BEIJING
An amazing
experience
that you will
never forget!
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOWBasic information that would be important if you were here.
Beijing is based in North East China on the North Eastcoast of Asia.
Beijing is the capital of China which borders 14
different countries as well as the Pacific Ocean. Those
countries include Afghanistan, Bhutan, Burma, India,
Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Mongolia, Nepal, North Korea,
Pakistan, Russia Tajikistan, and Vietnam.
On February 26th 2010 Beijings population exceeded 22
million people.
The climate has a variety of different types of weather.
Their spring is mid March- Mid May which is mild but
sometimes dust storms come. July and August has heavyrains even though summer is mid May- mid September,
which is hot and humid. Beijings A\autumn is mid September- mid November which has mild days
and chilly nights. Then the long winter is mid November- Mid March.
The country got its flag in 1949. The four small stars represent groups of workers while the large star
represents the leadership of the communist party.
The State Emblem stands for the gate of heavenly peace in Beijing framed by grains of rice and
wheat that stands for agriculture and a cogwheel that represents industry.
Everyone in China can speak Chinese. Although there are different types of Chinese. The ones found
most common in Beijing are Mandarin and Putonghua; but most people speak Putonghua.
Chinas national color is red. Its used for luck. So is the number eight. The number that is extremely
unlucky is the number 4. This is because when you say the character, it sounds like the word death.

How people have changed the landscape of Beijing.
Beijing used to have little population and very little tourists.
The people havent changed the landscape as much as they
changed the things on the landscape. For example they rebuild
some of the 2,300 year old great wall to get more tourists to
come to Beijing. Before, people couldnt take a full- on tour of
that area of the great wall. Like I said, the landscape haschanged by itself but humans changed the things on the land to
get more tourists to the area.
Now that Chinas economy is growing, they are getting more
and more money to repair and change. From March 2007- April
2009 a big fixing of the Forbidden City was taking place. Theywere repainting the entrance. Now MANY more tourists go to
that area. The landscape by itself has made a small change but
the people put things in it to change the area, either for war or
for peace.

EFFECTS IN THE PAST AND
PRESENT
Beijing has grown enormously since
half a million years ago. It used to be
small villages in areas surrounded by
mountains. Of course this is quite a
while ago. Some people lived in
limestone caves as deep as the widthof an elephant while others lived in
small huts made out of mud, and
sticks which makes a house sturdy
and about 1 ! ft. thick. With square
boulders on top of each other. Each
house had a hole in the roof for when
the people are cooking something
over a fire; the smoke would go right
out of the roof instead of floating
around in the houses. To carry food
and objects, the people could not
weave their own baskets. They made
clay pots which are much heavier
than baskets. They would mostly feast
on seeds, fruits and nuts. During the
cold, harsh winters the fire would be
the main part of childrens and
womans lives. Then during the
summer, everyone would be out and
about. Everyone had their own
religions, own freedom, and own
lives; but worked together to make
each others lives better and easier.
Sharing is caring.
Then everything changed later on
when the city became more
developed. In my opinion it became
better and more sophisticated. They
started electing emperors and people
began having bigger and better houses
with bicycles. Then out of nowhere amilitary officer elected himself
emperor because he thought he could
do it. He began letting in all these
foreigners into China. He thought it
was good for the country. The officer
(also known as the emperor) let the
Indians pour into China. They
brought their religions (Buddhism)
and cultures with them. That began to
give China ideas for new religions.
Chinas main religion wasConfucianism. As a result, the city of
Beijing is now a Buddhism (from the
Indians), Taoism (a religion made
from Buddhism), and Confucianism
(which is straight native to China).
Now the city of Beijing has many
different religions. Thanks to the
people. PEOPLE POWER!

Things not to miss!!
1. The forbidden city- is an amazing piece of ancient Chinese
architecture with an amazing story of history to go with it.
2. The superb wall of China is another one of the top tourist
attractions also because of its architecture and amazing
history, but that is only half of it. The wall was built over2,000 years ago and about 6,300km long and was still
unfinished.
3. Summer Palace is over 850 years old and it was built for the
emperors mothers 60th birthday. Another piece of Chinese
history.
4. The temple of heaven is known throughout China as the
Altar of heaven but can also be referred to as the temple of
heaven and earth. It is the temple that moved the capital
from Nanjing to Beijing in its 18th year. It was used for
offering sacrifices to heaven and earth.
5. Lama temple was built for the same reason that the pyramidswere built. When the emperor died the people placed his
coffin in the temple. Its another place where history took
place.
6. The CCTV building is an eye-popping example of modern
architecture at its best. Its used for news casting throughout
China.

POPULATION AND
RECOURSESThe city of Beijing was established
473B.C 221B.C. It was located in
NE Asia, China. At precisely 39o 55
minutes north latitude and 116o 25
minutes east longitude. 25.9% of
China is over 3,000 ft. and 18,000
km of coastline. People came to
Beijing in the past because they had
food and smaller mountains that
were easy to live in because theyhad caves about half the size of the
average apartment today. Today
people come to Beijing for work.
Many people work in major
factories which produce chemicals,
electronic equipment, farm
machinery, iron, steel and textiles.
Farmers who live outside the big
cities grow things like cotton, fruit,
grain and veggies. They raise
animals like ducks pigs and fish.
Coal factories provide 75% of
Beijings energy comes from coal.
Oil and natural gas also provide
energy. A project to build the
worlds biggest dam in progress.
Beijing has a population of 22
million+ in 2010. The majority of
the people are Han Chinese. Major
industries or businesses include the
media with the main company being
CCTV (which is television),
the press for the evening
news, people daily andChina Daily (which are
magazines). The reason
that people come to
Beijing is more for the
opportunity of a job,
food, and water.
Many people moved
to Beijing for business.
Many businesses grow
there because people know
that there is good business there sothey either changed companies or
the company moved them there. I
feel that they come for a better life
and better business.
95% of the Beijing population is
Han Chinese. They say the Han
people rule China because in the
earlier days everybody was fighting
and the Han brought everybody
together. Now Beijing is one of the
most recognizable cities in the
world. They are recognizable for
their amazing architecture and
historical monuments. Everyone
has a chance to life. If you move
your business to Beijing then you
will become more popular
throughout the world because many
countries trade with China. This
way, you can make a bigger profit.
Persuasive piece:
Beijing is a busy city with
people always moving about. Itslike every person is a bee on the
search for the perfect flower. Now
Beijing is one of the most
recognizable cities in the world.
They are recognizable for their
amazing architecture and historical
monuments. Especially Everyone
has their own religions, own
freedom, and own lives; but worked
together to make each others lives
better and easier. People treat eachother with respect and loyalty. Now
that Chinas economy is booming,
they are getting more and more
money that is flowing into the
country. Its a way to provide more
jobs for people and a way to provide
people a better life.
POPULATION AND RECOURSESWhat do we HAVE and TRADE?
WHAT DO PEOPLE HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THEIR TIME IN BEIJING?When I was in Beijing, I got the most amazing feeling when I walked onto the Great Wall at night. It was likebeing in a big room where I could do what ever I wanted to. It made me feel cozy and comfortable with the dimlight surrounding me. When I first walked on the Great Wall I felt like I had been taken back in time; especially
when you admire the stones that made very interesting Chinese history.

Population and Resources
The City of Hong Kong
Hong Kong was established in year 1841. HongKong is located on the southeastern coast of China.
Most of the Hong Kong is mountainous except for
the lowland areas in the north of the New Territories.
Hong Kong used to be part of China. But now, Hong
Kong is a different country.
In the past, people came to Hong Kong because
of the tradition. The tradition is from the late 1970s,
a lot of refugees from Vietnam came to Hong Kong
for journey and war.In Hong Kong, people came for
the jobs too. People can work for businessman, part-time job, fishing, educating, and other jobs. Some
people also came for better life or studying abroad for
success.
The population of Hong Kong in 2004 was
7,049,000. The major nationalities represented are
Philippines, Thai, Japanese, Indonesian, Indian and
Chinese. Some people visit or live in Hong Kong for
the resources because Hong Kong is part of China
and China has a lot of resources. The major
industries and businesses today include agriculture,
fishing, manufacturing, constructing, business service, restaurants and other jobs.
Today, people choose to live in Hong Kong. Due
to my research, people live in Hong Kong for many
reasons such as earning money (working as hard as a
bee), new life, new jobs, resources and etc. Hong
Kong has lots of opportunities and chances.
Therefore, Hong Kong is now a country that can
make people feel welcome and be helpful to people.

Impact one the Past to Present!Hong Kong used to be a normal country/city like other countries. The
traditional language was Cantonese but majority of Hong Kong people
used Mandarin. There were a lot of traditions like living on the Boat for the
Refugees, Bun Festival, and Dragon Boat Festival etc. Hong Kong used to
trade things with other countries and earned what they wanted.
" The context is in 1839, there was a DEAL between China andBritain " and the deal was The Opium War. The Opium War is countrytrading rights and illegal opium trade. As soon as the deal was done, Britain
had a war with China, which brought Britain to control Hong Kong
because at that time, Hong Kong was part of China. Also Britain wanted
more land so they took part of controlling Hong Kong. The cause is all of these
situations made Britain to take over Hong Kong including Kowloon and
Stonecutters land for about 99 years.!! The effect is since Britain ruled Hong Kong; obviously, some rules orlaws have been changed. Hong Kong has weathered a lot of natural diseases asmuch as the money that rich people have. Hong Kong had an economy
decrease, which led to deaths of almost 300 people including the natural
diseases. After the control of Britain, Hong Kong was as free as pigs.
How have Humans Changed theLandscape
These pictures show how people have
changed the landscape of Hong Kong. Before in
the year 80s, Hong Kong had not much vehicles,
and the decoration was not enough to make the
cinema look more fascinating. The picture in the
past looks old and this street has only a little bit of
stores.
Then around the year 2000, humans changed
the landscape by reconstructing the buildings andaround the cinema, the road was as crowded as it
could be. They did this because to make people
come to Hong Kong by making the buildings
more advanced and fancier. Today, because of
this change, the city of Hong Kong is now like
more improved and looks improved a lot than
before and this picture has a lot of stores.

Memories in Hong KongJohn:
I went to Hong Kong Disney Land with my family. I really wanted to ride the roller coaster
but I couldnt. Because first of all, my brother has acrophobia and my mom doesnt like riding
those scary stuff. Only my dad and I can ride those rides. But unfortunately, my dad couldnt
make the ride. Plus we have to have someone riding together for safety. I didnt have any
companion so I just ate hat dogs in Disney Land.
Sun Joo:
I went to Hong Kong for the choir concert and I had extremely good time in Hong Kong. I
could enjoy the beauty of the view, the malls and the foods in Hong Kong. The prices of the thing
that are in the markets are really cheap and right for all of us. Hong Kong people are really king
and friendly. If I ask how should I go to go this place and they will take you to that place even if itslike 20 minutes and then go back to where they came from. You should visit Hong Kong and feel the
kindness.

HISTORY
Singapore was founded in 1819 by Sir Thomas
Stamford Raffles. In 1826 it became a Britishsettlement. And by 1869 the island was ruled by the
British and had at least 100,000 people living on the
island. The British made the country completely their
own, Building structure and houses of their own.
Anything local or cultural to the island was destroyed,
including cultural buildings and schools. The local
citizens had to work as slaves and workers for the
British. In 1867 Singapore became a crown colony
under British colonial rule.Eventually, the British left due to social and
governmental problems and some Chinese groups
started to immigrate to Singapore. This happened
during the overthrow of the Qing Dynasty, a man
named Sun Yat-Sen founded a branch in Singapore
where Chinese, seeking safety, could immigrate.
Eventually some Chinese ended up staying in
Singapore and the population grew massively.
Singapore started to take in some Chinese culture.
Over the years Singapore had other foreigners visit
the island, but then World War II hit and the British
came back to Singapore to battle the Japanese. The
British commander surrendered and the soldiers were
sent to prison. 25,000 local citizens were killed by the
Japanese.
Many years later a group was formed called the PAP
(peoples action party). It was lead by a man named
Lee Kuan Yew. He was a Chinese man born in
Singapore and wanted a new culture that was a mergeof Malays and the Chinese. But there were many
conflicts on the issue of which country Singapore
should belong to. But then in 1965, Singapore was
expelled from Malaysia and became an
independent country. And Lee Kuan Yew becamethe first prime minister. And because the Chinese had
immigrated to Singapore, thats how the Singaporean
culture was formed. The country has developed a
wealthy clean and wonderful lifestyle.

CHANGES TO THE LANDSCAPE
Orchard Road
Now!
Singapores Landscapechanges
The landscape of Singapore haschanged very much, with new
buildings, hotels, theme parks,
malls, houses and even
subways. People change the
landscape anywhere to make
money, shelter, and sometimes
its used to decrease the amount
of personal
transportation, or tosolve a problem with
the landscape. In
Singapore an example
of a changed
landscape would be
Orchard road. Orchard
road used to be a long
avenue of fruit,
vegetable and spiceplantations and
orchards with horse
pulled bullock
carts pulling
loads of the
fruits and
spices.
The landscape really started to
change there and in Singapore, when lots of buildings went up.
They started putting up houses,
buildings, hotels and even a few
mansions later on. All this really
started to take place in the late
1800s and early 1900s.

Basic Info
Singapore was established in 1819 by Sir
Thomas Stamford Raffles. It was located on theMalaysian peninsula. It was a trading port for
fruit and spices for the Europeans and then later
on it became a British settlement. People came to
Singapore at the time because it was a nice
tropical paradise and also for its trading port, but
British explorers settled there for the nice
tropical weather and if anyone on the ship had
scurvy or a sea sickness it was a good place to
stop to regain their health and strength.People come to Singapore today, not for its hot
tropical weather because the weather there isnt
tropical anymore. People go there today because
it is a wealthy, nice and wonderful environment
and lifestyle. Singapores streets are completely
clean and the airport in Singapore is a port to
anywhere in the world you can go anywhere in
the world from the airport.
Singapores population is rising but right now
its at 4,553,009 citizens; major nationalities
represented there are Chinese, Malay and Indian.
The industrial part of Singapore is very
interesting, most big industries in Singapore are
businesses that were started in the country itself,
like the Night safari and the Singapore zoo, they
are two of the wealthiest industries in Singapore,
but worldwide industries in Singapore include
HSBC, Panasonic and Singapore airlines.
People choose to live in Singapore today for thewealthy and clean lifestyle that you can have in

Then everything changed when the British took control over Singapore. They controlled

for goods were high and there were a lot of strikes.! In 1965, Singapore became independent. Then the British finally left in 1971. It is now astable and wealthy place in Asia. Singapore has one of the worlds busiest ports. Ships from

POPULATION AND RESOURCES
The City of Rome was established in
753 BC. But Rome was built in 270
A.D. It was located on the north south
of Italy, which is based in Europe.
Mountains surround it and it is by the
sea. Rome also had an island and a
city on it. Rome is a great place to live
in and visit.
In the past people came to Rome to
find a better life. There were lots of
jobs; so unemployed people came to
find a job like Chef of a restaurant,
working at a clothing store, being a
seamstress, making goods, or selling
anything at the marketplace, or
working with natural recourse such
as wood, clean water, stone, cement,
land and brick. There was a bettereducation in Rome at the time. For
people who lived in Rome never ran
out of food and there was always
water around. Some resources in
Rome are water, mountains, fish,
rivers and lakes, stone and paint.
Rome is one of the best places if you
need to get a job.
Today people come to Rome because
there are still signs of a better life.
Like now there are a lot more jobs still
unemployed people come for jobs such
as working at airports, becoming the
chef, being an actress or actor. People
also come to Rome because there are
landmarks and people get money off
of them by selling tickets or selling
things at landmarks. Some peoplecome because there is still a lot of
water and food and the marketplace is
a big hit. People just come to Rome
and enjoy it so much they stay and
live in Rome. People just love living in
Rome because its a start of a better
life.
The population of Rome in 2005 is
2.6 million. Some nationalities inRome are Jewish, German, French,
and Italians live there. This means
some people come for family reasons.
Most people that live in Rome are
Italians because Rome started with all
Italians; then came other people from
other countries. Most of the people
that live in Rome lived in Europe. The
population of Rome has increased
since 2005 to 2,756,916 now and it is
still rising.
Rome doesnt have any major
industries or businesses today. Rome
has always had small individuals
shops around the city. Some of the
shops are bakeries, clothes stores,
and future stores. Rome needs a
change, Rome needs your big business
to come and earn money and bring
Romes population higher. Rome
doesnt have any big shops or
business so move your big business
here, you will get a bigger profit and
become more popular.

Past to presentAncient Rome used to be one of the
most popular cities. Although Rome
was popular, there was never a
permanent leader because there were
murders that killed a leader more
then once. Rome was split up in
wards because the popularity was so
height that they needed groups. Now
Rome is whole, like a loaf of bread, not
touched. Rome also used to be
counted in its on walls for security
that people had to stay in their own
area of the city. Ancient Rome was a
popular and busy city.
The context Is Rome started bringing
other tribes in. One of the tides was
the Etruscans. All the visitors were
under Roman supervision to protect
their city if something goes wrong.
The cause is Roman control over a
tribe called Carthaginians who was
also a height power got out of control
that started war. Rome made a wrong
chose that made conflict that started
war.
As a result, a flame of fire
burned down much of Rome, as war
broke out. The result of that, many
died and many buildings got
destroyed. Now this has created
landmarks like the coliseum and
more. Now this is a city of romanceand shopping. Move your companies
here your get more and wealthier
then you either have.
People have changed Rome in the past by building the Coliseum. In
70 AD Vespasian the empire forced slaves to build the Coliseum. He
did this because he wanted entertainment in his city. Before this
change the city was plan and dual. People changed the landscape by
creating the Coliseum.
This picture is a trail how people
changed the landscape.
The empire build the
Coliseum .Before the land was
flat; nothing on it so the empire
built an entertainment center on
it for the happiness of this the
people. The building started in
approximately 72-80 AD. So it took about 12 years to make. What
was its use? They used it for gladiators to fight until injured or
death. They also put lions Vs
gladiator, till death.
Now it is a tourist
attraction. So shops have
popped up around it like
flowers. The shop owners can
make a better living of the
tourist. Other things that arehappening because of the
Coliseum are people stay at
hotels to see the Coliseum, so
companies get money from it.

THE PAST AND PRESENT OF
LONDON
London is a city made of brick, marble,
wood and blood. Through the alleyways of
south Kensington to the busy streets of West
Minister, London is full of wonder and mystery.
The past of London has been a valuable asset
to English culture and pride.
WW2 kicked of in 1939 when an evil
leader named Adolf Hitler invaded Poland in a
bloody campaign. This caused England and is
allies to declare war on the Germans. But the
war didnt reach London until 1941 during an
extensive bombing campaign spanning 3 years
and the British called it the blitz after the
German campaign called blitzkrieg. The
bombing of the major cities in England cause a
death toll (soldiers on the battlefield too) to
reach 360,000 British lives lost In WW2
440,000 less than WW1. At the end of the war
England had more trouble than they thought;
all the empire was collapsing under its feet! So
what they did was let the countries (India, New
Zealand, Australia, Canada etc.) have their
independence and so the empire was turned in
to the commonwealth. (Like the EU.)
The effect of the war caused England to
lose a lot of its wealth and power over its
empire but another well known fact about
England was that it was full of old buildings
and small roads and not many of them
survived the war unfortunately and paved the
way for new projects and buildings to rise from
the ashes of WW2 and also a very well known
battleship called the HMS Belfast (named afterwhere it was built) that saw battle in the
Mediterranean, Africa, France and Korea.

Miami (Mai ahmee) was founded in 1895 when Henry M Flagler built a railroad thatoffered transportation from other major cities to Miami. That was when thepopulation started to rise so Miami became an official city and received acity charter. It is located on the Southeast coast of Florida at the mouth ofthe Miami River. The reason people migrated to Miami in the past is because Miami hadamazing weather and great cropland. It also had lots water and lots of landspace. It was as dull as a world with no people. In the past people weremigrating to Miami to escape poverty. There are many job options you canpick from such as, farmer, chef, environmentalist, restaurant worker, andthere are many companies that are willing to give people opportunities. There are so many jobs up for grabs that you wont know what to pick! Also, immigrants usually get paid more in Miami then in their home country. Whenpeople immigrated they knew that Miami would be very safe, have lots offreedom, and people would have been able to have their human rights. Now, people go to Miami because EVERYONE is talking about how Miamihas a high advanced level of education, opera, and entertainment. Otherthings you can enjoy in Miami today include: art galleries, theaters, libraries, and dance companies. Overall, Miami is a very nice place to livein.
The Miami community is formed by 2,253,362 people most of which areSpanish, Cuban, Haitian, British, German, American, and Italian.! of thepeople are African Americans. Most people there have adapted to aspecific religion. Some religions adapted in Miami are Christianity, Jewish,Islam, and many more. There are lots of companies and businesses that takeplace in Miami. Miami manufactures plants, clothes, metal, furniture, printedmaterials and transportation equipment. There are also two localnewspapers, The Miami Herald (English) and Diario LasAmericas (Spanish). People choose to live in Miami because there is a lotof culture, jobs and opportunities to have a better life. By better life I amtalking about people being able to live in a healthier environment, earnmore money for their families, and live a more luxurious life. There are also
lots of places to have fun such as beaches and clubs. Miami is chosen bypeople of any age because Miami is full of recreation and it can be a veryfun place to live. Therefore, Miami is an amazing place to live and/or visit so come and opena branch of your company here!

We all know Miami asthe center ofattention, the bestshopping spot, and thegreatest destination butno one really knowshow it all started. Before all the peoplestarted to go to Miamithere was absolutelynothing, just thegorgeous plain landand the clear water ofMiamis blue seas.Miami used to be aspeaceful as thewaterfalls of Brazil. Then, the Indiansarrived. The Indianslived in Miamisterritories for a longtime because it hadamazing vegetationand it was very easy togrow food. Food grewso fast that it felt likeyou would never run outof it. Back then, the
plainness of Miami wasperfect for the Indians.
Then other peoplestarted to come becausethey found out aboutMiamis abilities to growfood and its wonderful, warm weather. In 1896,Julia D Turtle was
convinced that Miamiwas so terrificallywonderful so morepeople deserved to beable to go there and
enjoy theparadise. Theonly problemwas that there
was no way to get toMiami unless you
sailed for monthsand most people
didnt want to do that.So she met up withHenry M Flagler, one of
the only railroadbuilders in Miami andshe explained that inMiami there were only1,500 people and it wassuch an amazing placethat needed to attractmore people. So theystarted to plan onbuilding a railroad to
the other major cities sopeople could gettransported to Miami. Afew months later, therailroad was built.
Suddenly, more andmore people werecoming to Miami.
The population quicklysprung up to 30,000
people and by 1920,110,000 people called
Miami their home.People just keptcoming, and comingand coming so by1950 there werealready 250,000people living there. Then lots of buildings
and houses started togrow there and evenmore people wouldchoose Miami astheir favoritedestination.Miamis populationhas risen because ofone simple railroadthat was built in 1896
and look whereMiami is now. Miamiis one of the toptourist destinationsnot to mention that itis also the placeEVERYONE shops at.
Lots of businesses havestarted there and it is apopular money making
city. Dont forgetMiamis extraordinarybeaches where thewater is as sparkly ascrystals and the sunshines like diamonds. Soas you can see, Miami isthe perfect place to starta business because of itsamazing tourism andpopularity. So if you area company owner whowants to open a newbranch, come to Miami!

HOW HAVE PEOPLECHANGED THELANDSCAPE??
When the U.S.A was fighting in
World War II in 1941, Miami was
used as the training center for the U.S
military. The military was using the
hotels as military barracks so that all
the millions of people who were
fighting in the war could have a safeplace to stay. After the war ended,
the service personnel settled in
Miamis peaceful land. By 1950,
Miami already had 250,000 people
officially living in the city. Thats when
things started getting rebuilt, rNow,
you can see that there are no more
destroyed buildings. Everything is
new and modern. People had to
change the landscape so that it could
suit peoples needs and so that they
could prepare for the future. Because
of that change of landscape in the
1940s, Miami is an amazing tourist
destination and one of the most
expensive cities. All the new
technology gets to Miami at great
prices and in impeccable time. If thepeople hadnt made that change in
the landscape, Miami wouldnt be the
amazing city it is now and it would
not have had such a great economy,
past, present and probably future.
Airport In Miami Before The War
Miami NOW!!!
When walking into Miami, you can
already smell the fresh air surrounding
you and the peaceful sounds of the
trees swaying in the breezy wind.
Before the Indians came to Miami, it
was very plain yet gorgeous. Miami
was as peaceful as the gorgeous
waterfalls in Brazil and as beautiful as
a garden full of bright, sparkly flowers.
The Miami community is formed by
2,253,362 people most of which are
Spanish, Cuban, Haitian, British,
German, American, and Italian. Miami
is full of culture so people from all over
the world can come and feel like at
home. Miami served as a very
important place in the past. The U.S.A
used Miami as a military training center
back when World War II was ongoing
and there were thousands of people
taking cover in Miami. The hotels wereused as army barracks so the people
who were in the war had a place to
stay. Miami is the wonders of wonders
and the beauty of beauty. Come see it
for yourself!

RIO DE JANEIROWhat did You say?
I remember it well; one minuteyou could feel the rush of excitementgo through your body and the next
minute everything is very peaceful asif you were floating on a cloud.
The view up there was amazing, full
of color, bright green trees, and thedeep blue sparkling water againstthe white sandy beaches. I neverthought there would be anything so
calm and pleasant. When yousmell and breathe in that fresh air,the only thing you desire is just tolive in that moment forever. Theonly sound is the rush of the wind
against your face and the sound ofsilk floating against the pull ofgravity.
! Sweet mango, juicypineapple, pulpy oranges,
and more delicious fruits you
will seek to find Rio de
Janeiro. On, January 1st,
1502 was the day the
Portuguese explorers were ina search for different and the
best of the best resources
they could find such as the
sweetest sugar, or the dark
and smooth wood, or it
couldve been the juicy and
sweet fruits. IN Rio, even
more before the explorers
came; there use to be a ton ofhumongous trees that was as
tall as the Eiffel Tower in
PARIS, France. But now a
days, people work extremely
hard and some will actually
not stop until its the work is
finished. The top two jobs
they do are building and
constructing and farming.
One of the places that use to
be downtown of Rio, is
called Parca Maua. This
place use to be very polluted
and such. Now, there are
fewer buildings so that there
wont very much traffic.Come and enjoy this
incredible city yourself! This
is a opportunity you will not
be able to have anywhere
else.
Do You Really Know Rio?Rio de Janeiro is the city
Country is Brazil
Its located in southeastern part of
Brazil in South America

the second largest city in Brazil
In Rio de Janeiro, the population was
5,850,000 people in 2004. The people
mostly speaks Portuguese but also speak
some English
The climate is very different compared
to most countries people think of. The
coolest months are June to August (68
Fahrenheit) and the hottest months are
December to March (climate can reach
up to 108 Fahrenheit). The raining
season is from October to March and
sometimes, the rainfall can reach up to
43 inches!
Most people in Rio de Janeiro are
Catholics
Two of the biggest holidays are New
Years and Carnival. On New Years, 2.5
million people gather at Copacabana
Beach to watch fireworks and celebrate
New Years. Carnival is a celebration of
Roman Catholics. They usually have a
huge parade.

competitive match between two of Rio de Janeiros best teams. People say that it was an epic and
amazing game.
Second, if you would like the earthy feel then Tijuca National Park/Mountains is the perfect place.
There you can enjoy a calm beautiful hike. Or if you would prefer, you can visit the national park
and learn about the interesting history behind the place.
And the last place is a humongous statue called Cristo de Redeemer. Its located on Corcovado
Mountain. This remarkable statue is ninety-eight feet high and weighs 1,145 tons! The purpose ofthis statue was originally to celebrate the centennial of Brazils independence.
People and Resources!Rio de Janeiro, located on the southeastern part down by the coast of
Brazil, was established in 1565. This exciting city borders the deep
blue Atlantic Ocean, beautiful Argentina, Bolivia and even more
beautiful and amazing other countries that also have theyre
interesting and different people. The population of Rio de Janeiro inthe year 2004 was around 5,850,000 people. Most nationalities are
Brazilian, European, Spanish and some Americans. People there are
kind, hard working, entertaining and exciting!
When people first went there, theyre desire was to live a better life.
Also, they had the sweetest fruit of all fruits and the warm shining sun
with a little breeze was like a trip to Paradise Island. Since they were
gratefully given the sweet fruit and other resources such as the most
delicate, dark smooth wood,
the people were able to start a trading business. Now, people
like to visit this place because of the warm weather, all year
long, the fresh air and some to be in more nature. The touristhere are coming almost everyday to see the different cultures
there are in this beautiful world.
For the people who live there, theyre jobs are mostly farming
and construction. The farmers love it here because the soil is
both well fertilized and moist. The recourses they usually grow
are delicious fruits! Now, the people who construct usually
build houses. They work really hard and most get paid very
well.
In conclusion, Rio de Janeiro has amazing land for growing and hard working people. I can unsure
you that Rio de Janeiro will give opportunities that most cities dont have.

Past to Present!
Before Rio de Janeiro
was a city, it was just some land
near by Guandaro Bay. The
Tupi-speaking Tamie and
Tememio Native Americans
lived a simple life. The land
there was perfect. For both
living and some farming.
Until everything
changed when they came.
They was the Portuguese
explorers. The Portuguese
explorers were coming in
search for some resources, such
as sweet sugar and fresh real
wood, to sell.
It was January 1st
, 1502when the Portuguese explorers
had arrived. It was near the
edge of the southeastern part
of Brazil. Mistaking the
Guandaro Bay as a river; since
the bay/river was never
named, they figured they
would name it themselves.
Many years have pasted
and now everything has
changed. One reason the city
of Rio de Janeiro was named
after the river was because they
renamed the bay and thought
that Rio de Janeiro was a
perfect name for the city near
by. In English, Rio de Janeiro
means River of January.
All in all, the life and
culture has changed in many
ways. The city of Rio de
Janeiro is now a amazing andbeautiful place that involves so
much fun and culture.
Someday I hope I will be able
to go to Rio de Janeiro.

How Have People ChangedLandscape?
Downtown of Rio de Janeiro, there was a traffic jammedplace called Praca Maua in1920. Before, as you can see, there were more roads andcars, and people. Since then,
there had been a changewhere people reduced roadsand buildings. This happenedbecause it looked morecrowed and too muchpopulation. The landscapehas changed with moreapartments, houses, and jobs.
Now, you can also see thatthere is only one road insteadof there being an interstate.People did this because therewas just too much going on inone area and needed to bechanged. This picture wastaken around 2003-2005. Soinstead of keeping so many
buildings, people took somebuildings out of the area.Today, because of this, Rio deJaneiro in now much cleaner.

The country of Korea has such a confusing
history. Japan kept trying to take over South
Korea, and they actually succeeded, even
when South Korea fought back. But if we go
back to the B.Cs you will see that many
countries tried to take over Korea, and Koreahad to fight back to regain the country. For
example, the old China tried to take over
Korea, the Japanese tried to take over, and it
really was hard for Korea because Korea was
right in between the 2 countries-Japan and
China. But in conclusion, Korea took back the
land, and became an independent country,
and set Seoul as their capital.
There are varieties of opportunities or
resources in Seoul. For instance, if you are
majoring in Chemicals, textiles, technology,
Iron and Steel, or if you are good with cars,
you can be a vehicle assembler, etc. You may
also be involved in a telecommunication
service, or a printing and paper company.
There are lots of jobs in stored for you. Also,
you may choose to be a farmer, taxi driver,
subway workers, businessmen, and you also
could have part-time job.
Back to the Basics
YOU KNOW THAT SEOUL WAS A POOR
COUNTRY BEFORE? AFTER THE JAPANESE RULED
OVER SOUTH KOREA, SEOUL REMAINED A POOR
COUNTRY (THIS IS A PICTURE FROM THE YEAR
1969.) THE STREETS OF SEOUL WERE REALLY
POOR, AND ONLY THE RICH COULD AFFORD
CARS. PEOPLE ONLY USED BUSES, BECAUSE THEY
WERE CHEAP. THAT MEANS ONLY SOME HOUSES
HAD COMPUTERS OR TELEVISIONS. THAT ALSO
MEANS PEOPLE DIDNT REALLY KNOW ABOUT
THE OUTSIDE WORLD WHICH COULD AFFECT
THE PEOPLE.
The Han River
From 1969, people started to grow trees, and
the government decided to build roads, and
highways. Also famous companies such as Nike,
Adidas, Prada, Gucci, LG, Samsung etc came in,
and Koreas population grew. Therefore, people
decided to build condominiums, and buildings.
All people have Televisions even if they are
really poor. Also, every house usually has
computers. It is rare to find people without
computers or televisions. In conclusion, Seoul
became a developed city and it became easier for
people to live.

to do if you are a outdoor person. It is
especially fun when you

Impacts of the Past to
the Present
Seoul used to be a very, very poor city. Even poorer
than Afghanistan! But everything changed when othercountries like Japan, China, and Russia wanted to take over
South Korea. The context is that South Koreas economy
was so poor like a beggar on the street, so they couldnt
defend themselves even if they wanted to. In other words,
Korea was defenseless against these mighty countries.
The cause is that Japan, China, and Russia fought
over Korea, and at the end, Japan defeated China and
Russia, and gained control over South Korea.
After 35 years of ruling, Japan surrendered
to South Korea, and so South Korea gained
independence. The President of South Korea,
Park Chung-Hee, helped in making the
economy rapidly grew. The effect is that
President Park Chung-Hee tried to improve
South Korea, and built all the buildings, the
highways. I think that this president was the
best president among all the presidents thatSouth Korea had, because President Park
Chung-Hee wasnt selfish. He was willing to
give all he had to make the country better.
Also, South Koreas technology is rapidly growing and soon
will be more developed than Japan.
Koreas economy was so poor, that many other countries
targeted South Korea. After the battle of China, Japan, andRussia, Japan took over South Korea. But as Japan
South Korea used to be so poor, because of the 2 wars- Japan war, and
the korean war. but now, Seouls technology is rapidly growing.

As soon as you take your first
step from the airplane to the
land of Seoul, you will feel the
difference from the atmosphere
around you. Seoul used to be a
very, very poor city. Even poorer
than Afghanistan! But now you
will be able see the difference by
the luxurious shopping malls, tothe classiest restaurants. Some
major businesses in Seoul are
Electricity companies,
Gas, water works,
manufacturing industries,
wholesale retail,
construction,
transportation, real-
estate, business services,
Finance and insurance
companies and lots
more. And if your
company is a minor
company, you have no
trouble because you will
be able to have a really
easy time to find a place
to set your office up. If
your company is areally big
company,
the easier
you will get an office, set up a

might want to have for your
company. From 1969, people
started to grow trees, and the

famous companies such as Nike,

! Sydney. What an extraordinary place to live in.Sydney is located in the southeast coast of Australia, in Asia
pacific. The land is unbelievably large, but all the population
lives in the main cities. Sydney itself has a population of over
4.4 million! If youre planning for a trip to Sydney or to
any part of AUSTRALIA, be sure to know one thing. Its
summer during Christmas, and winter during June~July, so
pack up accordingly. The average temperature for a year is
between 7-13 degrees Celsius, so its not like THAT hot- but
just a bit humid.
You dont need to worry about communication, because the
majority of people speak English; however, about 20% of the
people speak Chinese, Italian, Greek, or Arabic at home. So,does that mean that not a lot of people are Christian? No, the
official religion of the Australian people is Christianity. The
Anglican and Roman Catholic church has the most members.
Theres a special tradition going in Australia called
Australia day, where the people celebrate the past, present
and future of the Oceania. Parades and celebrations are held
that day. Some holidays that are held in Australia are:
Australia day Jan 26
Boxing day Dec 26
Anzac Day April 25
Queenss birthday- second Monday in June.
There are millions of landmarks to enjoy- such as the Sydney
harbor, which stretches 20 km, Taronga zoo that has some
