Dashing through the snow…

all the way to new homes! That’s our

Christmas wish this year. Hi, my

name is Belle (A058893) and

I’m the very well-behaved and adorable

Lab mix you’ve seen on the cover of this magazine. At just 1-year of age, I was found as a stray and am now ready

to make the holidays even merrier for my new family. I’m a good girl who sits for treats and

knows other basic commands. I play well with dogs, travel well in a car and can walk on a leash with no trouble. I’d be an affectionate and happy

companion for some very lucky family! Seated in the sleigh beside me are two very

precious male kittens named Hemmi (A059855) and Victory (A059856). They not only know how to drive a sleigh, they also know how to capture hearts with their loveable personalities. At just 8-weeks-old, these babies love to purr, snuggle and kiss. Come visit us! We are at Brunswick County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services

and the phone number is 910-754-8204 for more information or driving directions.

We’d like to thank photographer Dick Parrott for taking our Winter Wonderland photo and we’d like

to thank you for reading our story. Now hop in your car (or sleigh) and come adopt one of us!

My Name is Dandy

(Dandelion) and my foster mom

picked me up from Animal Control in Wayne County. I had been there a few weeks but I’m not sure why no

one wanted me! I am a female,

26 pound, 5 to 6-month-old

Hound mix with beautiful markings, soft fur and floppy

ears. The vet says I will be about 45 pounds when I am full grown. I am loving and playful, love other dogs and all people and all I want to do is be close with you and get a belly rub! I am

heartworm negative, spayed, crate and house-trained and have received all my needed shots. I am looking for a forever home where I will be an inside dog but have a

backyard to play in, too. Email [email protected] or call 919-619-6199 if you are interested in me and

learning more about how to adopt me.

Hello, my name is Vixen. I used to be a reindeer but

Santa changed me into a dog so that I could be the perfect gift for you this year. I have

been well-trained by the guys at Pender Correctional. I was born to chase tennis balls so if

you like to play fetch we are going to get along great. No need to worry about all the

‘unfun’ stuff ‘cause I have al-ready been spayed, had my shots and am even micro-

chipped in case I ever get lost. However, I am the kind of dog

that will stay really close to you. Santa couldn’t gift wrap me so I’ll be waiting for you at Pender. No chocolate in the cookies by the fireplace this year, please. To find out more about adopting me, call

Monica at 910-297-1338 or [email protected]. You can fill out an application at www.montyshome.org.

Written for Vixen by her inmate trainer Angel S.

Merry Christmas to our sponsor Connie, whose gift of this space hopefully will find me

a home for the holiday!

My name is Red and my life was saved with

minutes to spare (maybe I should have been named Lucky). Since then I've been lovingly taken care of by my rescuer. I'm

about 5-years-old and weigh 60 pounds. I'm a loveable tan and white Hound who has never met a stranger. I get along with other dogs and cats, too. When I get excited, I do a little

dance with my front legs and that always makes my foster parents laugh. I love riding shotgun in a

truck, I'm not a barker or digger and I'm trained to an under-ground fence. I'm current on shots, neutered, heartworm

negative and I even had my teeth cleaned! All I really want to do is hang out with you and lay by your feet at night.

Doesn't that sound like a great life? I'm ready, how about you? Please call 910-271-3101 to find out how to meet me and you will see for yourself what a great dog I really am.

I am sponsored by a Duplin County animal lover!

If your heart has been yearning for a puppy, I’ve got great news for

you! Ten puppies were born at Pender

County Humane Soci-ety just 12-weeks ago and I’m the only one left to be adopted!

This means I’m ready to come home with you! I’m a heart-

melter, from the tip of my ears to the top of my toes! My mommy was a Chocolate Lab and I’m a very sweet girl named Nicki. I was born in a foster

home and have known nothing but care and love since I came into the world. I love to be cuddled and kissed and I get along great with other canines. Hurry on over before someone else snatches me up! You’ll be so glad you did.

Call 910-259-7022 and tell them you’re on your way!

Sponsored in memory of Milo, the big black dog who stole our hearts! Mommy and Daddy miss you every day!

Adopt-An-ANGEL

December 2012 www.facebook.com/PawPrintsMagazine 9

►My name is Ralph and I am one of last year's

puppies who was re-turned when I was 9 to

11-months-old. You see, that happens A LOT. I

am good with cats, dogs, kids and love to play,

play, play. I am working on leash-training and

some other basic com-mands. I’m not a cute

puppy anymore and that's a setback, but I am now

full grown and you will know exactly what you are getting if you adopt

me. If you have a lonely dog who needs some

exercise, I’m your boy. I would love another dog to

tumble and play with.

►My name is Candy and I am a real sweet dog. I am a Walker

Hound, I am in perfect health and I have the perfect figure. I am

super sweet and love people, other dogs and cats, too. I am house-trained with very good manners. I was found as a stray and ended up at Animal Control. My owner never

came for me, but his loss is your gain! Charlene Farthing sponsored my adoption fee from Animal Control. Thank you, Charlene, for giving me a chance to find a new home. Hope-

fully that would be with whoever is reading about me right now, hint, hint...

◄My name is Geronimo and I am pretty close to being a purebred Chocolate Labrador. I am ap-proximately 2-years-old and a typical en-ergetic Chocolate Labrador. I do well with cats and kids, but need a slower introduction with dogs. I am neutered, up to date on my vac-cinations and ready for YOU to adopt me!

◄PEACHES UPDATE! I AM ALL

BETTER NOW! Surgeries are over and I am ready to be adopted! Pins

are out and I wanna play! Due

to the nature of my significant health needs that are

now behind me, I can ONLY go to

the bestest of homes. Would that be yours? I am fantastic with other dogs, kids and might even

like a cat. I am so loving and have been through so much pain but I never,

ever complained. I am a homeless yellow Labrador female with Adopt-an-ANGEL. When I was first rescued almost a year ago, I had perfect legs and appeared to be a healthy, happy teenage puppy. Then, 2-months later, I was diag-nosed with chondrodysplasia, a rare genetic deformative

disorder that presented itself from 6 to 8-months of age as I grew. Basically, my legs were growing deformed and I

would have been crippled without intervention. My foster mom noticed that I was limping, and my legs were becom-ing more and more deformed. The vet did x-rays and I was

quickly referred to Dr. Williams. Emergency corrective surgery was done on both legs within 4 days for $800 just before Christmas. They were able to catch one leg before too much damage had occurred, but the other leg needed another surgery for $1200 4 to 6-months later as I com-

pleted my last growth spurt. That was an intensive surgery in which I needed 3 to 5-months of cage rest. I want to

thank everyone who donated to my care and to the ECVR for helping me run and play again. No wheelchair for me!!!

►My name is Johnnie and I am a Walker Hound mix with probably

some Coonhound or Basset Hound given my really long droopy ears and slightly bowed out feet. I am a real sweetheart, and I am very friendly and playful. I am neutered, heart-

worm negative and have all my vacci-nations. I weigh approximately 50 to 60 pounds or so. I am a goofy boy with a really unique woof (likes to bay). I am very gentle and no one has ever seen any aggression from me at all. I am just a typical Hound

dog….great with dogs, kids and cats. I remind my foster family of Droopy (you know, from the cartoon).

Page 10: PawPrints Magazine December 2012

AWESOME FAMILY DOG ALERT!! Why is a loveable, friendly and ador-able dog like me sitting in a kennel without a home?

I’m the kind of boy who makes you smile, laugh and fall in love. My name is Hakon (A059744) and, after just a few

moments with me, you’ll wonder how anyone was ever

able to give me up. I’m very smart and can sit, shake and lay down on com-mand. I love to be kissed and will kiss

you right back! I’d be a great couch dog and I’d probably like to lay in your lap if you’d let me. They think I’m a Collie

mix, around 3-years-old. I’m playful and would have a great time with you in our fenced-in yard. Trips to the

beach or park would be wonderful, too! If you’d like to live with one of the most loveable and adorable dogs EVER,

call Brunswick County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services at 910-754-8204.

I am sponsored by Terry, Patty and Trigger.

Thank you!

This happy face could be what you see in the morning! My

name is Blondie (A059006) and I’m a 10-month-old Terrier mix

who makes hearts melt in three seconds

flat. I am always happy, always

friendly, and my tail never stops

wagging. I have the softest, pink-est belly and I’m quite agreeable to having you

rub it. In fact, I’ll flop over and

show it to you if that’ll make it easier for you. My owner could no longer keep me, but this is good news for you!

YOU can be the lucky one who takes me home. I can al-ready sit on command and am one of the sweetest dogs you’ll ever meet. Please don’t let me live alone for much longer! To adopt me, or for driving directions, please call Brunswick County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services at

910-754-8204.

I am sponsored by Adam's Folly Pet Boarding, Bolivia, NC. Thanks!

◄I look like a cat but I may be part rabbit! You see, I don’t have a long tail, I have a cute powderpuff nubbin that wiggles when I walk. Very bunny-like! I’m Tinkerbell (A060657) and I’m a 2-year-old girl who enjoys meeting all kinds of people. I love everyone! I’ll never say no to head and chest rubs and will purr away in your arms. If you’d like to make memories with me, come adopt me today!

CAT and KITTEN Adoption Fee:

Just $15!

Includes a physical examination, feline leukemia/FIV test, rabies vaccination and spay/neuter surgery.

◄Need a loveable Lap Cat in your life? You’re looking for

me, then! My name is Dade (A060686) and I’m a gorgeous

girl with vibrant orange and white fur. I have a very mellow and calm

personality. When they opened my

cage for my photo, I didn’t even get up, I

just laid back, enjoying all the

attention and rubs they were giving me.

See, nothing pleases me more

than relaxing with humans. Won’t you give me a home?

◄I had fun sitting in this bucket, but I’d rather be sitting in your lap or arms! My name is Wasp (A059730) and I’m an 8-week-old girl kitten. Don’t be put off by my name, I’m sweet as pie and twice as loveable and would never sting anyone! All you’ll want to do is kiss and cuddle me, I’m incredibly adorable! My owner had an operation and couldn’t keep me. Let’s go home!

◄If you’re holding a toy, I sure would like to play with it! I’m Sammy (A061008) and I’m a 6-month-old Tabby boy who loves to explore, sniff and make those around me very happy! I had a great time getting my photo taken because they gave me lots of toys and attention. I used to have a home but my humans developed allergies and couldn’t keep me. I’m such a sweet and loving kitty - please give me the gift of a family!

►Looking for someone who will love and cuddle you? Pick me, my name is Milo (A060801)! My

previous owner was unable to keep me, but she says I’m a perfect little boy who will make

anyone very happy! I’m a 6-month-old darling who

is great with cats and dogs, friendly to children, and I will sleep in your lap any chance I get. I love to play under blankets

and will purr like a motor boat when held in your

arms. Make your dreams come true and adopt me!

►I’m brand new at the shelter! Everyone treats me very nice, but I hope this will be a short

stay. You see, I once belonged to a family but they moved

away and couldn’t take me with them. I’m yearning to be part of a family again! My name is Hurley (A060999) and I’m a 1-year-old boy who enjoys

getting lots of love and attention. Ear, neck and chest rubs are some of my favorite

activities and I also enjoy playing with toys. If you’d like

to share your life with a great cat, come adopt me!

I’m just 5 to 6-months-old and am up to date on shots, spayed, and litterbox-trained. I’m very friendly to other cats and I just love being petted and cuddled.

My name is Zeke and I'm about 7-months-old and ready to get into my own home. I love my foster dad but it

sure would make me happy if I could find my own family. I'm up to

date on shots, I’m heartworm free and on

monthly heartworm prevention, I’m neu-tered, I’m house and crate-trained, and I

love to take long walks and go for rides in the car. If you have a fe-

male dog, then I would love to have a sister to play with. A fenced yard would be the cherry on top. One thing for sure is that I don't like cats. If you will make me part of your family, then I promise to be the best doggie ever.

Cat Tails

◄With a name that

means dark cloud,

Nimbus, you might think I’d be

unhappy and depressed.

That couldn’t be farther from the

truth! I am the friendliest 8-month-old,

male kitty who is white

with brown Tabby spots. I love all other cats, so if you al-ready have one, I would love to be the second.

►Would you

please be my

Romeo? My name is Juliet and I am

looking for my Ro-meo. I

am a long-haired

black and white fe-male with the cutest little spot on my nose. I love to sleep on the bed or curl up on a lap. I don’t mind dogs either! I am only 1-year-old so we can have a long time together.

◄Louie, Louie, Louie, Louie, as

the song goes and I would like to go, go home with you

that is. I am Louie, a 9-month-old, black male. My

favorite thing in the world is to snuggle against your neck. So now with the weather getting cold, you might

think you need a scarf, but all you

really need is me. And since I’m black, I’ll match anything you’re wearing.

▲Hello, we are Tommy and Tito and we are 6-month-old orange brothers who are friendly and outgoing. We are

told that we don’t have a shy bone in our bodies. We love to snuggle, but most of all, we love to help. Whatever you’re doing, we can help! We are interested in every-

thing that goes on around here and we’d love to see what’s happening at your house!

►With a boring name like Gus you

think I’d look like every other boring cat, but wait, wait for it, wait a little

longer… No sir, I am a 19-month-old, very large,

super friendly Sia-mese mix with of course, strikingly

beautiful blue eyes. So if you

want the “Van Gogh” of cats, the best choice would

be me.

►I’d like to be like my namesake

Amelia Earhart and fly right into your home.

And like Ame-lia’s short

hair, I have a short tail. In fact, they tell

me I’m a Manx mix. I’m an 18-month-old female brown Tabby. I love people, but I would really

rather be the only cat.

My name is Missy and I am an adorable pastel Calico kitty cat. I do well with other animals and I am really friendly and sweet. I have been at the shelter over a month now, but it is kitten season so there have been lots of cute kittens to compete with. But you can’t go wrong with an adult cat like me. I won’t climb curtains or knock over knick knacks because I am good as gold

and ever so grateful. If you would like to know more info about me or would like to inquire about the adoption

process, call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557.

I am sponsored by Perry Davis. Thank you!

Hey ya'll. My name is Allona and I am a 1-year-old spayed Walker Hound girl.

Some nice lady found me walking

down the road in the country and I was so skinny and hungry. Lucky for me, she took me home and

now that I have been to the doggy doctor I am all healthy and

ready to find my for-ever home. I love

everyone and every-thing. In fact, I have been living in a home with four other dogs

(big and small) and a cat. I love to snuggle and would love to find a home where I can nap on the couch with my new

human. I am house and crate-trained, spayed, up to date on shots, and heartworm negative and on prevention. Will you

give me a home for the holidays? Please contact 4 Paw LifeSaver Rescue at 252-531-0744 or email

[email protected].

►It’s me again Lucy, a 1-year old fun loving Lab mix who loves everyone! I am a full-grown medium

size girl who is house-trained, crate and leash-

trained, knows basic commands and I have the most beautiful light brown coat. I have been living in a foster home and go to doggie day care so I

have no trouble adapting to new environments.

Basically, I am close to perfect except I need a

home. If you are looking for a smart, fun-loving

female to add to your family, look no further - my foster fam-ily thinks I am very special indeed!

►Hi there, it’s me again, Jed, last month’s cover model still

looking for a home and I don’t understand why. Is it my pre-

mature grey? I’m only 5-years-old. Or my size? Yes, I am

about 65 pounds but oh so gen-tle as can be. Even though I

was mistreated before, (had a collar embedded in my neck when found), I am a trusting, gentle soul who enjoys being

around everyone! I am healthy, neutered, current on all vaccina-

tions and microchipped. I at-tend doggie day care so am used to being around lots of other dogs and do well in a

crate. All I need now is a stable home environment with a loving

family and a fenced yard.

►Hi, my name is Socket and I’m a 4-month-old male Domestic Short-

Hair. A nice lady found me wandering around

with a head wound and brought me to Furever

Friends. The wound has been treated and is heal-ing nicely. I am sweet as

can be, love to be han-dled and be around peo-ple, dogs and some cats. I have had a rough start

of life and sure could use a loving family to take

care of me.

►Hey, look at me, I can stand on two feet! I’m Felix

a 6-month-old Lab mix on the mend from a broken

foot and as you can tell by the picture, doing very well. I love everyone, I’m playful,

I'm crate-trained, I’ve al-ready been neutered, I’m

current on all vaccinations and I love going for walks. P.S. I love Reba (pictured

above) so if you are looking to adopt two dogs, we are

perfect for you!

◄My name is Jethro and I’m a 9-month-old male

Jack Russell Terrier who was found wandering along a busy highway until a nice

lady picked me up and brought me to the great folks at Furever Friends.

After receiving a clean bill of health, I waited for my

former owner to come look-ing for me but no one ever did. So here I am, search-ing for a new home with a family who will see what a

joy I am and give me a safe forever home. I LOVE to play, have lots of energy,

enjoy being around people and other animals, am house-trained, and leash and crate-

trained. I have adjusted well to my foster home environ-ment and schedule and I love using a doggie door. Please schedule an appointment to meet me, I promise you won’t

be disappointed.

◄My name is Reba and I am a real gem of a girl. I am an 18-month-old small Re-triever Mix who only weighs 30 pounds. I love to cuddle with everyone including other dogs. I had surgery to repair a bad hip and am now ready to be adopted. I am current on vacci-nations, crate-trained, and micro-chipped.

Hi I’m Dierks! Are you looking for a

Hound who is ever-so-slightly less height

challenged than most Bassets seem to be?

That has a unique color only found in a Starbucks cup, but rarely in a Basset

companion? Well I’m a handsome Napoleon-complex-free, sweet, young 1 to 2-year-old boy who has a loving

personality! Did I mention there are

many perks to longitu-dinally challenged

ears? Less ear infec-tions and no cleanup after meal time and water time. It

doesn’t get any better than that! As if that wasn’t enough, I’m house-trained, crate-trained, and I enjoy being petted

and getting belly rubs. I mean, who doesn’t? As an added bonus, I play well with others. Act now and all this can be yours! If you’re looking for a Hound who simply has it all, just give me a call! To make me a member of your family, please contact Carolina Basset Hound Rescue at 919-708-4247 or visit our website at www.cbhr.com. Also, we are

extremely short on foster homes! If you have ever thought about fostering, please contact CBHR for more details.

I am sponsored by Dogmom Productions,

Any chock-o-holics reading

this? I can sat-isfy your sweet

tooth! My name is Butch

(A060525) and I’m a Chocolate Lab mix boy with a sweet-as-sugar personality! I’m instant friends with everyone I meet and I al-ways welcome head rubs and

cuddles. I had a great time having my photo taken - I skipped around

the room with toys in my mouth

and tossed them in the air. My tail wagged the entire time and I was even nice enough to sit on command for my

photo. I’m a 1-year-old boy who was found as a stray, but I sure do like people and have been taught some great

skills. I’d be a wonderful family dog - the kind you take on walks or to the beach. I just know we’d have a fun-tastic

future together! To adopt me, call Brunswick County Sher-iff’s Animal Protective Services at 910-754-8204.

I am sponsored by Willetts Horse Farm, Bolivia NC in

loving memory of Maya. No one can ever love you like a rescued pet.

►My name is Crystal (A279633) and I’m an Austra-lian Cattle Dog mix with Red Merle fur. I’m just 1½-years-old and I’ve been spayed and vaccinated. I was brought to Animal Control as a stray and

I’m hoping that I can find a loving family. I’m kind and

loving, my heart is full of joy, I know how to sit on command

and I just want to make friends. Oh, that and be a Lap Dog...if you’ll let me. I

probably weigh around 25 to 30 pounds and I’m curious about life and having new

experiences. Toys make me really, really happy and I act all goofy with joy. Guaranteed to make your smile. Please call the shelter today and tell them you want to love me forever!

◄I’m Odie (A277173) and I’m a 2-year-old Catahoula mix. I know how to sit and

lay down on command and I can play fetch like nobody’s business. I can fetch all day long or I can be happy just sitting near you. I’m polite, gentle, good mannered and learning how to shake and

give High Fives! I was picked up as a stray near Market and 16th Street. I’ve been

neutered and vaccinated so I can be adopted today! If you could love a happy-go-lucky

boy who is eager to please, I hope you’ll give me a chance to show you how great of a companion I can be. ◄My name is Millie

(A280393) and I’m a professional feline

companion with 10-years of experience. I

enjoy humans very much and specialize

in cuddling. I came to the shelter with my

sibling, Belle. We are homeless because our parent passed

away and no one else in the family could keep us. I’m very

calm and laid back, I love being brushed, and I’m extremely

loving. I enjoy being held, I like belly rubs, and I crave being petted. I have

been vaccinated, spayed and declawed. Adopt me today! I’m ready to make you feel special and loved.

►My name is Snoopy (A279532) and I’m a Bea-gle and Jack Russell Ter-rier mix. You know what

that means? I’m all about having fun and exploring.

I’m also super friendly and know how to sit on com-

mand. I’m learning how to lay down on command and

how to walk nicely on a loose leash. I’m already

neutered and vaccinated. I love squeaky toys, I’m

cute, I’m smart and I pray that you’ll be the one who’ll

come save me.

►My name is Belle (A280394) and I’m a

voluptuous 15-year-old princess. My sibling,

Millie, and I came to the shelter after our parent passed away. I never

expected to be an orphan at this age and I deserve

a better life than that. I am a very sweet girl who loves being near you and

getting head rubs. I am spayed, vaccinated,

declawed and ready for a second chance.

◄Move over Channing Tatum! My name is Simba (A279811) and pictures just do not cap-ture how handsome I really am! I’m gorgeous and have rugged good looks that make all the other cats jealous! I have been vaccinated and

neutered, I’m approximately 3-years-old, I like to purr and

make biscuits, I’m super friendly, and I’m tall, dark and

handsome. I love being rubbed and will stand up on

my hind legs to push my head into your hand. If you’d like a super mellow, modest, even-

tempered, purry gentleman in a fur coat...adopt me!

Please Don’t Overlook Me Again! I’d Be a Wonderful Companion!

My name is Rocky and I’m the sweetest little fel-

low on four legs. Just check out my photo - I can

sit on command like no-body’s business! Haven’t you been looking for an

intelligent, handsome boy to enter your life? At just

5-years-old, I’m a 39 pound, tri-color Beagle mix who is already neu-tered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. I play well with other dogs and I’m friendly around

children. I’m also house-trained, crate-trained and I stay in a fenced area with no problems. I used to have a home,

but they simply had no time for a doggie companion. What about you? Would you like to add some joy to your life by adopting me? I’m so affectionate and adorable! Call the New Hanover Humane Society at 910-763-6692 and let’s

get together!

I am sponsored by Levi Donovan. Everybody wins with adoption!

Puppy Power to the Rescue! You’ll never be sad or lonely with me around. And boy, won’t your holidays (and the rest of your life) be much happier with a bouncing baby full of joy? My name is Laney and I’m an 8-week-old Retriever mix girl who is wait-

ing for a home at Sampson County

Animal Control. In fact, there are sev-

eral adorable puppies waiting here for families to come get us. We really hope they hurry, because we are running out of time with every passing second. You see, there are just too many dogs and cats arriving and not enough room for us all. I’m a very sweet puppy and I’d like nothing more than to see

your face at my kennel door! My spay surgery and parvo vaccination are included in my adoption fee. For more

information, please email [email protected] or call 910-592-8493. Tell them you saw me in PawPrints!

◄I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR A HOME SINCE MAY! Please read my

story and come visit me at the shelter!

My name is Pumie and I arrived at the shelter with my mother, Sug. That’s her pictured beside me. Our owner passed away and no one else could

take us in. We are per-fect companions for some very lucky person or fam-

ily and can be adopted together or separately. I’m a 4-year-old Golden

Retriever/Lab mix who is house-trained. I am fine with cats and I played gently with the 3-year-old granddaughter who

would come visit. I’m a sweet, loving girl. Adopt me!

◄I’m a very friendly and fun boy who would make your life a lot happier, if you’d let me! My name is Wolf and I’m a Lab mix, just 10-months-old. Sadly, my owner became homeless and could no longer keep me. I hope my luck will change real soon! I can sit on command (just check out my photo for proof) and I love people. Would you like to meet me? Come on over, I can’t wait!

►If a trio of sleepy,

purry, orange kittens

doesn’t get you in the mood for

adoption, we just don’t

know what will! We are 8-week-old babies who

have lived indoors all our lives with our foster family. We’re now at the shelter waiting for loving homes. We two girls and one boy can be adopted together or separately. We

haven’t yet been named because we think you should have the honors. Come on over and get to know us!

▼I ARRIVED AT THE SHELTER ON MAY 6! Why Has a Loving, Well-Mannered Family

Dog Like Me Been Overlooked? Please Read My Story and Come Meet Me!

I’m a Golden Retriever/Lab mix who once had a loving home, but my owner passed away. It’s very sad because I’m the kind of girl that you only have to spend a few sec-

onds with before realizing that I’m a perfect family compan-ion. My name is Sug (pronounced Shug) and I adore peo-

ple, am fine with cats, and am

already house-trained and leash-trained. I’m very

gentle with children, too.

Speaking of chil-dren, see that dog-

gie beside me? That’s my daugh-ter! We can be

adopted together or separately and would be happy

either way. Won’t you be the one to take me out of the shelter and into a

loving home? Please?

URGENT, URGENT!! This Is My Last Chance!!

I have made so many friends at the

shelter and they just can’t under-stand why I’ve

been overlooked! My name is

Mosely (A004848) and I’m a wonder-

ful, well-trained boy who lost my family when they moved away. I’m an 8-year-old Lab mix who gets along well with other

dogs. I have my rabies vaccination and have tested

negative for heart-worms. And here’s

really great news: A compassionate friend of mine will help my new family pay for my neuter surgery! Isn’t that terrific? So many folks want to help me find a wonderful family - doesn’t that tell you how fantastic I am? I would make you so very happy! This Is My Last Chance!

Why have I been overlooked time and

time again? The shelter volunteers

can’t understand it - I’m so sweet and I

love everyone! I was once well taken care of inside a home, but my owner developed dementia and could no longer look after me. There were no

other relatives to take me in so Animal

Control picked me up and brought me to the shelter. My name is Darling (A004855) because I’m a true sweetheart who gets along with other dogs and all people. They think I’m a Doberman mix and I’m current on my rabies vacci-

nation. I’m very well-trained and will be an excellent com-panion for some lucky person or family. Just think, you

can give me a brand new life - I’m sure my former owner would thank you if she could! For more information or

Hi, my name is Vito and I am a 2-year-old, neutered male who is a mix of Basset Hound

and Lab and Shar-pei. Don't let my

short legs fool you, I may look small but I weigh 50

pounds. I am a mellow kind of guy who likes to hang

out in the yard and bask in the sun. I

like other dogs, but I do best with big-ger dogs. I would-n't mind being the

only dog either and getting all the at-tention. I have

already been to the vet and I am up to date on all my shots and heartworm negative and on prevention. If you want to adopt me please contact 4 Paw LifeSaver Rescue at 4pawlife-

◄We are Freddie and Mac, and we

were left at the gate of Paws Place in early 2008. We are

now about 5-years-old,

45 pounds, up to date on shots

and heartworm negative. We think we would really like to have an inside home. It would be especially nice if we could be adopted together. We've never been apart.

We enjoy going to adoption days and getting to meet new people, but it can be a little scary for us when we hear or see things that we are not familiar with - like the sound of a motorcycle or a siren. We’re just waiting for the right family – won’t you come visit us and see for yourself!

PAW’S PLACE 2013 CALENDAR FOR SALE!

We are proud to offer this calendar as our winter fundraiser. It is available for a $20 donation and features our very own dogs from Paw’s Place.

100% of the proceeds goes to the care of the dogs at our facility. It is available at all of our Meet and

Greets and at Paw’s Place in Boiling Spring Lakes.

We can also take orders online. Please visit www.pawsplace.org to find out how to order or

other locations that have our calendars available in Southport and Wilmington. Thank you!

◄I’m Curly, and I’m a Schnoodle! (That’s half Schnauzer and half Poo-dle). I am 3-years-old and I’m here because my owner was sick and could-n’t take care of me or my brother, Moe. He’s pic-tured on page 32. I am neutered, up to date on all shots and heartworm negative. I am also house-trained! Moe and I can be adopted separately, but we’d like to stay together. We won’t take up much room – each of us is 25 pounds – that’s like one 50 pound dog! Let’s give it a try. Call Paw’s Place and come and visit us!

◄It’s me, Lilly. I know

you’ve seen my picture before.

I’ve been at Paw’s Place for

over a year now, just be-

cause my owner was sick and couldn’t take

care of me. I’m a friendly girl,

very affectionate and playful. I even let them dress me up for adoption days. My favorite thing to do is to sit in a beach chair when someone gets up. Although I’m about 8-years-old, I’m healthy, up to date on shots, spayed and heartworm negative. I’ve got lots of love to give – can I

give it to you??

◄I’m Sammy. I got my name because I

was one of three Lab mix puppies who

arrived on the same day. They both had blue eyes – so they

were Frankie and Dino – you remember – the Rat Pack. I’ve already been neutered and am up to date on shots. I’ll probably be about 50

pounds when grown. But that doesn’t stop me from cud-dling. If I could, I would sit in your lap for a long time. It

would be great to have a human family and a fenced back yard – let’s talk. Stop by Paws Place and visit!

◄My name is Casper and I was taken to the vet

when I arrived. I am up to date on shots but was di-

agnosed with heartworms. I have been on

treatment and will be re-tested soon. I’m a Jack Russell/Corgi mix, about 2–years-old. Be-

cause I grew up with lots of dogs, they think that I would do well in a house that has another similar size dog. I’m shy around people and sometimes act like a tough guy,

but I’m really not. It would be wonderful if someone could give me a chance at a family life. Visit me!

URGENT, URGENT!! My Time Is

Running Out!! This beautiful face shouldn’t be run-ning out of time!

My name is Maverick

(A004575) and I’m a true sweetheart who definitely de-

serves to be part of a loving family. I would bring so

much joy to some-one’s life! Unfortu-

nately, I was adopted recently

but was returned when the new owner’s dog didn’t want to share his home. Now I’m running out of time because

there are just too many dogs arriving at the shelter and not enough room for us all. I’m a gem that definitely shouldn’t be overlooked - I have a great temperament (calm, gentle

and friendly) and I walk well on a leash. I have already received my rabies vaccination and am just 4-years-old. There is a lifetime of wonderful memories ahead to be

made for you and me! Please, please come visit and get to know me. We could fall in love! For more information or

directions to the shelter, call Pender County Animal Control at 910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-279-3196.

I am sponsored in honor of Kathleen M. Langone.

I’m a fun, friendly, eager to

please girl named

Clarissa (A055068!) I was found as a stray in Bruns-

wick County, but someone must have

loved me at one time because I

never meet a stranger

and I know basic commands. I think I’d be a perfect com-panion for some lucky family! At approximately 4-years-

old, I’m a Lab mix who enjoys playing with toys and munching on treats. I ride well in the car and enjoy going for outings with friends. Just imagine it - you and I having

a great time at a dog park, the beach or just walking around the neighborhood! Then we can go back home

and cuddle all night. Would you make my Christmas wish for a family come true? Please come to the shelter and meet me! You’ll see for yourself what a great girl I am.

My name is Buck von Bonn (A005199) and I’m a 2-year-old darling who is leash-trained and ready to play! I was happy to have my photo taken be-cause I met new people. Let me meet you, please!

◄I’m Casanova (A005757) and I have what it takes to make all the ladies fall in love. Men have no resistance against me either. I am just too well versed in the ways of l’amour. I’m a 2-year-old silver Tabby who is a people-pleaser with a capital ‘P’. I love to be held, kissed, cuddled, you name it. I’ll roll over in my cage when I see you, invitingly. Let’s go!

►They tell me I’m a Christmas Miracle and

have named me Miracle (A004869) because of it! I arrived in AUGUST of this year with six new-born puppies. I was in

sad shape - underweight, coughing and with a res-

piratory infection. My new friends had me

treated by a doctor and now I’m in great health!

My puppies were all adopted and I’m ready

for a new home too, just in time for Christmas! I’m a 2-year-old Shepherd mix girl with a loving, grateful heart.

I’m great with all people and dogs. Adopt me!

◄I’VE BEEN AT THE SHELTER SINCE JULY!! Isn’t that just crazy? I’m Abby Sunshine (A004381) and I’m a playful, energetic girl who is ready to be a ray of light in your life. They tell me I’m 2 to 3-years-old and I was found as a stray in Burgaw. I am so happy when I’m out of my cage - I just want to be part of a family and have a fenced-in yard to run and play in. Could you come out and meet me? I’ll be waiting.

►Are there any Cocker Spaniel lovers out there? I

need some compassion, please! My name is Josh

(A005861) and I was found running loose by Animal

Control. My owners were contacted, but they decided they no longer wanted me.

And I’m 13-years-old! I deserve to be loved much

better than that! With some grooming and attention, I’ll

be well on my way to a new life. PLEASE come visit

me or tell all your friends!

◄Hello there, my name is Cobo (A006118)! Some nice folks found me running loose and would have liked to keep me, but their dog didn’t want to share the house. I get along just fine with dogs, though! And I’m a sweetheart to humans, as well. At just 1-year-old, my Christmas wish is to find myself in a warm, loving home really soon. I’m a leash-trained, friendly Lab mix. I think I’m your boy!

I arrived at Paw’s Place last week and my name is

Moe. There are actually two of us – I’m the white Schnoo-dle (part Schnauzer and part

Poodle) and my brother, Curly, is the black one. He’s pictured on page 29. We are 3-years-old. We came here

because our owner is too sick and can’t take care of us any

longer. We are both neu-tered, up to date on all of our shots and heartworm nega-tive. We are used to being

inside and are house-trained. It would be great if

we could be adopted to-gether, but we realize that

may be asking a lot. We are the perfect size – about 25

pounds each – not too big – not too little. What do you say – can you give me (or us) a chance? Call 910-845-7297

for more information.

I am sponsored by State Farm Rob Cutting Agency in memory of Dingo.

My name is Holly and I’m a Hound mix.

One of the first things you notice is that I have one blue eye

and one brown. I was found by a couple on the Interstate in South

Carolina on Christ-mas Eve 2010. I

must’ve been out on my own for a while because strange or loud noises some-times frighten me.

Paw’s Place took me to the vet and had me

spayed. I’m up to date on shots and on heartworm pre-ventative. Even though I am shy around people, I do like to play with other dogs. If they are similar in size, about 55 pounds, that is just great. A home with a fenced yard

would be perfect. Can we talk? For more information, call Paw’s Place at 910-845-7297.

I am sponsored by Marybeth and Elliott Tepper in

loving memory of Scarlet, Charleston, Tripp (a Paws Place furbaby) and Katie.

◄I’m an adorable brown Tabby boy who was cruelly dumped by someone. For-tunately, I found my way to caring hands. I’ve now been neutered and vacci-nated and am ready to find my forever home. While I’m still a little bit scared, I am quickly learning to enjoy a sure meal and a warm, safe bed. I’m playing nicely with the other kittens, too. My name is Nonamy. Won’t you take me home?

Pender County Humane Society thanks the Miss Avis Davis Fund for a very generous donation. It came at a time

when it was greatly needed. Woof, Woof!

►Hello, PawPrints readers! My name is

Tyler. I’m 16-weeks-old and I love to be petted and played with. I will show my appreciation

for your attention by serenading you with

hours of purring from my rather loud motor.

It’s music to a cat lover’s ears! I have

received my first round of shots and am neu-

tered. Now I’m ready to bring you lots of love!

►I’m a sweetheart and my name is Raven!

I hope my big, brown eyes are drawing you

under my spell. I’d really love to be part of your

family! I’m a 1-year-old Lab/Shepherd mix who is living at the shelter with my sister, Lady. She’s pictured on this page,

too. I am friendly and fun and I have a great time playing in my wading pool on hot days. I’m

also neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm pre-

vention. Sis and I can be adopted separately, so come on out and get to know us!

◄Everything about me is soft, from my coloring to my purr. My name is Tansy and I’m a cuddler and a snuggler, that’s for sure! I am around 16-weeks-old and have re-ceived my first round of kitten vaccinations. I’m also spayed and great in the litterbox. I adore play-ing with other felines and am happy to be with all humans. Now I’m ready to head home with you!

Spot

◄My name is Watson and I must say it’s quite a mystery why I haven’t been adopted. I could use someone like Sherlock Holmes to figure it out! I’m a pure white boy with the most fabulous, loveable personality you could ever desire in a feline. I’m very mellow - you can pick me up and cuddle me anytime you like! I get along great with other cats and enjoy toys. I’ll make you so very happy - that’s a promise!

◄I’m staring deeply into your eyes! How can

you resist? My name is Lady and I’m a 1-year-old Labrador/Shepherd mix girl. I’m living at the

shelter with my sister Raven, who is also

pictured on this page. We are full of life and very affectionate and

we love to splash around in our wading

pools. We have always been together, but we can be adopted sepa-rately. I am already

spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm preven-

tion. Do yourself a favor and take some time to visit!

Need a buddy? My name is Baby and I’d love to be your new family member! I’m a 3-year-old, spayed female Lab mix who

gets along with everyone: men,

women and children. I also play well with other dogs. I came

from Animal Control, but I appear to be house-trained, as I

don’t want to answer nature’s call in my

kennel. I always try to wait for someone to let me out first.

I’m such a good girl! I’m friendly, playful and enjoy going for walks. Please

come visit me! If you need directions, or more information, call my friends at SOAR at 910-457-6340. I can’t wait to

are awesome companions and I would

definitely prove that to you with no trouble at all. I am playful, loving

and good with people and other dogs. Cats intrigue me and inspire me to chase, but I don’t want to hurt them - just play. I’ve been to the veterinarian’s office and am already

spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. All that’s missing from my life at this point is you! Would you

◄Need someone a little bit sassy in your life? How about me, Sassy! I’m a very

sweet and loving girl who was raised by a super foster mom. She gave me milk from a bottle so

I grew quite accustomed to being held and kissed by

humans. I also lived with two big dogs and several other

kittens so I’m used to a large family! Take me home with you today!

◄Hi there! My name is Sophie and I’m a pretty 6-year-old

girl with vivid orange and white fur. I’m also

spayed, up to date on shots and declawed.

I would do best in a single cat household and I’m nervous around young kids, so I’d also be happiest in a home with-out tiny children. I am very loving and cuddly, though, and would make a wonderful lap cat to snuggle up to on cold nights. I am being fostered and anyone can contact my SOAR foster mom, Lisa, at 732-546-2080. Call today!

▲I’m a gorgeous orange Tabby girl named Nicole. At a young 6-months of age, I’m a little bit shy but I enjoy

being petted. Won’t someone give me a chance? I had brothers and sisters here with me but they’ve all been

adopted. Now it’s my turn to be loved for the rest of my life. Call SOAR today and let’s get to know each other!

▲Looking for something a little saucy? Here you go, my name is Saucy! I’m a 4-month-old girl kitten with

polydactyl paws. They look like oven mitts! I’m a bottlefed baby, too, which means I’m extra sweet. Come meet me!

►Want to cuddle with a

fluffy, loveable girl? How

about one with extra toes? My name is

Sissy and I’m a 4-month-old

kitten with front paws

that look like oven mitts. I was a bottle-fed baby, which means that my foster mom held me close while giving me milk. All that cuddling has

turned me into a very affectionate girl who is quite comfort-able and secure around humans. I also lived with two big dogs and other kittens while being fostered. Do yourself a

big favor and adopt me! You’ll be so happy you did.

►I’m simply stunning! My name is Chaz and I am a white Pit Bull mix with one blue eye and one brown eye. I’m very loveable and

friendly so I’d say my inner being is just as

beautiful as my exterior! I am good with every-one: men, women,

dogs, cats and kids. I know my basic com-

mands and am great on a leash. I also LOVE to play ball! At just 1-year of age, I’m neutered, up

to date on shots and on heartworm prevention. Let’s go!

It’s me, Laurel. I arrived at

Paw’s Place with several other dogs

from a hoarding

situation. The vets think that

I am about 5-years-old and a Jack

Russell/Chihuahua mix. I had

heartworms, but the vet treated me and I’m all better now. I’m also spayed. It would really be nice if I could

be adopted into a home that has another small dog. That way, I probably won’t be nervous when I’m left alone because I’ll have company. If you give me a

chance, I know that I will appreciate all the love you have to offer. Come visit me at Paw’s Place and see if we are

a match. You can call my friends at 910-845-7297.

I am sponsored by State Farm Rob Cutting Agency in memory of Molly.

My name is special –

Petra. Paw’s Place named me in honor of Peter, who was one of the older

canine resi-dents. He had just died the

morning I arrived. I don’t even want to think what life would have been like if

some nice lady hadn’t brought me and my siblings to Paw’s Place. I’m a 4-month-old Lab mix girl who is nice and

healthy, spayed and up to date on shots. Everyone com-ments about how calm my entire litter is. You can see by my

photo that I like stuffed animals. I like to cuddle, too, and could be a couch potato if you let me. I’ll probably be

around 50 pounds when I grow up. So come out to Paw’s Place and visit – I’m the pick of the litter! For more informa-

tion, call 910-845-7297.

◄I’m Rosie! I’m a 35 pound Pug/

Chow mix and, at just 4-years-old,

I’m a smart, friendly girl who would be a great

agility dog. I adore children and

am friendly to adult humans as well! I do have

issues with some dogs, but I’m great

with cats. I’m also spayed, vac-

cinated and on heartworm preven-

tion. If you’d like to meet me, please call Sunburst today. You and I could be the perfect match, so let’s get started!

◄Hi, I’m Chico! I’m a 2 to 3-year-old mixed

breed boy who is sweet and goofy. I appear to do well with other dogs and am presently getting my

workup at the vet. Besides the fact that I am missing half an ear, I’m also heartworm positive.

Donations for my care can be made directly to the vet’s office, Rocky Point Animal Hospital, at 910-602-6633, or through the

Sunburst website at www.sunburstfoundationofwilmington.org. Thank you!

We also have several canines with extensive medical needs. Any donations toward their care is greatly appreciated, either via the website or

◄My name is Brad Pitt because I’m a hand-some blonde looking for love. At just 1 to

2-years-old, I’ve got a lifetime of happiness to share. I have had en-tropian repair done to my eyes and just fin-ished my heartworm

treatment! I’m feeling great and am ready for

my forever home. I seem to do well with most other dogs and will be starting some

obedience training very soon. Wouldn’t you love to live with a superstar like me? I’ll make you so happy!

►Hello, my name is Hero! I was once a

shy boy but once my medical issues were taken care of

(which included heartworm disease and decayed teeth)

I have become a human’s “best

friend”! I’m a doc-ile, gentle boy who gets along well with

other dogs, even the ones who want

to be boss. I love to run and play in the yard and I’m not at

all pushy. I’m around 2-years-old and it’s believed that I’m a Golden/Chow mix. I’m house-

trained, crate-trained, up to date on vaccinations, on heartworm prevention and I will come with a microchip

and Smart ID tag from Best Friends. Wouldn’t you like to meet me? Call 910-622-0011 or visit the Sunburst

website at www.sunburstfoundationofwilmington.org.

◄Hi, my name is Truen! I’m a sweet, funny, smart canine who needs an owner with experience with the bully breed. I am presently working with a trainer and am doing well. I am very happy

playing with docile female dogs and

would love to be part of a permanent new

family! I do have spe-cial needs due to

chronic lung disease. For more information about that, or to fill out an adoption

Friends of Felines wants to thank all of you for your generous support throughout the year. We are on our way to another record-breaking year. So far, 869 cats have been spayed/neutered and vaccinated and 157 kittens have been rescued/fostered.

We are low on funds and in order for us to continue our mission we need your support. Each altered cat costs us $35. Please find it in your hearts to make a tax-deductible donation to help these abandoned and orphaned cats live happier and healthier lives.

All donations are tax deductible and all money goes directly to the cats.

If you are ready to be greeted every day by

a goofy, fun-loving companion then I’m

your boy! My name is Adam and I’m a 3 to 4-year-old golden-

colored Labrador Re-triever weighing

around 60 pounds. I’m a happy pup, but I had a sad start to life. I spent my first three years in a concrete

pen with a giant Schnauzer with little to no human interac-tion. When my owner

finally got tired of us, he dumped us in a shelter. Luckily, I am now in a foster home and I’m ready for my second lease on life! I was timid at first, having never been exposed to a home environment, but I very quickly warmed up to the idea of my own family. I am still timid initially, but I look to other dogs for guidance so it is best I go to a home with another dog or with someone who will spend a lot of time with me around other dogs like doggy parks, day care, etc. I am

neutered, micro-chipped, crate and house-trained, and I’m great with men, women, kids and especially other dogs.

So if you want an all-around great companion, please visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. There you can fill out an application online and view other adoptable rescues.

Hello! My name is Jules and I’ve got quite a story to tell! Back in July of this year, I arrived at an animal shelter, preg-

nant and alone. I was so scared. I

ended up giving birth to six beautiful ba-bies, but sadly one of them died at the shelter. We were

soon all running out of time, but we were then rescued by a human angel when my babies were just three days old. My kittens were pretty

much hand-raised and now I am looking for a home! I am a beautiful medium-haired grey girl. I am very easy-going. In fact, you don't really even know I am around because I am so quiet. Open up a can of kitty food, though, and I meow like crazy!! I am a sweetie, but little kids scare me a bit...I probably should go to a home with older children/adults. I am good in my litterbox, already spayed and up to date on

shots. The vet thinks I am only about 1-year-old. How about giving me a chance? To adopt me, please call Cat Adoption

Team at 910-792-9014.

I am sponsored by Katherine Sweeney in loving memory of Colonel, Brillo, Inkie, Crystal, Cassie and Mikey.

My name is Saphira and I am a really nice girl. I

was originally adopted from the county shelter. Unfortunately, I was recently re-turned after 4-

years because my owners moved to a new place with-out a fence. I do

well with other dogs and kids, but am a little too curi-

ous for a cat. I have been working

on my manners with a volunteer

and I can sit on command and walk loosely on a leash. I am spayed, up to date on my shots and

heartworm negative. My adoption fee at Animal Con-trol was sponsored by Edwin Keagy. Thank you,

known as “The Walker Boys”. We’ve been at Pender

County Humane Society since we were puppies and we can’t understand why!

We’re terrific fellows, just ask anybody. And boy, are we handsome! We are now 1-year-old and love to be

cuddled and kissed. As for our health, we are neutered,

vaccinated and on heart-worm prevention. We get

along with everyone we meet - men, women and children - and we play well with other

dogs. When will we have the chance to belong to a family? You don’t have to adopt both of us - if we go to separate, loving homes, we’ll be very

happy. Lemon Walker Hounds are great dogs and we’re no exception! Come

see that for yourself at the shelter. Call 910-259-7022 and arrange a meeting with us!

Hi there! My name is Roxy

and I’m a female Corgi

mix, just 2-years-old

and 25 pounds. I was once a

stray who was hit by a car. My leg got a nasty break that required

surgery. After three long

months, I have made a com-

plete recovery. Hurray!!! I am the sweetest, gentlest girl and I’ve endured a lot without the slightest com-plaint. Now that I can run around again, I am very energetic and would love to chase a few cats (or

squirrels or bunnies) if given the chance. I have my quiet times and I enjoy curling up in my crate for a

snooze. I am a genuine treasure of a dog - spayed, on heartworm prevention, current on vaccinations

and house-trained, too! If you’d love to make me a member of your family, please call the Pender

County Humane Society at 910-259-7022.

PENDER ENDANGERED ANIMAL RESCUE

Hi, I’m Ghirardelli, just like the chocolate bar! I’m a Shar Pei mix who needs a loving home. I am very healthy and I have the most incredible-looking face. See my

smile...wouldn't I be a great addition to your home and family Christmas photo? I am up to date on all shots,

neutered and currently on heart-worm preventative. I get along with other dogs and am active. I’m still a

youngster so my shelter friends would like for me to go to a home

where I can exercise a lot. Please, it’s getting close to the holiday season and I'd love to spend it with a family. Email

[email protected] or call 910-675-0867 today!!

PHOENIX LANDING FOUNDATION

My name is Pete R. Bird and I’m a 20-something-year-old Double Yellow Head Amazon. I am absolutely gor-

geous and have a huge outgoing per-sonality to match. I enjoy spending a great deal of time on my cage top play gym. I also have an outdoor cage so that I can get plenty of natural sunlight

which is critical for my long term health. I enjoy my pellets and fresh

foods including fruits and veggies! To adopt or foster me or another of the many parrots of all spe-cies who are awaiting homes, contact Phoenix Landing at

www.phoenixlanding.org (click on the link for adoption/foster), email us at [email protected] or call 866-749-5634. As always, please check our website regularly

ONSLOW COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER

Just when I thought I had most of life’s problems all ironed out,

along comes a big wrinkle in my life and I’ve found myself incar-cerated at the Animal Shelter

and have no idea why. Anyway, here I am, in a real mess. Oh,

it’s not like the people here aren’t loving and kind because they

are, but it’s not the same as hav-ing your very own family to love up on you. By the way,

my name is Sasha (A-062159) and I’m a 1½-year-old girl. I’m a large fawn Boxer and oh so pretty! I loved to play

with my human family and I was a great protector for them. Don't let me sit here any longer at Onslow County

Animal Shelter, adopt me and let me love you! The shelter is located at 244 Georgetown Road in Jacksonville

and you may call 910-455-0182 for more info.

COLUMBUS HUMANE SOCIETY

My name is Phantom and I am happy and strong and healthy,

although I surely did not start out that way. When I was rescued, I

was bright pink and hairless due to mange. Then I came down with

parvo. Of course we were already worried because of my fragile state

but then my parvo was a mild case. My luck had begun to

change! The isolation was the hardest part because what I wanted was to play and cavort with the other dogs. I am a social girl but I had to wait and wait. Now that I am better, I am able to demonstrate my loving, playful side. I am affec-tionate with the other dogs and love to play with toys. If you already have a dog, I would be a great companion and side-

kick. I am also good with cats, although sometimes their toys are so appealing that I need to steal them. I am a Lab and Hound mix, weigh about 30 pounds, and will not be a

big dog. To adopt or foster me, email [email protected] or call 910-619-3015. I would like to spend Christmas with a

family all my own.

CAROLINA PET RESCUE

Hey there! I'm Albert, a most handsome little fel-low. My baby blues are my best feature, oh, and my friendly, playful per-sonality! I am a young-

ster, but already neutered and definitely ready for my

forever home. I am lo-cated in Durham, NC, and

need to go to an indoor home. You may also check me out at www.cpr-nc.org or call 910-471-7854 for more informa-

tion on how to adopt me.

4 PAW LIFESAVER RESCUE

Hi, my name is Kyra and I am a 2-year-old blue Ameri-can Pit Bull Terrier. I am a very sweet girl who is look-ing for a home to call my own. I love kids and am

very gentle with them, and I do well with other dogs and

cats, too. I am house-trained, I’m good in the car and I have been to the vet where I was spayed and vaccinated. The doctor

said I have heartworms so my rescue has been treating me for them. If you have any questions about me, please call

252-531-0744 or email [email protected].

COALITION HUMANE TREATMENT OF ANIMALS

My name is Goldie. I'm a beauti-ful light orange Tabby with beauti-ful green eyes. My foster parents say I'm very loveable and no trou-ble at all but they have other kit-ties and I'd love to have my own place. I'm an indoor gal, I get

along with other nice cats, gentle kids and I'm OK with dogs if

they're outside. I'm spayed and in great health. Visit www.petfinder.com/petdetail/17825741

PAWSITIVE PARTNERS PRISON PROGRAM

Just in time for your holiday cele-brations! My name is Martini and my buddy Rossi and I have just finished our 12-weeks of training

at New Hanover Correctional Center. We have our best man-

ners all polished to attend all your family events. I am a 2-year-old

female Yellow Lab with the sweet-est personality you’ll ever meet.

I’m great with kids and other pets and love all humans. Please give

me a chance! I’ve never had a family of my own and would really be a very good girl for you. To find out more, contact Monica at [email protected] or 910-297-1338. Bet-

ter yet, fill out an application at www.montyshome.org.

ONSLOW PARTNERS FOR ANIMAL WELFARE

My name is Sweet Pea and I am an adorable girl of only

9-months. I weigh 40 pounds and my foster mom rescued me from the cruel fate of spending my life in a cage consistently

being bred by a backyard breeder. I am spayed, heart-worm negative and up to date

on all shots. I am house-trained, crate-trained and walk well on a harness. I just love to go for walks or car rides and I fetch the ball. I also play well

with other dogs my size. Please give me a chance to be home for Christmas. Please

call Louria at 910-330-5238.

OPERATION TOPCAT

My name is Missy and I was rescued from a

terrible fate. Now I just need my own forever safe loving home. I'm

about a year old, a pretty gray girl with

white and very sweet. I don't mind if you want

to hold me as I like attention. I'm good

with kids. Dogs not so much. I kind of ignore the dog in my foster home. He's

okay from afar. I love to play. Balls that make noise and feather toys are my favorite. I'm good with other cats, too.

Won't you consider letting me come live with you? For info, email [email protected] or call 910-200-0612.

PET FRIENDS OF DUPLIN COUNTY

I'm Louie and my sister, Lucy, is the gorgeous all black dog on the

right. We were rescued at about 8-weeks-old on a busy highway next to

our mother who had been hit by a car. We

were successfully treated for demodectic mange and now we're

healthy and happy and ready for our forever homes. We're 6-months-old, crate-trained, vaccinated and have been

fixed. We weigh around 35 pounds so we shouldn't get too much bigger. Lucy is a mellow, sweet girl and I'm a little

more active and curious. We have been together since day one and are attached to each other, but I think it would be OK if we got adopted separately. Somehow my jaw was broken and it healed a little crooked, but it doesn't bother me a bit. We love to play and are used to being around others dogs and kids. Could you please give us a new home? If the answer is YES, please call 910-271-3101.

My name is Jaxxon and I am just a big ol’ puppy,

a 70 pound 10-month-old puppy to be exact. I am a Pit Bull and Dober-

man mix, and the only one of my siblings who doesn't look like a

Doberman, so that makes me special. I am a fun loving guy who loves to play and when I get tired, I love to snug-gle. My foster mom keeps telling me I am not a lap dog but really I am! In fact, I can kinda fit my butt in your lap. I love other dogs because I like to play with them, and I love anyone who wants to take me for a walk or throw a

toy. I do really well in the car and go for trips with my fos-ter mom all the time. I would really like a home with a big fenced in yard that I can run and play in! I have been to the vet and I'm neutered, up to date on shots, and heart-worm negative and on prevention. I would really like a

home for the holidays, if you want to take me home, please contact 4 Paw LifeSaver Rescue at 252-531-0744

or email [email protected].

If I look a little sad to you, it’s because after eight years of

living with a fam-ily, I find myself alone. My name

is Rosco (A005937) and I’m a handsome Boxer mix with a sweet and loving

personality. Sadly, my family could no longer take care of me and had to bring

me to Animal Control. It’s a

shame because I’m a true people-

pleaser and want nothing more than to be close to hu-mans. I was house-trained when I arrived on October 19, and I also walk well on a leash. I was a bit underweight

then, but I’m putting on weight now and doing well. I know how to sit on command and I don’t jump up in people’s faces. I’m a big boy who might even have a little Great Dane mixed in. I’d prefer to be the only canine in the

household and am really looking forward to being back in the arms of a loving family. Won’t you come meet me?

For more information or directions to the shelter, call Pen-der County Animal Control at 910-259-1349 or Officer

Clewis at 910-279-3196.

I am sponsored by Netop and Ruby. Thank you!

Hi there! I’m Scottie, a 1½-year-old boy who

was taken in by the Sunburst Foundation when my time was up at a local shelter. I’m thought to be a Jack

Russell mix and I weigh just 21 pounds. I’m also neutered, up to date on vaccina-tions and on heart-

worm prevention. I am shy and somewhat submissive but I’m

gaining confidence every day. I love all other animals and, of course, my people. I enjoy playing in the yard with a few other canines, and am doing well with my crate-training and house-training. Unfortunately, during my medical workup, I was discovered to have Diabetes Insipidus. This is a dis-

ease of the adrenal glands and there is no cure, but there is treatment. I take medication and I’m functioning well now like any happy, active young dog. I am searching for that

special family who will be able to provide a committed home for me. I am incredibly sweet and endearing to all who meet me. I am so quiet and gentle. Any donations

toward my medical bill would be greatly appreciated either via the website, www.sunburstfoundationofwilmington.org, or directly to the vet office, Rocky Point Animal Hospital, at 910-602-6633 during business hours. For adoption infor-mation, email Sunburst at [email protected]

or call 910-622-0011.

I am sponsored in loving memory of Hank Harrington.

SCHNAUZER RESCUE OF THE CAROLINAS CAROLINA BASSET HOUND RESCUE

Hi, I’m Fireball. My chestnut hair reminds you of that vintage Nauga-hyde valise you spied at a quaint little antique store on your drive

through New England last summer. My velvet ears - a settee at the inn where you stayed. You realize that the fabric of your life is somehow incomplete, missing one crucial element. My existence in Paw-Prints during the time of your

search for a best friend is no mere coincidence. Take no thought of the morrow and contact CBHR today To make me a member of your family please call 919-708-4247 or

visit our website at www.cbhr.com. Also, we are extremely short on foster homes! If you have ever thought about fos-

tering, please contact CBHR for more details.

I’m Schultz, an 8-year-old sil-ver mini-Schnauzer who was retired from a breeder. I’m a bit timid of new surroundings

and loud noises but I am learn-ing from my other foster broth-ers and sisters that I can trust humans. They are also teach-ing me how to run and play and

of course how to play ball! I am house-trained and ready for a new home with someone who understands my need

for approval, which helps me gain confidence. I must go to a home with another dog and a fenced yard. Visit

www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org to fill out an adop-tion application. You can also check out others who are waiting for their forever home! If you need an application

emailed or faxed, call 781-799-4272.

CAROLINA POODLE RESCUE

Hello! We’re Simon and Dee Dee! We were adopted in 2008 and

then, due to some serious health issues, our owner could no longer care for us. I’m Simon, a minia-ture white Poodle, and Dee Dee is a black toy

Poodle. We are a sweet, loving pair who are look-ing for a lap, some snug-

gle time and an occa-sional treat. We are both crate-trained, house-trained, and leash-trained. If you have a special place in your heart and

home for both of us, visit www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete an application. If you have any questions,

please call Debi at 864-489-3559.

SHAR-PEI RESCUE OF VIRGINIA

My name is London. I’m a 1-year-old female Shar-Pei and Beagle mix. I’m currently in a

foster home and having a great time playing with the dogs here. I have not had any accidents in the house, I sleep nicely in my

crate and I’m spayed and vaccinated. I am so sweet and

loving and very comfortable around people and other dogs. I do like zooming all over

the place with the other dogs - out the dog door to the front yard, giant loops around the front yard, back thru the dog door, thru the house and out the back dog door and loops

around the back yard. For more info or to fill out an application, visit the Shar-Pei Rescue of Virginia website at www.sharpeirescueofva.org. You may call 609-494-0020

or email [email protected] for more info.

GERMAN SHEPHERD RESCUE & ADOPTIONS

I’m Molly, a young 1 to 2-year-old German Shepherd mix. I’m the

perfect family dog size at 40 pounds. I am good with other dogs and children. I am house-trained and know all basic commands.

Sometimes I am shy around new people, but I’m also very lovey and tail waggy. I’ve had lots of social

experience and it is recommended that I go to a home with at least one other companion animal. In short,

I’m a trained, laid back girl who loves walks and cannot wait to find

a family. To adopt me, please contact German Shepherd Rescue and Adoptions by calling Kate at 910-616-9210.

CAROLINA BOXER RESCUE

My name is Roscoe and I’m looking for my forever home! I am crate-trained and know sit and down. I do very well on a leash and I will sleep in

a crate at night. I am still learning that food will come every day and that toys will always be there for me to

play with. I sometimes want to guard these things with

other dogs around but, with the help of my foster mom and my foster fur siblings, I’m learning to be more chill about these things! For more information on adopting me or to

help pay for my heartworm treatment, call 910-799-5638 or visit www.carolinaboxerrescue.org.

Give yourself the gift of love by adopting me! My name is Shae and I’m a

4-month-old Tortoiseshell kitten. Surely you can tell

how sweet I am by the way I’m laying in this volunteer’s arms! I’m

such a darling girl, and I play well with other cats.

I think I would be the perfect match for you and here’s why - while you’re at work (or shopping) I’m content to be left alone to look out the window and

entertain myself, but when you’re home I’ll cuddle with you and I’ll even sleep in the bed with you if it’s allowed. I’ve gotten along just fine with the children I’ve met, but I’ve never been introduced to a dog. I’m already spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Don’t I sound wonderful? I really hope you’ll

adopt me! For more information, please call Cat Adoption Team at 910-792-9014.

I am sponsored in appreciation of everyone who has

Hi everyone! If you are looking for a playful, intelligent, and en-ergetic reindeer, er... dog, then

I’m your guy. My name is Dasher and I definitely live up to my namesake. I was rescued by my very own Santa Claus, Saint

Barb and her elves, over at Monty’s Home where they really do make dreams come true. At about 50 pounds and a year or

two old, I would make the perfect companion for an adventurous young 'un or active family. Cur-rently, I’m in the elves’ workshop

getting ready to make some-body’s holiday dreams come true. I already know all of my obedience commands, am crate-trained, potty-trained, neu-tered, up to date on shots and I’ve even been microchipped. All I need now is YOU! To find out how to meet me or one of the other reindeer, contact Monica at 910-297-1338 or

[email protected]. You can also fill out an applica-tion at www.montyshome.org. Written for Dasher by his

inmate trainer David S.

A big holiday thank you to Connie from Dog Speak for the gift of this space for me!

Are you looking for a companion to take on outings to the beach or park? Pick me! I’m Dixie and I love doing stuff like that! I’m a playful girl, but I still know my commands. In fact, I’m sitting on command in my photo. (Just between you and me, I was waiting for them to throw me a tennis ball!) I’m a young girl, 4-years of age, and I’m a total sweetheart. There’s not a mean bone in my body. I’m house-trained, love affection and can’t get enough hugs or kisses. I’m a Terrier mix who is great with children and other dogs (but no cats, please.) I hope after reading this that you can see I’d be an excellent companion, ready-made to move on in with you and start making happy memories! For adoption information, please call SOAR at 910-457-6340. They’ll be happy to give you driv-

ing directions so that you can hop in the car and come meet me!
