have her. And at 6:15 in the morning, every morn-ing, I get ready and she's always there, rubbing against my legs. Socks is loving and very affectionate. She used to be timid and took about a week to get used to new people. Now she’s warming up to new folks much faster, sometimes rubbing up against them! Curiosity may have killed a cat, but not this one! Socks pokes her head in everything. She gets on guard when we get a new appliance or piece of furniture, sniffs it, rubs it, and walks away. She loves to chase a flashlight beam and becomes puzzled when I turn the flashlight off. Overall, Socks is the entire package. If you ever get the chance to meet her, you’ll agree. Everyone says: “She's puuurrfect!”

2nd Runner-Up “Merlin”

Submitted by: Mozelle Bowers

I adopted my first cat in 2008 on October 24th. His name is Merlin. We called him Merlin because he was gray so we thought he was wise like the character Merlin in Jack and Annie’s Magical Tree House. We adopted him from Cat Tails at our local Petsmart. Ever since I adopted Merlin my life has been so much better. The day I adopted Merlin was so exciting! He was the kitten that purred the most out of his whole litter. When I was holding him a thought arose upon me: “Are my mom and dad going to let me adopt him?” so I started crying then my mom asked me why and I said “Because I want to keep him.” That night I ended up bringing home Merlin. Ever since that night he has turned into a loving and caring cat. Whenever I come home from school Merlin is always waiting at the door to greet me. He also knows when you are upset or crying. Every time I cry he is always rubbing my knee and he always makes me feel better. My cat Merlin should be on the cover because he is very photogenic. Once you pull your camera out you won’t be able to stop. He loves to pose in all sorts of ways. He obviously loves the camera and all the attention he gets. When Merlin is on the cover of PawPrints I know read-ers will want to go out and adopt a pet so they can have the happy experience I have had.

3rd Runner-Up (tie)

“Noland” Submitted by: Vivian Perry

When introduced, many people find Noland to be an odd cat name. Under normal circumstances, I might agree, but Noland has been an exceptionally special spot in my life since his strange beginnings. It was my third Saturday at Petsmart in search of the perfect kitten. My only requirement was a kitten fast to my heart. On the third pass through that week's kittens, I thought that I would have to return for yet another Saturday of browsing. While walking by an end-capping kennel, I met eyes with Noland, ‘Bright Eyes’ at the time [and later Nala] and thought, ‘That's the one!’ After the paperwork, I took my little princess home. I changed the name from ‘Bright Eyes’ to ‘Nala’. She was immediately at home. I had never seen a kitten so comfortable so soon. I knew it was meant to be. Over the next few weeks I began to notice that my little princess seemed more a devious prince, and began to wonder whether I had been misinformed. Later that week while flipping through a new issue of PawPrints, I noticed ads for the remainder of her litter. While scanning the photos, I noticed a photo of Nala! Still up for adoption, only the name was ‘Spunky’. I read Spunky's bio and it was a perfect fit to Nala. ‘Bright Eyes’ had been mistaken for Spunky, and I actually had adopted a boy. The vet then verified it, (and I got a little class on how to tell the difference). Again, I had no preference for sex, but Nala had already learned his name. I had to do

something, and so as not to confuse him, Noland was born, and I loved him all the more for his unusual beginnings. Noland and I, at our young ages, have a few exceptional stories we could tell detailing our youth, (he promised he wouldn't if I didn't). I knew when I saw him, and everyday he greets me at the door, that he's my perfect fit. And we continue to make memories!

3rd Runner-Up (tie) “Fraidy”

Submitted by: Tammy Warrell

Our cat Fraidy came to us about 6-years ago now. When he first showed up in the driveway he was so scared that he looked like a black and white streak, that's how he got the name Fraidy. Then one cold and snowy December day we opened the back door and there he sat, sneezing and with his eye swelled shut. We took him to the vet, got him some medicine and got him well. He's been ours ever since. He is the most lovey cat, he loves to snuggle. He puts his paws on both sides of your neck and cuddles. He is also very funny, he thinks the dog is his girlfriend and he loves to sit next to her and look at her with big cow eyes. The dog does not think it’s funny, she looks at us like “What is this cat doing?” Bringing Fraidy into our home has been one of the best decisions we have ever made.

Hi! We are Oscar and Stitch, and we came from

a situation of neglect where we were tied up

outside 24/7 enduring all the elements. We are both

looking for a home to shower us with the love and attention we should have received from day one. I’m Oscar, a very

playful 20 pound mini-Schnauzer who loves everyone I meet and have never met a stranger. It

would be great for me to go to a home with a fenced-in yard so I can run and play. I love playing

with toys and showering you with affection! My buddy Stitch is a 12 pound tiny Terrier who, like me, is very friendly and a true lovebug!

He will keep you laughing with his antics; he is a true comedian. He

gets along very well with other dogs and cats. We have been life-long companions but we do not need to be

adopted together. We do, however, need to be adopted by a family who already has a dog as we need that canine

companionship. Both of us would be a delight to have in any home and would give all the love and affection you

could ask for! If you are interested in one of us (or both), please go to www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org.

There you can fill out an application online and view other adoptable rescues. If you need an application mailed or

faxed, call 910-264-8300.

Hello there! I’m Sugar Mama and above me is my

handsome son, JJ. I’ve passed down my beautiful or-ange and white

markings to him, and he’s also inher-ited my friendly and sweet personality!

We were found abandoned in a field and are looking for loving homes. We do not

have to be adopted to-gether; we can be adopted

separately. I’m around 4-years-old and JJ is

thought to be one year younger, which would make him three. I also have three

other children looking for homes, and they are orange colored as well. We are all

spayed/neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. We also get along just fine with dogs and other cats. We hope to meet you soon - you can find out how friendly we are in person! Call Sherry at 910-233-5339 and let’s arrange a

get-together.

We are sponsored in loving memory of Harry, an affectionate orange and white cat who loved to eat.

◄I’m a pure-white boy named Christian (FM3287) and I would

surely make your house a home! Just

looking at me will lower your blood pressure as

I’m so relaxed and mellow. I’m already

neutered and litterbox trained, and I get along well with other kitties.

In fact, my former owner brought me

and two others to the shelter for financial

reasons. I’m just 2 to 4-years-old, very affectionate and very loving.

►Hi! My name is Jasper (CM3495) and

my brown eyes are beseeching you to

come adopt me! I’ve been here since March 14 of this year and I’m so tired of shelter life.

Everything thinks I once belonged to someone because I’m great on a leash and friendly to all

I meet. Still, no one has claimed me and I’m

ready to enjoy the future with you! I’m just around 1-year-old and am a male Shepherd

mix. You’ll love me, I promise, so hurry!

◄I could have laid in this person’s lap all day! My name is

Benson (CM3653) and I’m a white Bulldog boy with a heart of gold. I am so happy when I’m given attention and I’m very cuddly! It’s hard to meet me and not fall in love. I like all people, men included, but I have a fondness for women. I walk well on a leash and am

yearning for a home. No cats, though, as

they get me a bit too excited! Come let me kiss you!

►See how I’m flopped over in my photo, just begging you

with my eyes to touch me? This

is what I do when someone opens my cage door - I don’t try to jump out, my main objective

is to be rubbed! Affectionate, friendly cats like me are highly prized, so why am I at Animal Control? My name is Tabitha (FF3024) and I’m a 1-year-old girl who was found as a stray. I’d be such a friendly companion to anyone, from adults to

children. Won’t you please come meet me?

◄I’m a gorgeous Tabby girl with distinctive Bullseye markings that make everyone say, “Wow, she’s beautiful!” My name is Tiffany (FF3120) and I came to the shelter on January 7 of this year. I had wandered up to a stranger’s house and he fed me for a few days while looking for my owner. No one claimed me, so you’re in luck! I enjoy being held and am very affectionate. Please take me home where I belong!

◄If sweet-natured Tabbies are your feline of choice, you’re gonna love

me! My name is Mia (FF3030) and I’m a 2-

year-old girl who recently lost my home. My owner had too many cats and

had to bring some to the shelter. I’m a calm,

friendly and loving girl who happily sits at the front of my cage so you can rub me from head to

toe. Even though the door is open, I don’t try to hop out, I just want to sit with you and be loved. Adopt me!

◄Hey there, my name is Ronald! I’m a playful Lab/Shepherd mix born on November 23, 2010. My pregnant mom was found as a stray by a very nice family. She gave birth to seven ba-bies, including me. All of them have been adopted, but I’m still waiting! I love to play with toys and I enjoy going for walks with my friends at the shelter, but my life isn’t complete without a family! Won’t you come meet me?

►I’m a mellow and relaxed girl named

Stovie! Let me tell you how I got my name: I was once a stray in Burgaw whom many people were trying to catch. I ran from one

end of the county to the next, but at night I always returned to

Stover’s Auction. Now I don’t know why I was running! I’ll be a great

family dog as I’m house-trained, leash-trained, friendly to other dogs

and children. I’m a Shepherd mix and I’m beautiful!

◄Is your heart already melting? Well, just come meet me - I’m too precious to be believed! My name is Arthur and I’m an 8-week-old orange male Tabby kitten. I am the only kitten left out of a litter of four. They were all adopted and so was my mama! How can this be? Now that the news is out I’m sure folks will come running so you’d better be the first! I’m kissable, cuddly, playful, healthy and friendly. I’ll love you so very much!

◄I’m a little guy with a sad story, but I bet you can give me a happy ending! My name is

Bounty and my folks fell upon hard times. They’d

had me since I was a puppy, but they dropped me off at Animal Control. Pender County Humane

Society saw me there and took me in. Now I’m

looking for a loving family to make me whole again!

I’m a 6 to 8-year-old Chihuahua/Min Pin mix with a bobbed tail. I’m

house-trained, leash-trained and very friendly. Let’s go!

I’d like to get up, but it’s

just so cozy in this cat bed! My name is Creamsicle

and I’m a 3-year-old

boy who is as mellow and

loving as they come. I

simply adore humans and am so appreciative of any attention that I receive. I was found as a stray, but I must have once belonged to someone as I just

have that ‘family cat’ feel about me. I love other felines and am already neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained!

◄You’d be hard-pressed to find a friendlier, sweeter girl than me! My name is

Gypsy and I want to settle down with you. I’m a loving, completely non-

aggressive Pit Bull girl who never meets a stranger.

My smiling face welcomes all the people who come to

greet me! I am already spayed, up to date on shots and on heartworm preven-tion. I dearly love squeaky toys and I will take treats very gently from your fin-

gers. Please visit the shel-ter and let’s get to know one another. You’ll see I’m great!

When will it finally be my turn to be adopted? So many of my SOAR

friends have found families, but I’m still waiting. My name is

Homer and I’m a 6-year-old Hound mix

who is eager to please, a good listener, and very intelligent. I’m

neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. I’m ex-tremely affectionate and would love to be

part of an active family who goes on daily

walks or outings to the beach or park. I love running and I love agility. Do you have a warm heart, a cozy home and

a 6-foot, fenced-in yard? Are you experienced with my breed? A confident pack leader is just what I need!

How did a handsome boy like me end up in this pre-dicament? Could you help me out? My name is Toby (CM3432) and I’m a 1 to 2-year-old Boxer/Hound mix

who arrived at the shelter in February of this year. It was cold then and now it’s getting hot! I would love to find my-

self in an air-conditioned home as summer ap-

proaches. I was once a stray that someone began feeding.

When they couldn’t find my family, they brought me here. I never thought a terrific dog like me would be here for so long - I wonder how I’ve been overlooked! I possess a

sweet, friendly personality, am of medium build, and I have heart-melting brown eyes. To meet me, please call Pender County Animal Control at 910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-279-3196. They’ll be happy to give you driving direc-

tions or tell you even more!

◄Need a buddy? My name is Baby and I’d love to be your new family member! I’m a 3-year-old, spayed female Lab mix who gets along with everyone: men, women and children. I also play well with other dogs. I came from Animal Control, but I appear to be house-trained, as I don’t want to answer nature’s call in my kennel. I always try to wait for someone to let me out first. I’m friendly, playful and enjoy going for walks. I hope you’ll come visit me!

◄I’m Lucciano, a yellow male

sweetheart. I got the name from the

way I called for food when I was

very young. I was born ap-

proximately July 14, 2010. The

reason I’m still in my foster home is

that I was such a nice cat my foster parents considered keeping me. They would give me up, however, to a really

good permanent home. I don’t call loudly anymore, by the way, but I do like to eat and I tend to be a little over-weight, just like my late namesake, the famous opera

tenor, Lucciano Pavarotti! To meet me, please call my SOAR foster mom at 910-278-4437.

►Hello! I’m an extremely affectionate

Hound boy named Gus. I was found on Ocean Isle as a stray and was so skinny. Since my

arrival, I’ve put on some weight and I’ve im-

pressed everyone with my friendly, loving na-ture. I haven’t even barked yet! I love to

play and am estimated to be around 1-year-old. I don’t jump up on peo-ple and I’m good with other dogs. You’ll find

I’m quite handsome, too, so come on over and meet me!

►My extremely loveable personality has made me

quite a favorite around here! The SOAR manager says that as soon as you open my kennel door, I’m ready and waiting to be held and cuddled. My

name is Blue and I think it’s my mission to make

every human feel cherished and loved. At

4-years-old, I’m a grey and white Tabby boy who is already neutered, up to

date on shots and litterbox-trained. Living with me

would be a delight as every fibre of my being is loving and kind. Do yourself a favor and adopt me today!

►Searching for the perfect family friend? How about me, my

name is Foxy! I’m a spayed Boxer mix who couldn’t be

kinder, sweeter, or more friendly. At just 2-years-old, I love human adults and children and

have absolutely no dog or cat aggres-sion. I love to play

with toys, take walks and interact with humans. My nickname is “Wiggles” be-

cause my entire body wiggles when I greet people. I have a docked tail and beautiful brown eyes. I’m also vaccinated

and on heartworm prevention. Come meet me today!

►A declawed darling is right here waiting! As

you can see, I enjoy being with humans and being held. My name is

Cali and I’m a 3-year-old Tabby who is very

sweet and loveable. My owner took a job in

Southport and had to move to a place that

doesn’t allow cats. Now I’m available for

you! I’m spayed, up to date on shots and

litterbox-trained. Let’s go home together.

Hi, my name is Peaches! You can’t tell by my

smiling face, but my earlier life was a sad one. I was

kept outside all the time and gave

birth to litter after litter of puppies. But all that has

changed! My new friends at the shel-ter say I’ll soon be

someone’s faithful companion and, with my spay surgery complete, I’ll never have to worry about puppies again. I’m an 8-year-old, friendly and loving Golden Retriever mix. All

I want is some TLC and a nice place to live. I lived in a foster home for a while and am fully house-trained. I dis-covered air conditioning is a wonderful invention! I’m also vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. I’m not asking

for much, just kindness and good care. I’ll give you lots of love in return. Please call Paw’s Place at 910-845-7297

and let’s get started on our new life together!

I am sponsored by Marybeth and Elliott Tepper in loving honor of Tripp (who was adopted from Paw’s

Place). We love him so much!

My name is Cooper and I

was found wan-dering around a farm in Fayette-ville, NC. I was scooped up and then moved in with a foster

family. I have been living there for 3-weeks and

have put on some weight. I’ve also learned house manners and simple commands such as "sit" and "come." I am com-pletely house-trained and used to staying in my crate during

the day while my foster parents work. The vet thinks I’m about 6-months-old. I am heartworm negative, have had my first round of shots and have been de-wormed. I love other dogs but would probably do well with a home with a younger dog as I’m a puppy and like to play. My foster mom and dad would love to keep me because I’m the

sweetest little guy but they already have 2 big dogs who aren't used to sharing! Please call 910-297-3396 to find out how we can meet or to inquire about the adoption process.

pounds and am house-trained and crate-trained. I’m good with other dogs, too! At just 4 to 5-years-old, I’m spayed, vacci-

◄I’m Rosie! I’m a medium-sized Pug/Spitz mix and, at

just 4-years-old, I’m a smart, friendly girl who would be a great agility dog. I adore

children and am friendly to adult humans as well! I do

have issues with some dogs, but I’m great with cats. I’ve been working with an obedi-ence trainer and would love to continue this training with

my new family. I’m also spayed, vaccinated and on

heartworm prevention. You’d be so lucky to share your life with a great girl like me!

◄It’s me, Hero! I am finished with my heartworm treatment and am now all ready to go home with my new family! Could my new

family be reading this? I am a Retriever/Chow mix who is

very humble and loves people. I am friendly but reserved around other

dogs. I will chase a cat. I am also house-trained,

crate-trained and a wonderful, funny guy. I am learning my basic

commands. When I come in the house for my treat, I will

sit and my eyes get real big like I am opening my mouth. I want to please and am as gentle and sweet as they come. Would you please consider bringing me home with you?

◄I’m a sweet, young, male Akita/Chow mix

named Ted! I am new to the rescue. They are

still getting my medical workup, but unfortunately I am heartworm positive. I am a quiet but active dog

and I’ve behaved well around other dogs. I am also neutered. If you’d like to make a donation toward my care, please

◄I’m a heartmelter! My name is Jai and I’m a

happy, happy male puppy who is learning the basics

such as house-training, crate-training and leash-

training. I’m just 8-months-old and am also working with an

obedience trainer. My coat is a bold red and

black brindle, almost like tiger stripes. I may be mixed with American

Staffordshire Terrier and Lab. I’m still fairly small,

and I play well with dogs. Adopt me and let’s enjoy life!

BIG THANKS!!

We would like to thank Hope from Helen and K38’s Cinco de Bow Wow for their generous

donations to our rescue.

PIT BULL AMBASSADOR

ALERT! My name is Lucy and I am a very happy girl. I

am so sweet, loving and extremely friendly.

I LOVE people and everything and every-one I meet. I am de-voted to my family but their landlord forced

them to get rid of me. You see, two weeks

after he rented our new home to them he found out I was a Pit Bull. He gave them back their pet deposit and said get rid of the dog or get out! It's too bad he

didn't give me a chance or meet me because he would have found out that I don't have a mean bone in my body. I do great with other dogs, love kids and am fine with cats, too. Please don't judge the breed.

Judge the deed and I have done nothing wrong to no one and nothing. I would make a FANTASTIC

family pet. I am drop dead gorgeous with my bleached white fur. I am spayed, up to date on

shots and heartworm negative. If you would like to know more about me or would like to inquire about adoption, call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557.

I’m a precious, 7-pound purebred Dachshund named Mystery! It’s definitely a ‘mystery’

how a sweetheart like me ever became home-

less. I’m an 8 to 10-month-old girl who was

found on someone’s front porch. I’m cur-

rently living in a foster home and enjoying

every minute. I’m house-trained, playful and

affectionate and I get along great with children and other dogs. I’m not at all aggressive to anyone, even cats! In fact, I try to

play with them, but they don’t seem to understand my intentions are good. Mostly I play with my foster

mom’s dog - we have such a fun time! I walk well on a leash and go for strolls every morning and night. I love to be outside, but I’m equally happy to be a lap dog. I sleep in a crate, but would love to sleep with you if it’s allowed. As for my health, I am spayed,

vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. I hope you can see how easily I’d fit into anyone’s home - there’s

no ‘mystery’ about it! If you’d like to meet me, call Pender County Humane Society at 910–259-7022.

We are sponsored by the Miss Avis Davis Fund.

My name is Recess and I was dumped in the K-2

playground at Bolivia Elementary School. Yup, you heard it

right, they dropped me into the play-

ground and left me there. Just in case I

somehow got in there on my own, ads were

run looking for my owner, but no one

claimed me. I am now neutered but I did test positive for heartworms, so I will be undergoing heartworm treatment very soon. If you would like to donate to-ward my vet bills, you may please do so online at

www.adoptanangel.net or you can mail tax-deductible donations to Adopt-An-ANGEL at P.O. Box 15095,

Wilmington, NC 28408. I am one of those very loving dogs who leans into you for love and I melt when you touch me. I am very attached to my people so it would be great if I went to a home where someone is home a lot. Also, I like dogs so that would be cool, too. If you

would like to know more about me or would like to inquire about adoption, call Adopt-An-ANGEL at

I’m a blue-eyed Siamese boy who is ready to steal your heart! My name is

Cicero and my foster mom wants you to know that I’m the

sweetest boy ever! I love to be held and petted, I’ll sleep in

bed beside you if it’s allowed, and I’ll keep you company while

you surf the internet. I get along great with dogs and other cats and I’m generally a

quiet fellow. The only time I’m really vocal is when I’m riding in the car on the way to a vet visit. (But most

cats are like that, I’ve heard.) Speaking of vets, I’m in excellent health! I’m neutered, vaccinated and litter-box-trained. I guess by now you’re wondering how I ever wound up homeless. Well, my owner died and

there was no one left to take care of me. At 6-years of age, I have a lot of love and affection to give my new family in the future ahead. Do yourself a favor and

call about me today! I’m with Pender County Humane Society and their number is 910-259-7022.

Shelter News & Events

Foster Homes Desperately Needed! Pender County Animal Shelter, which houses dogs taken in by Pender County Animal Control, is in need of help. Says Darlene Clewis, shelter manager, “We need foster homes for approximately 25 to 30 dogs. Adopt-An-ANGEL has been helping the shelter since January and has adopted out approximately 30 dogs already. Your new foster dog or puppy can go through Adopt-An ANGEL and get vetted, then the new foster parent can take his or her foster dog or puppy to Petco on Saturdays and Sundays to find a permanent home.” Call 910-279-3196 to offer help.

‘Smile’ for the Camera Paw's Place Animal Rescue in Boiling Spring Lakes will hold its Annual Pet Photo Fundraiser on Sunday, May 1 from 11am to 4pm in downtown Southport. Long-time Wilmington and official PawPrints cover photogra-pher, Dick Parrott, will memorialize your precious pets at Four Legs Good Pet Boutique (in the former Cool Dogs and Crazy Cats location), 310 N. Howe Street. The cost is $25 and will include one thumbnail proof with multiple poses and a CD of high resolution images of your pet, which will allow you to make as many photos as you'd like. For more information, please contact Paws Place at 910-845-7297 or Peggy at 910-253-9258.

Donations Needed for Rescued Dogs Undergoing Heartworm Treatment Currently, Adopt-An-ANGEL (AAA) has 22 dogs undergoing heartworm treatment at the same time! Even at non-profit discounted rates, the treatment runs between $250-500 per dog depending on each dog’s weight. With 22 dogs going through treatment at the same time, it will cost the organization between $5,000 to $8,000 - which is disastrous for a small rescue. If a lot of people help a little, the expense will be much more manageable. If you would like to pitch in, please mail checks to: Adopt-An-ANGEL, P.O. Box 15095, Wilmington, NC 28408 or visit www.adoptanangel.net. Vet bills are online for you to review at "our vet bills" under the "about us" tab. Call 910-392-0557 for other questions.

Puppies and Kittens Need Your Help! Adopt-An-ANGEL (AAA) is seeking foster homes for young kittens and puppies. AAA will pay for vetting if you provide transportation, food, room and board. AAA is also providing a limited number of vouchers to Brunswick residents for spay/neuter surgeries for dogs to help curb the amount of puppies entering the shelters. Please call 910-392-0557 if you would like to foster and save the lives of puppies or kittens or for more info on the Brunswick dog voucher program.

Adopt a M*A*S*H Dog The 4077th is stationed in Pender County! That’s right, the five shelter dogs enrolled in the Pawsitive Partners Prison Program are named after those fantastic folks in the legendary TV show M*A*S*H. Enlisted for nine weeks of basic training, they’ll learn all the maneuvers to be the perfect pet. They receive their honorable discharge on May 26 and will be available for adoption. So step lively to get first in line for these great little soldiers to add to your troop. To view their photos and fill out an adoption application, visit www.montyshome.org, call 910-297-1338 or email [email protected].

It’s me again, Gracie! You might remember me from last month’s issue. For those who

don’t, here’s my story: I was hit by a van that

didn’t even stop! Luck-ily a wonderful couple

saw me get hit and rushed to my rescue.

They headed to the vet and had me examined. I had a dislocated hip, a fracture in my pelvis and

a lot of small wounds and scrapes. The cou-ple have adopted two dogs from SOAR, so they called the shelter and SOAR agreed to

take me in! My two guardian angels are fostering me while I heal. I’m a 9-month-old Boxer mix girl who is still in the process of healing but doing well. I will not need any sur-gery, but I visit the doctor for check-ups. If you would like to donate toward my medical care, please send your tax-deductible contribution to SOAR, 3376 St. Charles Place,

Southport, NC 28461. An account has also been set up for me at Four Paws Animal Hospital, 4320 Southport-Supply Rd SE #500, Southport, NC 28461. Please put “SOAR’s Baby” in the memo line. I love people and am good with

other dogs, so I am a great adoption candidate. For more information on adopting me, call SOAR at 910-457-6340.

I am sponsored by SOAR in loving memory of all their

wonderful, furry friends who made it safely to the Rainbow Bridge.

Here I am at a Paw’s Place adoption fair,

waiting for my new fam-ily to find me. I behave so beautifully in public and would be a great

companion for anyone! My name is Skittles and I’m a 35 pound Hound girl who just

turned 1-year-old at the end of March. I wish I could have celebrated my birthday in my new home! Still, I have high hopes that I’ll soon find

the family of my dreams. I am a house-trained darling who lost my former home because a new baby was coming and

there was no time for me. I’m great with cats and other dogs, but would probably be happiest as the only dog since I can be protective of my food. If you’d like to see what a

wonderful, loving boy I am, please call Paw’s Place at 910-845-7297 and let’s arrange a day to meet!

I am sponsored by Marybeth and Elliott Tepper in

loving memory of Charleston and Scarlet, who loved all their sisters and brothers. We all miss you so much.

A darling boy like me should be living with a family! When will it be

my turn to be loved? My name is Cole and I’m a very affectionate fellow who can’t get enough cuddles and kisses. I

turned 1-year-old in April, and I was hoping to cele-brate with my new family. Please adopt me so that I can spend my next birth-

day with you! I am al-ready neutered, vacci-

nated and litterbox-trained. I play beautifully

with the other cats at the shelter and enjoy meeting every new person who walks in the door. We’re in a cage-less environment so you can pick me up or watch me interact with the others. I’ll show you why I’m the one you should be bringing home today! Please call Pender County Hu-

mane Society at 910-259-7022 and let’s get started on our brand new life.

I am sponsored by Adair Douglass and Channell.

Thank you!

My name is Herman and I’m a

very sweet and loving Hound dog. I’m calm and laid-back but I do enjoy daily walks. The Hound in me just

loves all the differ-ent smells to be

found in this great big world. I am

approximately 3-years-old, I’ve al-ready been neu-tered, I’m current

on all vaccinations and I tested nega-

tive for heartworms! I’m really good with

other dogs and I mean really good. I have the best time playing with them. I’m also good with cats but my new home would ideally have another pooch for me to love.

I’m good on a leash, I’m quieter than most other Hounds and I would love for my new home to have a fenced yard that I can go out and play in. If you could help me out by

opening up your heart and home to me, I’ll promise to give all my unconditional love to you! For more info or to adopt

me, please call Furever Friends Animal Rescue at 910-383-2100 (Monday through Saturday between 8am-6pm).

I am sponsored by State Farm Rob Cutting Insurance

Agency in honor of Luna.

I’m a Teddy Bear come to life! And I’m twice as cud-

dly, too. Just look at my smile and you’ll see what a friendly and huggable companion I

would be. My name is Rosco

and it’s quite perplexing that I

don’t have a fam-ily to love. Dogs

like me aren’t meant to be

alone in a shel-ter! I’m a me-

dium-sized Chow/Lab mix with a giant personality. I love everyone! I have a great time playing with other dogs and I’m gentle around chil-

dren. I love eating treats and am so happy to have atten-tion from humans. Oh yes, I’m also house-trained, neu-tered, up to date on vaccinations and on heartworm pre-vention. Don’t miss your chance to share life with an in-credible boy like me! Call Pender County Humane Soci-

ety at 910-259-7022 and let’s start loving each other soon!

My name is Baby and I am a petite, purebred Persian. I am solid black and have

lovely golden eyes. I am an older lady, 10-years-old, and would love to have someone dote on me, rub and brush

me. I love attention and get along with other cats. I have been kept current on my vet visits, I am spayed and also front declawed so you don’t have to worry about me scratching your furniture. If you

think you would like for me to be your lap companion, please email [email protected] or call 910-259-3502.

My name is Tiffany. I am a 5-year-old female Red-Lored Amazon. I can say "hello" and would love to have some-one teach me more words. I am fully flighted and like to fly short distances in the house. I am very friendly and

outgoing and will willingly "step up" on your hand. I love fresh fruits, veggies and cooked foods. I love people and other birds and don't mind cats or dogs. To foster or adopt me or another of the many parrots of all species who are awaiting homes, visit www.phoenixlanding.org (click on the link for adoption/

OPERATION TOPCAT

My name is Francesca and I’m a spayed girl who is par-ticularly sweet and cuddly. I'm probably about 2-years-

old and I'm a real people cat. I even get along well

with others like me and am mellow in general, but I also

like to play. Mostly, I just want to give hugs, look into your eyes adoringly and be on your lap as much as possible! I

also do special head butts that I like to hold and nose touches, too. I'll be so happy to be someone's love bug!

I've had all the necessary vetting, so I'm ready for my new forever (indoor only) home! Contact my foster mom at 910-

270-9892 for more info. To meet more adoptable kitties, visit www.petfinder.com/shelters/NC250.html.

I’m Duncan, the black and white Dutch bunny. You may remem-ber me from last year. Well, I’m back, looking once again for my forever home. Only this time, I

have a special friend with me so I won’t be lonely. Meet Hazel, the love of my life. Isn’t she

cute? She is a 3 pound, gray dwarf bunny, spayed, litterbox-trained and really friendly and sweet. Oh, and did I men-tion, totally devoted to me? You can usually find us snug-gled up together. She loves to groom my face and ears,

and while I am the more adventurous one, she is never far behind, always up for some running and playing. We both like people and attention and would really love to come live at your house. For more info on how to adopt us, please contact Cape Fear House Rabbit Society by calling 910-

471-7854 or emailing [email protected]. You can also visit www.capefearrabbits.org for more details.

ONSLOW PARTNERS FOR ANIMAL WELFARE

My name was Rosco and my time was quickly running out at a local Ani-mal Control. A very nice lady emailed my picture and story around. Luckily a Good Samaritan saw that email and raced to the shelter to get me. She

even called telling them she was com-ing because there were now only min-utes left. She adopted me and took me home but soon found out I was

very sick with kennel cough. With her love and gentle touch she nursed me

back to health and gave me a new name, Jack. Look at me now! I am neutered, up to date on

all shots and heartworm negative. I am a Shepherd and Labrador Retriever mix, about 30 pounds and 5-months-

old. Please visit www.oc-paw.com to see me in my action video on the page titled me, JACK. If you can give me a

forever home, please call Dotty at 484-883-3552.

My name is Gracie and I've been looking for a home for a

few months now. I can't under-stand how I've been overlooked. I'm a sweet, playful cat who gets

along with everyone - men, women, other cats and even

dogs. I'm a light gray Tabby and have been told that I'm very

pretty. I like to cuddle and play and I love to look out the window

and watch the birds. I'm almost 1-year-old but I still weigh just 6 pounds. I'll always be a petite girl. I'm up to date on my shots, spayed and tested negative for FIV and Feline

Leukemia. Don't you need a sweet playful kitty in your life? Please call 910-271-3101 for more information.

I’ve Been Wait-ing Two Years

for a Home!

Hello! I’m Lola and I’m a very sweet girl who

adores people. I’m a 4-year-old Shep-herd/Lab mix and

all I want is to please and be

loved. I do have an old cruciate ligament injury

which requires me to stay on glucosa-mine chondroiton for my lifetime. It

would be helpful if I were hand walked on a regular basis to strengthen my muscles. I’m not so fond of other fe-male dogs, but I interact very well with larger, docile

male dogs. I’m behaving beautifully at a dog boarding facility and working with a trainer as well! If you have an interest in adopting me and would like to be involved in

my training, please call the Sunburst Foundation at 910-622-0011. Or, if you’re not able to adopt at this time, but would like to foster me temporarily, that would be great!

Just call Sunburst or email them at [email protected].

I am sponsored by Hank and Grace Harrington.

Thank you!

My name is Blackie and I was rescued by Pender

County Animal Control Shelter. I had been hit by a car and my back

leg was pretty banged up. They transferred me to

Furever Friends so that I could get

medical treatment. My hip and leg had been broken and have since been repaired. I even went to physical

therapy a few times a week to help

build the muscles back up in my leg. I’m a very happy, super sweet dog who is full of love. I’m approximately 3-years-old, vaccinated, neutered, leash-trained, crate-trained and I’m good with

kids, cats and other dogs. I did test positive for heartworms and am undergoing treatment for them at no additional cost to my adoptive family. I’d really love a home because I’m

tired of being in a cage. For more info or to adopt me, please call Furever Friends Animal Rescue at 910-383-2100

MID-ATLANTIC GREAT DANE RESCUE LEAGUE

My name is Burley and I'm a 1½-year-old merle male with natural

ears. I love to run and play with my foster (doggy) sisters and brother. I play fetch and keep-away with just about any chew toy! I am potty-trained and will go to the door

when I need to be let out. I know a few basic commands, especially

when motivated with treats. I would do wonderfully in a home where I can play with older children since I sometimes forget that I'm not very small. If you let me curl up with you on the couch or bed I will, but I'm also content

with my own bed. I am crate-trained and do well on a leash. So if you have room in your heart, room in your

home, and a few rubber chew toys (my favorite!), then I'm dog for you. For more info, please contact the NC Chapter Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League by calling Terri at

252-566-8934 or visiting www.magdrl.org.

I’m Betty, a sweet light-brown Schnauzer/Shepherd mix. I weigh just over 20 pounds at 5-months-old. I have always been the first of my siblings to do things: I was the first one

to discover how to use the doggie door! I’m a quick

study and pick up any chal-lenge easily. I am a very sweet, loving girl who thoroughly enjoys getting my belly scratched and playing in the yard

with other dogs. I play well with dogs of all sizes and have shown absolutely no signs of aggression. I’ve not yet had experience with cats or children. Now I’m just waiting for a

loving family to make me a part of their family! If you would like to find out more about me, please go to

www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. There you can fill out an application online and view other adoptable res-cues. If you need one mailed or faxed, call 910-264-8300.

SCHNAUZER RESCUE OF THE CAROLINAS

CAROLINA BORDER COLLIE RESCUE

My name is Bunker! I worked as a goose dog, chasing away Canada

Geese at a local Golf course. I loved it but the manager of the course re-tired, and the new fella doesn’t want

to use me anymore. The nice people who live near the golf course feed me, take me for walks, and keep me cur-

rent at the Vet’s office. I am 3½-years-old, healthy, love people and other dogs. I’ve not met many cats.

A wonderful man from Canine Angels came to visit me. He trains dogs like me to help out wounded veterans. He thought I was such a great dog, he offered to provide

FREE training for me to the people who will take me home. To adopt me, visit www.cbcr.org or call 910-754-5747.

CAROLINA BASSET HOUND RESCUE

Hi, Flash here! I am a great Basset boy! My foster Mom

said that I don't act my age and have a lot of puppyish bounce in my step and I just love to play! I

like young children and just about everyone. She also says that I am absolutely no trouble

at all and am house-trained and sleep all night. I love to snuggle

and give kisses. She also says that I have gorgeous eyes and look like I am wearing white socks. So, if you are

looking for a loving and handsome companion, ask about adopting me ... FLASH! I am currently undergoing heart-worm treatment but if you'd like to meet me, or find out more about me please call 919-708-4247 or visit our

website at www.cbhr.com.

Hi, I am Emmy and I was res-cued from dying of a gunshot

wound. Who in the world would shoot such a sweet girl? I am a very petite girl at 35 pounds and

like my foster Momma says, I am stinking cute! I will gaze into

your eyes and make you love me forever. I am good with

other dogs and house-trained. I also love to go for rides in the car and flirt with everyone at the truck stop! I'd love a

chance to snuggle up to you and make you my own for-ever. I am the sweetest little girl that you will ever meet. If you'd like to adopt me, or find out more about me, please call 919-708-4247 or visit our website at www.cbhr.com.

My name is Corky and I’m a beautiful, sweet and calm boy. I really love being a

"house hound". I am curious, smart, and love people. I get

ing to love treats and toys and gives kisses. All I want to do is please you so I can

get a lot of lovin’. I’m a beautiful white greyhound with a spot of brindle. Very adorable young man, wouldn’t you say? Please contact Barbara at 910-540-9644 for more info on adopting me. You can view other greyhounds

They’ve called me Cutie Pie and it sure is easy to see why! I’m a 1-year-old-old

grey and white Tabby boy who was found living alone under someone’s porch.

Now I’m at the shelter, making pals

with all the other kitties, and waiting for my forever family. I love to curl up in one of the comfortable cat beds here, and you can often find me

sharing my nap time with another feline. I

also love to be petted and held, so please don’t be deterred if I appear a bit timid at first. Just go ahead and start

rubbing me and I’ll quickly melt into a very purry fellow. Oh yes, I’m also neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. If you’re the loving family I’ve been looking for, please call

Pender County Humane Society at 910-259-7022!

I am sponsored by Adair H. Douglass, II. Thank you!

If you like Shih Tzu’s, you’ll like me!

My name is Dixie and I’m a 2 to

3-year-old girl. I was once a breeder dog in a puppy mill, but that sad life is behind me. Now

I’m looking forward to sharing a happy

life with my new family! I weigh ap-

proximately 13 pounds and can be a bit timid and shy, but I warm up

quickly. I am very laid-back and I’ve learned how fun it is to play with toys. I get along very well with my foster brothers and sisters (they’re dogs, too) and I’m working very hard on

my house manners. At the groomer’s shop, I don’t mind having my body taken care of, but I really don’t like them to work on my face. Other than that, I’m a happy-go-lucky girl!

To adopt me, please call NC Rescue League at 910-232-5253 or visit their website at www.ncrl.petfinder.com. I’m

spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention, too!

I am sponsored by Pine Valley Animal Hospital in loving memory of Max Livsey.
