Step back in time with OMSI to uncover facts in Dinosaurs Unearthed

Imagine if you could look a dinosaur in the eye. Now, imagine if he could look back! It will happen this May at the

Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.

Dinosaurs Unearthed is a multi-sensory, dynamic, and interactive dinosaur exhibition that is both exciting and

entertaining. Explore the world like never before in Dinosaurs Unearthed. This exhibition features amazingly real

animatronic dinosaurs, a hands-on fossil dig site, full-size skeletons, actual dinosaur fossils, and interactive multimedia

stations. Our younger visitors will enjoy the Young Explorers’ Experience, a special area featuring activities designed for

visitors aged 2-7 years.

While fossils give us clues to what dinosaurs may have been like, Dinosaurs Unearthed takes it a giant step further with

lifelike and life-size animatronic dinosaurs. They snarl, open their jaws, blink their eyes, move their arms, and more -

giving you a close encounter with these prehistoric personalities unlike any other. There is even a Stegosaurus that you

can move - if you dare - so you can really tell your friends that

you’ve taken a dinosaur for a test-drive! (Just don’t expect them

to sit or fetch.)

Although it may sound like science fiction, the designers of this

exhibition have gone to great lengths to stick to the facts by

incorporating key details from paleontological findings from

around the globe. The 15 animatronic dinosaurs, 20 unique

fossils, and 3 full-scale skeletons are all true to what the latest

discoveries have shown. In fact, it’s the first exhibit in the world

to feature a juvenile T Rex that has feathers.

predator in the Jurassic Period.

Some Highlights from this exciting exhibit include:

Animatronics - Powered by customized mechanical technology and a

dynamic jointing system, these dinosaurs are able to move smoothly,

quietly, and in realistic orbits that vary in speed.

Fossils – With nearly 200 high-quality specimens, this fossil collection

has earned praise from passionate guests, paleontologists, and industry

partners alike.

Skeletons – Dinosaurs Unearthed includes an exclusive collection of

Jurassic skeletons from the Dashanpu Quarry site and depicts species

from the land, air, and sea.

Feathered Dinosaurs - In the last decade, the discovery of feathered

dinosaurs in Liaoning Province, China has shifted popular thought and

caused paleontologists to re-evaluate the appearance of dinosaurs

around the world.

Interactive Activities - Amongst animatronic dinosaurs, skeletons and

fossils, guests will find interactive podiums, tactile touch kiosks, push button video displays, and consoles where they

can control and explore dinosaur movements.

Dinosaurs Unearthed is an experience that inspires curiosity in guests and

captures the human fascination with dinosaurs at an exciting time in history.

In what is being referred to as the second ‘golden age’ of dinosaur discovery, paleontologists are uncovering and

identifying new species at an unprecedented rate. These new discoveries are continually challenging common

understanding and bringing new information about the prehistoric past to light.

Dinosaurs Unearthed is designed to

appeal to guests of all ages. Parents,

teachers, and dinosaur-enthusiasts

alike will find extensive interpretive

content that presents current science

and provides engaging context for

the dinosaur and fossil displays.

Younger guests will enjoy hands-on

learning with interactive stations that

explore dinosaur sounds, anatomy

and digestion, as well as fossil

detective work.
