Vice Crusader, at Sunnyside Forum, Calls Marriage 'Form of Discipline.' HONOR ROLLS John S Sumner, director of the Beciety for the Suppression of Vice, came to Queens to sally Into what the chairman described | country." Striking out many times at news- papers- for their attacks on censor- ship. Mr. Sumner declared that there wu no more right of free speech or of a free press involved In the ques- tion of censorship than there was in criminal libel and similar laws. The vice crusader outlined hla ideas to the Sunnyside Forum in the Monroe Court Community Room, 43-13 Forty-seventh street. The meet- ing room waa crowded. Mr. Sumner described his society as a proxy for the citizen and an agency for enforcing present slaves. To tike objection that the society's action often advertised books that would go unread, he replied that the blame w a s t o be placed on the shoulders of newspapers. Would Read Mss. First. He suggested that his ideal of censorship would be a duly author- ized committee to which authors might submit their manuscripts for approvaljbpfore they reached the eye of the reader. Mr. Sumner arouaed laughter when, discussing companionate mar- riage, he described marriage a s a "form of discipline." •- Paul P. Crosbie presided.
