THE WORSHIP OF GOD June 27, 2021
Fifth Sunday after Pentecost
Welcome, Announcements & Opening Prayer
Hymn of Praise “Standing On The Promises” R. Kelso Carter, 1886
Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
through eternal ages let his praises ring;
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing, standing on the promises of God.
Refrain: Standing, standing, standing on the promises of God my Savior;
Standing, standing, I’m standing on the promises of God.
Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
Bound to him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword, standing on the promises of God.
Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
Listening every moment to the Spirit’s call,
Resting in my Savior as my all in all, standing on the promises of God.
Affirmation of Faith
I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in
Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead,
and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and
sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall
come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy
catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the
resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was
in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen! Amen!
Prayer / The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy
will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and
forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead
us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and
the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Hymn of Dedication “I Love To Tell The Story” Katherine Hankey, 1868
I love to tell the story of unseen things above, of Jesus and his glory,
of Jesus and his love. I love to tell the story, because I know ‘tis true;
it satisfies my longings as nothing else will do.
Refrain: I love to tell the story, ‘twill be my theme in glory,
to tell the old, old story of Jesus and his love.
I love to tell the story, for those who know if best seem hungering and thirsting to
hear it like the rest. And when, in scenes of glory, I sing the new, new song,
‘twill be the old, old story that I have loved so long.

Hymn Of Invitation “There’s Something About That Name” Gloria & William Gaither , 1970
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus! There’s just something about that name!
Master, Savior, Jesus! Like the fragrance after the rain.
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus! Let all heaven and earth proclaim:
Kings and kingdoms will all pass away, but there’s something about that name!

Scripture Reading
John 12: 9-11
9 When the great crowd of the Jews learned that he was there, they came not only be-
cause of Jesus but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. 10 So the
chief priests planned to put Lazarus to death as well, 11 since it was on account of him
that many of the Jews were deserting and were believing in Jesus.
Matthew 27:50-53 50 Then Jesus cried again with a loud voice and breathed his last.[r] 51 At that moment
the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, and
the rocks were split. 52 The tombs also were opened, and many bodies of the saints
who had fallen asleep were raised. 53 After his resurrection they came out of the
tombs and entered the holy city and appeared to many.

“Homeland” Presented by the Chancel Choir and Orchestra
Our Homeland — this is the place where we pledge the same flag, protect and defend the same Constitution, breathe the same air, cherish the future of our children, and stand con-stant vigil to defend the rights that compelled our founders to form a more perfect Union. This is the place our ancestors fought for, and also the place where people still gather the courage to come and be a part of the greatest experiment in freedom in human history. America — a land uniquely blessed of God — a staggering mosaic of natural beauty and re-sources. America — sweet land of Liberty. America—residence for those who dared to dream the dream, pay the price, share the costs … of living in the HOMELAND!
